their viewers and welcome back to the self metal channel set inside the 2000 Magnum diagram not a Hemi Dodge Ram mm here's that right 20 years old new york state it has the big 5.9 liter in it according to the scan tool i've got a bill here from the other shop the owner shop customer complaint I wrote down Oh II see no speedometer ABS track brake light no power windows air bag light and intermittently power mirrors and heated seats don't work that's a separate problem I guess that intermittently they quit working at any rate the other shop I can't it's a handwritten invoice kind of weird they bang them 350 $1.48 and it left with all the same problems so we are here to see what's going on I took her for a drive now the customer did tell me that all of this stuff happens the noise or not the noise you see noise sees all time the no speedo ABS track brake lay no power windows an airbag light if it happens it happens when you first started if it doesn't then everything works so that's what they told me no I did Drive it initial test drive I had speedo no ABS light windows went up and down as they do currently no airbag light you know nothing everything seemed to work fine I had no AC in the sense that I had good blower operation but no you know no cold air so and then the power mirrors they worked every time I've checked them but they said that's quite intermittent so what we're gonna attack is the spirometer ABS track light power windows air back light because I assume it is all the same problem this one old school truck quit busting out the old school scandal my DRV right now is out on a loan so we're gonna use the old snap on Barris it first times been fired up in a year or so it works and they seem to work well in these old diets we're gonna use that the Alltel doesn't work great on these the Bosch doesn't work very great on these the snap-on is pretty pretty rock solid in my opinion on these trucks so I think I already know what the problem is because I've fiddled and touched anything but I'm gonna show you what's happening I think so currently the key is in the on position and the - looks normal and we come over here in the old scan tool and we can go into I said the air bag light was on so we will go into the air bag don't read codes we have no codes there we can communicate with it and then we will go into come on any light breaks this has four wall you know read codes make sure we can talk to it there's no active codes no code to president I should buy just get the stylus at this point on there we go now we're thinking let's go to stored code see if there's anything there no codes there all right so here's what I'm thinking let's try this they work let's go ahead and fire this pig up and make a power berry ABS brake lights off now everything's good so let's shut her off let's start it back up see if she's gonna cooperate with us no sir try again all the way off get it out back in oh come on come on go burn up here it's gonna happen one of these times trust me got a just pop pop now it's nothing but a stinking liar moved up a little higher thief boy [Music] I am got ABS late we've got an air bag light now I'm willing to bet I've got no power window an air bag light have any BS late I'm thinking we're gonna have no communications what we've got here that's failure to communicate we'll go an air bag probably same thing here try read some data or data if you live everywhere else in the world oh look at that air bag can read interesting does it throw any codes lost of ignition run only mmm-hmm suspectin does watch this man so we don't want to grind on his starter so we're gonna take him drop her in your verse and we're gonna hit the key we're gonna try to cycle the key get or flick the key forward and let back Appa sure ma'am what's up messes up there's a vehicle here few months to leave it okay tomorrow same brake lights on seems like the rear brakes are hanging uh it's surging and like let's have it back tomorrow Oh that's like full throttle baby yeah all right just just haven't leave it I'll do my best to get it in no guarantee I'll do my best all right so now we've just cycle the key is all we've done you know Andrew I did in Traverse just that way it wouldn't hit the starter so let's see we're in the airbag now we'll go into codes where's my stylus it doesn't like my fat fingers no coats now in the airbag chances are I'm willing to bet that the old unlock brakes communicates again active codes it communicates again and I think we already checked to see but the windows work again imagine that all right we're pretty much done here folks what's 350 bucks got them at the tire shop so I just flicked the key again it's fair try to fiddle with this key without shutting it off yeah now you did it [Applause] [Music] we'll try another trick here I'll meet ma taught me all right it's broke again so now the window should not work them it's not work let's give her one of these here they don't flicker ooh here I think we just got that ignition switch don't be my guess yeah look at that thanks fixed so you guys see where I'm going with this or at least my thoughts just based on customer symptom and description it's a good thing they gave us that one clue that this happens during startup if it's gonna happen so that tells me right away you know probably something funky going on in the ignition switch I'd be willing to bet if we look at a wiring diagram the power wire that feeds the windows is probably the same side of the ignition switch that feeds the you know like brake module and probably some kind of ignition feed to the airbag module because the airbag module we could still communicate with but you know through that code the ignition switch code or whatever whatever code that was back there so that's what I'm gonna take and focus my efforts hey girl what's up this house Q tonight a scooter okay so that's where I'm gonna focus my efforts is find the diagram let's find the ignition switch make sure everything's getting its appropriate power feeds and then it must feed something that feeds this phenomena or two I'm guessing I'm not gonna get too deep into it simply because as I've shown in multiple other videos when everything quits working at once just find something easy to diagnose because chances are whatever the one problem is it's gonna fix all the problems so don't get sidetracked I mean I can see here they put speed sensors in it looks like baby bull speed sensors rewired the blower motor they says needs AC freon I do not do need temped or actuator turn counterclockwise to cold and then some other stuff I can't get through right side of trans $150 I don't know so it looks like they did did some stuff left front sensor I don't know either way these are gearing are there I really don't care so that's what we're gonna do this good diagram [Music] well it sucks we can hear they are doing an intake manifold and take down a 46 mention it so I got our diagram pulled up here and the 'auvairs and we can see that I'm not gonna I didn't want to do that so one thing you didn't want to do that's kind of hard to navigate so we have power comes from our battery in through this fuse here I think it's fused to 30 amp comes down on around town goes to the ignition switch comes out on a run circuit and then it comes down that feud's fuse to three circuit breaker number one few seven fuse 18 wait and they run let's see what they run they run blower motor relay AC temp door one door so I'll run some of the blood doors runs the ABS controller left power window right power window air bag control module starting to see the connection here folks and then it goes to diagram 3 of 3 number D let's see if we can find that diagram three up three there's three of three there see where's triangle D there's triangle D which also runs park neutral position switch back up lights daytime running light module very interesting so I'm curious as to when this is broke if we do not have reverse lights that would be just another piece of the puzzle what I'm thinking do we have any more ignition switches here in the diagram I would think there would be more than one run wire coming out of that ignition switch IMO we do we've got a black and white so we have that one that one yes we have two two sides of it this one is also accessory run the accessory run what's that feed wiper motor radio cigar-lighter combination flasher so that's why some of that suffering just kind of look in here just bear with me folks and the heated seats also runoff from the one that we suspect is bad okay very good so a couple things we could do we could go right after the ignition switch we could go right at this wire hook on to it a test light see it's at some point it doesn't light this is easy to get to that's what we're gonna do otherwise what we could do is you know just to verify we could go in the fuse box forever this is such a junction block there we could check fuse 2 3 718 see if they're dead and see if by flicking the lock cylinder if they miraculously come back to life which we should find us a case so any a little reasonable deduction I think this is where we're at let's see if we get to the switch because chances are we're gonna have to fix it anyways and the other potential problem could be is loss of power feed going into the switch which I highly doubt I suspect our switches bad hello everyone here on the parts pile dealer chef left us the ECM because you always put a computer in a car if it doesn't work in the blend or actuator so let's do this let's set that to the side we're gonna set this to the side we'll keep our diagram up there we'll see I don't see where the ignition switch lives I imagine right here in the column and we'll see if we get some screws out of it we'll get in there and see what's happening so popped our column covers off and we have the black and white wire which is one side of the accessory and we have our black and orange which is the other side of the Lied should say they're both ones accessory and run the other one is the one circuit the one we're concerned with it's the black with orange I've got a duo LM at Balbir so it should light up dim and accessory and then it should also late up Jim and bright in the eye which it does both elements and we just got to get it to act up so the bright side of this I've got hooked to the one that we suspect is gonna be bad now it's not gonna work power windows work I might have to try this a few times okay look at that we got a check engine light on I wonder what that is let me just check into that there real quick folks that's kind of what I think they want you to anything about that just see what that is here automatic with AC if I read the codes code only give that purge solenoid okay that's great I love it when they break when they're here you got hurt so I'd open sure peel 443 it says that's a special about that will shut it back off working of course now I wonder you know because we turned it back accessory and we been fiddling with a switch if it's gonna work now [Music] it's quit on me it's fiddling with a mission switch up here cuz if we just barely touch it hold it right there power windows quit ABS lights on be nice to get it you can see it flickering hopefully it's messing with this mission switch up here turning it backwards do much you can video it's never gonna break but you know dang tootin that's what's wrong with this thing the Queen on this key switch little come on baby break permanently [Music] come on just break break without my hand on it just barely touching the same way we know it you address a window but 500 tries later it's broke like anyhow we can see so we'll go on the black with white that's right black with orange nothing one on sour ground and then now we have should have no power windows right yeah we have wipers let's ask Jeep we got reverse lights hey Jason we'd see if we got reverse lights you gonna check for us it shouldn't have oh you do it you do have reverse lights okay go backwards that night grant maybe I'm wrong but oh no if it's because we regained power there again okay yeah so just putting in Reverse that switch regained power so that's why we had reverse lights all right perfect we did see it's dead one half the accessories feet it's actually run feed works the other half does not so that's bad mr. twitch he's beat me so now we're gonna have a look at the purge because we have that 4:43 coat so first solenoid ran out in the open and before we unplug it or anything we should have power in and power out want to be a little dimmer no it's nice and bright that one's dinner it's interesting that we have an equipment circuit code yes we're going in as we know yeah I see them coming out so it's interesting let's see if the purge works should this user scandal here yeah you bet purge solenoid circuit openers short let's see I don't get back let me get back here snap-on there is no back button where's the best bot oh that's why I quit using this frickin thing because stuff like this would happen so the back button is gone there's no back now we have to dump the vehicle okay frustrating well I don't like it again and just to show you that there is a back button here because there's gonna be like a thousand comments like bro to go back you do such-and-such we'll go right back in there I'll show you this should have been a back binder codes towards only about a bing bada boom so there we are there's the back button on top maybe it was there before but I didn't see it by what I'm editing it I will what a dingdong system test you bet monitor test purge vapor test we have a function test p.m. we have purge solenoid see what survey says here I hear something clicking over there hope that be this is the personal ID right sure looks like one to me let's get a lower amp test light we're still that's gonna leave it plugged in shell make sure we're across it back broke here turn this on again good good good quick look good wasn't clicking before eyes turning on that's kind of weird that's clicking out you guys yeah yeah I'm proud turn that radio off before we get in trouble yet so she's over here clicking away it's kind of weird [Music] Nelson Tesla of course I am to only handle so little current we just have a crappy connection huh but let's look at our connector now everything seems to work their master is great don't know what tell you Britta solenoids are pretty high fail right them what's resistance on these things 30 maybe somewhere in that neighborhood will be my guess just see this one says 35.4 that seems legit maybe it's an intermittent it's kind of weird a customer didn't stay for the engine light was on I did see when I initially bought the vehicle and when I was sitting there doing key cycles at that Co did flash across the dash I guess the good thing to do would be to check to see where its power source comes from is it related to the fuse business I'll check into that I doubt it is it would be pretty bizarre that if this was the only thing that got its power feed that's when we were fiddling that that seems to work just beautifully I'll go look on some diagrams just to be sure actually it's a good thing we looked because that does feed off the ignition switch so one of the other run circuits the dark blue circuit when we didn't check because there's actually three run circuits the black with orange which is our ours the one that we're looking at is dying the black with white then there's actually a dark blue I neglected to see which works in the start and run position that goes to diagram three of three so we'll go down to three of three that goes to C which powers fuse number eleven inside the vehicle and that feeds the day nightmare overhead console central timer module and then also beats scrubs we'll scroll down I'm Diesel's it feeds the AC clutch relay and fuel heater or I'm sorry it feeds a/c clutch relay on a gas job in the only other thing it feeds is that purge solenoid so I'm not going to get too excited with that knowing that we haven't failed the ignition switch so that's probably why we had that little issue there so so that makes sense I'm glad I look I'm really surprised to see that that is the only ECM controlled unit that runs off that few so kind of bizarre but that's how it is so that explains why it works why the resistance check on it is good and everything else kind of checks out there so that's probably goofing up along with the ignition switch being that it is part of the ignition switch feeds so all the pieces of the puzzle are coming together I miss it though today I'm the puzzler so I go up to our list no speedometer check ABS check power windows check airbag like check one thing we got to look at allergies kill me today folks just definitely I'm a little sniffly is the no a/c the ignition switch does have as we discovered power feed to that clutch so that's something to know and also I didn't have something with the actuators if I remember right the intermittent power mirrors in heated seats I'm not super concerned about at this point mirrors haven't quit work and I check them every time we'll fix all the big items and if we narrow it down to just this intermittent power Miral unless they get the power feed from now they wouldn't get the part because your power mirrors work all the time so that wouldn't have anything to do with the ignition switch because power mirrors always work in a car he did seeds in Oh close to or tickle together like the heated seats had part of that ignition feet but the intermittent power mirrors that's right something on its own let's look at the AC I hate tracking down intermittent problems especially if it's like a once a month thing you know that's almost impossible yeah let you fix it till it's broke so let's do the know eat see let's see what's going on with that and then then we can give an estimate make the call I think perhaps the best thing to do is to find a good ground you always want to go to ground for what Adam nor strike is always good let's make sure let's start it up we're gonna make sure that all our admission switch is working you know we want to make sure if we're diagnosing that we're not chasing you know same problem we have men so we got a three power or three feeds out of it so here's our power feed in there's power feed out power feed out and our dark blue remember power feed out I don't know that way it is how it's got power yellows bite starter for that power power power oh yeah the power their power and everything's let's turn on the OL Dec here I don't know if has a charge in it or not well find out however the other shot did say it needs freon which they don't do ain't compressor just kick that's good let's get down again stuck and cycling out there short cycling it's probably this water shuts off almost immediately it's on all right so it is recycling throw some gauges on it see what looks like it's probably low awesome know what this thing is but somebody's gotta like so this is the low side here high side rather and somebody's and Medellin and things I'll not be meddling in they put some kind of pipe plug in it or something well what kind of low side see what's happening well she has a 20 year old beauty so it's bound to have it trips are on the block anyways that age this I know I did see here Oh separator let's fire it up and see what happens we got about 74 psi which should be about over 74 degrees inside today I think she's low on charge there she goes you oh yeah we launched our j-- Oh show let's see if we're gonna do something to side side here we've got a recovered right now and then pull the refrigerant out of it when I see if we can fix this mess here I see they've got a pretty squish down hopefully we can replace the traitor I did get there they stuck a little pipe plug in it it looks like that's a sealer of some sort on it and it quits dealers amount that's way easier than you know classic app no build one out lunch is over I got a new one here keep these a little fellow Drayton stock little rubber grease on it see already has sealer on it and a threaded portion say they got the top of this thing pretty well chowder DUP I'm gonna see if we're very gingerly get her in there you don't have to crush these in there like see they got they have an o-ring seal plus F seal around the threads so you know don't be an animal when you put it don't be an animal that's what I'm saying and of course now we will use very good ice cap we took out looks like eight ounces what we're eating lunch and then how much oil only about a half ounce of oil upsets no that's fix we're gonna take pull it under vacuum in there so I mean I have your fridge around but I don't really know the history on it you know if somebody come from cans and in the lower side over there and that stuff looks pretty nice on the front we'll have to go over and check for leaks pretty small system lines right up on top everything super easy to access except for the math recorder inside you know so if that you know potentially that's a leak that's a little more difficult to get to and then I think that's it on our list is that yeah II see and I think layers my thought that eat some lunch watching some of the YouTube and I was thinking the Internet power windows power mirrors and heated seats I think what I would do is assuming that you know we don't catch it in the act I would fix this ignition switch give it back to the customer and say you know let me know if hey that stuff goes walking again in case it's all related we're not gonna spend a whole lot of time there so if that done we'll charge it up we'll see if the most cold they charge up put two pylons in it pressors running river speeds here [Music] right there high sides running that low these only have a mechanical fan no electret condenser fan so usually that makes your high side pressure it's that higher I'd expect to see a hundred fifty-pound today anyways that's good they can utilize our hoses here [Music] once I can see what's happening I'm thinking we have a blend or issue inside let's go to chop State perhaps that's what the blend or is that blood or actuator sometimes a seat in there that looks like we're about 55 degrees 54 degrees work shuts off here about 54 degrees out of the dash but I cranked it up here on Con [Music] or still 54° so good in the summertime bad in the wearing time I don't see anything happening here it's our mode seems to work or - that seems weird that may even be cable-operated I don't know but definitely not switching to heat here so perhaps perhaps the fella took this thing off already so I wonder where this goes we're going to find out where the tongue or actuator is in this thing because obviously that's a problem and I think we should be cooler because I see outside the herd after the orifice tube it is frost up so maybe it's not shut all the way so I look down at - see everything runs on vacuum I do see a temp door actuator here which somebody has already taken the liberty of doing what I called a half-ass job they've got one screw in it they missed the peg on the side however it is in an attach so it's a pretty shoddy work I changed temp hot to cold I don't see it moving down here I went ahead and just unplugged it plugged in the old one I don't see that one moving so we're gonna have to do a little checking obviously this one is put in wrong you don't miss some screws and stuff like that but let's see if we can figure out what's going on with this I'm just saying first we'll check powers and grounds so she blew should be power black with green should be ground just make the darn sure and survey says nothing keys on make sure you're good dear no power or no ground one or the other the next best thing to do would be go to check make sure that ground is good but everything's plastic oh no we got metal - right here so let's see if we have power but no ground without working on a Chrysler and they do like that bad ground nothing there let's go check our fuse do do what news are you on folks so here we are ground power same power that feeds the temps like their switch Nance junction box looks that - fuse to 10a used to 10a it's got then take done yet no cuz he's at lunch tip some of these here left into - whoa look at that this is how I drove it in folks trust me fuse number two oh yeah this is fuse number two what the Frick that's in a number two hole what do they have in there a 20 hmm let's just got awkward let me get my other test like here I'm trying to give it give it a handy hold on there we go let's flip this up on door check post cuz they make great grounds let's see what uh well it's hot well why did they did they just have that shoved I can't see back in here let's pull that I hope this pin up here no good feels kinda like there's nothing in there that feels a little bigger maybe I don't know let's go get a appropriate views 10 amp I swear folks I spent half my time on fixing people's fixes when the car comes and broke I feel light in there hard to say we're gonna turn it up in there instead of the 20 Baba Wow let's see if it see if there is a terminal issue up there on the top it kind of old-school trick old-school time no it's scratching the fuse pretty good that's it scratches on both sides and say if there is a little bit of terminal issue you can just take kind of tweak one one way tweak one the other way just gingerly don't don't go cray-cray and stuff it back in the hole let's go see if we have power and ground now ground to down the item I'm gonna let it shine what's it doing we plug it in now or so is your old baby because you guys were sitting out my light told the camera of course they got this thing off frickin cut off switch it on in mind it's rotating right now must be self calibrating of some servant is it I don't know they got it so slick and pinched in there let me just run it to reach up here it's spinning now baby proud loosen up that screw released straighten this thing up all right we well the car's not warmed up all the way but where we had here 122 and climbing matter we had before 125 degrees in here right now we'll go back to ATC press around for a while switching back to cold make sure it changes what's up mrs. o good Josh go well what time is it yeah you should be to be Barry I think I told me very new first one hour lunch break that we give them we're great bosses namely yeah did you get like eight hour break all day just kidding JK you have an hour but take an hour go take one honey further than massage parlor do they call massage pirate I think that's like a dirty thing isn't it I had like an appropriate thing I think it is but you're done with us you said they were uh well we diagnose Asuna but we're still fixing all the rig ups from the other shop so you can see we're dropping now folks because I'm Eric Ross that condenser married the old fan she's picking on now as we're dropping 53 what's after you folks across the fine 284 Kelvin eleven point one degrees Celsius ten point eight so far ten point seven so this drop we're down to fifty we're gonna be in the forty soon and then it feels nice and cold coming out so I'm pretty happy with that it does switch from hot to cold why did they have a 20 ampere in there then I imagined from the tape and stuff they probably had this shoved in the other end of the fuse box perhaps there is some terminal fretting in there from the dues but like I say when I pulled it out you know I could see where the terminals scuffed on it so I don't really know I don't know why it some shop to do what they do I don't ask we just keep on movin 135,000 on this big pretty low mileage and this thing is mint underneath I don't know where the truck came from but it looks like it came from the showroom so we're gonna call that good sitting here in the shop hardly any air flow or 48 degrees feels nice and cold it's about 80 in the shop right now so I'm happy with that you're happy I think that is everything on the list I think that is it for us get chilly in here ah ac no a/c Jack what we'll have to do now in regards to air conditioner is so we pulled out eight ounces or 8 ounces low you know we don't know is this original charge 20 years old no history what I would do is I would just take my gas sniff I'm gonna go along the lines gonna go on the compressor across the condenser and then you know call it you know we had that Schrader valve that was all rigged up was that leak and you know I don't know but if we don't see any leaks we did I did put in a little bit of oil to die in the system so we would let it go with that and I think that's it so at this point we can call the customer and say you need an ignition switch because everything else we kind of fixed along the way which is something that you have to do and this is also why Diagnostics diagnosis is diagnosis or whatever they're called seeing what's wrong with your car is not free anybody that thinks it should be free is done lost their mind I don't do anything for free including diagnose cars and for some reason that is a misconception that people think they can bring their car in and get a free estimate well write your estimate for free vote majority to diagnosis that's just that's just the way it is there's no way that you can put an hour or more is worth of work telling a customer what's wrong with their car for absolutely free I despite the fact that like a dance Auto Napa an autozone and all those guys are going to read the code you know diagnose the car for free that's a bunch of BS you know generally it's just some window liquor out there reading code saying well you need a speed sensor then you end up a craft like this at 350 dollar bill a bunch of parts changed based on codes and your car's not fixed and then you're broke and you go to another shops I already spent all my money we already replaced the computer heard the story million times or you end up with unnecessary stuff like Leslie you know this is probably good this actuator I'm sure is probably good but it was unnecessarily replaced because of some you know some juries some jury got in there and brought his rig with him any jury rigged it so chances are the bill to actually fix it is going to be less than what they initially had into it including the diagnosis so you'd be further ahead getting your car diagnosed and you would be loading the parts can and they're just throwing stuff at it till it sticks I've seen it over and over every single day we deal with this the video I said we just did a video here no neither here or there but we get them all the time from from other shops local shops they bring them in they've already just unloaded parts on it you know ours might be a 10 cent fix cuz we fix the broken wire so I just keep that might stuff isn't always complicated as it seems especially when you have multiple symptoms with actually one cause in this case ignition switch we're low on refrigerant we had some rig up here in the fuse box for the door actuator you know so a bunch of simple little things that need to be take care of so I'm gonna keep on moving if we get the job which I don't know if we will new customer don't know if we get the ignition switch job I'll show you putting that in and then see if they wanna do anything else I did notice mirrors still work seats all that but the power the seat heaters do not light up the buttons do not light up I'll to double check if I remember correctly if the grid is broken in the seat on these then those buttons don't light up I'll see if they want me to put any time into that let them know where else you know where we're at currently if they want us to diagnose those I'll bring it along and show you what's wrong with the seat heaters maybe it's just maybe it's fuse number one it's missing in there so we're
