Good afternoon! Today I want to perform for you an arrangement I've made over a wonderful song which is called Hallelujah composed by the composer songwriter, poet... Leonard Cohen an extraordinary Canadian musician and it will sound very familiar to you because it appears in multiple films there are plenty of versions It was very popular because of one of its versions by Jeff Buckley a young guitarist and singer and the lyrics, as many poems by Leonard Cohen go deep into religiosity and spirituality to go one step ahead to connect us with other emotions and other life meanings In this song we can find at the title and at the chorus the word Hallelujah which means in Hebrew "Glory to God" and this song talks about 2 Bible passages one it's about David & Betsabé David was the one who beat the Giant Goliat after he became the King of Israel and Betsabé was married to another man but when she was having a bath under the moonlight David sees her and falls in love with her Then he decided to send his husband to the war to kill him and to be able to be with Betsabé cause she was married Another Bible passage that the song talks about is Samson & Dalilah when it says "She broke your throne and she cut your hair" Samson's hair gave him his strength He had an extraordinary strength but he was in love with her and he tells her his secret and she betrayed him getting his hair cut and provoking him to lose all his strength and power So this song starts talking about the King David when he played a secret chord which dedicated to God, it was celestial and it caused in the audience an unique spiritual mood It follows describing how he plays the chords and that's what the song does when it goes describing singing it it does "It goes like this" that would be the Iº grade, TONIC "The fourth" "The fifth" which is the Vº grade, DOMINANT "The minor fall" The minor falls and the major lift and then the King composed Hallelujah which is Glory to God, the spiritual special mood and it goes describing these scenes where God's word is betrayed or the trust between Dalilah and Samson when it's betrayed erasing his power and I think's it's a symbol about if Hallelujah isn't more than a word and if we should go beyond I mean, believing in the meaning of God's words or the words in every religion followed by anyone more than in the word like it is literally Hallelujah is a desperate scream to heaven trying to give a meaning to what we are to what we do to good and evil to be happy with yourself to the meaning of our existence and to what we're doing here at the end, no one knows lol I also wanted to tell you an anecdote which was told by Leonard Cohen when he received the Principe de Asturias award in 2011 and he told in his speech that he was so grateful to Spain because when he was young he was playing with his friends in the street and he heard a guitarist playing a chord progression that captivated him then Leonard approched him and said to him: "Please, I want to learn" "could you please teach me some chords?" and the guitarists gave him lessons for 2 days In these 2 days the guitarist taught him that special chord progression which also had a tremolo so he studied it very well and at the 3rd day, the guitarist didn't appear so Leonard called his hotel room to the phone number given by the guitarist and they told him that the guitarist took his life to Leonard it was very hard because his new guitar teacher, the one who connected so well with him the one who taught him many things in a little time wasn't there anymore and he knew nothing about him he only knew that he was Spanish and that beautiful chord progression that the guitarist taught him he told he bought a Conde guitar and he structured all the base of his music and songs in that wonderful chord progression that he learned from the Spanish guitarist and that was the reason to be so grateful to Spain to its people and its music I consider it a beautiful anecdote I have goosebumps each time I listen to it I love Leonard Cohen as a musician, as a composer but also as a poet I have books by him and it's incredible cause he uses surrealist elements too to help you to connect with the meaning with the essence of things more than with superficial ones so I'm fascinated with his art by his lyrics, poems and music Hope you love it if it's like this, you can subscribe, like comment and share the YouTube link with your friends Thank you so much for watching
