encourage you but i believe as the culvert gets in the rearview mirror and we're coming out of this with all of the concerns about life and health and death that i believe that our culture is being moment with you before you go into the waters of baptism let me pray holy spirit do a deep work thank you for blessing the waters with your presence let this be like heaven on earth and i pray for these people who are being baptized tonight that there would be a true deliverance and entrance into the kingdom of your glorious light that your power would come upon them in a way that would change them forever and that you'd fill them with your spirit in jesus name amen well this is a massive day for you in just a few moments you're going to go into the waters of baptism and the waters of baptism have been blessed since genesis chapter 1. the bible says the spirit of god hovered over the face of the deep in other words the holy spirit was present upon the waters and whatever the holy spirit is present upon he blesses and so since that moment in every nation every culture every time period water is a blessed substance the scripture says jesus speaking to the woman at the well he said one day from your innermost being would flow a river of living water water speaks of the washing of the word and it also speaks of baptism that pool is what it is not is a mere symbol let me just i want to say that it's very important this is not you checking off the box of what american christians do so that your family feels better so you've completed the christian experience so you can tell people you went into the waters when you go into the waters the holy spirit himself will be present nowhere in the scriptures is baptism mentioned and the holy spirit not present jesus is baptized in the jordan the holy spirit comes upon him as a dove the bible says that the israelites went through the red sea they were baptized paul said into the sea and into the cloud the cloud the person of the holy spirit filled them and passed through the entire camp so i want you to know that today what you're about to do is a full-blown encounter with god and i want you to go into those waters in faith believing that when i anoint you with oil as you come up out of the waters after i baptize you in the name of the father the son the holy spirit i'm going to take a q-tip and anoint with oil not because i'm afraid because it's less messy and i don't want to ruin my bible and i have to preach tonight i may have to grab a microphone and if my hands are oily that would be tough when the oil before i believe by faith when i anoint you with oil i believe the holy spirit will come upon you i believe that now it's important you understand what the scriptures say listen very carefully first peter 3 21 and this water symbolizes baptism that now saves you also not the removal of dirt from the body but the pledge of a clear conscience towards god listen it saves you by the resurrection of jesus christ so the waters do not save jesus saves the living christ saves but this is important your conscience is going to be cleansed when you come out of the waters of baptism colossians 2 21 says having been buried with him in baptism in which you were also raised with him through your faith in the working of god who raised him from the dead so this is a burial listen carefully this is a true burial this is a watery grave you're going to go in and that old man is staying in the water come on he's staying in the water and you're coming out you're going to come out completely separated and cut off from sin the world and the scriptures say this age this perverse generation and you're going to be raised in jesus the scripture teaches that you'll be circumcised in the heart in the waters of baptism this is god's new testament scalpel the heart will be circumcised acts 22 16 get up be baptized wash away your sins and call on his name isn't this wonderful now in every baptism so you can understand what's about to take place in every baptism there is a baptizer in this case this will be our team our team and i we will be baptizing you there is a substance into which you're baptized that is the water there is the baptizee that's you and then there is the result of every baptism tonight the result of the baptism according to the scriptures is this you will be baptized into jesus himself and his church this is great news this is great news so again we'll be baptizing you you are the baptizee the substance of the holy waters of baptism the result will be you are one with jesus and one with his people the body of christ before you go in it's important that you understand what the lord wants what he's yearning for again this is not a tradition this is an experience with the lord he wants everything i i wouldn't be doing i would not be faithful in my call to the lord if i didn't tell you that the lord wants everything from you your whole life everything all your dreams your plans your sin what you think are your strengths he wants it all jesus demands all because he gave all to understand so i can't just do this tonight unless you count the cost and jesus said jesus said this he said imagine a man who builds a tower and doesn't count the cost and he begins building and cannot finish it it brings shame the scripture says so you need to count the cost before you go into the waters tonight i believe there are angels in the room tonight i believe heaven is watching i i honestly when i begin doing this feel like i'm doing the work of the lord i don't know how to explain it earlier i told jesse i said pray for me i'm feeling a bit of resistance which broke 30 45 minutes ago and i knew it had to do with these baptisms listen listen the enemy is having his face kicked in tonight through what's about to happen so i'm i'm well aware i i i'm learning i understand the weight of this it is holy and wonderful and the scripture says you are conveyed from out of darkness into the kingdom of his glorious life jesus wants all so what i need all of you to do is look at me and tell me whether or not you are willing to give all to jesus tonight if it means your very life your own blood are you willing to give everything to jesus i needed i had not yes yes okay i want us to declare one of the creeds of the church in this creed much of your faith is stated and it's important you do declare what you believe tonight for centuries the church has declared a few different creeds and the bible says that you need to believe in your heart and confess with your mouth and this is our faith our family as a church this is our faith so i want all of us to stand please in honor of this wonderful moment and we're all going to repeat this creed in this case this will be the nicene creed which was written a long time ago but i want us to declare it in faith it's a bit long but there's power in it are you ready are you ready okay we're going to declare it with faith and boldness we believe in one god father the almighty maker of heaven and earth of all that is seen and unseen and we believe in one lord jesus christ the only son of god eternally begotten of the father god from god light from light true god from true god begotten not made of one being with the father through him all things were made for us in our salvation he came down from heaven by the power of the holy spirit he became incarnate of the virgin mary and was made man for our sake he was crucified under pontius pilate he suffered death and was buried oh i love this on the third day he rose again in accordance with the scriptures he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the father he will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom will have no end and we believe in the holy spirit oh wow the lord the giver of life who proceeds from the father and the son with the father and the son he is worshiped and glorified he has spoken through the prophets we believe in one holy church we acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins and we look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come amen amen give man to gain the whole world and lose his own soul and then jesus says what can a man give in exchange for so are you going to give the lord a car in exchange for your soul are you going to give him your career in exchange for your soul will you start a ministry in exchange for your soul or be successful or well known what in that list is as valuable as a soul nothing there is one remedy for our soul and his name is jesus his name is jesus the proof that you belong to jesus listen carefully is whether or not his life is being lived through you that is the true proof when we say you must be born again from john chapter 3 what are we saying you must experience a brand new birth you've heard this many times not a better birth not an improved or new start not a new year's resolution a brand new birth a cleanse soul and a brand new spirit this is the gospel it is absolutely clear and measurable to know whether or not you're born again if anything is measurable it's whether or not the god of the universe lives inside of you the way to know you're not born again is whether or not sin is mastering you well we don't hear this anymore but this is the gospel if sin is mastering you you are slave to sin the bible says but the scripture says that whom the sun sets free is free indeed listen very carefully to me in a room this size there is no doubt in my mind that many of you in this room are bound to sin and you don't have to be you do not want to face the lord being a slave to sin jesus is returning as your bridegroom or your judge in fact the scripture says that we were all enemies unto god you don't want to face the lord as his enemy it's much more beautiful to face him as the bride you can be free tonight with every head bowed and i closed every head about a night close if i'm talking to you i want you to get real with god tonight you saw these people come out of the waters completely set free and i want the same for you the waters do not save jesus himself saves and he of god and newness of life number four you need to give your heart listen carefully to a people and actually do life with a people in the presence of god the fancy word for that is church okay but you need to find a church we'd love to have you here if god doesn't lead you here we just want you to find the best church for you we pray that we can walk with you it'd be an honor but you need to find a church that loves the word of god and loves the presence of god the entire word of god as bill says even the maps find a pastor who believes the maps all right the whole thing is amazing all right now listen it's important you find a church that loves the presence of god because the presence of god is god it's the presence of the holy spirit all right and lastly jesus promised to empower you with his spirit the same power that rests upon him that he walked in to see every miracle in his life and jesus promised that to you he said you shall receive power after that the holy spirit has come upon you i'm going to pray and i'm going to believe god that his power will come upon you it may happen tonight if you're like me i don't know when when i was a little boy his power came upon me and on his own and you're going to stay in california and i am a very planned and organized person and to my planned and organized mind that didn't sound like a splendid idea when ryan left our youngest daughter was three months old and so i worked a full-time job and i told the lord if this is the sacrifice you need me to lay at your feet i'm gonna do it because you're asking me to and you know as a church we know ties it's not an option we believe the entire bible from the beginning to end that means salvation that means baptism that means that jesus died on the cross for us that means the tithes 10 goes to the lord but that also means that we bring him our offerings sometimes that means it's got to look costly sometimes it means it doesn't look what everyone thinks it should sometimes it doesn't look like what we think it should but the bible says that we're supposed to bring our offerings to the lord sorry in a second corinthians 9 verse 10 it says for god is the one who provides the seed for the farmer and then bread to eat in the same way he will provide and increase your resources and then produce a great harvest of generosity in you and then it says yes you will be enriched in every way that so you can always be generous and then we will take your gifts to those who need them and they will thank god they're not going to look at carla and say thank you carla they're going to look at the lord he's the one who provides it all for us anyways and so when we give tonight i just really want to encourage you we're giving to the lord we're giving to the one that we worship that we praise that we celebrate in baptisms that we celebrate in salvation we're giving it to him we're not giving it to michael we're not giving it to jess we're giving it to jesus and he
