Gorgeous Tiny House Gives Family of 5 Peace & Wild Spaces

hey i'm amanda hale and this is my tiny house her name is lilliputian and that comes from the gulliver's travels of the little island with all the little tiny people and so this is our tiny place um we've been here under a year we moved here last summer and we come here part-time not full-time and we just love it here we lease the lot on the home and i'm going to show you all about the home [Music] we're in the kitchen and this is this is one of my favorite parts and i love the kitchen because we we had to have copper and wood tones and space for stuff i enjoy cooking i enjoy just making things wonderful we have a two burner stove top and we have a really cool retro fridge we have an air fryer and of course we have a grill out on the deck it's enough space to do what i need to do for myself my husband and three kids so we take up a lot of space but we enjoy it one of the favorite things about the kitchen is actually something i had to do with i like to craft little trinkety things and so the builders saved me a corner of the countertop so that i could put those things in under epoxy in the corner of our actual countertop so this is one of my personal touches that i like to do and then of course we have a sign that my husband and middle daughter made together um of the name of the house we chose the open shelving um because it it leaves a lot of space it keeps a more open feel in the kitchen and i actually enjoy seeing some of the things up on the shelves it's almost like part of the decor of the kitchen as well and all of our cabinets and drawers below are actually really spacious we love how much space they gave us in these drawers and so we didn't need a lot of cabinets that are closed off the backsplash here that you see is actually just a sheet of copper um it's kind of cool because as it ages it looks more interesting and that's what we were going for um i'm a fan of copper finishings as you can probably tell and it's literally just a sheet of copper nailed up against the wall we have so much space for the things that we need and there's actually secret storage as well that counts as our pantry in the stairs we have drawers we have pantry space and two of our stairs and it works really well it's convenient to the kitchen and we can store dry goods and non-perishables that way we knew we wanted a cool fridge in this house and we love the look of the retro fridges this is a newer brand so it's not actually an old fridge so it's actually going to function for us and it just occurred to me to stick bottle caps on here with little magnets so as we enjoy various types of beverages adult and kid-friendly beverages we just fill up the fridge with our our our fun times this fridge and freezer size are actually fantastic for us because we're not here full time we don't have to keep enough stuff for five people constantly but it absolutely keeps us for several days at a time fully stocked up there's room for our frosty mugs in the freezer so that's important in addition to these drawers and the stairs we have more storage built into the stairs we have storage spaces underneath where we keep a lot of our first aid kit walkie-talkies shoe bin household maintenance items and then our favorite little spot is for the dog we have a rescue dog his name is snicket and he's insane and this is his space and he gets his toys and his blanket and his bed so he has his own loft just like the rest of us [Music] my husband and i have always loved the aesthetic of a tiny house i get that it's kind of a trend it's fun to watch all the different variations and character that a lot of tiny houses have we also love to camp with the family we've got three kids and we would try to go camping and tent camping and we would get you know messed up by the weather there would be rain or there would be too much heat or it would get too cold overnight and we wanted a way to get away escape have something close by without having to worry about the weather and once we got started in the tiny house direction we kind of just ran with it and have put so many perks and upgrades into this place that it really feels like a home away from a home to go with this table we needed just a couple of stools that would kind of tuck away and hide away and i just found these found these online and um they will fold up really easily and they work as a tv tray for sitting on the couch they work as a seat here and they actually function as a perfect height outside on the deck where we can use the railing as almost like a bar top and enjoy inside and outside they're light they're easy to move around it was kind of a no-brainer to have something like that in here for seating on this side we have a custom couch beneath it are um two huge bins for storage and i'm not gonna open it because it's full of all the kids junk that they just throw in there so that it's not lying around everywhere and some blankets but if we do pull it out we can unfold a layer and turn this couch into a bed and frequently one of the kids will opt to sleep either on the couch like this because it's actually big enough for them as is or pulled out um it could fit to the kids but they'd fight each other over that so we don't do that and it's a very comfortable couch it was put together per the dimensions specifically of the house and for our needs so we have a tiny little nook where we store a bunch of our little chairs and stools that we can take inside and outside as as much as we want um of course in this area you see that the ceiling is much higher and it makes the entire house feel so much more spacious um we've got what looks like a tiny little fan and it actually puts off a lot of air like in whichever direction we need it to go to cool or heat the house very very quickly it's very strong we can adjust so many of the lighting factors in here for brighter or dimmer and it's really easy and as we walk a little further this way we've got one of my favorite elements in the whole house and this is our lily pad steps um i call them lily pad because the name of the house is lilliputian and so it's a lily themed and this was kind of an industrial aesthetic and space-saving component and the kids absolutely love using this to get in and out of the kid loft one of the fun things about this aside from how cute it is and the fact that i put sparkle lights on it is that the kids invented a way to eat their meals here basically i've got three kids and they stagger themselves where they use a table and a seat and a table and a seat and a table and a seat and you've got all three kids kind of wound up in a spiral formation attempting not to kick each other's food and eating so it's pretty adorable and they enjoy it very much my husband put together some boards and rope and made a bookshelf and i keep my yoga mat and a treasure chest full of games and activities stored away we've got really you can actually tell how deep the closet spaces here we have some space that is actually hangable closet space and some that is shelving and we can keep a lot of our clothes in and out of season right here and you can actually hear the rain on the tin roof it's a copper colored tin roof that we love because i love copper and i actually really enjoy the sound of the rain on it our tiny bathroom is fantastic we have a lot of space there's again like i said there's five of us and we need enough space in the bathroom the shower which i'll show you in just a minute was an upgrade that i have not regretted at all we changed a lot of the materials in here to be stone and slate as opposed to just the natural wood and copper we've got our tankless hot water heater in here and we have a washer dryer combination machine as well um which i had never even used one of those before it's really clever and really fun um of course we have the toilet and then we have shelving tucked in a little corner that doesn't look like a lot of shelving but actually is is um very deep as deep as the shower is wide so that we have room plenty room for all of our linens uh we got to choose um so many of the fantastic finishes in here including the sink which is a really pretty cobalt blue bowl and a fun mirror that adds just a lot of flair in here in the shower first thing you notice are probably the suction cups where we hang our wet swimsuits from the jacuzzi outside and we went dark everybody wanted the bathroom to be light because it's small and i said i don't like white showers i want dark and this is absolutely not small at all there's so much space in here and then we found a copper accent tile to really set the whole thing off the shower head and the water pressure here is fantastic these showers are not skimping by any means we really enjoy this so a little background about myself and my family is that david's a physician with harbin clinic and the kids are all at a fantastic school called barry college elementary and middle school they're getting a beautiful education and a beautiful campus and they're learning to care about people we love barry um i pick up a day or two working i like to do lots of little hobbies i like to crochet i like to make jewelry i like to paddle board i like to do yoga i play the viola so that's my life is a little bit of everything and taking care of the kids and and the family and this is just a fun place for all of us to be together to um get away from all the regular stuff and enjoy enjoy each other in life this tiny home is ours as long as it is standing up we are going to keep this tiny house and take good care of it because it is smaller and a little easier to maintain than a big home and we will if we aren't on this piece of property forever which we will for at least five years probably we'll just take it with us somewhere else you can put wheels on it when they wheeled the tiny house into this neighborhood they towed it basically with a great big pickup truck it didn't even take a big rig or anything like that and it was it was very comforting to see how portable this place is this is the kids loft and hopefully i can tell you about it before the rain picks up again but they like this space all three of them can fit on here this is actually just an air mattress we found um and but they only two of them ever sleep here at a time because then they'll fight too much this is how they make the bed this is this is the clean version of the loft this is how kids clean but we have a few bins for some of their stuff we have cute pillows we intentionally asked for a few extra stripes on the wall for them and the sloped ceiling works pretty well so they've got their heads at the end where there's a little more space they like it up here they'll come up here and just play sometimes if we're up here and they actually have some homework to do it's a nice place for them to just kind of skip away this is the master loft it's a little smaller than the kidloft but we don't mind it's a little more secluded and it's a little quieter it's where we can get away a little bit every now and then i'll even come up here to hide in the middle of the day we have a an actual tempur-pedic mattress here as opposed to a blow-up mattress we have night stands on either side with a finishing that matches the tile and the shower actually the little copper finishings we have two um lights on either side of the bed we've got places to plug in our phones um we have a great view from our window actually you can see the river just down the way from us from up here we really enjoy that but you have to literally crawl in and out of here and making the bed is is difficult we do have a bit of a partition instead of where the kids loft it overlooks the main area we have some slats here they are there is some ventilation because not completely closed off but it also allows for a little more privacy a little more cozy quiet space [Music] so i am on facebook and on instagram uh my husband's on twitter and we don't do a lot of social media we're just on there for keeping up with family and keeping in touch with um old friends and things
