opportunity to praise you the lord we're thankful for all those who are online to love we're thankful for those who are currently in the parking lot we're thankful for the family dear lord we recognize the lord during this time that we need to recognize our families the lord we need to strengthen our family most of all our church family lord and for that we want to say thank you i want to say protect those on our way to their lord and encourage those who had a thought to come to lord but decided not to this morning we ask that you just give them time to lord before it ever lasts too late we recognize the turmoil in this lord their love that we know that's not of you lord we ask that you just continue to protect us the lord strengthen us as we recognize this to the law that the country will select one candidate to represent this country of law but we ask that the entire country the lord choose you as the candidate lord whereas that you reign over this this word of the lord as we know you can dog direct direct the leaders to the lord and prick their hearts to the lord just to understand that we need peace in this world lord whereas that you just strengthen us guide us and protect us isn't your daughter and son jesus name we pray amen this is the bible says in the book of second chronicles chapter number seven beginning at verse number 13 the bible says when i shut up the heavens so that there is no rain or command the locusts to devour the land or send a plague among my people if my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face their land church we somebody ought to say amen we we we need god to bless us there is so much confusion so much stress this tuesday is election day and we want to encourage one to go vote that has not voted but we are totally aware that this is an election and and i just read a passage where god says if my people who are called by my name will humble themselves seek my face and pray then i will hear from heaven and and and we need god to hear us somebody honk their horn and so i need you to hear this worship is a worship service like none other we've asked a number of brothers to pray we've asked our son leader to lead us in song and those of you that are at home listening we pray that you will pray with us we pray you will sing with us we pray that our god from above will hear our prayer and answer our prayer it is time if ever we were going to pray to god right now it's time and so i'm praying that god will hear our prayers we're going to sing a little bit and we're going to pray a little bit and we're going to ask god to see us his people call by his name humbling ourselves and praying to him check check good morning church good morning church we want to say um thank you situation no matter what and god as we uh continue to fight for you um you know no matter what and uh no matter what people see you and us lord just be with the entire process and no matter the outcome we still know that you're in control it's in jesus name dear lord thank you so much for today thank you for a lot thank you for allowing us to feel the sun and demand and thank you for allowing us to be around one another and uh just allow us to be able to make it the the turmoil and allow us to feel your hands around just make it through and just uh continue we respond to one another and be a lot be allow us to be a light to those who want to just stay in the dark allow us to be a presence to those who are lost allow us to those who want to know and want to know more for you and just be with those who want to come to the church house but are afraid and be with those who are surrounded by things that they know that they can do without be with us all bless us and keep the wrong decision how about copic 19 and father we come praying for thanking you for these brothers that came before me this morning petitioning you for whatever they had on their heart to petition you for and father we come praying right now that 90 million people have casted their votes maybe for this country to get a separation for the person that's in that white house father all we need now is your vote and once we get your vote father we know that we can begin to heal in this country we know that we can more than likely get rid of copic 19 we can come back to your house and worship in truth and in spirit so be with us father during these times continue to bless these people be with all of one's family that's uh succumbed to this copic 19 we pray for the doctors and the nurses that keep attending to these people father let's be with us all forgive us of any sins he will be either made by word thought or deed these are many more blessings your presence on jesus name amen oh oh have the pleasure once again to introduce the speaker of the hour now he's not just a wonderful speaker and brother just because he's my brother-in-law but that is a plus amen but today i want to introduce to you brother edward j robertson from the north tenner hall church of christ in tyler texas and while i want here to say if you're ever in east texas over there by tyler please drop in and see them that's a wonderful family of god over there and they would love to be able to see you now i know this congregation is no stranger to brother robinson but for those out there who don't know him i'll just give you just a little brief behind him brother edward j is from east texas he's an east texas boy he has been preaching since the age of 12. so he's been preaching over 40 about 40 years he is married to my sister-in-law that is tony robinson and she's with us today he has three wonderful daughters they're all my babies so don't even try to claim them amen and so and they're all grown now i don't know how they got grown since they still little and i'm still young too i don't i don't know how that happened but he has three wonderful faithful daughters amen and we know that they are a complete blessing to us all amen at this time he's been at north china for the last about two and a half years he's been laboring there but he's also been all over the brotherhood and he's got his phd from mississippi state university amen so i always like to call him doctor but he's a humble man he just wants to be called brother well these things right here i'm going to leave it up to and a wonderful opportunity for us to be gathered together this evening with the people of god to worship the lord our god in spirit and in truth someone has said if our greatest need had been money god would have sent us an economist if our greatest need had been information god would have sent us an educator if our greatest need had been technology god would have sent us a scientist if our greatest need had been pleasure god would have sent us an entertainer but our greatest need was for eternal salvation therefore god sent his son jesus who did for us what we could not do for ourselves and that's why we thank god that he has blessed us to be a part of his family and he's blessed us to be here on today i want to just express my sincere gratitude to your wonderful and commendable minister in the person of brother john tillman you're truly blessed to have a wonderful man of god do you mind giving the lord a hand clapper praise give him a hunk amen amen amen we thank god for you brother tillman and your family brother tillman and i have a number of things in common we we both like bow ties we both share the same birthday and we both like the dallas cowboys and we both like mcdonald's amen and so you can't lose with a combination like that is that all right i want to thank the eldest ship here for this opportunity thank the brothers who've led us in our worship service this morning haven't they done an outstanding job to god be the glory to god be the glory to those who are visiting with us this morning either physically or virtually we want you to know that you are the honored guest of the garden oaks church of christ the church where everybody is somebody and god is everything and that god is the source of all of our blessings not going to keep you long this morning just want to offer a word of encouragement before i do that just help me out very briefly if you will god has a smile on me well now he has set me free don't you know that my god you know he has smiled on oh you know that he's been good to me oh you know that god has a smile on me when he has set me free don't you know that god [Applause] you know the lord's been good can you give my hand handclap of praise give him a hunk on this morning amen and amen there is a word from the lord matthew chapter 6 and verse number 26 look at these powerful words matthew chapter 6 and verse number 26 if you have it could you please honk could you please say amen all right all right matthew chapter 6 and verse number 20 6. jesus says look at the birds of the air that they do not sow nor reap nor gather into barns and yet your heavenly father what feeds them how many know god feeds the birds and jesus asked a question are you [Music] not worth more than day matthew chapter 6 and verse number 26 and for just a short time this morning consider with me the subject bird theology bird theology can you turn to your neighbor and tell him or her bird theology have you ever gotten up in the morning and walked outside and heard the birds singing they sing chirp chirp chirp birds sing and they don't even need a song leader to fire them up birds sing and they don't even need a hymnal or a song book birds sing they don't need instruments of music such as drums and guitars to praise god birds sing and they don't pay large sums of money for voice lessons in 1972 the jackson 5 recorded and released the song rocking robin the song was first recorded by bobby day in 1958 one verse went he rocks in the treetops all day long hopping and bopping and singing his song all the little birdies on jaybird street love to hear the robin go what tweet yeah y'all heard the saying station tweet tweet tweet rockin robin rock rock rock and rock i submit to you this morning that birds are small creatures that can teach god's people big and powerful lessons birds don't have to be forced to sing birds don't wait until sunday morning to sing they they sing on their mad mondays on their transfused on their weird wednesdays on their tough thursdays on their frustrating fridays and their sad saturdays birds sing every day in his sermon on the mount jesus outlined principles and teachings that he wanted citizens and his kingdom to adhere to god's kingdom refers to god's rule jesus therefore instructed his people not to lay up for themselves treasures on earth matthew chapter 6 and verse 16. jesus instructed his people not chapter 6 in verse number 25 and he instructed his people not to judge matthew chapter 7 and verse number 1. this morning's lesson will focus on the sin and subject of wearing people today are worried about a whole lot of things we're worried about this health crisis covey 19. many are worried about the economic downturn others are troubled by the political and racial tension in our land then of course on tuesday there is the 2020 presidential election someone has said where he pulls tomorrow's clown over today's sunshine in fact i'm here to tell you this morning that worry is loose useless senseless and worthless consider these two points with me on this morning first of all consider the love of the father the love of the father and then we're going to look at the lesson from the birds is that all right this morning notice notice three times in this text jesus says do not worry am i right about it matthew chapter 6 and verse 25 jesus says do not worry why jesus because he says your life is more valuable than food and clothing and he says you should not worry because worry is useless worry cannot cause you to die any happier or live any longer can you say amen jesus also said in matthew chapter 6 and verse number 31 thank you he says do not worry why jesus because god feeds the birds and god clothes the flowers of the field and if god does that for the birds and the inanimate objects guess what god will take care of you can you say amen and then he says in verse number 34 he says do not worry about tomorrow for tomorrow will care for itself each day has enough trouble of his own in other words he's teaching us there that today is the tomorrow you were worried about you i better say that again today is the tomorrow you were worried about on yesterday in other words we got to learn church how to take one day at a time can you say amen in correlation with these three prohibitions jesus teaches profound truths about our heavenly father look at what he says he says first of all that our father sees what we do according to matthew chapter six and verse number four that's why you don't have to advertise when these you don't have to publicize on the radio you know why because god sees every good thing that and he hears every good word that you speak can you say amen and then he says second he says our father knows that he not only sees but our father knows what we need even before we ask am i right about it that's why he says in matthew chapter 6 and verse number 32 he says for the gentiles eagerly seek after all these things for your heavenly father what knows that you need what all these things i'm trying to tell you this morning my brothers and sisters that we got to know that we serve a father who will meet our every need now let me say something here while i'm going we must not confuse our needs with our wounds somebody ought to help me this morning don't confuse your needs with your wants you might want a house in beverly hills that's what you want but what you really need is a affordable comfortable roof over your head somebody to help me this morning you you might want a 2020 lexus come on somebody but what you really need is reliable transportation point b pre-charm for the robbers you see you might want a t-bone steak every night that's what you want but what we really need is healthy food to sustain us from day to day didn't jesus teach us to pray father give us this day our daily bread am i right about it and then third jesus says that our father feeds the birds man i love this here in verse number 26 he said look at look at the birds of the air look at the birds of the air he says that in verse 26 and then he says our father clothes the lilies of the field you see if god does that for creatures that are not even made in his image what do you think don't you know that god will clothe us god will feed us god will lead us and god will take care of his own stop your worry turn to your neighbor and say stop worrying stop worrying you see you see here's the question this morning here's the question do you know who your daddy is who is your daddy you see if your daddy is the false gods of this world then you have reason to worry amen if pms pms i'm talking about power money sex come on somebody if that's your daddy you got a reason somebody to help me this morning oh y'all not ready for me y'all not ready for me this morning you you see you see if power is your daddy you might lose that and then you'll be despondent if money is your daddy that can vanish away and you'll be disappointed if sports is your daddy help me somebody the football games might be shut down and then your season is in jeopardy you'll be depressed but if god is your dad [Applause] the god of the universe is your daddy you don't have anything to worry about somebody help me this morning why because you know that god is in control am i right about it amen god is in control you see if god is your daddy you know that god is in control even of covet 19. amen god how many of y'all believe that way baby come here can you honk this morning yeah yes yes god he's in control help me somebody god is in control even up this economy am i right about it god is even in control of the politicians come on somebody yes i got booked for what i'm talking about psalm 75 psalm 75 verses number six and seven you ought to write the verse down here write this verse down and and contemplate it on and throughout the week psalm 75 in verse 6. verse 6 says for not from the east nor from the west nor from the desert comes exaltation but god how many can say but to god but god is the judge he puts one up he puts one down and exalts another what are you saying brother robinson god can exalt one man and he can demote another man i'm trying to tell you that ultimately god has the last say yes i got my vote in the first day i pardoned but i'm leaving the rest in the hands of god because whoever god wants to get in help me somebody i realize that that person who is in office who sits in the white house does not put food on my table he does not put clothes on my back i know that god takes care of me can you say amen on this morning oh yes oh yes oh yes you see god is even in control of the racial and social strife in our land god can make the wolf his own no wonder the psalmist said in psalm 37 and verse number 25 he says i have been young but now i am what i am oh how many all can testify this way i have been young but now i am old yet i've never seen what the righteous forsaken nor his seed begging bread i'm telling you this morning brothers and sisters that god is in control and god is able to do anything but fail that leads me to my second and final point will be yours let's look at the lessons the lessons from the birds birds are small creatures but they can teach us where the powers some big big lessons i don't you see i'm a bird watch i know a lot of y'all from the big time city y'all don't know about watching birds but but i like to study birds i watch birds but i eat gizzas and pork chops but you see helping somebody you see you see you see when was the last time when was the last time you saw a bird with a nose when was the last time you saw a bird stressed out help me somebody amen nervously smoking a cigarette can y'all say amen this morning you see that's why jesus says he says look at the birds of the air you see we try to get too deep in the church of christ sometimes you see preachers talk about ecclesiology we gotta understand theology and we gotta understand pneumatology and hormone man jesus says get up go outside and look that's the birds help me somebody why did jesus say that because birds do not worry because they know that they have a heavenly father who's going to take care of them birds are not worried about cobra 19 you know what their attitude is their attitude is this too shall pass somebody to help me this morning that this too shall pass it might not be next week it might not be next month or next year but this too shall pass you know what the birds think about the presidential election and tell you what the birds think about the presidential election the birds attitude is this who gets elected i'm still gonna eat because god is gonna do y'all hear me this morning because i have a heavenly father now let me tell you something about god feeding the birds i believe that i know that in fact i i saw some birds this morning when i went to get me a little snack from a restaurant i saw some birds out there on the parking lot help me somebody and you see no let me show you something about bird yes god feeds the birds but god never throws the food into their nest birds have the intrinsic understanding and desire that they got to get up and go get it come on somebody hey amen and we got to remind our people today that even during this pandemic don't just sit around and mope and grope it get up and get your degree get up and get your education get up and get your pay raise get up and get your promotion somebody has said the early bird the early bird gets the worm y'all don't hear me this morning get up and go get your blessing the bible says in proverbs chapter 14 and verse number 23 write it down proverbs 14 in verse number 23 in all labor there's a prophet but mere talks mere talk please only to poverty in other words that's simply saying hard work pays off how many you know that to be the truth come on somebody amen but yes god feeds the birds but the birds will get up and go get it let me let me share something with you birds drink water and take baths but they never brother to him and pay a water bill because somebody takes care of them birds eat food but they never pay a grocery bill because somebody help me somebody takes care of them you see birds fly through the sky every day they never pay airfare because they have a heavenly father who cares birds build their own house but they never pay a mortgage or property taxes y'all don't hear me this month because somebody takes care of it birds will drop some stuff on your car and on your head but they never pay a sewage bill am i right about it y'all know him at this point birds would take care of their own so they don't have to worry about paying child support birds are small creatures but they can teach us some big lessons and jesus said go look at the birds and quit worrying now let me explain something to you as i move toward my conclusion this morning now there's a difference between worry and concern all of us must be concerned we must remain concerned about this covert 19. am i right about this is real stuff brother spruill and my family we know firsthand about this situation but let me show you you show your concern by washing your hands by wearing your mask by practicing social distancing concern is when you do all you can do to control the situation worry is when you allow the situation to control you you don't eat you don't sleep your heart is always palpitating somebody sneeze and you're ready to run out the door you see that's worry worry is concerned gone hey why are y'all with me this morning as i close as i close the late maya angelou made an observation one time and there's a whole lot of truth in it she says birds don't sing because they have an answer they sing because they have a song i submit to you this morning that every christian ought to keep a song in his or her heart is that all right this morning there's a song that i like it's an old school song from time to time if the world from you withhold of it's silver and it's gold and you have to get along with me get fair just remember in his word how he what feeds the little birds take your burden to the lord and what leave it there let me tell you something sometimes you know i've heard a brother tell me one time that brother preacher you're a little song bird and you know on the one hand i took that as a little compliment but let me tell you something i ain't gonna allow no bird to out sing me help me somebody i'm not gonna let a blue bird out sing me i'm not gonna let a cardinal out sing me i'm not gonna let a chimney sweep out seeing me i'm glad i'm not gonna let the mocking bird out sing me i'm not gonna let a sparrow or woodpecker out sing me because the last time i checked jesus didn't die for the robbin jesus did not die for the chickadee jesus didn't die for the cross jesus died for you and me he died for our sins is that all right this morning bird theology look at the birds look at the birds oh the song right up in the words why should i feel discouraged why should the shadows come why should my heart be lonely and long for heaven and home when jesus is my portion my constant friend is he his eye is on the sparrow and he what he watches he how many all believe that this morning he watches over me i submit to you this morning that regardless of what happens on tuesday or shortly thereafter please know and understand that god is watching over us is that all right jesus is telling us this morning in this context this time of uncertainty look at the birds look at the birds they are not worried and do you mean to tell me that the birds are more important to god than us no ma'am and no sir god is able to do anything if you're here this morning and you're standing need a prayer for whatever reason we love you we care for you we're here to honor your prayer request the bible teaches us that there's power in prayer if you're out there in facebook land cyber land you have some needs contact the leadership of this great church the membership of this great church and they will help you and assist you in getting your spiritual needs addressed if you have not surrendered to jesus you have not obeyed the gospel of jesus christ the bible teaches us that we become members of god's family upon placing our trust in christ after we've heard the word of god we must be willing to turn from our sins confess with our mouth jesus to be the christ the son of the living god and then we must be immersed in waters of baptism for the remission of sins and the lord will add you to his church if you know you need to come you know you need to respond we love you we you there's a song i know you know it good brothers the lord to forgive me and keep um the premier family my children my mother robin um she's going through a lot right now um just trying to stay focused and thinking about her mother while she's away and i need to um i'm getting stronger i'm a better mother but lord just keep us and keep the family in your prayers god is so good you know we all have to stop worrying and let god rule our lives i'm going to ask this moment if bob will come bob johnson one of our elders will come and lead our hearts in prayer and afterwards we'll be preparing our hearts for the communion bob johnson oh god in heaven thank you so much for this day for the preaching of your word for allowing us to worship you in spirit and in truth for allowing us father to sing songs of zion to you for allowing us to pray to you allowing us father to later assemble at the table that we might remember the many things that jesus suffered and died for us allowing us father to give of our means for allowing us father to fellowship with each other as we are brothers and sisters in christ jesus we thank you father for those who have come and the fact that you are a comforting god we pray to you father on their behalf that you will take in what they have communicated to you and to us that you will bless them that you will allow them to feel and be aware of your blessings we thank you god for your patience with creatures such as ourselves we pray father that you will continue to be with all of us we pray that you will be with our manservant that you will bless him and his family that you give him a good and safe return to his place of abode please continue your love and please continue to be with us in the name of our lord and savior jesus christ we pray amen my god we now come to a part of our worship in which we remember our lord and we do so each and every first day of the week because we find in acts 20 and 7 the disciples came together on the first day of the week in remembrance of our lord and took of the bread and drank of the cup we find in first 23rd verse where the disciples come together and partake of this bread in remembrance of our lord and savior jesus christ where he will partake of this cup in remembrance of our lord and he tells us to do so with clean hands and clean spirits in remembrance of him that it your sin will not be counted in the last days let us pray the merciful and kind father dear god we thank you for the love that you have shown us and that you would give your only begotten son to die that we might live and father we ask for forgiveness of our sins that we do not take this bread or drink of this cup in sin regarding your son a father we pray that our worship is acceptable to thee it would save our souls in the last days jesus name we pray amen [Music] find in second 9 6 and 7 it shows us that we're to give with love and i that we're supposed to give in abundance so that he will in turn give to us in abundance so at this time let us give as you imperative that you participate also for our communion there will no longer be any friday communion and offering it will begin uh saturday 10 to 1 p.m again for those who would like to pick up their communion and drop their offering we will do that on saturdays now from 10 to 1 pm also next week for those who would like to participate immediately following service we'll be uh having the youth to go to impact church of christ directly after the eighth and uh if you would like to participate please see sister powers we will be providing sack lunches for those who would like to if you would like message i needed that message you know this this pandara that we're dealing with it is very aggressive i don't know about you but i'm getting sick and tired to see my mom in a nursing home and i can't go and hug her see someone in the grocery store we shine away why also i know a lot of you sick and tired the fact that you can't hug your grandkids but you know what virus i characterize as a but i'll tell you something brother we can survive a category five uh we may we may lose a roof may get some water in your house you may get sick but you can survive all you got to do is listen to what he preached this morning matter of fact and i'm getting ready i'mma let you go when i microphone [Laughter] matthew seventh chapter sermon on the mountain he said whosoever hears these and doith them is like a wise man who found his house on a rock the flood came the rain the water and the the the virus also it beat up on his house and it failed not because it was founded what on a solid rock but whosoever healthy says of mine and do with them not is like a foolish man for what built this house on sand and the rain came the floods came the water came and it failed the bible said great was the fall of it let us go to our heavenly father thank you for coming please come back and see us worship with us again almighty god again you are so wonderful we thank you almighty god you sent a man heard and we preached this word and we pray that we hide your word in our hearts so we'll not sin against thee thank you for this day thank you for the power thank you for the fact that you that we are your children and almighty god help us help us through this pandemic bless us shield us from this virus take care of us and almighty god we we pray that you bless brother robinson continue to bless him give him the strength the courage the things that he needs in order to continue to preaching the gospel bless every one of us here that is assembled here we all suffered with some kind of illness whether spiritually or mentally but be with us almighty god you are a doctor you're the one that we're looking for and we realize that if we hold on to your hand in a time of trouble you asked
