be an amazing it already is an amazing day and so we want you all to be participating i hope you all put your gas in your car to come down and get in the parade on today it's going to be a powerful time celebrating our bishop on today but i wanted to remind you we are being bethel this week hey we have an amazing week planned out for you so i want you to write these down and make sure you're participating every day this week just say i am being bethel tomorrow we have our prevailing prayer night at 7 30 p.m it's going to be powerful it always is and so we're having our prayer time corporately every month we do this the fourth monday of every month we are praying as a church community and so tomorrow night at 7 30 is our prevailing prayer night and then tuesday at 6 00 p.m we have our powerful new aim ministry bishop has been talking about that and so tuesday at 6 00 p.m you're gonna peep in to a conversation that bishop and i are having with daryl and dolores beeman the beemans are new leaders of our ministry our aim ministry and so we want you all to tune in at 6 00 p.m on tuesday so monday prevailing prayer night tuesday at 6 00 p.m with the beam ends and then of course wednesday we're in our bible study being a disciple uh hold on bishop what's the title again disciple what is it developing well listen a discipleship disposition if you all have not taken nuggets from those beatitudes i want you all to kind of pick apart those beatitudes this week and study that blessed all the poor spirit blessed are they that mourn so we're developing a discipleship disposition 7 30 he's in his series it's been powerful hey did you all enjoy that last week with bishop senior talking about love agape it was awesome yeah it's always good to hear from the father of the house but bishop will be back this wednesday in his series developing a discipleship disposition because we are all seeking to be disciples of christ and then thursday um 3 p.m to 5 30 p.m we have our communion pick up because we will be having the lord's supper on this first sunday y'all it is going to be october in a minute can y'all believe it and so this thursday from 3 to 5 30 p.m is our communion pick up so this week we'll be in bethel tomorrow night 7 30 prevailing prayer night tuesday at 6 p.m tune in as we have a conversation with our new aim leaders our new new members ministry is going to be called aim with the demons wednesday our midweek manner our bible study at 7 30 pm and then thursday from 3 to 5 30 p.m we're having our communion pick up so be bethel with us this week and participate in all of these activities and it is your obligation as we always say to give today to give yes we are ministry as you heard those announcements we are ministry doing great things and so we want you all don't forget to give today when you see the giving platforms on the screen we have give you multiple ways or if you want to drive down and bring your gift your seed to the building we have that option also the trustees are standing outside waiting on you but please make sure you give your tithe bring your tithe into the store house and you bring your offering and offering unto bless him in a tangible way because once again he's been feeding our souls in this pandemic listen it is not easy being up here preaching to empty pews and so he feeds our soul every week he has buried some of our loved ones he's still standing in the gap he's still feeding he's still blessing he's still teaching and preaching the word of god and so we want him to know how appreciative we are of him so i need you all i'm asking that you all come down and be in this parade and be in the festivities as we bless and we honor and celebrate our bishop on the day bishop it's your birthday to take the time to use their thumbs just to say that and so i am grateful uh to everyone not just my bethel family first my bethel family but just people throughout uh the country and the world who it was in the body of christ not just bethel but the body of christ i'm reading a book on stewardship because i'm beginning to preach on giving next sunday yes i'm starting on giving next sunday bishop we need that though we're teaching on giving that's the principle in the bible that jesus talked about all the time he talked about giving more than he talked about anything and i read an uh a statistic the other day that was startling that last year giving was up 17 that's when the pandemic was really going and people were shut in but 2021 giving is down 27 in the body of christ globally that's a significant difference 27 yes that's that's that's a huge difference that's a 30 switch or shift in the wrong direction from where it was last year and they are saying it's because people are back out now uh because churches aren't as busy people aren't giving and so i want to challenge you this morning your giving is important to what we do here in the church pastors already said it so i don't need to go back over it but your giving is so important i need you to know today how important your giving is and so they just flashed it again on the screen you should know every giving platform by now it's so important that you give you be a faithful giver rondae i'ma stay right where i am don't give me directions while i'm talking you get back over the camera in jesus name welcome back randy by the way we're glad you're healed and delivered and thank god randy's had some sickness and he's back he come back trying to ball smoke around telling me y'all don't see him back there i'm up here talking and ronda over there doing this like what's the old song you sang in school shoot fly don't bother me that's what he was doing like shoe fly don't bother me but we're glad you're back rodney we're glad you're healed we thank god for that and uh so i need we need your giving to be faithful today i need you to so generously hey i want to say this and i'm very serious don't decide you're not going to give your regular tithe and offering to the church because you want to bless me that's out of order that's unbiblical if you got to choose between the two i would rather you bless the kingdom of god that allows this church to be a blessing to the body of christ and to the world and so let mine be the sacrificial gift on today i want to mention one other thing before i introduce our preacher this past week actually on yesterday the nash i call her the national treasure of our church went on to be with the lord 108 years old there she is on the screen sister ruth graham ray listen she was anybody in this church knows that up until the pandemic she was in church every sunday so at 106 years old she was in church every single sunday and uh we we 108 that's amazing to me and uh on friday she told michael blaylock i'm tired and i think the lord just said okay let me bring you home so we're gonna celebrate her life y'all this coming saturday at 10 8 m 10 a.m and i want us to send uh sister graham ray out of here in absolute fashion and so i want you to be reminded of that well y'all it is preaching time now if you're coming to the parade i need you to have your phone so you can be listening because you don't want to miss this i'm so excited today you know we live in a season where parent i'ma get in trouble spiritual parenting is a fad now you got preachers calling people their spiritual father that they just met that's my spiritual father and you just met them there are too many spiritual bastards in the pulpit um who who who are either not under somebody or illegitimately calling someone their parent but this preacher today she is uh a product in many ways of this church she is our daughter she started or accepted her call right here she came to jacksonville to go to the university of north florida when her uncle dr herbert adam became the president of university of north florida and while she was here she accepted her call to the ministry let her tell it i treated her like there were no other seminaries in the world except virginia she said she didn't even know there were other schools till she got up there because there is no other school to go to but virginia union and uh so she went off to school so no y'all this is not somebody who latched on to me and all of a sudden said i'm their spiritual father she was birthed in ministry from the womb of this church she went on to richmond virginia she's now the pastor of the real life ministries but more than that so then she became uh the assistant dean of the school of theology then i think the interim dean of the school of theology then they called the dean my brother bishop john eric guns is the new dean of the school of religion at virginia union and then she got a promotion she is now listen the dean of graduate studies for the entire virginia union university which means every year isn't that awesome every dean of a graduate school is accountable to her and i'm so excited this is full circle for her y'all i'm so excited that she is here for this birthday celebration dr deborah martin i am so excited that she's back at bethel and this has got y'all she's a preacher and this is gonna be a major day so if you're coming to the parade take your phone or your ipad with you to listen as you're driving so this quiet you know when i was coming down the stairs i said that looked like tiki but i you know i just kept going surely she wouldn't be here today but she has come to join the bethel church today no let me stop because it'll go viral but she goes lord for 56 marvelous years in which our bishop has stood lord we say thank you for being that which he is needed in his life lord thank you for the praises that have gone up on today the prayers that have been lifted thank you for your sweet spirit so we ask you to continue to have your way turn turn our office space turn our living rooms turn our cars into holy ground sanctuaries that we may continue worshiping you for you are truly deserving touch heal your servant give me what i need that all of us will leave differently than the way we came we won't say that it was by our power or by our might by the grace and mercy of you in jesus name that we declare it together amen come on put your hands together and give god your best praise no matter where you are come on you can do better than that we serve a god who is truly deserving hallelujah we thank god good day to you bethel hallelujah it feels good to be back home i give honor to my lord and savior jesus the christ the one who's given me enough sense to know i didn't wake myself up this morning but by his grace and his mercy i'm here to see this beautiful day i'm so grateful to opportunity to stand here on this day as we celebrate one of god's greatest servants can we please thank the lord no matter where you are thank the lord put your hands together for our bishop the reverend dr rudolph mckissick hallelujah we thank god for reverend kimberly mckissick we thank god for her ministry god bless you mom we thank god for her and all she stands in the kingdom it's just good to be in the house one more time amen i won't be before you long because i know we gotta pray to go to so i ask that you will turn with me to the gospel of matthew chapter eight the gospel of matthew chapter eight is where we're going we're going to begin our reading at verse 23 the word of lord reads as follows then he got into the and his disciples followed him suddenly a fierce storm came up on the lake so that the waves swept over the boat but jesus was sleeping disciples went and woke him saying lord save us we're going to drown he replied you a little faith why are you so afraid that he got up and rebuked the winds and the waves and it was completely calm the men were amazed and asked what kind of man is this even the winds and the waves obey him when he arrived at the other side in the region of gyaradines two demon-possessed men coming from the tombs met him they were so violent that no one could pass that way just for a few moments my brothers and my sisters i want us to focus upon this subject getting to the other side getting to the other side diane noed an american writer motivational speaker and long distance swimmer set out one day to do the unthinkable born in new york city raised in fort lauderdale florida no ad a champion high school athlete became known as a long distance swimmer by the time she was an adult 30 years i mean at the tender age of 64 diana noah set out to be the first person to swim from havana cuba to key west florida without the use of a shark cage for protection in preparation for what she hoped to be a record-breaking swim noaad spent years charting out her course building a support team of experts and doctors customizing swim gear that would keep her protected and investing in specialized equipment that would aid her and getting to the other side and then on august 31 2013 noah began the 110-mile swim from havana cuba to key west florida with her mind set on getting to the other side she kept on course by following a line drag in the water by a support book she hummed her favorite playlist in her head in order to help her concentrate and for most of the journey she wore a specialized bodysuit gloves and masks to protect her from jellyfish in shark invested water she swam in jellyfish infested water she swam through extreme fatigue she swam even through rough weather conditions she swam on her way to the other side but then about more than halfway along her journey the unexpected happened for a mid-stroke as noah brought her arm around she instantly felt excruciationary pain as muscle ligaments within her shoulder began to tear after years of training and preparation after thousands of dollars spent investing in her dream no amount of preparation no amount of training could prepare her to swim for nearly 50 miles with an injury that could very well hinder her from getting to the other side church in my 45 years of living i've come to the realization that sometimes life will hit you just like that while on the journey to get to the other side sometimes life has a way of creating unexpected situations that attempt to throw you an eye of course all you want to do is get to the other side get to your next destination get to your next assignment get to your next job your next birthday your next breakthrough your next relationship the next season in your life the next level god is trying to take you so you made a vision board outline the next five years of your life you stacked up your money in order to make it happen you made sacrifices after sacrifices to see it come to fruition you had everything mapped out your eyes were dotted and your t's were crossed but then the unexpected threw a mucky wrench in your game plan covet came up unexpectedly your pink slip came out of nowhere they walked out on you and you didn't even see it coming you weren't looking to have to go under the knife yet again you weren't expecting to have to attend yet another funeral you weren't anticipating the job promotion to go to somebody else and when you picked up the phone you didn't foresee the bad news that came from the other end but i came back home in celebration of bishop's birthday to remind somebody that sometimes it's not the preparation that propels you towards your destiny but it's the ability to push through unexpected predictiveness that places you in a position to get to the other side and that's what this story teaches us on today that when the unexpected happens when life doesn't go according to plan when life becomes difficult when you think you don't have what it takes when the doubters seem to outnumber your supporters when your back is against the wall even when you are at your breaking point you still have the capacity to push through unexpected predicaments putting you in a position to get to the other side so the question for us today is what do we need to do in order to get to the other side it's in the text the first thing this story teaches us is that when the unexpected hit you are still in a position to get to the other side when you just simply get in the right boat [Applause] ain't that deep but when the text says then he got into the boat and his disciples followed suddenly a fairer storm came up on the lake so the waves swept over the boat but jesus was sleeping rari from healing and sick ministering to the lost jesus sides to make a quick exit so he instructs the disciple to go with him to the other side and while in the boat on the way to the other side the text is clear that an unexpected storm came up on the lake so that the way swept over the boat but jesus was sleeping now without trying to put blame as to who was at fault as to why jesus and his disciples were in a boat on a lake when a storm hit i must admit i've always felt a little sorry for the disciples of jesus for the truth is the only reason why the disciples found themselves in a boat on a lake when a storm unexpectedly came down was because they were just trying to follow after jesus because they decided to leave their jobs and their families behind because they made a commitment to be a dedicated disciple of jesus disciples practiced the ministry of obedience and followed after jesus and because of their commitment because they were willing to do what jesus asked them to do they got into the boat and while they were in the boat because of their commitment of being a follower of jesus they found themselves in the midst of a storm my brothers and my sisters the truth is and even after making the decision to follow after jesus even after making a commitment to be to be obedient to the teachings and principles of jesus even after dedicating your whole life to god and the work of the kingdom of god even after standing at the door week after week singing in the midst of a pandemic being on a camera doing audio whatever you have to do in order to keep the work of the kingdom of god coming storms will still unexpectedly hit your life in fact the reality is that sometimes storms come all because you are a follower of jesus the christ discipleship my brothers and my sisters doesn't create a life without unexpected storms discipleship doesn't mean the wind won't come and the water won't rage but what discipleship does is put you in the right boat in order to handle the storms you're going through yes the disciples were in a right boat and they were on a lake when a storm hit but the good news they were in a boat with jesus yes the conditions around them had changed yes they may not have been exactly how they wanted to be but the comforting news is that they were in the right boat at the right time with a god who had it all out of control jesus might have been asleep but jesus was still present jesus might not have responded right away but jesus was still present does anybody in the house knows all today anybody listening know that jesus is right by your side to think and think jesus is present through your troubled waters jesus is present all you got to do is get in a right boat and i believe somebody needs to be reminded this morning that despite what you're going through right now god is too present i know you're sick and tired of being sick and tired but god is so present i know you want the wind to cease and the rain to pass but god is still present the trauma in your life has gotten to be too much but is there anybody listening now that we serve a present god even when god seems to be silent god is so present even when you experience a sudden shift god is so present does anyone listening on today know that despite your values despite your low places we serve a god who is our refuge and our shrimp a god who's a brethren present help in a time of trouble we serve a god who even a mess of our difficult times promises to be our refuge and because god wants to be present in the time of your trouble i need you to get in the right boat [Applause] not only does the sword teach us that when you're trying to get to the other side you have to get in the right boat but it also teaches us that when you're trying to get to the other side you have to put your trust in the right relationship suddenly the text states a fierce storm struck the lake with waves breaking in the boat but jesus was sleeping without warning a storm hit without giving jesus and disciples a clue that things were about to change around them a storm struck the lake unpredicted conditions changed their environment jesus and the disciples left for the other side with no indication that things were going to change in the midst of their journey when jesus and the disciples got into the boat the conditions were good the sun might have been shining and the sky might have been clear but out of nowhere a storm crept up causing a change in their situation suddenly the text states a storm struck the lake without notice their lives were suddenly changed when they were just minding their own business tending to the responsibilities of traveling with jesus suddenly they were affected by a storm and because of the sordidness of the storm disciples went into panic mode yelling lord save us we're going to drown jesus immediately responded to the cry of the disciples spoke to the conditions of their faith and then spoke to the conditions of the storm okay notice my brothers and my sisters before jesus spoke to the storm he first spoke to the disciples response to the storm before dealing with the conditions that caused the disciples distress he first turned his attention to his disciples in order to deal with their distress but when you put your trust in a relationship with christ you can trust and believe that christ won't allow you to stay stuck in your reactions to the predictaments of your life yeah i know many of us enjoy relationships that allow us to groan and moan about the issue plaguing our lives we rather stick in relationships that help us plan our pity parties and will allow us to stay in a position of fear and failure but if you are trying to get to the other side you gotta check your relationships if you're trying to get to your next destination if you're trying to get to the next level if you're trying to move into a new season you ought to put your trust in a god that would deal with you in such a way that won't allow you to move with the spirit of fear that won't allow us to throw the town when we want to give up is there anybody who knows that when you put your trust in god god won't allow you to sit on your do nothing god won't allow you to fail god won't allow you to move in fear god won't allow you to stay in your anxiety god won't allow you to stay in your anger your disappointment i don't know who it is i'm talking to but if you put your trust in god god will move you into a place that will prepare you to get to the other side but the good thing about the text is not only did he deal with their response but we serve a god who loves us so much that our relationship with him is built on care and love that not only did he deal with the disciples but then he turned his attention to that which was causing the disciples stress and fear he rebuked the winds and the rain and suddenly there was a great calm i don't know who needs to hear this all today i know you got drama in your life i know you got trouble and issues but we serve a god who's a god of the son and i know you weren't expecting that phone call the wisdom of a god who suddenly will make it all right i know you weren't expecting him to leave you or to hurt a walk out of your life but we sober god who can move in your life suddenly we serve a god who is powerful and who is mighty and can stop the wind and the rain and the drama and the message you got growing in your life trying to get to the other side put your trust in a god who will pick you up turn you around plant your feet on solid ground is there anybody glad or today that wish over god who will do it for you in order for you to get to the other side [Applause] and lastly when you're trying to get to the other side not only do you need to put be in the right boat trust the right relationships but lastly if you're trying to get to the other side you also need to have the right perspective it's in the text the text states when he came to the other side to the country of gatherings two demonic men came out of the tomb to meet him church after making it through the unexpected uncontrollable storm jesus and the disciples finally made it to the other side text forms us that the place they came to was a country called gatherings gatherings my brothers and my sisters by definition means quickly and uncontrollable so in essence after dealing with a sudden and uncontrollable storm jesus and the disciples now found themselves at a place that means uncontrollable and when they landed in a place the bible says that two demonics came out of the tombs to meet him they left one uncontrollable situation to only now find themselves in a place that means uncontrollable face with men who themselves were dealing with an uncontrollable situation oftentimes my sisters and brothers in an attempt to deal with our unexpected and uncontrollable predicaments we begin to question why it is that we have to deal with the hell in our lives because we don't want to deal with the unexpected we don't got time from the uncontrollable the predictedness is messing up my game plan i got everything mapped out i don't need i don't have time for anything to come and move me off course but sometimes we have to stop asking why and we have to begin to tell god thank you but this text lets us know that sometimes you have to face the uncontrollable in order to deal with the uncontrollable sometimes what you go through now is not about where you came from but where god is about to take you and i don't know who that's going to help on today but you keep looking at your storm as a way getting in your way you keep looking at your storm as an inconvenience but can i encourage you on this morning that that storm that you're dealing with that bad relationship you got going on that financial hardships you got in your life the uncontrollable situation is designed to prepare you for where god is about to take you because anybody knows that everything we go through is a lesson for us to learn everything that god allows us to go through helps us become better and i don't know who it is that needs to hear this but where you going is going to be a greater situation because you went through the storm your next destination you're going to be ready and prepared why because you've been through the rain you've been through the drama you've cried your last tear you felt the pain and god is going to bring you out better and stronger so you can have a testimony we got to learn to be grateful for what we've been through because it helps you handle where you about to go so i need some folk under the sound of my voice who's willing to turn around to your storm and look at your storm look at your storm in the face and tell your storm thank you is there anybody in the house on today anybody sitting at home willing to turn to your storm and tell your storm thank you thank you financial hardship thank you bad relationship thank you pain in my body thank you drama thank you mess is there anybody willing to tell your storms thank you for you know because of your storm you're better and you're stronger you know because of your storm that you can go on to see what the end is going to be is there somebody in the house today who knows because of your storm that you will go to the next level is anybody in the house glad all today that you've been through the fire you've been through the flood but we serve a god who brought you out you have a testimony that i was down and out i have pain in my body but god is a good god and god healed my body is there anybody in the house anybody listening who has a testimony that god has been my bridge over my troubled water god has been my son in the midst of a storm god has been my all and all god has given me exactly what i stand in need of is there anybody glad on today that whichever god who will do it he will be your bridge he will heal your body he will make a cooker pass straight is there anybody glad in the house that we serve a god who's able won't he do it won't he do it say yes yes [Music] if you're already on the parking lot if you're in the choir law you ought to just take one minute and tell god thank you for everything i've been through come on wherever you are come on just turn around and tell everything you've been through every struggle come on just tell god thank you thank you i'm on the other side of it now not only thank you i'm on the other side thank you for what it taught me i see your choir i see your choir somebody ought to be waving your head in your car in your house god i didn't like it when i went through it but i know it wasn't about where i came from it's about where i'm going lord have mercy [Applause] hallelujah daughter thank you for being a blessing i was sitting there saying yeah that's my child you blessed us lord have mercy did you bless us today this pandemic should have gotten a new perspective for you through that word this this season should be making a little more sense to you that word today what blessed me was sometimes what you go through is not about where you've been it's about how where the lord's taking you so that sometimes the stuff you go through ain't a consequence it's a preparation that's that's that blessed me that lord have mercy god god god is preparing you for something that's that's why you're in that because god is preparing you for something that's why you went through that or that's why you're going through that that bless me for the church because what that means is whatever the nonsensical season this is of the church when we come out of this god's preparing us for greater ministry greater anointing greater power greater come y'all didn't hear me greater commitment it's coming because of this season this it's coming because of this season lord have me listen she said right at the beginning her first point you gonna make it to the other side you got to be on the right boat you got to be on the right boat i came to tell you today the right boat she said it is the boat where jesus he might be sleep but that don't mean he ain't in charge because he's the one who gave the directives you got to be in the right boat you got to be in the right ship i want to the right boat is not politics the right boat is not philosophy or intellect the right the right boat is when you give your life to jesus christ and you confess that he died for your sins and the only way to make it to the other side of life the only way to make it through the storms of life is when you are in relationship with jesus christ secondly bishop i'm saved i am saved i know i'm saved i gave my life to the lord this pandemic has disconnected me this pandemic has put me in a season where i've become listen this was the other statistic i saw in this book that i'm reading that over 46 of believers based on a survey listen have become church hoppers on sunday did you hear that 46 of believers are not tuned in to one service here what they meant by that because in this season you can watch your service then you can go and watch somebody else somebody else it's a foolish preacher who thinks your people can only be blessed by you i got news for you that ain't true they might be fed by you as their leader but you ain't the only one that can bless them but what this statistic said is 46 of the church is not even staying on one service they are hopping from service to service to service which means they are not really intentionally connected to a church i don't care if we're in a virtual season you need to be connected because you need to be in ministry we we are working you've heard me say this for about three weeks and i'm telling you it's in the process we are working on a new platform that is going to allow members to be active in ministry i mean active we're planning to introduce it in about a month or so i've got more announcements uh next week i'll announce some major stuff but i want you to be a part of this church i want to be your pastor we want to be your pastors because we know you can be discipled in this place you can grow in this place so bishop i'm saying but i don't have church but bishop problem is i don't live in jacksonville i don't live in florida i don't live in southern georgia to be able to drive when you open back up here's the beauty of virtual space it has introduced virtual church which has introduced virtual members so
