well certainly that should be the prayer of every individual who is a symbol here in the house of worship on today not just a matter of being here out of routine to take your space in a pew but you should be entreating the Lord to touch you far certainly the touch of his hand will do for every one of us what needs to be done and I would that for just a moment before we shall read our text today that you who have come with sickness and disease in your body those of you with problems that have waited you down to the extent that you are here physically but it seems as though your mind and your spirit are drifting somewhere because of the load of responsibility that you find yourself under why don't you just lift up holy hands and just tell him to touch me think about it for a moment for whatever you're going through one touch of the master's hand will turn your life around the old story of the violin and the auctioneer tells of a violin that was dusty and all battered and the auctioneer was trying his best to get someone to just be it fifteen or twenty dollars on it and nobody wanted to have anything to do with that old beat-up violin but up steps an old man that takes the violin and then his hand and he begins to tune the strings and play the music that was reminiscent of that which angels in heaven would play and then he asked who will give me 10,000 who will give me 15,000 who will give me $30,000 and somebody wanted to know what made the difference and the answer was simply this it was the touch of the master's hand you sitting here today and you are frustrated discouraged hallelujah disgusted ready to give up on life but I'm here to tell you that your life will be instantly changed with one touch of the master's hand hallelujah glory to God come on just lift them up lift them up God as we lift our hands up to the lift stretch forth your hand down to us touch us one touch of your hand and our burdens will roll away one touch of your hand and a miracle will take place in our lives your touch of healing your touch of encouragement your touch of strength in our moment of weakness thank you lord believe him by faith and just tell him thank you thank him for the touch thank him for the healing touch thank him for the delivering touch or bless the name of Jesus or bless his name I feel this presence don't you glory to Jesus glory to Jesus [Music] you've got a handle please if you would [Applause] [Music] I shall not use a lot of time with preliminaries but we will go immediately into the Word of God as recorded in the Old Testament book of the prophet Samuel we will go to 2nd Samuel chapter 12 most certainly I've solicit your continuous prayers I praise God for the strength that he has given me in recent days but I must also confess that that persistent cold is yet trying to hang on but thus far it has not hindered God's Word going forth and I don't believe that his word will be hindered on today second Samuel Chapter twelve I want you to read with me verses 19 and 20 and for a moment let your Bibles certainly remain open to this chapter now again I assume that everyone here has your Bible just let us investigate for a moment hold them up let me see them now while you're holding yours up look to your left and to your right and see if there's anyone seated next to you without a Bible and if by chance there is someone you will know that they are new as they worship her here so tell them for your information we always bring our Bibles all right now second Samuel Chapter 12 shall we read together verses 19 and 20 but when David saw that his servants whispered David perceived that the child was dead therefore David said unto his servants is the child dead and they say he is dead then David arose from the earth and washed and anointed himself and changed his apparel and came into the house of the lord and worshiped then he came to his own house and when he inquired they set bread before him and he did eat all right we'll stop right there at this point and I would use for a theme today dry your tears and move on why don't you tell somebody sitting next to you that dry your tears and move on a man now this message might sound somewhat like a sequel to last Sunday's message from the 30 of Psalm and verse 5 where it says that weeping may endure for a night but joy cometh in the morning and in the message last Sunday we entreated the Lord to help us make it through the night for many of us are going through our night experiences night of sickness illness disease and our own bodies night of severe illness or death in our families night of domestic problems financial difficulties and some problems are simply mental or emotional but when you are going through your adversities and difficulties it seems as though you're going through the night season and well has it been stated that some nights are longer than others but we do have God's assurance that no matter how long your night may be if you can hold on through the night joy is coming in the morning but now here we are the third Sunday into the new year of 1987 and some of us are not progressing we have not as yet even focused our attention on tomorrow and you're not going to make it you're not going to make it I must repeat that you are not going to make the journey of 1987 successfully if you are yet brooding over the heartbreaks and difficult disappointments and difficulties of 1986 and years prior to that I don't know somehow sometimes I wonder if it does any good and yet I know that it has to do good because the Lord has said my word is gone out from me and it will not return unto me void but every year I try to at least spend the bulk of January trying to help us to focus our attention then set our affections in a positive direction for what God will do tomorrow and this message today is just aimed at that same purpose of trying to help you forget about those things that are holding you back now even in the New Testament book of Philippians chapter 3 and around verse 13 the Apostle Paul says I count not myself to have apprehended in other words I have not arrived as yet but this one thing I do forgetting those things which are behind me I'm reaching forth I'm pressing toward the mark the prize the mark of the high calling of God which is in Christ Jesus and here we are the third Sunday into the new year and some of you can't move because you've got chains that are yet holding you back in yesterday some of you have grudges that you can't bury some of you have heartaches and heartbreaks and disappointments that you can't forget but friend of mine I want you to know that you are never going to move forward in a positive direction until you release the chains of yesterday whatever happened yesterday it happened it's over it's done they mistreated you they didn't do you right but my god you can't carry that with you have an albatross around you Nik you can't carry that with you and go forward because every weight that you carry is going to slow you down hallelujah we've got to do what lay aside every weight and the sin that does so easily beset us and run with patience the race that is set before us so whatever has happened in the past if that thing is hindering you from enjoying the glories of the future then you got to let that thing go reach over and tell somebody turn to the loose and move forward a man now David at this particular point in verse 19 you see the man really in somewhat of a depressed state he hears his servants whispering they somewhat a fearful to let him know the condition of his little child but when he saw them dipping around and whispering he perceived in his heart that the child was dead so he asked them is the child dead and the answer was in the affirmative yes the child is dead and what did David do he didn't stretch out on his face and really start balding but he got up hung washed his face anointed himself which simply was the Old Testament equivalent of putting on some spices he took a bath and he put on his Cologne hello he pulled off the sackcloth pulled off the garments of moaning and put back on his kingly apparel huh and then he came into the house of the lord and worshiped now when you think about who David is this tells you something David didn't just wipe the tears from his eyes changes clothes and went to church and sat out on the back pew that was not David's idea of worship if you know anything at all about David you know that David was one who worshiped the Lord in much the same manner as we worship Him here see I don't pay attention to those folk that said don't take all that no I wouldn't mind going down to temple of deliverance and every once in a while bruh Patterson hits on a pretty good sermon and I I can tolerate his teaching message but now all that other stuff they do all that noise you know I I don't think it takes all of that and I know a lot of people feel that way many people feel that a worship experience ought to be quiet restrained conservative in other words it should be like Rebekah two-and-twenty but the Lord is in his holy temple let all the earth keep silence before him I don't find that in the Bible but one time but all over the Bible I find the kind of worship that David participated in make a joyful noise unto the Lord all ye land so David not only just got up and went to the house of the Lord but he went to the house of the lord and worshiped in the manner that David was accustomed to worshiping in are you with me now when I think about the manner of worship that David participated in I think about the fact that even when his predecessor saw the first king of Israel here was a man that God chose only because he didn't have anybody better Israel one of the King but God was not ready for them to have a king but he told Samuel that's all right go ahead on give them what they want now the man that God wanted had not arisen yet so he chose Saul Saul was tall he stood head and shoulders above all of the other men and for a while looked like he was going to be a pretty good King but the next thing you know he started doing his own wheel rather than the will of God and God rejected him but before God rejected him from time to time an evil spirit came upon song and you say what you want to we wonder sometimes why people act like the act you know people that you know your brother your sister your parent your child and you wonder what is it one day looks like everything is all right and the next day they are like a stranger people aren't here to tell you that evil spirits are in the earth and I don't pay attention to all of those movies on television like a medieval Hara and and The Exorcist you know whoever devil is some way up in the attic shaking the rafters and picking up the bed in the night and shaking them opening up closet doors and rattling dishes in the kitchen I mean that's a whole lot of make-believe the real place where the devil wants to get he wants to get inside of a warm body and the only thing he wants to rattle is your brain you know the only thing that he wanted to get the only thing he wants to wreak havoc with is you remember that time when Jesus saw the man that was possessed with Devils asked him what is your name and the spirits spokes from within the man and said legions for we a minute and the wait a minute Jesus don't cast us out unless you let us go somewhere can we go into the slide see the devil doesn't do any harm out here floating in the air but he can do a whole lot of harm when he get in you saw one time king of Israel let the devil get in him and the only thing that could soothe that evil thing that happened to saw from time to time he had to go out and find somebody that was able to play skillfully upon the instrument y'all don't hear me and that was a little lad by the name of David in First Samuel 16 and 23 and he would play up on his harp not not harmonica not the little thing that children blow but the harp you know the big stringed instrument he would play upon that hog until evil spirits would leave out of song David found out that there was power hallelujah in prophetic music power in worship music he earned the reputation in 2nd Samuel 23 and 1 as the sweet psalmist of Israel and he even included dancing in his worship 2nd samuel 6 and 14 tells us that when the Ark of the Covenant of God was brought up to be placed in the City of David the first time they went after the ark they didn't go right and they didn't use consecrated priests and when the ark was about to fall off of that old rickety wagon a man stretched out his hand to stop it from falling and was smitten with death instantly but this time David read the books of the Lord saw how Moses said the Ark of the Covenant of God should be handled and as they brought the ark into the city of David David was running in front of the arm and the Bible said he was dancing and he danced so until he danced all out of his clothes he danced so until his wife Michal Saul's daughter looked out of the window and despised her in her heart say how glorious was the king of Israel today as he shamelessly uncovered himself you act just like one of the lewd sellers you act like one of the guys down on the corner but what the David said he said I was playing before the Lord but now I want you to know something Michael that if you think I look bad today I look bad to you today but all let me tell you that the next time the next time I begin to praise my god I'm gonna dance until I look bad to my own self that's what the worship experience meant to David the worship experience so David included what we have here included a whole lot of instruments huh he had the wind instruments the string instruments and the percussions hello if you don't believe it you can check it out in Psalm 98 and 6 turn with me quickly back I know I'm going a little different today and I won't be long Psalm 98 look at verse 6 well let's start with the verse 5 verse forever and doing the verse 6 everybody habits a man come on and read aloud with me make a joyful noise unto the Lord all the earth make a loud noise and rejoice and sing praise saying unto the Lord wait a minute wait a minute wait a minute you see I think sometimes we forget who is the object of our worship sometimes choir members think that they're supposed to be singing to the audience and the audience think this will be singing back to the pulpit y'all will hear what I'm saying but even though it is in the hearing of the rest of the congregation you're not singing to please me you're not singing to please the television or the radio audience sometimes forget you know a little bit intimidated because they feel like such and such a person has a voice that is superior to mine but God does not require you to be anybody else he doesn't require you to be a myrna he doesn't require you to be an Andre he doesn't require you to be anybody else all God wants you to be is the best you that you can be hallelujah your voice may be broken but tell God this broken voice you gain I don't know when it's gonna crack but because you gave it to me I know that not only do you get the glory when I'm on pitch but you get the glory Elder Freeman eat with what I'm down in the crack [Applause] hallelujah listen at this sing under who oh you all act like you scared to say it sing under who and then what are you gonna use come on with the heart and the voice of a song come on with trumpets wait a minute that's the wind section hello somebody with trumpet and sound of cornet make a joyful noise in other words you know if you can't get used to this get used to it now get used to the wind section the trumpet the sax the flutes the wind section that's what David thought about when he thought about worship not only that he thought about stringed instruments turn over the Psalm 150 you got your Bible there and then Psalm 150 let's read verse 3 we moved from the wind instrument to the string section now come on and read with me verse 3 praise him with the sound of trumpet praise him with the psaltery and ha now this is talking about strained instruments 9 I said the harp is not the harmonica but the harp the strings that you play hallelujah they didn't have the piano back in that day but basically you're talking about the same principle you see the pianist sitting and striking the keys but the sound is made because under the cover way you don't see hallelujah that's a little hammer that's striking the strings just like David took his finger and pluck the strings of a hog y'all y'all don't hear me while you stay right here in the hundred and fiftieth number Psalm let's read on down to the last verse to the fifth verse and we'll even get the percussion instruments come on and read praise him with the timbrel and dance now wait a minute he even put that in there see that's why we don't have to go to the night spot that's why all New Year's Eve we don't go looking for the breakfast dance we just come right on here to church and if we feel that we want to dance and need the dance hallelujah praise God don't nobody have to clear the dance slow you stay right there in the little section where you are come on read a little father praise him with the string instruments and organ praise him upon the loud cymbals huh praise him upon the high sounding cymbal you see when David talked about worship he was talking about a joyful experience oh you can say what you want to a lot of times we carry sickness and diseases in our body simply because we sit there we fill up with tension all during the week and then we come to church and we become more tense but when you enter into divine worship when you let the music flood your soul that's something in it for Bible Sarah Mary Hart do it good just like what a medicine and I found out that many times when we finish praising the Lord oh I know that all we've got to do a pardon to the Word of God is to believe what things soever you desire when you pray believe you receive them and you shall have them but it has been my experience comes this Thursday January 22nd I will have been preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ for thirty years and it has been my experience that more miracles occur more people are blessed more people are lifted from their heavy burden during the time of praise and you can sit back if you wanna with your arms folded and something in you that does not want to participate but friend of mine when you begin to as they used to say let go and let God have his way something happens on the inside tensions begin to be relieved and there is a soothing prevalence of God that intervened and before you know it pains begin to disappear blood pressure starts being regulated irregular heartbeats start beating on schedule you don't hear what I'm saying i Riddick joints began to limber up and I would not miss an opportunity to come into the house of God and worship Him with all of my might glory to God for that's something about praising him that reaches the throne of God and I heard Jesus saying on the day we call Palm Sunday when he entered into Jerusalem and the people were shouting Hosanna blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord the Pharisees said master make the folk be quiet but I heard Jesus say of these hold that piece the rocks are gonna cry out and I don't know about you but I don't need a rock to shout for me I don't need the mountains to sing my song floor it I don't need the grasshopper to dance in my place [Music] [Applause] [Music] sit down y'all let me get through with this when the Bible said David went into the house of the lord and worshiped it simply meant that he entered into a joyful relationship with the Lord a lot of people say I don't understand that how could his little infant child just die and then he go into the temple shouting dancing playing instruments of music come that's the way God's folk react but if you don't watch yourself we will latch on to the customs of the world if you don't watch it the devil will help you moaning and groaning six months after your loved ones are dead your mourning can't bring them back hello your crying is not going into that grave and we breathe life into the frame of one who is departed David took the position that while the child was yet alive I kept fasting I kept praying I kept waiting hoping that maybe God would change his mind but when the child died David say I realize now that he's not coming back to me one of these days I'm going to him but he decided I'm not gonna die before my time so until it's my time to go to him I'm gonna live and he began his ritual of life the second life after his grief by going into the house of God and worshipping the law I don't know this message is for somebody this particular part of it is for somebody I don't know who I don't try to know who but the Holy Ghost knows who needs what I need to back up for a moment first of all and look at the situation that David finds himself in here in this twelfth chapter of the book of second Samuel David is sorrowing over the fact that his little infant child but it is his child by Bathsheba the wife of Uriah now David was king in Israel but from his position as king he took liberties that he had no business taking Israel had gone to war and at this particular time even according to the words of the scripture the beginning of verse 11 of the second book of Samuel came to pass after the year was expired at the time when Kings go forth to battle that David sent Joab it was a time it was the kind of a wall that the king himself should have led the fight but instead of going into the battle as the leader of his army he sends his trusted Joab and he stays behind while staying behind he looked out of his palace window oh that's probably nobody in here that doesn't know this story there he saw the wife of riah upon the roof bathing he desired her inquired as to who she was had her sent to him the result was that she conceived a child well when he realized that she had conceived the child he sent for her husband to come from the battle line that he might take liberty and go home and spend a couple of days with his wife but Uriah was such a dedicated soldier that he took the position that if other soldiers do not have this time of leave to be with their wives I will not go to man he was only trying to be a loyal soldier but David expected him to fall into a trap well when David learned that Uriah had spent his time at the palace and had not gone to his wife he realized that now I've got to cover this thing up and I think mr. Nixon proved to us that sin may be ever so bad but many times sin is not nearly as bad as the cover-up ah David sinned and God would have forgiven him but he engaged in cover-up the cover-up meant sending Uriah into the forefront of battle and under the King's instruction he said put him in the front of the hottest battle and then withdraw from him leaving him defenseless and alone well when Uriah died on the battlefield David felt well I've gotten away with my sin but one thing about God he always gives an opportunity to repent so the Lord sent a prophet by the name of Nathan Nathan comes in with a parable you remember I told you that a parable is a method through which truth can enter a door disguised as a story Nathan begins to tell David about a man that was a rich man with many flocks and herds but that came a friend at the town and instead of him taking one of his own flocks he saw another man that had one little wee lamb and kill the man took his little lamb what do you think ought to be done with such a man King David not knowing that he was talking about himself said such a man ought to be put to death at this point Nathan has made his impact and he points at the king and said thou art the man you were the one that God elevated you had all of these people at your disposal but you kill your ayah the hittite with the sword of the children of ammon and i want you to know that because of this the sword will never depart from your house and the first instance of a sword in the house of David was that the child was smitten and when the child was smitten David he goes down in the sack off he goes down in the ashes and he begins to cry and ask God to spare the life of the child I believe it was about seven days that he wouldn't eat and they kept bringing him food but he wouldn't accept it finally when the child was dead David said time for fasting is over time for crying has ended I've got to get up and go on with the business of life I'm only trying to tell you today that sometimes we weep over our own mistakes sometimes we're crying because we didn't use proper judgment in the past but I'm trying to tell you this no matter what your mistakes were yesterday I hear the Lord saying you've already done that there's no needing you crying about that now you might have been weeping over your own sins because you can say what you want to the old folks have a saying that sin is to blame for all sorrows sin is to blame for all wolves hot aches and pains and hopes that a vain sin is to blame for it all and when I read even the shortest verse in the Bible John 11:35 it's the shortest verse that tells the longest story Jesus was not weeping because Lazarus loved his friend Jesus was not weeping because of his close identity with Mary and Martha but he was weeping because he saw death was the result of sin all you don't hear what I'm saying sin makes you weep sin makes you cry sin makes you moan and groan but I'm glad we serve a merciful Savior you don't hear what I'm saying that it doesn't matter what the sin in your life may be when you get through crying over it get up and walk in the newness of life when David saw what sin had done to him he pinned that 51st number of song why said have mercy upon me O God according to thy loving-kindness according to the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions wash me thoroughly from mine iniquity and cleanse me from my sin acknowledge my transgressions and my sin is ever before me he kept on and said create in me a clean heart O God and renew a right spirit in me cast me not away from thy presence and take not thy Holy Spirit from me and this is the part I like restore unto me the joy of thy salvation in the midst of his sin he lost his joy and some of you have lost your joy you come to church you can't get in the singing you can't appreciate the message you're just down in the dumps but I want you to know when you tell the Lord that I'm sorry for what I've done I'm sorry for yesterday he wants you to get up take on a new attitude and tell the Lord yesterday is behind me I see a new day dawning I'm gonna walk in the spirit and whatever happened yesterday it's a part of the Barrett pass I'm gonna dry my tears and go on with the business of living I'm here to tell you today you've been crying long enough you've been sick long enough you've been upset long enough look at the new year say it's a new beginning I'm gonna put on the garment of praise and I'm gonna take off the garment of moaning huh I'm gonna put on joy and take off sorrow law rap not less I'm gonna quit I'm gonna quit right here but reach over and look at somebody and look them in the eye tell them it's time to dry the tears and move on Oh hallelujah [Applause] stand up on your feet everybody I must tell Jesus all of my sorrows for I cannot bear these these old burdens alone in my distress he he kindly will have he will help me I must tell Jesus for I cannot bear thee these old burdens DLO burdens alone I must tell Jesus I must tell G I've got to tell Jesus because Jesus can help me nobody but Jesus Jesus alone while we're standing today somebody in this building lost in sin and you're tired of your sins you've never confessed Jesus as your Lord and Savior and I'm not gonna tell you that receiving Christ into your life will end all of your troubles but I want you to know one thing that when Christ comes in you have somebody to share all of your troubles you've been trying to go through it by yourself but you can't make it by yourself but with Jesus on your side you can face the challenges of the future and you can dismiss the heartaches of yesterday somebody that needs Jesus as your Lord and Savior step into the nearest aisle and come down front right now backslider that have known the Lord and you strayed away from him but you're ready to come back to the Lord today step into the nearest aisle and come now god bless you young lady somebody you know Christ is Savior but you're not content with your church affiliation because you're not being taught from God's Word hallelujah god bless you I want you to know that the door of the church is open and if you want to make this your church home step into the nearest aisle and come right now the door of the church is open you may be upstairs in the balcony but this is your opportunity this is your time to come and number yourself with the body of believers here at temple of deliverance the cathedral of bountiful blessings god bless you god bless all of these who have can help me nobody but Jesus Jesus alone I'm not going to keep prolonging this but the Lord speaks within my spirit now and I know that there are at least eight other persons whom the Lord has spoken to today you've procrastinated you have delayed you've put it off you know this is where God wants you to be your spiritual life depends upon the radio and television ministry that beams out of this place you're sitting there in another church dying god bless you young man and the Lord has told you this it's where he wants you to be there yet seven more of you step into the nearest aisle and come
