so yes because i think what we'll do is we'll win our music we're not using this when we shoot gary no i'm good we'll decide when we go and want stuff outside where we want to i'm telling you from my experience every time i demand that this is the time is gone is they find it's my embarrassment yes that is true okay that does hold here's what my instinct is because i'm pretty good with this stuff you know i'm kind of psychic in a way really yes because i can talk about this huh that explains a lot well it explains the first part but the second part is that like if somebody doesn't feel well or something or they're really sick i can sort of have a feeling if this is really the big one for them i and i don't think this is i think this jacket is somewhere it is i never went anywhere else well so you probably can't take it off to long island you know what i'm thinking maybe i left it out on long island all right nice to meet you fellas no i didn't i never definitely didn't bring it out there so could you check there yeah it's dark blue leather and it's kind of a waist length jacket okay and call me back if you hear anything thanks all right it's just not many men that say call me back if you hear i'm gonna hear anything and it's about 11 jackets you will admit you will admit that you do understand the whole thing of comedians and jackets well i understand that and i'm not kidding i think it starts with the jews and jackets and i think meant people diminished men in jackets and then comedians and jackets you've always had a feeling about that but i have a housekeeper who will i'll call and i'll say let's be sloppy [Music] i'll tell you this right now i'll tell you this right now when people i'll tell you this right now my favorite one is i don't care what you say what does that mean when you say from someone i don't care what you say well if you don't care what i say why are we even talking people in the lobby when people do this question like you didn't know was going to be a question when their voice goes up at the end question how much does that cost and they go oh i see thank you thanks for warning me question that's another one but here's the thing nothing should change how we would more or less spend our day but i know what i'm going to talk to you about or want to talk about and then you've talked to me about anything in other words i do think you see it's this he already knows what we're doing you know what we're doing but here's the thing is i have lost clothes and i've lost jackets okay and in fact i was just upstairs in my room and the reason i wanna tell you the reason i was two minutes late you were down here before me and i swear to god this is true i went i know i brought two other shirts but i'm not kidding because i wasn't gonna wear a black shirt that's like it looks like a blue shirt is it blue or black no this is black this is where i'd like to get you down and do some uh i'd like to throw [Music] this could be about the jacket you can't find losers hi and we know about uh i did didn't i see he's gonna find it ah that's right but i didn't wear it back did i so that's where it is isn't it there's some embarrassment oh you have no idea how relieved i am you sound like a woman put your husband on i'm on camera right now with gary we're doing his thing look at how good you're right you're right i knew i was trying because we were with someone we were talking about it we were discussing the jacket that's what a great jacket it is where is it if you want to go get it we shoot another day so be it okay i just called kate to see if she could yeah that's i wore it on the on the on the plane didn't i so he's revealed how important clothes are to men and normally we would try to hide that i don't actually love having you last night you may not have told her that i said i had a fantastic time the food is great did you hear that it was great you hear what he's saying the food was great can you hear yeah the food is great the company's great she is great yeah well i don't know where we're going she wants to meet us where are we going well we should do she should meet us we should do part please meet us but let us get started give let us call you 10 15 10 minutes from now okay you hear that 10 or 15 minutes from now okay yeah let's go down this way what do you say beautiful this is enjoyable for us look at those production guys they're putting the money on the street all right there's nothing like that lake in the background though beautiful this is such a because you are you are he's you are accepting the comedian actors human challenge when i said this is going to be real and you just came in without your jacket exactly real you are a you can do anything especially when there's nothing to do so this is what show business should be just relaxing this is what we talk about okay so wouldn't it be great if you didn't have to put on all these guyses and you know all these phony attitudes i watch these kids in the audience at the on the james lipton actors studio show and i s and i my heart goes out to these poor kids because to be an actor is kind of to say to the world i have nothing to say and i want to become hugely famous because i can say things that other people will think of you and i have what a situation that is to be in it i mean that's heart-rending isn't it no you and i have always disagreed on the actor issue because i say remember we had this discussion in the car driving almost to the comedy magic club maybe because i said to you no acting acting and the challenge of real acting and great acting is being able to bring up a certain human emotion and be please the human emotion you would rather keep a container so that's what the challenge is is you're duplicating human life itself in a way if you're connected to what your own is okay fall asleep i guess i'm not just saying that it's just it's it's just we'll say this go ahead no you will say this i will say this always putting these things in front of their statements i'll say this i'll tell you one thing okay let me be honest question may i say something may i say something i don't care what you say look i love all these prefaces like that it seems to me [Laughter] out of the blue i'll tell you what i think there's a thought that crossed my mind now how about this i'll tell you what nobody agrees with let me bounce something off here oh there's a good little chunk yeah good that's a good chunk uh you can have you can you can't i don't that's where the doubles act when we go out let me bounce something off but but but what i will say are there only ethnic groups that start that up what is that to give you a moment to think even if you splurt out can i say something can i say something no you've already would have said it you do better jump in and say it is uh all right but just hear me out the kid people don't know how tough show business is in any way any way you couch it any way you couch it any way you couch it yeah i don't care how you think i think that getting into show business comes from more or less some core dysfunction that needs to where you say i want to be seen whether it's comedy okay well may or or god forbid maybe you have some talent god forbid maybe it's not all yawning chasms of human insecurity is it possible someone out there has some talent i think that maybe they want to express that for the betterment of mankind i think i hear rage [Laughter] i mean i'm not saying i know what yours is i'm not saying yours is insecurity because i don't think it is as long as i've known you i'm not saying i'm sure there's something every every human being has some element of insecurity that that's ground zero but whatever element it takes you get extra step to say okay i'm gonna put in those kinds of hours at a at a show to keep this to keep this alive and you have fun and everything but let's that's what i i isn't it grueling that's when you said shouldn't it be relaxing that's what we've talked about is the grueling the grueling we've taken this one we did a lot of walking that's us panel pan over and tell us that isn't us the woman in the green got a release on that i don't want to say which is which i don't want to say which is which but that's us that's us in another that's us after one can i say something there you go that's after one writing session one more writing session those two people got in a room and tried to come up with a monologue and that's how they look two hours later well do you remember you stopped by the show once and said you didn't sound good to be honest and you said there's no script because no one understands the pressure of not having a script right if you could say to someone imagine waking up i don't know how you can give a good analogy for that for people who it's very hard it's great no one but unless you're the star of a show you don't know what it feels like to have to not have a script and you need one that's a that's a feeling what's the analogy well i mean i heard you well i mean if you could walk up in the morning and you didn't have anything to say and you didn't know what to say until someone gave it to you but that isn't it it's more like you go to work and i think you know you ever have those dreams when you're in school in your underwear do you ever have those or you're out in public in your underwear or naked it's like that i've had both scenarios where i actually am out in public in my underwear and where it's been a dream i've had both scenarios but it was that good it was a dream it's funny it is it's a panic situation but you know you're a very involved vulnerability you're a very even tempered upbeat so you think so you say well this is one i first said that's the other ones that's what you think yeah no it's all those are defense mechanisms like this you that's a defense mechanism it's a it's a i like wow so you say so you say i guess that's another one if that's i guess if that's what you want to believe if that's what you want to believe that's known i have no argument against it except to try and reach under and feel the underbelly of your insecurity well you can believe that if you want you've got you know what you are you've got like a jerry seinfeld mind as i tune into it it is totally your your your brain so i i made this do you think i go ahead no do you think i have why do you think about life hostility towards actors i think you have a hostility this hostility towards actors because in fact it's not comfortable for you it's not and i and no i'm comfortable i'm couldn't be showing your all of your emotions no no i'll show you any emotion you want naming motion let's go back to how when you lost your jacket then we'll have something to compare it loss see did you read that your mom you get it you're my i'm not mocking it but to make it real was it real when you came in the lab you could tell something was wrong because it was in here not here and that's the challenge because the challenge in life is to be operating from your gut and your intuition did you ever see that phil hartman sketch where he plays the acting teacher i don't know i must have but yeah you've got to get the phil hartman saturday night live dvd okay there's so much great stuff on there i was a big fan of his i'm assuming you were too yeah sure funny guy such a talented guy that's sketchy he plays the acting teacher this is something this is nothing this is something this is nothing go i don't think women should be in the business well funny oh but he rest in peace so this is what i want i'll tell you why i have hostility towards the acting profession yeah because i don't feel the comedians get proper recognition for the for succeeding at what they do which is a much more difficult thing i believe that actors and the actors i know will acknowledge that stand-up comedians or doing comedy they'll they'll usually go oh my god how do you do that i don't care about this it's the culture it's the culture yeah always does i saw him he did the same jokes again you write a joke yeah you know he i will say this they say he's doing the same jokes again and yet i'm going to a broadway show where they've been doing the same play for about six months now where's the whining about that well i'm going to stand up and say my god you're kidding me i was here last night you did the same act yeah yeah all right let's see we're gonna eat but why was my show honestly messier to do as i know it than yours you did more episodes how do you know what mine was it feels like what what feels back to the feelings again bringing up feelings why do i always feel like the girl when i'm with you because you pushed the revolving door that's why well because i'm trying to supposed to do that i i'm trying to oh i see you bro i'll tell you i'll answer your question if you want an answer do you want an answer i don't think you're ready for it because you because my show was um more of a performance show whereas your show a lot of the great humor of your show was brought to it by a uh you had a different heir on your you had a really was a realism right that my show did not have my show was very a what would you call it presentational situation comedy the way you've seen it before it was just you know the writing may have been unusual but there was nothing really about the performance that that you would say is anything different whereas your show for me stands out amongst all other sitcoms in terms of having its own um tone and the air on your show felt different well so that's why i think it may have felt messier to you or more difficult to wrangle because you you were letting all this stuff all this reality kind of um affect the actors and the stories and that's what made the show great so that may be why it felt messy but that was the greatness of the show yeah but see you know this is where you but you make me angry because hey you you people also don't they don't know i'm going to go back to the acting the writer you are they just don't know the writer you it doesn't matter you know i say that all the time so who's here i've seen you when you uh post saturday night live you're solid as a rock and and funny and you could choose when you come on came on my show you can act and you're doing it now the fact that you're sitting there i would love this could be a scene in a movie well it could i i'm not making a joke i'd have more action in a less whining about the jacket i mean it'd still be better than the alien thing i guess but here's the thing the pixelated aliens i'd love to get you in a place where you're you're in this space yeah but you can do it because it's interesting to me so because now you're you're a successful man you're a funny man well it's interesting there's not enough acting out there everyone in the world is acting every week there's eight more movies come out enough acting stop when is america going to be entertained when is it enough oh it's another that's a different subject america will never be entertained enough that's how the country started in god we trust it's just the spin it's a big entertainment program yeah it's a big program oh that's a fun that's the best light of the day so i'm just trying to get god we trust is just a spin it's just an entertainment place it's a big entertainment would you feed me please we're going to go eat folks have a nice day thank you oh do you want to come meet us thank you we're at the super gun 73rd in madison no we like this place we sit at the counter thanks you're welcome okay thank you sir you're welcome where do you want to sit gary it doesn't matter i could sit against the window oh this is it huh i have a cheeseburger with french fries cheeseburger with french fries can i get it meaty oh no you don't cook you cook it one way right medium whatever yeah medium yeah you're gonna have so much fun assembling this are you gonna do it you're gonna get in there and cut it up yeah well he's fantastic but the fact is we're gonna leave a lot of these things much longer than you would think is possible i believe and then we'll see if how much we can get away with because the whole no editing is the most wonderful medium editing is a medium yes but what this is is supposed to be laying there like you're seeing life you're seeing us in a way that i was an editor of the internet conversation in life as well as art for the what were the things you were thinking and then i'll talk about the things i was thinking mr seinfeld the thing that i wonder um if i think about you which i sort of wonder what that must be like is that both of you guys sort of ended hugely successful projects which were both sort of groundbreaking and sell it hugely celebrated when you were both relatively young and in a country where people are always striving uphill and want so much to succeed i guess when i think about you i always go i wonder what that must have been like to actually have got to the top of that mountain and said okay that's good i'm finished as a you know as a relatively young person like like it's a wonderful thing because then you have you know the advantage of being able to drop the money slash paying baggage and really you know if you don't have the guts to be a pure artist from the beginning which virtually you know not too many people do you're certainly free to do it now but the thing about television is that it it always wins in the end television always wins in other words those these shows that we had if we didn't kill them they would kill us and it's not a fair fight and you can subdue it for a period of time a long period of time we were fortunate in a long period of time but you know it's only getting stronger and you're only getting weaker did you feel that way yes and i knew someday and i didn't know when it was it might have been the next season might have been the one after that one day this thing is going to smite me down and people are going to jump and cheer at the failure that the show has become and so the trick is to make the neat and graceful exit before it gets that chance and people and and the people on with that that made my show said well look at they showed me the ratings they look the ratings are still going up i said i don't want to know where that line ends because the only way to know is when you go past it yes sir thank you you want some pickles pickles please thank you you
