today we're going to compare the brand new Galaxy s24 Ultra against the iPhone 15 Pro Max both have fantastic features for every level from you know amateur to Pro levels and I do have a clear preference but today I'm going to try and keep it as balanced as possible because I know that there are things that I think are important to me that may not be that important to you but I am going to say this just for a bit of context there's a lot of videos out there from people who use iPhones throughout the whole year that suddenly switched to Samsung well in my case I actually did completely switch to the s23 re Ultra last year and that was after 15 years of using iPhones as my main device what I'm trying to say is I do appreciate that switching is not easy as much as it seems easy based on the videos that you might watch out there so you should probably take these videos including mine as well with a pinch of s it's funny actually last time we reviewed the 15 Pro Max versus the s23 ultra a lot of you told me that it wasn't really a fair comparison and I should wait for the s24 ultra well here we are and if you know the channel you know that we're going to be covering quite a bit in this video potentially spinning across multi multiple videos but this is going to be round one and I'm going to try and cover as much as possible here and there is quite a bit to cover today but let's start with the cameras right because that is at the end of the day what these things have become right they are first cameras and then they are smartphones and talking about cameras we are using the insta 360 a pro to record this today but I'll show you where that footage is coming from and where the audio is coming from as well so you know if I'm using one of these devices or that camera so for this bit we're going to just do like a normal like a 1X this is the photos that you probably take anyway most of the time on 12 megapixels I know on the iPhone we've got raw Max in here but for this test we're just going to do it without Ro Max try and get a like for like comparison of a kind of the 1X camera here avoid the pigeons as well I don't really use 3x a lot I'm going to do 2x on the iPhone and then 5x which is my favorite lens for for things like you know when I spot something that is it's got a bit of foreground like that lamp over there I like already how the iPhone sort of blurs the background a little bit on on the viewfinder try and keep it stable one of the things about the um the new screen is that sometimes you take a photo you go home and you check and thought Oh my gosh it was out of focus I've been complaining a lot about this new screen about the colors but what I can tell straight away is that on the s24 ultra the colors look a little bit more Vivid than on the iPhone and actually looking at the actual thing with my you know my naked eye they're both a little bit unreal right cuz that's a bit washed out and that's maybe a little bit too saturated but that to me feels closer to the real thing and it was here that I realized an important thing about the cameras and the differences between these two devices right right now in the current versions of the software there's a clear difference between the s24 ultra and the 15 Pro Max when it comes to you know the experience of taking a photo not just in the output that we're getting there's a big difference there as well as you can see here but also when it comes to the viewfinder right when you're trying to kind of see what you're trying to take a photo of in two different aspects the first aspect is the color they're both amazing displays but I do think the s24 ultra right now especially is showing me what my eyes are seeing a bit better and the second aspect is the viewfinder before taking the shot it's incredible how crap this Samsung looks you know before you take the shot and then how amazing it looks after processing I don't know what's going on here but for me there's a level of Tolerance when it comes to these things I only really noticed this and it kind of bothers me a little bit more than in other modes but it mainly bothers me in portrait shots and perhaps that's the most annoying one for everybody right because that's out of everything one of the shots that you care about I prefer the portrait shots that comes out of the s24 ultra but I much prefer the experience of taking the portrait shot on the iPhone I know there are different things that that may impact the shot as well right I've proved that in different videos and in this video as well you might see some differences here and there's of course software updates that will probably improve that later on but when that happens I'll do another video about it for the avoidance of Doubt here's a screenshot of my build number and software details on both devices now prom modes this is one of the reasons why you know to get the pro range iPhone or the ultra devices in the Samsung right we get these amazing extra features on a software perspective and Hardware as well that you might not get on the Plus or the non-pro iPhones I got to say though in this Pro mode this is when you start to see the big differences in approach of the iPhone versus the s24 ultra even in this range where you've got you know Pro capabilities it's still very intuitive very easy to use you know from a camera perspective it's you almost like a foolproof device right you can really take amazing shots using Pro settings in here without having to know anything about photography at all there are some toggles that you go into settings and a couple of things that you do need to know but it still feels very basic if you really want to do more on the iPhone you probably need to get like a third party app to really give you those granular controls on on the camera app whereas with the s24 ultra every single camera setting that you could possibly imagine that you gain like any camera is here so here you know it's more for professionals really know on the iPhone is very easy anyone can do on the s24 ultra I think it's more for people who know what they're doing to go into expert raw and actually mess with the settings so I got the same effect but I think I Overexposed a little bit on the sky if you look at the iPhone it's definitely a little bit more Overexposed on this but if I change the ND filter maybe to 256 then and increase the speed a bit more okay yeah that looks good still Overexposed on the s24 which is really annoying and this is when an ND filter an actual ND filter might help so let me try with that you can see you can barely see anything on the screen I really enjoy taking long exposure shots in general especially in the evenings but to me especially long exposure in daylight an ND filter still gives us a better control over the shot but the digital ND filter on the s24 ultra is a nice touch that may kind of save your shot in some situations I did notice something very interesting with the 5x in general the s24 ultra 5x seemed wider to me I mean let let me know what you thinking and I don't remember exactly what the the fullframe equivalent is here but it's certainly wider than the widest iPhone L 5x Apple do claim that this is an equivalent of 120 mil lens which kind of got me thinking why don't we take a few shots with a real full-frame camera using a 120 mil lens and compare that with the 5x shots on these devices as you can see here both the iPhone and the s24 ultra did a great job and in some cases we're getting very close results to you know to what we get on a proper camera to me the 5X on the s24 ultra is an edge kind of better than the the 14 pro Max but let me know what you thought here one thing that I really enjoyed on the S4 ultra though was actually fixing the photo in post not so much fixing the photo aspect but kind of removing things that you don't want on the picture but what Samsung is doing here okay not on device to be fair but damn that's impressive but let's have a quick Emoji game here now let me know what you think on this put a robotic arm if you think the AI is finally helping here or put a sparkling stars emoji if you think that this is still too much of a gimmick for you in both cases you can take a step further and do some really cool edits you know I'm not professional photographer but I can totally lose myself on editing a photo like this and just marvel of what you know is possible today with a combination of great Hardware you know great processors and very clever software these days so many apps like Lightroom mobile you know are introducing as well AI features now I think doing this on the s24 ultra has an advantage because of the SP pen but I think it's an exciting time in general to do creative work like this and talking about creative work let me show you these amazing cases for the s24 ultra from today's sponsors case def5 this one here I'm excited about because I've been using this case for the iPhone and let me show you why I'm excited this is the clear version they've got loads of different prints as well on the website you can check it out and customize your own but this is the bit that I'm really excited about the camera module opens up and this is so so useful sometimes you want to make a video or take a selfie and you don't want the front facing camera you want the better cameras and you can hold it like this without having your hand in the front this is really really useful this will work as kind of mini tripod as well it's very sturdy as well there's lots of different ways you can use this great functionality but also fantastic protection all kifi cases have ecoshock inside them which is their own protective material lots of Technology goes into this they also use a lot of recycled materials everything here this even this packaging everything is from recycled materials if you know the channel you know that I've done some crazy drop tests with casify cases for all different devices and they never disappoint they're always adding new designs I'm never bored of looking at them I've been reviewing for the last 3 years and they always have something in there that I like and here's where kif fire really shines for me you know it's so much fun to come here and customize your case and if you don't want to customize it you can pick from the hundreds of designs too and I really appreciate KY because they spent a lot of time with me sharing a lot of what goes behind the scenes as well and I was super impressed to learn how they go about producing these cases they have a really nice ethos of being sustainable and I really like how they managed to get a really cool balance between you know being protective and stylish at the same time and thanks so much kc5 for sponsoring this video on the iPhone we can't take a 200 megapixel shot so for this video we're going to focus a lot on Raw Max which I believe is 48 megapixels these are both excellent shots here and at times you know you really will come down to your preference but when you want to really crop into a photo and retain as much detail as possible of course having more pixels in the shot is going to help you but I would say in most scenarios you know 48 megapix or 50 megapixel is going to be plenty for you actually using Pro modes to take a photo on the s24 ultra is when I realize something else and that is about the shirter lag nice to try a different angle every now and then right just to to break things up a little bit talking about breaking Samsung seems to fixed the infamous shutter lag though I have been seeing it in other areas I mean the normal camera let me show you what I mean here probably my finger missing it rather than anything but every time I press you can see now I've got a billion photos there right so I think that problem has been fixed but when you go into the pro mode this mode here let me see can you see it you see is not as fast right you can see that right I'm pressing several times personally I think that's fair enough considering how much we we're asking them to do right and since we're comparing both phones pretty fast as well right no issues there it does you know you can even you can even see the interface right going every time you pressed it goes around but I do believe that the s24 ultra is doing a little bit more right you can even add an ND filter like a digital one and you can see just reduces the exposure a little bit um and that was a good almost like a 3 second right to take the shot really when you want to go exper raw or or raw Max on the iPhone you know that you probably either you know you're going to print this picture with a special picture that you know you waited a long time to take in those scenarios you don't mind waiting a second 2 seconds even 3 seconds right sometimes it might be low light situations like this one here I honestly think that the iPhone is quite a bit quicker to take the shots when I was trying to do this I actually you know I had to press the shutter on the s24 ultra kind of a second or so before taking the shot on the iPhone just to make sure that it was as close as possible to the same shot and the results as you can see here were fairly interesting I mean I think that the s24 ultra takes sometimes two saturated photos but the makeup of the photo you know especially if there's people moving around in front of it they were out of focus on purpose and I don't know it added a nice dynamic in there whereas the iPhone to me in this scenario without any edits looked a little bit less saturated and almost not as natural as we're used to on the iPhones I think I prefer the way it looks on the s24 ultra right now okay let's talk about video whilst watching some of these clips from both devices when it comes to video I think like 4K 30 4K 60 uh with stabilization on on both devices you know it looks really really good regardless of the one you take I have to say right now on the s24 ultra I've noticed a few things I don't know if it's just in certain modes with stabilization on or off but I am noticing some warping and some kind of Jello effect on the side I'm not sure if it's my device or if it's a software update that is needed but I'm definitely seeing that and especially if I go to AK mode which is not a fair comparison here with the iPhone but in AK with stabilization on I'm definitely seeing some some micro Jitters and things in there that feel the software isn't quite perfect yet there are a couple of video modes now on the s24 ultra that I really really enjoy now 120 FPS on a smartphone is just something that I always wanted to have even though it's the first time we're getting this is already incredible I mean I wish I had this on my professional camera a few years ago right it's just awesome we're going to be discussing a lot about video quality between these two devices in not just in this video but for me another standout feature is actually dual recording something that a lot of people ask me about is the reception on this phone and this is another good use case for this dual mode I can show you uh the iPhone right here so I've turned off Wi-Fi because I'm near a building that has Wi-Fi right now but it's in the middle of nowhere uh it's kind of you know as you can see here I'm in the middle of a lots of fields in here yeah so right now I'm getting two two bars on the on the iPhone so I'm just move back a little bit and let's see what I can do say for example I want to open open Instagram it loaded pretty quickly right and I'm kind of scrolling okay it did refresh and if I go into reels I'm getting the usual ads all right so this as you can tell same same day same time same location uh same everything and I'm just loading let's close Instagram and start again um just to see how quickly it loads and everything on two bars I think it's the same the two bars yeah two bars uh Thanks for liking my stuff this is my Brazilian account but let me just switch accounts just quick so we know it's refreshing yeah refreshing pretty quick uh if I go to just my homepage go into a real someone I was just listening back to that dral mode recording I mean I can't get enough of this mode now I think I'm going to use this a lot for like Social Media stuff I'm just trying this in kind of this horizontal form um but how good was that wink noise rejection on the on the s24 ultra um I was just listening to you back now and I'm like I know my voice um is being changed a little bit by the by the system is getting a little bit digitized but it's so windy I mean you can tell right uh I know there's not a lot of leaves here but it's really really windy right now and um I'm able to have a conversation not perfect but at a pinch this would do really nicely it doesn't seem to go beyond 4K 30 on the s24 ultra but I love this for my Social Media stuff there's a lot to go through still and I already started working on round two of this comparison but I couldn't live this video without showing you five more things battery multitasking watching content and social media and audio quality and just before I show you all of that a quick reminder to like this video if you're enjoying it of course and I know it may seem like a small gesture but sharing this video as well with your WhatsApp group or you know that friend that likes tech gadgets really really helps me this is the sort of thing that makes channels like this grow and get me kind of discovered out there and we're getting so close to 100K now it would mean the world to me if you're here for when we hit that Milestone I can't wait for that by the way if you're not sure check the channel afterwards and it would be awesome to have you here when it comes to just watching content or browsing socials as you can see it's just amazing it's just yeah very very good to use but there is one more aspect that's not helping the iPhone which is you know this Dynamic Island I can't I still can't understand why it's there sure it can be a little bit helpful sometimes times you know to have apps that that use that to interact but at the end of the day most of the time I when I use the display is to watch something or to see something you know using the full screen this is like almost 10% if not more of the screen or that's being wasted and I don't know I like the approach that most Android devices use and to be honest I wish Apple would do the same just just have like a punch hole in here or maybe something under the display and just use notifications ask everybody else like use actual actual notifications let me know what you think about that but I think the dynamic Island in this case really doesn't help did you see that I went through that whole bit without saying immersing yeah right when it comes to getting work done I mean again this is probably something that needs its own video but just doing things like Zoom or teams right opening files on PDF and you know signing a document there are things that I just think getting work done is a lot easier on the s24 ultra and like many things I wish Apple would do this I mean it doesn't have to be copying one or the other but just the ability to have like apple do this on the iPad is not perfect you know but stage manager on the iPad is awesome you know I would much rather have a mini stage manager on the iPhone or even I mean this is how how crazy I think this is even just the ability to have a split screen just give me the ability to use two apps and maybe move them around you know add to the top or the bottom and I'd be happy and I'm pretty sure a lot of customers out there would be happy with that as well there's one one thing that I reckon is better on the iPhone right now which is managing files you know especially when you're talking about large files like you took lots of videos which is what I I do in these reviews and lots of photos it used to be a pain right because the lightning wasn't fast or uh airdrop only works with another Apple device and it's not that stable if you're doing a lot of files now the ability to plug an SSD drive like this is a 2 terby from crucial I mean this is very fast very portable probably overkill for the iPhone but I love this cuz that basically becomes my editing I mean I don't actually put this on the computer I edit off of this now a lot to be said about that convenience with the s24 ultra moving files around still a bit of a pain I mean totally doable and still you know fairly sometimes easier and if you're using something like a foul explorer app is actually quite cool and you can see not just photos but lots of things that you can't see on the iPhone but before you care about this photos and videos yeah it's a lot easier now with the with the SSD the word is kind of overused here on YouTube but multitasking is one of those things like you know people never show an example that is you know real world right in this example I'm showing you here is something that I do a lot and I'm sure lots of people do that as well I'm trying to sign a document whilst I'm on the road and to sign the document I needed to refer to an email so rather than be switching you know between apps to kind of see the email and then go back to the PDF and then sign it you know I did everything on the same screen right I had the SP Spen to sign it which makes it easier as well but everything is so easy you know the screen is bright enough I can see two apps at the same time without compromising right sometimes people say I've got two apps maybe three apps but you're like really where's the menu you know you can't actually use right AI features which is a strange one to talk about in a comparison but you know the iPhone there are some AI things in there especially in the cameras there are some things that you can see for example the autofocusing when you're doing like a portrait video or cinematic mode whatever they call it right and I showed you a few AI features throughout the video today that I hope showcase how you know these things are helping me already in my dayto day but there was one pretty scary moment that kind of reminded me of the dangers of AI throughout the day I record lots of ideas for these videos right it might be like a Google Keep note it might be like ulysis if I've got the iPhone it can be many kind of notes apps that I've got all over the place it's a bit of a mess but anyway whenever I have 5 minutes I do that whatever I've got on me it might be you know kind of just a quick voice note quite a lot of times I might be out and in public like in this case here with the s24 ultra I was using the new voice note that can then use AI to summarize your stuff I was in this fairly busy Cafe you know but my brain naturally mutes kind of tunes out what everyone else is saying you know I'm only focusing on what I'm doing but the voice recorder app on the s24 ultra yeah it's fantastic and using AI to summarize the conversation and detect people is great but as it turns out it can hear a lot on this occasion it was basically like having a knes dropping tool it was was listening to like two or three different conversations on the tables around me that had nothing to do with me and that made me realize that yeah you know we need to be careful with the technology because you know these were mundane conversations in this case where as you can see here there's nothing interesting there but what if there was like confidential stuff being shared and you know that you accidentally record that may end up impacting your day in some way shape or form or those around you AI or not so much AI in this case but technology in general you know can be creepy sometimes this might be the last time you in this chair yeah oh I mean the show wouldn't be the same without me so what do you do this might be the last time you sat in this chair thought that yeah oh I mean the show wouldn't be the same without me so what do you do let's talk about battery here and I know it's early days but the iPhone right now seems much much better now even the s23 ultra I would say is Miles better than the s24 ultra right now I don't do those stress tests I mean I have done them in the past but I do think they provide some information but quite limited value I think using the phone you know out in the wild taking photos videos recording messages making phone calls you know using navigation and GPS right is a much more realistic way of testing a device's battery and that to me is going to be closer to how you use your phone but I got to say the s24 ultra really struggles right now I was using both devices on full brightness without adaptive brightness or anything like that and here's the thing on that day I tried to use both phones you know equally I look like a lunatic you know doing things with my hand on two phones but on the drive to this location I think it's about 40 minutes drive and 40 minutes back you know I put the s24 ultra on my dashboard but I only realized later that the the s24 ultra was actually getting a bit of extra charge because on the car mount that one was plugged in whereas the iPhone was in a car mount that wasn't really plugged into anything so even with that extra bit of charge which I don't know it was about 5 10% extra as you can see here the s24 ultra did get a beating way more than the iPhone there were a couple of differences for example for a few minutes throughout the day I used maybe 10 minutes I used the mobile hotspot app on the s24 ultra to share with my s23 ultra cuz the SIM card is now here but I didn't think that moved the needle too much of course the iPhone has had a you know bit of time to adjust already and a few software updates but I think the s23 ultra you know out of the gates was a lot better than the s24 ultra is so so far where does that leave me right am I switching back to the iPhone hell no Apple for me still like I've been saying for a long time still need to do a lot more to make me want to go back to an iPhone I think you know the ecosystem conversation is there and I've done a few videos on that if you're in the ecosystem is extremely hard to leave doesn't matter how many YouTubers you watch that will say oh it's so easy to move it's not I appreciate that you know once you're in the Apple ecosystem is really hard because things work in there but there's also an element of yeah it's not impossible anyway who cares about what I'm doing right should you switch to the s24 ultra well that's a question I'm going to try to answer in my next video with 10 reasons why I think you should so make sure you subscribe for that and also for my next round of comparisons between these two where I'll cover things like gaming in a lot more detail and answer some of your questions as well because you seem to enjoy those videos as well and while you wait for those check out these reviews I already did here or this video here that YouTube thinks you're going to like really as much as I shoulding all the way around my neighborhood I'm ruminating I feel no good I living life like I know I
