Funny Interview With Waylon Jennings

i'm speaking with waylon jennings he's going to be taking the stage pretty soon here on country day at the us festival welcome whalen good to be here you know looking around here i can't see all the bad things they've been seeing on tv well that's good yeah well tell me what's the latest news from nashville um well you know what charlie daniels you know taking a day job and everything like that selling snuff that's what i heard that's what i heard that was nothing but a new record you know it's it's rolling along just about like it was you know tripping over themselves and then some somebody accidentally every once in a while doing something fantastic you've played your share of festivals over the years but you ever played anything like this place um i played i don't know i don't know what this is yet i haven't seen out front yet you know what anyway looks like it's running all right festivals are great you know like they're a good time for it's always a party going on a good time thing happening and uh it's really hard it's kind of hard to uh communicate you know like you're part of the audience and um especially when the girls start taking their clothes off you know it gets a little distracting huh man how do you sing to that speaking of rhythms uh who's uh who's with you tonight um well this is the boys in the band you mean yeah we got j.i allison he plays drums he was buddy holly's drummer right all those years and like and of course ralph mooney the steel player and [ __ ] on the bass and jerry dropped on the uh the guitar and uh dominoes playing piano floyd yeah great great that's great you know what's his favorite thing at me and oh yeah gary scruggs oh way more singing yeah gary scruggs uh that's uh let's let's flatten nero scrubs i started saying lester's drugs earl scruggs son you know i don't know why he's that he won't give him a job but he works with us tell me what is what's different about your set in the daytime as opposed to at night when you can use lights and stuff i mean how do you how do you compensate for uh for getting across to the audience when you don't have the lights and stuff i um well those things uh it doesn't really bother me one way or another in one way or another you know usually um i mean i don't know that much difference in it i i can't really see that much difference at all i um i'm drunk now i don't know where i'm at no i'm trying to be funny but anyway it's like i don't know the nighttime audiences are you know just about like the nature i think maybe if it's hot like this let me be a little more up and at them at night you know after sun goes down yeah you know hang on just one second and they don't uh have that many helicopters going over they tried to tell me to ride that helicopter and i sent them a note what'd the notes say i know you really want to hear it right now sure no i just told myself i think i'll pass some country slang uh-huh it's a [ __ ] uh tommy i understood that a couple a couple hundred angels came down from up north i don't know i uh i've seen a couple of them i guess we'll uh uh a couple hundred of them that's what i heard i ain't seen them yet either you don't believe everything you hear no no that's why i was asking you they were coming down to see you that was i don't know they playing on the show i don't know last i heard uh i don't think so i don't think you'll either i should not well i won't hurt none of them if they came down it'll be all right that's good they'll be real glad to know that they're safe we got a couple of guys with us with their angels you know that's uh that's their own thing are you gonna be playing any uh any new songs tonight for the folks yeah probably my new records you know uh we do you know like we change some things in it you know try to change it everywhere it's awful hard to do you know because most of the songs you know that we do uh we're you know like uh you know pretty big song for us and in certain uh you know certain time periods throughout the years and it's hard to take one out you know which one to take out you know but anyway we try to find the best one ones that most people reacted and seeing the world that medley on your record uh catches about 15 of them in there that's just a lot of them know you know that's a i um i had fun doing that you know so what's uh what's next on the agenda after the us festival i um i think i want to get a drink of this water and then go under the bus now we're going back east again and then back home how long you been out this time yeah about 15 days i guess you know um we've spent a lot of it here in l.a i've been doing a lot of things here you know like what and what we did um the democratic uh um stand up for america whatever it was you know like this first part of the week the democratic i did that one of them were people a good friend of mine and nailed me and then we did solid gold and um the scene let's see there's two shows in the room but you know you don't get that you're gonna have to be faster in that house okay not funny but i'm fine and then i did the uh uh dukes of hazard thing you know what was that uh well i did the narration more narration yeah yeah i do that you know like every week you know and uh wherever i'm at i've done it in the bus and i've done it at the radio station and then the recording studios you know do everything but phone it in practically huh well i'm gonna try that next week you know i see yeah well thanks waylon for coming down and talking with us yeah i enjoyed it man have a great set you're
