Funny Colin Firth on His Family, Italian, Becoming an Actor, Renee's Accent, Fighting Hugh Grant

Renee Zellweger and you grant always great to have a me who's Colin Firth [Applause] Hugh Grant calls him sexy college but yes his feelings about me are questionable you studied a fight carefully I think you'll find that there are some listen ambivalent little kind of gestures they're more of affection than have you played the scene backwards I hear that he kisses you hard on the mouth that sort of thing all sorts of we're gonna show a portion of that fight scene on the show here with you anyway so how are things in your world good in my world things are yeah they're rather sort of surprising really ends there you know we've we we're in this world where we've got a repeat lover if you like a film we've already done where people seem to like it more absolutely sure it's a big we're not calling it that I mean the the the S word the the sequel thing is something we we like to deny really this is a victory I doubt it's great to see all three of you up there again yeah having fun it's great now you live in London but you married an Italian lady right did you meet her in Italy in Colombia in South America on the steps of an old Spanish church so how did you meet on the steps of the church I was filming something I was filming an adaptation of Conrad's Nostromo which is very heavy you know 19th century piece and in fact you know the experience of making it was very heavy and it was very much lightened by this encounter and how did the encounter they give you just walk up to someone who's she was thought working on the same piece you know she I was an Italian co-production and she arrives and I looked through a crowd and from a very great distance you know it really happened like that let's say Italian right exactly well and now they have three kids Maddie really is smoldering how many of you have three you capture as well yeah and my children take Italian lesson how do they know doing very well my husband speaks Italian he's part Italian yes and so and and I understand that your children are buying well my three-year-olds yeah speaks pretty perfect Italian and in fact he will no longer speak to me in Italian because he doesn't think I'm worthy of it and can you speak Italian I like to think I can but I don't impress him but he's got a very strange sort of a mixture he's sorting it out now but in the early days he would sort of count one two three Cinque and he'll say we're going to the vegetable patch now to pick three apples zucchini and some chicken nuggets have to change our ate my shoes but yeah you were the son of scholars as your parents boy that must have been so yeah yeah I mean it's I think they would have liked me to have gone that route mostly you know was a pressure growing up with with scholars as your parent not really they tried to keep the pressure off they expect A's all A's and your grades like them yeah they didn't know they didn't there wasn't this sort of Stern authoritarian thing where you were gonna suffer if you didn't deliver the grades even they were very tolerant people and they had books around and they wanted to expose me to interesting things but they wouldn't they just did the acting thing seems strange to them and were they disappointed they were just scared my nose likes announcing you're gonna be a big game hunter or if they didn't know what that meant I think that all parents when their children come home and say I'm going to be an actor there's that moment or they link maybe we can put them in an asylum they say that to me understand of the military school look at the pause will come right back with colors from Bridget Jones now this time around the it's the second time around for all three of you you know you were a and um was there a comfort level there achieved in the second film yeah I mean what really convinced us that this was gonna be a good idea was seeing each other again you know and I when I saw Renee actually delivering the lines and doing it I my doubts went out of the window and you know you're naturally going to have some doubts because when it comes to you know when it comes to doing a second part for anything sure you're doing it because there's a demand but also everyone's scared you're gonna mess up yeah I know it's only as good as the first exactly so every day that went by in the intervening years somebody said please do a sequel are you gonna do it so you've got to do the number two and as soon as I said I was doing it they said are you sure that's why you're crazy so you know it's you've got to make sure that there's enough to go on I was impressed with her her British accent oh what did you think of flawless we're good was absolutely full it's not only flawless its kind of on the map I mean it sounds to me like a sort of Southwest suburb of London you know it's it's culturally utterly convincing it doesn't sound like it's been worked on and you know I said this before buddy it's when she talks she she keeps the accent going between takes throughout the whole title hotel sure and then she'll talk about her background and is he which second lassoing Mustangs it's very confusing admit when you meet her off - it's at the moment if I run into her I think what's this phony American accident now this epic fight scene of course you had a great fight scene in the first movie this one is just as good if not better what did you have to rehearse and there's water involved I mean how many times did you fall into that it was a very unpleasant experience yeah from beginning to end lemon as I suggested before getting that close to Hugh Grant it's not an attractive experience for me we also we're filming in Hyde Park where there are a lot of restrictions on vehicles and so we had to share a very very small trailer and I I won't contaminate your imagination with the horrors I in there are changing in between very we were in a very cold fountain for a long time yes they constructed a kind of tub for the two of us of warm water because what do you do you're freezing cold November you're gonna it's gonna be 40 minutes before the next take mm-hmm York York in wet suits sure do you change and get warm and then ten minutes later you change back into the wet stuff so what they did was they kept us in their wet stuff but in warm water so if you'd been walking through Hyde Park McLaughlin one November morning you have seen two English gentlemen fully dressed up to here in water sipping tea trying to stay warm right now did you get some good licks in and this fight was a choreographed no no we basically sent the stunt man home no stump I would touch us really these guys military training or something and no self-respecting stunt man is gonna be saying right so you pull his hair so we figured that out ourselves you know I can get a good good scratch in here and we fought as we really would I mean I'm afraid if you are very angry and a little bit frightened and completely incompetent that is how you fight and my last fight was a bit like that I was by the year would have been 1967 yeah the classroom yeah I think it was Paul Langston found out that Gillian Bailey didn't love him anymore and I came at me with a yellow crayon I have to twist his nipple and it all turned very ugly and you know well let's take a look at his you grant Colin Firth having that fight their battle in Bridget Jones hope is no it's not possible I don't have to drag you you're gonna have to drag me [Music] are you going in Cleveland coming with us ratifies you see all the hormones that no ability and they really go after each other in the water that was like my daughter and my 20 month old when they fight over into anyway it's a big hit [Applause]
