FULL WEEK OF HALF IRONMAN TRAINING – workouts with an aspiring pro triathlete

i'm going to take you all through a week of training you've got to take off classes i don't want to take off so people just want to see your beautiful face that's it it is monday starting my big week off with full puffins coffee an hour long swim in the pool it's medley monday get to do lots of stroke work i got a little bit of rain today so i decided to just not bring clothes and wear my towel the goal of today is to stretch out get a good feel for the water a lot of stroke work i am stuff butterfly backstroke restroom mondays are typically my easy days so easy swim practice easy hour long run let me back up back up we are eight weeks away from haines city yeah that's a city but it's also a race in iron man 70.3 so a half distance of an iron man the goal is to qualify for the 70.3 world championships which will be held in st george utah what we're all about to witness this week is kind of this key endurance week of training that is race specific to 70.3s with the emphasis on endurance not necessarily race pace or race tactics that will come a little bit later it's about 12 30 monday holiday good night [Music] getting ready to go on my 60 minute easy run promised my coach i'd keep these runs ridiculously easy so that's what we're gonna get do little bit of footage miguel it's out there for an hour and three minutes i go really slow on my easy days just to keep my legs fresh for the days that matter you did a good job i'm proud of you and now begins the evening of stretching rolling eating and most importantly catching up on the bachelor morning everyone i like to wake up a little bit early get a few things done before i start my first workout of the day for our key intensity bike ride we're doing nothing crazy it's an hour and ten minutes 68 tss tss is the difficulty of a workout if you're doing an hour the closer it gets to 100 the harder it is [Music] i ran out of clean bike shorts i had to dig these out of the hampers my mom would be pissed just finished round one feel a little uh not perfect [Music] second round is feeling a lot better than the first i think it's because i switched up my music to some grateful dead and then we're gonna follow that up with another hour long run um i like to separate the two so i can give myself time to recover and not destroy my legs all at once [Music] [Applause] today's workout is pretty simple 800 at 5k pace 400 really easy times five so what's your five people yes so i'm going to try to break two minutes on all the 800s kidding 240s 240s would be would equate to 520s i just want to see him take a shirt off [Music] easy smooth 240 on the nose the first one is always gonna feel so easy [Music] one at a time [Music] number three back on track [Music] so [Music] [Applause] [Music] let's wrap 239 to finish [Music] i'm gonna follow that with a really easy bike ride it's just 60 minutes shake out the legs from the track workout and then we're gonna do a little bit of body weight strength stuff listening to a life on our planet by david attenborough 60 minutes easy coming to an end here [Music] if you come to haines city you'll qualify there and you're in a position this year to get your pro card we'll see we'll see what what happens there i'm gonna give my legs a day off from running but we are gonna start the day with a two hour plus long swim practice we found it's very beneficial to keep our feel for the water as swimmers and that will be about seven 000 yards swimming [Music] we've been in the pool for a little less than an hour and set two is usually the big stuff my favorite progression of hundreds the fastest interval you possibly can one easy 100 one fast 100 one easy too fast one easy three fast one easy four fast and now we're gonna go back down gonna make the interval a little easier but go faster on the hundreds treat it more as fast hundreds rather than a fast continuous swim oh what a set off to work come on jenna hurry up she's always like 10 paces behind me i don't get it i'm going to hop back on my bike kane cave is triathletes like to call it not a fan of that term because it's a peaceful place it's fun we're doing some cadence work so just trying to stay arrow keeping my positioning and keeping my cadence up [Music] 90 minutes in the books thursday in the books [Music] it is very early um it's a good time to get some work done headed out on the 75 minute easy run it's misty it's a little chilly preparing for the long weekend ahead i'm gonna take jenna's advice and for unhappy bye-bye eggs turkey not almond butter mushroom and avocado jenna's laughing at my breakfast sandwich what's wrong with it what time is it jenna too early for saturday saturday it's a big one it's very windy we are riding three hours on my time trial bike outside doing long intervals trying to hit nearing 300 watts getting these intervals started these tempo intervals should be a consistent push there's no time to lose focus not all out but it should be hard [Music] it's really windy number two another 20 minute at tempo [Music] about to start a bunch of pace active stuff to the finish [Music] that was a hard drive this is about 60 miles and for this run it's just keeping it easy it's almost like a cooldown the legs hurt haven't done this for a while and it's a good time to turn around [Music] it's the last day of our big week of training it looks like summer time [Music] sunday no day's off here [Music] we're gonna wake up and swim for an hour and then go right into a run and for me that run is my key endurance team practice is done headed on a run my run today is an hour and 50 minutes easy easy easy [Music] literally just farting around finding trails finding bike paths this was probably the best week of triathlon training of my life what am i sweaty you
