The hype for this fight was pretty high. It turned out to be really good although not as close as I remembered.

This is the infamous "If Oscar had kept jabbing, he would have won!" fight.

DLH took the early rounds and flustered Floyd with high pressure. Floyd adapted and took over for most of the rest of the fight.

Man, I’d forgotten that this was a good fight. I was looking over Oscar’s losses and didn’t remember that this was a split decision. Watching it back this morning, I scored it a draw. What do you guys think of this fight?

Dela Hoya showed great defense at certain points of the fight and he gave Floyd fits with his jab early on even when he was two fights away from retirement. Prime Oscar gives Floyd hell at any weightclass, don't @me.

This and the first Castillo fight is the closest Floyd has come to losing

Literally just rewatched this the other day. Scored it 114-114. The rounds Mayweather won were dominant, but I feel De La Hoya's aggression won him most close rounds.

Floyd almost got robbed

This is one of those fights where I just cannot understand people who say Oscar won. Wasn’t like mayweather destroyed him but there’s just 0 argument about who won this fight.

getting psyched we're getting ever so much closer and as if you've been with us throughout the night Davey and I said this is what we want to be look at the tail of the tape Oscar De La Hoya four years older two and a half inches taller four pounds officially heavier maybe as much as 10 to 15 pounds heavier to reach exactly the same David pop up the rules under which this will be contestant tonight I for all you fans who've been here you know no three knockdown rule no standing eight-count a fighter cannot be Saved by the Bell at all only the referee can stop the fight positions will have input into that and we'll talk about the button rule throughout the fight should have become a prevalent issue and of course it's the 10-point must scoring system under the unified rules of boxing this fight is sanctioned by the Nevada State Athletic Commission Keith Keizer the executive secretary and the World Boxing Council president Suleiman is in attendance so the stage is just about set our fighters will be making the individual ways in all the celebrities on hand and thief like we said when we opened the show a couple of hours ago I don't know about you this is my 830 second world title fight and there's no place on this God's earth I would rather be than right here right now doing this job with you that's great man I feel the same way and you know what we're in for a treat and we've been excited for this one for several months as soon as it was on the board yeah the anticipation started from there and it's not that often that you get an event you see it six months in advance and you can slowly catch your way down and know it's going to happen and that it's going to come out and be great and that we've had that privilege for this one and there is a Floyd Mayweather game face on now the underlying currency he's going to worry him Mexican Independence weekend and wearing the colors of the Mexican flag he has probably seven or eight thousand Mexican nationals here and that booing already he wants to engage them in a negative way to derive energy from it to show he's not intimidated by the fact it's Mexican Independence weekend Mexican Independence Day every wealthy Mexican that lives south of this area is here they're all here and this man is basically taunting he thinks that he can intimidate Oscar De La Hoya this is his act this is the role he chooses to play but believe me I know this family he's a good kid he might try crop he is a street kid you got to understand that this is a street business but he's a good kid but he wants to feed off the energy that's the audience going against him he'll try to play that into his hand he did it with Arturo Gaddy beautifully in Atlantic City yes he did and that's what he's trying to do here look at the look on his face so a little bit of concern remember this is the biggest stage he's ever performed on he's had a lot of terrific fights but nothing in the magnitude of this and this is his hometown that's right he's he's playing it to the Mexican crowd in his hometown because he knows this is Oscars crowd well he won his first title against Gennaro Hernandez he be the angel man Freddie Diego count-o famous enhances hazus sharpen jose castillo de san marcos Chuck stop calling a tour of Gaudi xianbei Mitchell said Judith Collins Baldomir Oh Lydia the world champions I'll say yeah be a world champion this kid and his last 19 fights actually this last 20 fights at 19 world title fights so a lot of experience where thirteen-year-old kid [Applause] pity said that's pity said [Music] he wants to do it his own way and try to set up his own tune in here so all power to the edifying subway just not to sit there and let a piastres crowd he wants to address that somehow and he did this way never mind the fact that he's doing it his own way this guy is a gifted writer fast hands fast feet absolute phenomenal defense he's in great shape and it's all about speed this guy is so good defensively he just doesn't get hit however if he does get hit in this fight by Austin the difference in weight the different huge straight that's his family by the way can make a big big difference this guy averages 40 punches around this guy a Burridge's 50 punches around he actually has a height of war plate believe it enough but he doesn't have the accuracy now when talking to Sugar Shane Mosley did I said give me something that nobody else knows in training obviously to cut off the ring the kids surpassed the guy he said hey Colonel wants to this asked his feet are going to be closer together because we think of his feet are closer together when he snaps out after when he runs free contention if the legs are too far apart before the heavy blows he won't be able to catch him so we'll look for that so make his punches for compact put some more power on the punches by putting it together there and a little inside tip the investigative reporter over here coming off a victory over what got obey order but in all honesty in his last no let's say seven or eight fights he lost to Felix Trinidad as you know back in 1999 we lost to Jane MOSI and a 12-round deal couple times twice watching all three we lost the bird in Hopkins the crowd is going bonkers [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] look at the crowd folks nothing but pure electricity [Applause] not only one of the greatest boxing matches of attended this is a sports spectacle this is sensational but you know it you've gone beyond the boxing fan to the average guy in a street and when you could reach that you've got something special it doesn't happen that often in boxing but this is one of the very special days they'll be talking about this fight no matter what happens dec 8 from now both guys say they're retiring after this fight if it is in fact the retirement fight which I don't looking on the concern on Austin's face all business did you see his abs to the weigh-in this guy what Freddie Roach has him in great shape and knows the fight plan to beat Boyd made with it we'll find out if it works we'll find out if he can execute it can this man who's the most popular figure in all the world of boxing catch up with a guy who arguably is the greatest fighter in boxing today Michael buffer standing by we're gonna have this underway momentarily it's Mike and gentlemen from the MGM Grand of Las Vegas Nevada Golden Boy Promotions is proud to present the main event of the evening will the rounds of boxing for the WBC super welterweight championship of the world sponsored by including thirty knockouts with four defeats from East LA the former junior lightweight former lightweight former super lightweight former two-time wilter weight and former WBO middleweight world champion the reigning defending two times super welterweight champion of the world the golden boy [Applause] my nickname I love it I love it the stage is just about set Kenny Bayless getting the assignment of his life and he deserves it okay trunks it okay here trunks are ok here not guys we went over the rules in the dressing room I want you to keep the fight clean at all times and when I say you must obey touch em up good luck here we go the most exciting minute in all of sports we're the most exciting two minutes in Churchill Downs this is the most exciting mission I've seen in a long long time here we go Floyd Mayweather undefeated 37 year old pure speed lightning in his hands great defense the golden boy decked out in red all business on his face here we go one stitch of the 12 the WBC super welterweight championship of the world at stake no shots fired yet blood goes to work with the jab to the face lost his right in front of him floyd showing his early speed [Applause] Mosca not panicking Floyd able to get in there Austin showing quickness and pulling out no punches have landed yet the Oscar is lining up where he might go on a quick crossover shot by Floyd Mayweather Oscar hasn't thrown a big blow yet a couple of little jabs Mayweather does what he does just box box box tap-tap-tap now he's got him in the corner he pays she nails in the Sun and the crowd goes very partisan mustard in Ohio well that left took money party tried to tap that seven times that's his shot who needs to catch Floyd Mayweather with that to it to be the big factor Austin not as busy as he has been remember he averages and the last 18 fights 50 punches around he's not at that work output at this stage I was a good left hook by Mayweather Mayweather getting through more shots Oscar sure no man up something big line up something big the chant goes up for Austin in this arena unbelievable Oscar right in front of him weights trying to counter him coming in [Applause] so far Austin really hasn't cut him up you see what changed like him by keeping those legs close together he doesn't have that big spread front feet get tied up by both guys unusual we have two Orthodox fighters boy just saving a punch out of babe and look at her right hand lead by Mayweather as he shifted over to the side just an effortless that he was able to get that going Mayweather is in the groove wall running mo green going laterally firing hooks and firing lead right hands as he circles and he knows that the hair is trying to throw the hook on he's legal he faces right comes back his left to avoid the left hook but Oscars got a good right hand than his aussolas over his over the right hand lead now and then has some body shots that almost smothered by Floyd Mayweather Mayweather there's so good defensively it's so hard to execute against him he's a tremendous tremendous athlete loads up the right hand and it wishes past the belly button strategic battle so far in the battle that Mayweather's women here with 15 seconds to go Franklin round one Kenny Bayless says keep those punches up you see the time remaining in the first round Oscar hasn't done enough to win this round may what the has the answers in Italy land the big vote that first round goes for Mayweather and he made it look easy but that can be done he moved laterally delahoy did not run a gamble he just tried to focus on one thing where he could be for his left hook there's Billy De La Hoya Oscars wife with a recording star in her own right beautiful looking girl [Applause] ready roll transmission being provided by Jason LAN Matt bridges of strategic television tonight we thank them they wear this corner talking man game keep going right now keep Milledgeville Roger former world champ doing the coaching he's trained him well for this fight Roger Mayweather in his own right was a great champion all right here we go round two from the MGM Grand Garden Arena Bob Sheridan the colonel along here with Dave Bontempo wherever you are the anticipation is over it's here it's happening a strategic battle in the first round stay where the punch on it Musca trying to cut him off she won a pretty good job and he missed that shot anytime he does anything the crowd comes to almost repeat well Oscar De La Hoya has to gamble and I think he has to make a statement early in the fight maybe by this round that Floyd Mayweather is in for the toughest part of his life he needs to do that all just one glancing blow this guy is so good defensive approach he might be the best defensive fighter I've ever saged and that broadcast over 10,000 fights that's a strong statement better than Ally his defense is better than Islands when ally was in his prime better than Ray Leonard and says that he gets there this is the rant yeah Oscar De La Hoya it started to gamble and in a walk Anissa whoops by Mayweather as well but he has to try and establish a tempo he was setting things up and eyeing things in the first round and now he has to go after Floyd Mayweather and just see what develops hey listen I wrote him if I'm lost load up shots I agree with you Dave is back and just go after all so you want to bring the crowd into this fight if you ask Adela Hoya this is your house you want this house to rock so you have to go after Floyd Mayweather and try to get this crowd into it on your behalf well I tell you what Shane Mosley told me Oscar does have his feet closer together two things happen he can drive on his back put more power in the jabs then he can cut the guy off in its steps so it's working he's got the guy pin let's see if he can and if not he's cooked quick he slides down the ropes Oscar trying to line him up again steeply right hand me but he paid for that one this is a tough round to score with 51 seconds ago see-sawing back and forth to jab in the face from Oscar but the jab doesn't hurt he's got to control there's a couple body shots and he knows how to tie him up he's setting up the jab to go to the body which he's been able to do getting a good job on the inside here De La Hoya has really done the job in this round as far as stepping it up over the last round and then making this the round that was just to make a statement he in terms of attentiveness he has when they were in the inside may was doing a great job smothering Losco Oscar wants to look on the inside if he can I think they the Hoyas one now he did [Applause] to make its affinity that's it fella run around and I scored three and I'm usually right in line with Tommy Kaz Marik from New Jersey I went to his clinic you know I studied em to Tommy about scoring had the WBC conventions in Thailand and Japan I know who's gonna be worthless boy anywhere he doing she is walking me keep the jab work on keep the bank working get out throat yeah don't work that don't come on he's a cool customer keep walking with his daddy Mayweather with mixed emotions as you heard if you were with us for the interview that the Larry Merchant did with his father all right here we go round number three but he even fights so far it's absolutely just as we thought the speed of Mayweather the power of Austin Austin trying to push him all the time it's Austin he's forcing the fight right now he has to and he has to make Mayweather fight under adversity for the first time in his life Mayweather has never had to fight backing up and into adversity and his delahoy on him again and his fight plan was starting to work he's backing him up he caught him he caught him to the shore now off the backs off gives him some room resets goes with his own his left hook right hand step the punishing son Oscar fine he's really coming through he's firing through his gym and then putting the shots together he's lining up trying to be analytical and then firing on Mayweather already we're seeing some things that have not been evident and then where there's other fights and that he's had to back up and then fight from backing up which is what we came to see yeah and that's very difficult Austin's been successful in them back to you mom don't worry about easing the jab I say just take it and go right afterwards throw the right hand he almost caught him with the right hand that night Mayweather is so so slick though his hands are so fast his defense is so great Austin doing a good job considering the hands-free deployed he's cutting off the ring much better now making Mayweather go side-to-side and he's on him all the time this is the first time that you're seeing Floyd Mayweather have to react to the guy in front of him rather than dictate to the guy in front of him good point Dave excellent now he's bagging off I've never seen this before I mean you see the David primarily Oscar's is really forcing the fight totally and this is that wild card element of the frighted and this is what makes the fight what we want to sink in Floyd Mayweather come back and fight in this style being forced on him now shame also told me that he'll throw jab jab to the right side of his face not intent but to get him to move to his left and he'll Prag him with the right hand I saw history getting to do that see jab jab and hit jabs by his ear and then get him to moves to his left and then crack him with the runny remember that folks Tommy Hearns was great at that and he would make you go right into the path of the right hand and then it was good night oscar has like ten apollo and he can drop this guy we haven't seen anybody really tell you but this is a pretty good round for Oscar again nice that he cut off the ring and then landed a left hook sort of in a trailing fashion he's done his X's and O's homework he knows how he has to beat drove Mayweather and he rounds two and three he's executed so let's see if there's an adjustment by Mayweather next round closing seconds of the floors on Mayweather fading and posturing nostril have no organs it's a felony the third month then the Hoyer wins rounds will escort you well did anyone ever think that kill me into this fight than Austin could actually have boxes guy a figure would have to add pressure on yeah how pressure up and then catch it with the hook while he's doing it he's doing the oppression I said [Music] no Vaseline entertaining a look we're on the conveyor you okay sir [Applause] [Music] Freddie Roach the cool tush and so is often none of that pretty smile on his face it's all business right now I've got a 29-28 with Floyd Mayweather winning the first round and De La Hoya very close to second round and very close to the third round and you know the numbers from round three delahoy at 10 447 Mayweather 17 for 40 so this is one of these when you're looking at the judges are you to be the guy that throws more punches are you gonna be the guys more accurate usually more punches weights usually but remember in professional boxing its how heavy the punches on now there's no question all the statistics of the passe team fights indicate that Oscar throws more but Floyd lands and a higher percentage of race a bunch of soaps and he's throwing 40 he's landed probably 35 punches he's very very accurate now to the judge machine the accuracy of what I call shoeshine punches or the power of what the Hawaii is doing that's a subjective way that they score boxes and round three will be the perfect example everyone will look back but kena Hoya has the crowd into it the way he needs to he's God Floyd Mayweather reacting to him which he also needs to do and Mayweather has to fight instinctively on the defensive and it's it's a treat to have to see him do this the golden boy on the assault in the red trunks Floyd in the colors of the Mexican flag to surprise everybody then sick of the mile for what a dream that he'd come out with the Mexican colors and the WBC logo which is based in Mexico City under the tutelage of president Superman and his son Mauricio Suleiman this is round number four schedule of course 4:12 Mayweather is he doing enough he's accurate with the punches he throws Oscar continues to pressure this is a ring being cut off by delahoy you see the left hook by Mayweather than Oscar De La Hoya is on him whether these legs allowed or not he's firing that book Mayweather's just smiles at him it takes a wagon upon the inside that he says come on in here Oscar's not not intimidated by this guy whatsoever to be having fun the boss but now he comes back now he lines up and osku back so there's the hands feet of he measures it with that left hand he sticks it out again that prints his blocks a lot of punches being thrown by Floyd to being blunt by Austin cost his men at the revit fight frame that one wasn't long and now though with what Mayweather's doing he got to ohio off him with these last eight punches he turned the momentum of the round around with De La Hoya on him well now he's firing off first and he stopped Illinois from coming right through him Dantas just to keep the pressure it's all about pressure and power for him for Mayweather it's about speed elusiveness of defense and accuracy of punching it and it's playing out just that way I could cost him on the fourth round though and the judges seeing that seven or eight punches to the body the ones that I hated about difference and oh gosh come on the run what about you babe yeah and I'm willing to mark that down there may be a split it was that close because they were that came back they look at this we may think that this goes up both ways in the Christ all right so perhaps I'm one of the two of the judges with the other way remember the judges techcamp atomic as american jarir our dreams very very experienced judges tommy tez merrick wrote the book watch the left hook see it here he comes ball one and you know these actually do count on there even if they're getting to look at there he's being tied up in seven shots in a row and you know what this is what can give you around that sequence right there I counted him Dave while you were talking to when nine in a row right you know right on top of that rib with this guy don't forget this probably a ten pound difference of weight at this particular day there was 12 pounds don't weigh in but you know Oscar would put on five to six or seven pounds overnight where Floyd would probably put on four so they could be as much as a 10 to 12 pound difference and those body shots as we get through five six seven eight nine making into take a toll it's too early to be predicting ended up it really hasn't opened up t he hasn't been offensive minded yet powershots 33 to 29 inflate in favor of Mayweather through the floor round so they were able to load up in equal measure as we get into the second third of the fight see that allowance punches there those hooks have being blocked in the back of the gloves and I don't know the guys the company bucks going that as it has a head or a score or what but those are being blocked the judges don't count that right now watch the name where the hook when he been able to walk through guys they'll throw the hook and then a follow up with the right hands here when he throws the hook that Ahura cuts off the wing and comes back at him the good series of punches nothing really landed Mayweather is so slick defensively this kid and presses me so much he is a terrific terrific vital much as the right-hand lead Oscar a little bit squared up but he's in that position folks because he doesn't want this guy to run he wants them engaged in the seven of the Ring if he 10 Boyd's having his best round since the first round by the way here his punch up last a nice right hand good left hook Oscar taking a few shots in this fits round with some very good round tobei whether oh he really want us to coming in he kitakata vertical I don't think he's got the power to drop it [Applause] but he's ready to get his attention with that right hand nice fast-paced of his fight this is a terrific round for Mayweather if Oscar did in fact get it two three and four in the judges score team he's not getting this round as the right-hand lead Oscar's not putting the pressure on it as much as he was now he tries it goes to the body back upstairs chopping right hand not him again it was asked by del Hoyo yeah yeah does it even up the round right back and Floyd Brooke right hand [Music] well this is a really really good fight it's really interesting seesaw back and forth two tremendous athletes Austin doesn't have the hand speed but he has the power trilled again now based on heavy balls this time this rod is definitely in my opinion with 10 seconds to go Mayweather round which makes it almost dead even the fight you get beat to the punch right now that's the bay with around boy this is getting more interesting and as the moments go by well it grows in dimension we saw Oscar De La Hoya put pressure on which is what we wanted to see boy the reactor at Floyd Mayweather reacted in the last round I will see will ask a devil how it does in return solicitor Freddie so a little cup right up right I this guy's unlike notice he's not even humping and bumping not even breathing out this guy's a machine he being as I envy you okay well Mayweather more than doubling Oscar De La Hoya in the power department and here's a good example that's a great shot right near the temple area and delahoy it will come back on them comes through here takes one as he was trying to throw a left hook Mayweather backing up and look at it how it comes to well this is the area of growth we were looking to see from Floyd Mayweather he passes that test let's see now what happens this fight is almost dead even that's too close to call after five Boyd has picked up the pace in the last couple of rounds ever since that series of shots of the body a couple of rounds ago it sort of got an adrenaline flow going before he may weather nice uppercut snaps the head of Oscar Austin continues to come forward but he better be throwing you know he cancels that kill zone where he can be taunted we talk about that you got a throat she can hit that time without slowing this guy is so quick and so defensive when he can man in the shots if you're not throw Mayweather has adjusted to delahoy yet coming in arm and he's firing off first even as De La Hoya is attacking them so now Delhi has to somehow get through without getting hit he should goes try to maximize right there well those body shots be considering that they both have six pack abs it's going to take a while before those body shots they get any effect they're in too good a shape both of these guys from body shots at this stage of the fight to be making any toll sometimes if you're not quite in the kind of shape that they're in it'll take a big toll on you the bow rasca I'm going head on right now De La Hoya is saying it Mayweather has all the momentum here to take it away he has to start getting off first remember with the Baerga was a body shot too cause the knockout but that was right on top of the level [Applause] [Music] [Applause] still a distant fighter Cisco was saying men when they're trying to load up the right hand just as he did at this point of the fight against Gaddy and against other guys he is starting to feel it with the right hand he's trying to put more into his right hand and so now missus in the penalty will be bigger on the inside because Mayweather is long lining up that right hand hospital he got there first that time in a nice right hand but didn't take any steam out of the legs of Mayweather they're both in such magnificent shape what kind of sledgehammer shot is it going to take for to really take a toll it's going to have to be an accumulation of punches and Austin does have a tendency and later on sometimes to wilt but Willie against this guy whoever the pace of his fight folks this is very very fast Oscar's you know four years older been in a lot of tough fight Mayweather this is his biggest stage ever and he's performing admirably I think he's winning this sixth round this is the most he's ever been hit and he's still standing up well coming back and loading up the right hand and that guys are coming with guts in intensity it's the type of effort that we would expect from each guy and his delivering it Oscar really didn't land much of anything he had one pretty good shot there but they were the up oxygen now as the villain in the six run all right after six rounds I get a dead even and there you go 57 57 of my score sheet remember that's unofficial Chuck GM potami Kasim Eric and Jerry Roth to the scoring mr. Mayweather Floyd senior BB shot was a bust his wife his Floyd Hey [Music] every time you throw the javelin the Las Vegas Strip panic quiet everybody's inside you know every single showroom in this city has the plate on so if you're watching us hello everybody here in Las Vegas this place sold out the Thomas & Mack centers get 20,000 people in it this is round number seven dead Ohio in red mayweather red white and green the mexican flag colors red white and green shoes it's Cinco DeMayo a big Mexican holiday so he's trying to capitalize on it tried to win some fans over by doing that but he did his Oscar got another right and here he is getting off first again this is what Oscar Hazzard once it smiles [Applause] then he'd been looking at the record tub and his biggest stage doing well the big nights for a referee and Kenny has really earned at them glad he's got a he's doing a great job not interfering with the fight at all yet keeping it clean Floyd with a hand speed crashes to the back of the skull they won that took the first minute of the round off and left La Jolla built the big lead in the round let's see now how it plays out he's so skilled Dave the guy amazing this I mean I love Oscar because he's such a big star and he's great for botching but this kid is sensational won a fight up his mayweather it's just phenomenal [Applause] look at him smiling he loves you Limited Britain he's took the first spin around he's not throwing enough offense on me to win this round now he's basically letting hallelujah come out of the entire ground and maybe he'll try to steal it at the end but this has been delahoy is running you know maybe each guy will have to take one of these throughout the next six rounds and perhaps Mayweather just decided this one is his but this is a very good looking De La Hoya here in round 7 with a minute to go in round number 7 Oscar having a good seventh round jab jab his Floyd right back Kenny says keep him up too good body shots borderline Floyd Austin goes downstairs looking us throw the right hand bang-bang he doesn't get into tight and isn't able to unload it you're gonna watch himself coming back can he hasn't break clean Oscar sees two teams that enter without throwing I don't like that I think it's dangerous for you to get on Romina now you want to be jabbing your way in because you know Mayweather has been loading up on that right hand but this is around that he decided to fight in spurts and this is a easy round for De La Hoya good run with ten seconds to go Oscar wants to put an explanation point out if he's doing that Freud was doing all the grinning and fooling around he gave this round away as the belly in the seventh that's a dental home you know as close as this fight is I don't think it's smart and I know that they were there's a smart guy who looks into the party right now [Applause] they ask you just a little deep breaths and his eyes open up like a goodness I cannot abide a schism even breathing oh god is he a matter of fact huh yeah they landed the same amount of punches in the last round but La Hoya threw twice as many so that's a gift wrapped round that Mayweather gave the delahoy Adela heart will be very happy to take it five rounds to go unofficially De La Hoya by one point very inefficient because as a lot of close rounds here two different styles fight is the counter puncher with the speed and the guy was a little bit more power out of the judges way the close round where one guys get a little bit more power but the punch stats don't seem to add up with what I'm seeing no well they're giving you numbers date they will not give you intensity and that's what is going to decide this so yeah de la hoya is firing much more the punches landed are about the same but if that's the way it ends up the edge usually goes to desire that throws more well Oscar as I said in his last 18 fights has been averaging 50 punches around and they were his last 80 fights but they were the waves go instead of sliding down the rope and getting out of it his cockiness is not the best way to fight this guy yeah you know we were used to seeing him on the outside dictating the pace here he has to react that you knew that if delahoy could get him into that position it will be a negative that he would have to overcome and he's battling with that now Oscar again he's making a mistake of alone and becoming the kill zone without drawing I know he wants to counter me catch him coming in with me to the left hook or a straight right hand but and that's possibly lock those those punches are all partially blocked they look good from afar but up here they're not that good and nothing wrong with jabbing your way and you can still try to counter the guy get the jab in first establish position and then try to go from there because to take a chance to took block Mayweather's right hand as you're getting tired is a low percentage movement the fight goes along yeah we're the eighth round now and remember Oscar does have a history of getting tired sometimes in the late round I don't believe that's going to happen tonight because he's in the best shape I've ever seen in him that's for sure a great shape now the chant go up to Austin Mosca still having a good age around for denies doing enough now see these punches are being blocked they looked nice from afar but they're far from nice it only means right they look good they look pretty if Austin doesn't make the mistakes he make the mistake again a lingering in the gills and then he get a twice and he pays for twice he's got to get in and get out and also I don't like be angles he's coming in too straight ahead he needs to work out the shoulders a little bit more but of course the problem is he has to cut him up so he's probably satisfied when he's got him in his sights right in front of the trophy I mean that's on my new point they'll see the air yeah go ahead then yeah now Mayweather was able today it's out that time a many of the rounds in his fight Illinois recorded him are made him pay for it where you saw Mayweather David's out of difficulty this is across from another what do you think I agree [Music] had it been even after six this is unofficial but it's that close and now we can put Roundy in there with round four as potential wildcard rounds as the judges may go split but Mayweather's waiting too long oh you got broken rope time up keep up his ass in the right you like you just did I feel [Music] [Music] many rocks okay so calm so collected here's Mayweather taking the delahoy a shot the left hook is familiar on that toward the end delahoy he did a good job throwing it on a tendon round he got him in a good polish and you see the intensity that may have given him around I mean he's winning the inside game and he just needs to do more other off he looks like he's got a second win now you see the head bobbing back and forth head bobbing back and forth remember at limit Larry Holmes you see his head go back and forth you know we get a second one I think Oscars got it we keeping the pressure on him Oscar's winning the inside fight game the only mistake that he's making because he's not always throwing when he's coming in when he does who scores the best hands of the Floyd again loosing mayweather backing up because of Della Hoya and as you're watching this it's della Hoya throwing more Mayweather being more accurate they've been true to that script if you had to give me a choice I'd rather have the higher attempted numbers when push came to shove and that would favor De La Hoya right now he's the one getting off first on the last four to five rounds of this fight why is it would open up more it seems like when he opens up in steps throwing a lot of punches even a lot of him you know we talked about his accuracy whose punches have been a lot of over being Wagah skis well for this guy's because he clearly gets ahead speak for Shane Mosley he's a pretty good 15 seconds for Mayweather Mayweather has not often had to work to find openings throughout his career his natural speed and quickness would allow him to dictate for whatever angle it was and then he would land a counter shot and take over a fight as he did against Gaddy and so many others but here against Oscar De La Hoya he lands one punch De La Hoya is still there he's got a work again he's backing up and he's not the one making the fight and this could cost him on the cards at the end about that effective aggression perceived aggression these intangibles they start to wake my ass to do to just fish another one of these every round and he jokes rounds while Mayweather continues to smile because it more serious look at his face right now because Oscar caught him with a pretty good shot on the inside this kids a great athlete though see that Oscars breaking a lot of those punches in the back of his left lung that's a good right hand body shot again Austin lingering in the kill zone see what happens every time when he lingers he gets hit he's lingering in the kill zone he gets hit go ahead Dave he's that one he he lands a good flurry then he should start moving side to side because why give it back you just landed a nice flurry he's scored well with the judges why gives one may with his chance to get it back make him come to you yeah and you know to see that time is all right ladies when he's throwing you when he enters the kill zone he's fine because he gets to the body and this is the floor he needs any Bayliss warning about that I don't know I think that I won this round to it I just don't think Boyd is living up Hoodie blows and so many of these punches should be in blood remember the sick guy who's going to write this thing Oscar's picking them off man hey you know I the way I see it they'd always won the last three rounds after it was dead even after six I don't know they close rounds rounds I remember Dave and I had the fourth round and the eighth round really too close to call so who knows I've got three rounds separate them right now but this is close to golf so go on rope we keep dropping on anythin shop this one of the boys I got nano Hoya winning by three points with three rounds to go could there be a draw is it too early to talk about that [Music] the big drops of a telephone and the job I'll tell you what if they'd be they'd be crying over that draw against some more grist for the mill they you talk about what you're seeing that's being accorded they were enslaved in 136 punches compared to 99 for De La Hoya it doesn't look I don't worry I don't believe that I look that way huh - - delahoy yes I don't believe that step in the mix can it caught talking about punches landing on his gloves those are clean hits and remember the way you tend to fight effective aggressive this clean hits and defense right yeah and I don't think that all those punches at this scoring landing a clean is in fact they no than that and you know what I'm seeing me the other element is that name others chattering and that's tough to win that way with the judges but bono Hoya is he starting to get inside his head I think so puffiness by the right eye a Floyd Mayweather now Austin totally folks again he makes a mistake waltzing into the kill zone without throwing and he pays every time he went alone you know he's doing a pretty good job locked in these two Dave decided that one gets thrown well he still doesn't want to be straight in front of Floyd Mayweather when he's if he's going to linger in the kill zone well you know get a parking ticket and get out of there because he doesn't want to be right in front he needs the angles if he's going to be in there now remember once the team sets in your mind makes mistakes you mind gets a little lazy it doesn't focus as well and that could be the case for Oscars we go through 10 11 he's got to stay focus again coming to the kill zone without throwing he's going to get counted the jab out right hands see that every time but they're not landing on him he's catching him on the gloves so how do you school them see Floyd is throwing rock war see again walked into the kill zone without throwing it names that's fatigue now for Oscar De La Hoya because oh they were in the fight he was on him when he did that but Floyd's winning this round which tightens this thing up even more with a minute and 11 seconds ago in the 10th round this is a tremendously strategic battle of two great athletes folks you're watching history a throwback fight no this is present-day bar truth boxing did forget about it boxing's here it's always been here and this is just an example of a terrific terrific sporting event same with having his best round in three or four Austin continues to make the mistake of coming to the kill zone without flowing he didn't have to pay that time but he will and he does his arms are slowed down considerably ostomies one of those flurries in the corner we haven't had one in this round I'll say this looks to be like Mayweather he's got his second wind now yeah and for fer Oscar De La Hoya about to summon something up these last couple rounds you don't want to have that wilting faith as you go into the scorecards you don't know how to get momentum Dave you notice eventing lost his legs is separating more true than then Dechaine said he wanted to keep his legs closer together but his legs at far apart you see what's happening he can't reach him with his legs apart he's tired too had some anyway the round that's Weiss his feet at far apart now let's see if they get him to tighten up I'd like to listen to Freddie and here he is in saying [Applause] 96 94 unofficially with two rounds really just lost the call it could be dead even right now this fight is closed [Applause] are you beating me wrong human credit for coming forward he no she supported me with an elegant nice Jones look at this Devi and Floyd Mayweather landing good shots perfect big shot nice power he had the definitive blows in that last round well they go down and my scoresheet oscar has got to win one of these two rounds to win the fight he's got to win one of the two of them otherwise I get a dead draw with the provider that for Nate were very close that was short for De La Hoya and then you're into that split phenomenon with body shot by Floyd Ausmus see the legs are wide apart again he's not driving up the back Floyd he's entering the kill zone without trunk make it a lot of what I called tired mind the states and frankly the right hand every time he doesn't he will get bright no angles straight in and not throwing perfect tailor-made ricotta budgeted speed this is vintage vintage snails Boyd Mayweather and this is what happened when Oscar De La Hoya slowed down and mayor that gets root to operate we Hagen probably toys with a little bit when things are going his way now his Bocas more strategic its back defensive and it's setting up his offense and Mayweather spells weakness in delahoy there is weakness Oscar's legs are very loose very looser than me a bit heavy in the thigh he doesn't have a good bounce in his feet his heels are heavy heavy punch he's trying to hunt him down makes the mistake again of entering the kill zone lit up fry and he plays again and he will continue to pay every time he made system safe which is many many more times he's making a mistake in this round in the last round then he did the previous rounds of the fight again not throwing coming in he's going to pay but Mayweather is making him pay more and more with this the right hand has found a spot for he's [ __ ] gonna hurl his best shots here as well many of his main level sorry Dave at that time he get that flurry going but no accuracy with it that's fatigue Oscar's gonna suck it up this is too close to call right now so coid may was out boss mutant boxing him in the 10th and certainly here in the 11th round with a minute to go must his second win right now I'll tell you that see his legs he really loosened the knees lieutenant captain the reason again for separators gotta have that back foot up close they can string muffled just getting punched out about it a better boxer forget this is one of the best boxes in the history of the sport and look at the foot movement here by Mayweather back and forth as he gets delahoy to miss him and they set up shop and Floyd Mayweather has made 10 and 11 look very easy well it's been a head boxing clinic against the the most fun to fight at not huggably the most popular part of the world [Music] as the belt how about this going to the 12th round one point separates the two that was me when his round and remember what Dave said round eight around forth too close to call I gave both of them to De La Hoya so it's hypothetically maybe when he's in front of this fight yeah smart laughter final round touch drugs when you come out I have it 105 104 meaning if many way that wins you last round it's a draw if Oscar wins esteem a win the [ __ ] but again the two rounds of David Isaac made a note of you are in round eight too close to call Tommy test merican we're done haven't even run so he'll go one way the other as far as touch campers concerned and Jerry Roth they won't score even round a little bit more nervousness on the face of the Milly de la hoya as she seen the moment the boys nothing's between the two who wants it the most who's in the best shape it's all come down to this the Colonel buck showed and a fun couple us with Anna Hoya they were look at this the battle is on us to throw as hard as he can Floyd ties him up how dozen nails and with body shots Oscar sets up in front now he's not making a mistake Dave he's throwing coming in like 10 jism as he turns away by trying to set him up for the right hand bang over here though as the jab white is extraordinary in his hand speed now he ties up Boston did he Dennis lets him know he doesn't want to interfere in this fight doing a great job referee Mayweather hit a different gear in round 10 and he has stepped up on Galileo trying to summon some magic missing with the same shots that were landing earlier just because of the split-second timing of punching a guy later in the fight when your arms a little bit more tired while he's fatigued for sure and the other guy is so shot Jim countering him Oscar trying to do what he can to ride shots he's not doing anything to the head he hasn't really loaded up a right hand shot to the head he's trying to concentrate with the bunny lining up the right hand now that caught him but it didn't quite kitchen just grazed the jaw a Floyd Mayweather as Austin made a mistake again then the kill zone didn't garland if he does not win this fight Oscar De La Hoya will have to look back he hit a stamina wall round round ten yeah Roxanne an 11-2 record graphs of Floyd there's a minute to go in this run I think it's still up for grabs I think thrown is our boxing 1000 a man hitting with heavier blows trying to wall up his shot he's given it everything he's done look at this guy Mayweather he reminds me of ollie in one way he loves the stage did he rise to the occasion you bet he did was the stage too big no this is a tremendous performance by two tremendous athletes look at that ahoy to finish strong [Music] a woman Oscar tries to lean on at 30 seconds to go to history will flog remained undefeated there was a weakness of the legs and it was felt all throughout this building yeah everyone to get hit but he didn't sneaky right hand point you to get this round I got it a draw how do you like it how do you like time anyone who still go on it welcome standing at cheering it was pretty it was intense I got a 1 in 14 114 I got a little draw I bought the same with the proviso 40 and the split talks like that so if this is one turning away no argument yes Floyd Mayweather is a hard guy to like if you don't know him know him he's beautiful if you don't know him and I don't know how well the judge is billing Tommy tears marriage from out of town maybe on the cross rounds he leaves the De La Hoya if he does then Alinea wants a job if he doesn't make other wins at 10 11 to 12 within a family the fort beautiful that's a big stretch of ranks for him the first round he got but don't forget Delaware got 7 8 9 right and it was dead even after 6 I mean this is extraordinary Hey nothing was settled it nothing was settle in my mind I mean did you see the guy beat up here was anybody down anybody hurt anybody visibly shaken Austin's never really won a grouse decision except for the felix term fight and many people thought he lost that fight so right that's the only close decision he's won but a lot of that is because he wilted he did he did but the employed do enough in the early rounds remember that round he took off yep remember we said it could be a big mistake we're gonna find out yeah that round that foreign aid that went delahoy his way we're very close we didn't really have many close Bay where the rounds for him so there you go there's the scenario for this fight this could be one way or the other a split decision or a draw it's just too close to call I got it a draw 114 114 day are you in the draw area I'm in the door area with a biased leaning toward Mayweather knowing that I gave too close to the hole yeah yeah okay I agree with that so Floyd may have wanted I don't think Oscar has wanted but I think it could be a draw if anyone has wanted because we gave those two close rounds at least I did in my story to Oscar so maybe I was sucked in let's listen to the scorecards Tommy Kaz Merrick scores the belt 115-113 De La Hoya Chuck Chapas cause the bell 116-112 mayweather Jerry Roth scores the bout 115-113 to the winner by split decision and new [Applause] [Music] pretty boy my split decision there was that close Tommy test marriage head at the favorite De La Hoya 115-113 Jerry Roth hadn't been favored 115-113 of Floyd Mayweather and ChaCha by a couple of rounds 916 112 in favor of Mayweather win a bi-state decision and remains undefeated a brilliant brilliant fight I'd like to see it again hope they do put it up there again Floyd Mayweather said under no conditions what he have it but they gave me a phony I don't know how to put into this fight to get ready because he want to make that sacrifice again but you know what he faded at the end of this fighting did not put himself in a good arguing position with the judges he put brilliantly to the middle rounds with ten eleven to twelve he did he hit him put up his best fight me what about it well when you get a split decision when we scored in a draw we're pretty much on the money yeah especially when you get it 115-113 NATO they were talking about the bias the one round yeah when we had the right go away yeah that's right in that one round have we started that way we would have the other way and listen I think that call was fair in terms of the scoring it's the best you can do when you have other things to do besides score remember the I go along I think Tommy Kasim Eric is one of the very best judges in the world but he can't fault a GMP or Roth because they're also excellent judges and it was one of those fights where accumulation of punches are the heavy punches obviously Tommy like the heavy punches Larry Merchant is with Floyd Mayweather am I going to drop in on the HBO in the United States interview the fans want it I told the fair this won't get a good fight so we gave him a good fight tonight thank God for this victory mighty team Mayweather alhambra lemon elevate we got the best team in the world the best trainer well they're only watching maybe well the pop only you were in the ring was he better more active the new thought he could be if you check the proclivity if you check the person at our purse to my outbox it it was easy work like I told you guys a zombie he was ruffian stuff he's above the fight you know 10-time world champion and six of the wait list he pulled us up but he couldn't be the best pretty boy floyd tonight so why was it a split decision you think it was going to be a promotions you know how it is when we fighting against older boy promotions anything can happen but you know only the strong survive we didn't tonight man [Music] what what did you do specifically to avoid getting hit i just say his left hook oh I seen these shots coming you know he only unfortunately locked up to make it look like he was doing some but like I said I stayed on on outside all night box tomato missed shots that's what you call a masterpiece a boxing and he's brought you know he one of the best fighters in our era and I showed you rapper due to one of the best fighters in our air we've been saying for months that this was going to be a massacre why wasn't the world wait to seed the Golden Boy person pretty boy and doesn't we gave him tonight how old thanks to my father no matter what nobody say he's a hell of a trainer he's a great guy Roger made with a teammate whether we did it tonight man just blessed from God and God don't make mistakes yes you've said you've said that you would retire after this fight is that still your position oh yeah I'm still retiring that to this fight I proved myself in the sport six-time world champion five different weight classes they said I couldn't do it I weigh 150 yesterday Kevin's in a fight today wearing 148 but we mark 150 you seem to walk away people junior middleweight today there are so many good potential opponents out there for you in the welterweight division photo Mosely Williams Mart others why would you hang them up now when you're in your prime and you've won the biggest fight of your life we're gonna have nothing else to prove I've made a ton of money in the sport these years are valuable to my children I'm moving on to bigger and better things I'm happy no matter what nobody say God don't make mistakes that's why I'm six-time world champion and 65 different way class I'm truly truly blessed and I didn't do it all by myself I know I had a great team Al Hamra Linda Ellerbee my father Roger I'll give everybody credit who deserves credit none of them landing the punches that you did though congratulations thank you perfect fight did you think you won I felt I landed the hard punches but the crisper punches every time I would hit him it would have hurt him and I was pressing the fight so I mean you got to beat the champion decisively and I was just pressed if I didn't press the fight there would be no fight so you thought that it was style as well as substance that should have given you the fight but going into the late rounds did you think you had to stop him no as a champion I wanted to stop him and you know you went to the fans you were to the crowd you owe it to yourself to just push yourself more so that's why I just try to close the show you know to give everybody the money's worth immanuel Stewart and and others were wondering why you abandon your jab at times which when you throw it well was your most effective punch right I for some reason it uh it wasn't the night of the jab for some reason I don't know and every time I would throw it it would it would snap his head back and I would hurt him I could see his nose bleeding just with the jab alone but for some reason it's just one of those nights do you feel even though you're disappointed that you didn't get the decision that you gave a very good account of you set yourself better than a lot of people might have thought right exactly I mean obviously everybody counted me out against I mean a the pound for pound champion of the world who I'm 34 he's younger than me he's he's fast but you know I told everybody don't be surprised at my speed is a little you know it's gonna offset him too and and it did I mean I I hurt him with a few punches that he I know he felt then looked into the future for us do you feel you perform well enough that there really is no reason you should retire from the point of view of your ability to fight whatever the other factors are in your decision well yes I gotta go back go back to the drawing board watch the fight and see how my movements were see how my timing was to see how my body feels just analyze the whole situation and then the other side but I mean obviously this is the game I love this is a fight game that brought me here so the two things you said here about how much you love boxing and you're gonna go look at the tape even though you know in your heart you fought a good fight suggests that it ain't over yet well I mean my suggestion is that we'll have to wait and see I said that before the fight win or lose I have to analyze the whole situation they know another side I'm gonna be very smart about this thanks for a terrific fight thank you you
