out on the course what a way to start this thing I would love to be at the top of this pipe ready to drop in when you see your hero Kelly Clark hang up the boots and say hey here's the torch these riders up top they're gonna carry it to new heights whoo let's go Brandon well she's absolutely passed the torch to the one the only Chloe Kim who is absolutely trailblazing this pipe let's watch her run that got her gold last year Chloe Kim if she wants that gold medal she's got to do it right here [Applause] Chloe was just 17 at the time we weren't sure where else she could go from there and then we saw perhaps the greatest pipe run and women's snowboard history now Chloe Kim that is a favorite mark my words but also take a look at number six Maddie Mastro she's been working on a double Crippler and you heard Kelly Clark her favorite moment was a 1080 now we've got doubles and we're probably gonna see a double 1080 from Chloe Kim so we're set to go our first rider to drop in nineteen-year-old senate Amida making her second x-games appearance she finished seventh in the pipe last year now last year was a three run final as it is this year Santa Tomita she fell on all three of those runs so she gets almost a full pool almost all the way in this frontside 900 that's her big exclamation point very very salsa put back down going back side 540 to follow that up so she's a left foot forward regular and snowboard terminology they're taking a switch landing regular cap seven into a frontside 540 final hit there Brandon yeah obviously look to have a full pool at a much better open to a run than any of the attempts as you said we saw from last year so I think at this point for Senate it's just good for her to get her feet under her get that solid run build up the confidence on the world's biggest snowboarding stage now to improve in runs 2 & 3 she needs to keep the amplitude that she showed us on that front side 900 right at the top she started to lose speed as she went down the pipe the judges want to see you go big do technical tricks and keep that amplitude go big and keep that amplitude are the exact same thing if you can dodge a wrench you can dodge a ball it's not Gbagbo dose we're coming in at a 55 she look to improve upon that on number 2 we move on Corina Matsumoto five years old making her X Games debut she's had some impressive contests finishes over the last year though right well her biggest role model is Kazu Coco boo if you don't know that name won't go on YouTube go on the Transworld Snowboarding website and watch his video Karla Kazu if you have a role model like that well you're probably gonna ride the pike very good and right powdered in Japan very good and that's what hirato Matsumoto does frontside nine backside 540 so two of our eight riders have started their run the exact same way Matsumoto anything solid picking up the amplitude are trying to keep it up rather put the entire to this run here and she salutes the Frau that is a full pull as well so two riders down to rider staying on their feet I think Matsumoto will take over that number one spot from Tomita I would agree with that and again this is her X Games debut it's tough to drop in in any contest let alone the X Games let alone the second rider to drop in for the very first time in your career let alone following Kelly Clark Street eyerman announcement I mean you're trying to focus on your round you see something like that it's hard are not to lose a little bit of focus oh no doubt about it nerves already and play for so many of these riders and then your soul needs to watch someone who's been an icon for everyone in snowboarding announced her farewell her all Castille a making her six X Games appearance a lot of top-five finishes here in Aspen but she's never been able to get on the podium aircraft that may change with up from coach Benny bright older brother of poorab Wright who has become a household name in the halfpipe here at X Games so she's got great coaching she's got great visualization and she put it bam we talked so much about Chloe Kim she actually Kim at a u.s. Grand Prix last year at Snowmass that's the thing not many people can make that claim that is a huge app you can actually count on one hand I believe even only a couple of fingers I need a lot of fingers to count nice way to start the road boosting into a backside 540 rate footboard is a natural way of riding frontside 720 backing it with the cab 720 hanging on to it here by far our most dynamic run thus far and a frontside 9 to cap things off for the Spaniard a great opener for the 29 year old from Barcelona in case you're wondering yes she is the lone Spanish rider in the field here tonight top spot thirdly sixty four point three three it is my estimation that girl cassoulet will blow that score out of the water kept the amplitude up throughout 900 right at the end it's gonna be a big score benchmark if you will an 80 very strong for cassoulet as she takes over the top spot we're just getting started here at the so5 women's snowboard super 5 more from Aspen after this [Music] [Applause] X Games Aspen has brought you by sofa get your money right [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] welcome back to the so5 women's snowboard superpipe but want to remind you fans that after this it's x-games extra get on youtube.com slash ax games you'll see Jack met Ronnie there you'll see Craig McMorris out there I'll be there make sure you say hi common hey what's up we're in the middle of run one here at the so fire weaving snow for SuperPi you're all castellón leading the way with that 80 but it is still early next to drop in shoot on side now Brandon you mentioned our current leader the Spaniard with the score of the a B how did she get that she went massive she had so much amplitude shook dong sigh we're about to see she loves amplitude and she loves big scores she's a history maker the first Chinese athlete to medal at the xpd she did it when she got bronze it has been back in 26 just trying a big old frontside 900 right off the top trying to set the tone for her run now remember folks this is a three-run final the entirety this eight women field will get to descend this halfpipe three times they are judged out of 100 for overall impression on how well they ride this pipe let's take a look another look at this 900 that took down jus tongsai not quite getting the grab on that frontside 900 and I don't think that put her in the right position to land it she's gonna throw that water way and as I mentioned in the end two more runs the Chinese snowboard crew is full of so much talent let's learn about one of those riders Jo Lou in the Pacific Oh discover more athlete profile [Music] I skin feels like very important because every year that gave me the big competitions personal work every time one here I just want to you know show my best and then he enjoyed the games front side seven to cap things off from shy you after all in pace that I decided to figure out like something new you my tricks and then I like sweet so I've been doing a lot of switch method and some of Clips I never did that before I have so much fun in my sport I want to share other people like snowboard I want them to feel the energy from me that's my goal like here's how fly the draw every day shailu making her fourth x-games appearance yet to find the podium was oh so close her rookie year in 2016 when she took fourth place but always so competitive in this format and the Chinese they always bring that out with - let's see if Xiao Yue will bring that as well now regular footed rider starting her run off with a switch method I cannot describe how difficult that is into the cab nine hanging off to her perky frontside nine she's got me on switch day but she's got Aston going absolutely bananas for her on this run switch air to fakie to end things off so a very solid run there from John Liu and I really I really could not speak how difficult it is to start your run with a switch method here's a look at that frontside 9 not getting the grab on that but I like her approach she knew she didn't have enough for a patient with the grab so he has to fight it around putting that one down but that's a solid full hold will it could test with our ad castellón currently in first place 52 point three three but that's okay that's why we get three attempts here in the final Chloe Kim is not only dominant on a board but a role model for all the kids here now Chloe discusses the x-games shred hate campaign I was young and people would say the meanest things to me it's really hard to be happy when someone's saying such cruel things but when you learn to love yourself I think it's a lot easier to take it because at the end of the day you know you better than anyone else live your best life and after a while it will make you stronger and it will make things easier together let's stop bullying choose kindness and shred hate MLB ESPN X Games are teaming up to shred hate learn more at shred hate org [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] hi I'm Maddy Mastro I'm from Southern California and I ride snowboard halfpipe for me growing up riding halfpipe I was just always addicted to like flow like creativity and the adrenaline of it the feeling is just kind of undescribable my favorite trick and the best feeling I get from the trick is a front five those the first trick I learned and still to this day it's my favorite it's most definitely not the hardest trick technically but it's a much slower rotation and it's just easier to slow it down and really poke your grabs out and put some style on it I want people to see something that looks good and it just looks fun and that's my main goal every time I go down the pipe such a good piece can't believe that was just [Music] welcome back to X Games Aspen 2019 we're in the middle of run number one here in the South I women's snowboard superpipe Madi Mastro is next to drop in she was our bronze medalist last year crash left foot forward and how did she get that bronze medal well she put it to the ad let's hope to see a double Crippler also new spots you can tell on our helmet show I just feel like let's say you side with a new big company there's nothing there's not a better feeling it's so so gratifying and it puts you in a really good place especially right before the world's biggest action sports event she gets in the zone better than anybody here Madi Mastro dropping in for her first attempt that front confused here brando in that beautiful apple piece we just saw she mentioned frontside 540 one of her favorite tricks to do in the pipe it looks like she was almost gonna start her run off with the frontside 540 and then right at the last second almost changed her mind to take it to 720 I don't know what was going through the head right there and as you said we're waiting on that double Crippler potentially we'll have to wait another run we know what Maddy Mastro is capable what goes wrong here Christ so she does that frontside 540 grabbing stalefish so stylish and get any better net and then right there it almost looks like she went to put her tail down and she had a little bit more air than initially it is estimated anticipated estimated it's a tough one yeah we'll figure it out I'm learning so like that's so that's a throw away for Mattie Mastro hey tomorrow on ESPN we'll have the Australian Open men's championship match between number one Novak Djokovic and number two Rafa Nadal sunday 3:30 a.m. Eastern on ESPN streaming on the ESPN live app we got I got the Joker not gonna lie to ya he's six and oh and Aussie opens bold claim their safety guy you know me Safety's for number one so we move on Arielle Cole a silver medal last year she's got two in this event three bronze she's never won gold though here in the XP stage my favorite tricks that Arielle does is she's got one of the best Michael chucks to watch possibly putting that down later in the pipe but I mean she's just got a plethora a plethora of tricks Crippler great 720's and what's been amazing is the balancing act between going to college and writing professionally I mean it's a full-time job being a professional snowboarder it is a full-time job being a university student she's got two jobs okay let's play ball fred seitz hit a tee right out of the game you want to set the tone for your run to of the 1080 she's absolutely hulking Craig big Crippler there the back side and a glad to see her pop up quickly button what a run she was putting together Craig kinda caught us off guard with the magnitude of that frontside 1080 grabbing tail that trick made so famous by the great Kelly Clark I mean if you want to be on the podium nowadays you gotta have a 1080 in your running I feel like she said that and you took it from her I literally literally shits at those words quote-unquote what went wrong up there in the air for Arielle that frontside 900 just not getting the base of her snowboard down on that wall she was so heavy on her toes and I mean that's over vert you gotta be flat base when you're landing or on the next edge there we see our defending gold medalist Chloe Kim doesn't need any introduction but let's take a deeper look in the sofa being athlete profile [Music] modify that I'm like it too and then I drop in like okay so I'm doing back it what I'm riding into it it's not going to have everything I guess like the most stressful part is probably doing press it definitely got a little more crazy after the Olympics but if I went about my career thinking about what other people were gonna do then game about if I was gonna win this contest or not then I'd be so stressed out I don't even think I'd be able to compete because you can't control what everyone else is doing and I think that is the most like relaxing like stress-free way to go about things so I actually got into Princeton so I'm thinking I'm going to flee this coming fall semester Benson was actually one of my dream schools so when I got accepted I'm so excited to go I've learned so much in snowboarding not just like tricks but like life lesson a lot of things that school wouldn't be able to feature four gold medals in six x-games appearances she put down a run last year unlike anything we had ever seen before Kelly Clark said before the contest about leaving it in a good place that being the sport and the passing of the torch and it's amazing to see Kelly's dominance for 15 plus years and then so he came picked right back up r14 X Games medals Chloe with six will she add another one here tonight we will have to wait and see she has the trickery to do that rumors floating around practice she put down a frontside double cork 1080 last year how she get that gold she went back-to-back listen a little bit of Drake with those ten eighties now is she gonna add a couple off-axis dips left wait and see so right now cast left leading the way with that eighty does it change after Chloe's first drop in here tonight right foot forward boosting on hit one beat the bots that 22-foot superpipe front sights at 87 so that's where she wouldn't move that cap 1080 oh and Chloe going down remember last year she had to come from behind and win that gold medal with perhaps her most pressing win of her young X Games career we've seen her do that before it's crazy to do that once can you do that again can you come from behind and take action sports greatest title ice you know I think she's doing this I think she's just playing with us Brando very uncharacteristic though from Kelly so what Kelly Clark on the break a tough start for camp Zach's game superpipe starts six medals Chloe Kim is the only person to collect four gold medals before age 18 she's the first woman to land back-to-back 1080s will she be the first to land a double core 1080 in a super pipe contest X Games Aspen is brought to you by jeep wrangler 2019 motor trend SUV of the year and wendy's $5 giant junior bacon cheeseburger meal [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Applause] welcome back to the so five women snowboard super pipe here at X Games Aspen and ladies and gentlemen the goat just entered the booth Kelly Clark thank you so much for dropping by thanks for having me what a great night yeah what an emotional night I know everybody here at buttermilk probably was completely taken off-guard with that announcement I know it gave us chills here in the booth but now a few minutes removed from that moment how do you feel it's a pretty emotional emotional weekend for me I feel bit relieved now that it's all out there in that run I mean I just I just didn't want to fall so now that that's behind me I'm actually feeling pretty good now one quick question how did you keep the tears back cuz I was I said one I was crying pretty good with my coach up top hold it together for the run I practiced it I practiced my thank-you speech earlier today and then started crying kind of at the end when I saw my parents so I made it through the most of it that was such a moment again the most successful competitive snowboarder in history this pipe was your playground for so long a look at our standings though one run in and it's Cass LED leading the way with that 80 Kelly as we get ready to drop in Sena Tomita for run number two your thoughts so far early in the contest you know I think a lot of people had those first-run jitters and I'm really looking forward to run two and three to see what some of these women can put down I know a lot of people are looking runs coming up here so it's time for run number two here at the Sophie women's snowboard superpipe Kelly Clark joining us talked to us about the decision as we get ready to drop Oh before we do that though Kelly I believe we've got your Instagram in if it wasn't official on TV you know it's official when you gram it after 20 years the most decorated rider is officially retiring from competition and you just look at those numbers and obviously Craig and I talk about it all the time right we've got the stats and research department giving us everything but it's just so staggering when you say it right like sometimes you look back and go I know I've been competing for 20 years but that's a lot of wins yeah time goes by quick when you're having fun I guess yeah so here's Senna Tomita put down a full pool but might have left a trick out there I would say almost affordable she made it to within one hit but then opted out of that or 25 that frontside 900 Kelly what went wrong there looks like he didn't get quite the snap she wanted off that first hit she'll be looking forward to her third run to be able to clean it up and push herself a bit more mature frontside 900 we saw her and Matsumoto starting with can you speak a little bit to starting your run with possibly your biggest trick yeah I can go both ways you know some people enjoy getting their hardest trick out of the way when they drop in first to it but it also I always found it set the tone for my run when I drop in put my best trick first after that it was it was all clean plain sailing from there so here's Haruna Matsumoto who's currently sitting in second place crazy that this is now the X Games debut for the 25 year old now Matsumoto just like Tomita who we saw do that frontside 900 and run one she also has a frontside 900 on her first hit clean throughout the entirety of her run in run one but she really needs to pump up the amplitude Kelly Clark you know exactly how to do that yeah she's a great rider I think she has a front ten in there too maybe we'll see at this run frontside 900 like we saw in Run 1 into that backside 540 good save there in the flat bottom [Music] [Applause] back-to-back sevens internet frontside 540 a nice little end to her run there sixty four point three three is professed score I think she's gonna improve upon that Kelly yeah I think so that was a technical run and how about just the intimidation factor she's making her an X Games debut this is arguably the best pipe in the world you come out here for the first time under the lights that's gonna play a factor as well yeah it's always intimidating coming out but uh the pipe is so good for us riders that's that's what it comes down to you want you want a good venue you want a good halfpipe to really showcase what you can do on your snowboard well tomorrow X Games from Aspen continues on espn2 at 2:00 p.m. eastern eleven a Pacific then at 11:30 830 excuse me Eastern 5:30 Pacific on ESPN we wrap it all up with men's snowboard super pipe barley Davidson Hill Climb and Jackson strong in the boys compete in snow bike best trip all of our X Games coverage is also streaming live on the ESPN app and Craig you can watch on that app from anywhere anywhere any where Wow next to drop in our current leader with that score of 80 now I think we thought early hey really solid score might have some floatium potential I didn't think at this point run to that castle that would still be leading the way and by a large large margin right so what does she do for an encore here Kelly Clark because that was a really solid first run but she knows girls like Maddie Mastro Arielle gold and Chloe Kim have the ammo to put together a solid line she's got a deep bag of tricks she's got a back nine she's got a front nine she's got a front ten starting off with Allie Nair it's the back five-o just clipping the coping on the way in there that's that high-impact area that makes half pipe so risk we have very small small margin of error there let's see what she did here looks like she left a little bit early and it's so hard to be patient Kelly on those big front side rotations front side nine-hundred front side 1080s you want to start going and it's easy to go too soon so easy to do yeah well Kelly Clark we thank you so much for coming by the booth and sharing some time with us enjoy the rest of the night when we return more from X Games Aspen after this [Music] so here's shoe tongue side did not have the run that she was looking for on that first attempt no that's a throwaway but again I think Kelly alluded to it before the jitters and we can sit here and say well you know it's under the lights the primetime the biggest events of the year but there's denying the Kelly Clark factor as well they all got to watch their hero send-off one more time and I have to think that's in play with regard to nerves of there's so many of these Liars it's got to be on there by I think that it's all on our mind oh whoa okay and that side of the pipe continuing to give the ladies trouble pops up quickly let's take another look right now we saw castle eight take off a little early on her big frontside rotation it looks like to talk side does the same here that's why she's tagging the top of the half night so better than her first run but not enough to make some noise toward the point [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] hi everyone my name is Dominic Zimmerman swiss-born photographer and I work in Zurich Switzerland and super glad that I made it into the X Games assumed final during winter time I traveled the globe and mostly shoot snowboarding in search for the best snow my photo was taken the loft Switzerland the last spring we have the resort or pretty much depart for ourselves the most difficult part was you know from the photographer's side more from their riders side because they all had to drop in into the superpipe pretty much the same exact same time and that was like that was four at a time for them such a sick photo the x-games zoom contest is a fan vote contest celebrating the best in action sports photography you can check out all the photos on site if you're here at X Games but if you're not Craig just go to X Games comm /zu what is the winner get Brandon glad you asked a gold medal and a prize purse of $10,000 we continue on and run two of the sulphite women's snowboard superpipe Jiyoon you sitting in fourth place her best finish in this pipe fourth place what could she do to make some podium noise Craig I mean bump up that amplitude bump up that technicality a crazy-big she's actually just recently retired from the Chinese national team that's massive these national teams especially when they come from China are really the only support that you're getting so chai you leaving that tea oh ma don't disrupt training yourself is a huge groundbreaking step [Music] Shyu of course she hasn't made a podium here at ex-gays but she did earn silver at the Olympics just last year behind Cloe juice left foot forward her natural way of riding good look at a frontside 540 from home run it real inverted on that frontside 720 also pretty ecstatic to announce to X Games in China next year oh my gosh news just came through cannot wait for that also can't wait for the 69th annual Pro Bowl tomorrow at 3 p.m. Eastern noon pacific from orlando who do you like you know I'm a neighbor who I am I'm a Niners fan so you know I'm rootin for Jorge Kittel and the NFC it's gonna be on ESPN and ABC with a special spanish-language production on ESPN the portes and you can always watch it on the ESPN app from anywhere man that app has got literally everything Pro Bowl 2019 baby maddie Mastro from Wrightwood california our bronze medalist last year love the way she focuses in before each and every run mentally visualizes that attempt before she drops in I have the tiger right there but trying to replace that score from her first attempt undoubtedly she'll do it with a solid showing here she's got the tricks she's got a 1080 I've been working on a double it's all about execution and a single Crippler there so that's where she probably would put in the double dribbler but opting for just one - from site 724 that up converted 720 Hawking flip if you will and a full pull from maddy Mastro I think this is strategy hair brand and she does have a 1080 she does have a double Crippler but what she doesn't have is a solid score as of yet that will change with this run well and the reality is is this is somewhat of an uncharacteristic start to a women's super pipe final so I think at a certain point strategy has to come to play hey if I put down my solid run not even s selling my a run a be solid b-plus run I might give myself enough points to be in that podium position maybe even take over that top spot from castle n at 80 and then see what the rest of the field can do I completely agree with that point that was her be run and that is gonna put her in the podium who'da thought at the event thus far Mady master o Chloe Kim and Arielle gold are in the bottom half did not see that one coming as Maddie Mastro awaits her scores judges taking their time with this one she can only go up from here honestly good Shania Twain quote by the way I thought you'd appreciate that sixty three point three three so interesting not enough to get her into the top three she isn't striking distance sitting and forth here you see Arielle bold she's up next for her second run but first let's check out this Wendy's athlete profile [Applause] I'm Arielle gold I'm a professional halfpipe snowboarder from Steamboat Springs Colorado this year I am in my fourth year of classes at the University of Colorado Boulder going here has actually been perfect because it allows me to continue training in snowboarding I'm currently working towards my undergrad in psychology and I'm hoping to eventually go to vet school I would say that my ideals in school definitely translate over to snowboarding as well where I just want to prioritize doing the best that I can in snowboarding in particular it's important to me to always make sure I'm putting everything that I can on the line in order to succeed and that's the same way that I look at my school so snowboarding it's slightly different because there's a little bit more of a risk factor involved but it's a little bit more enjoyable than school - as soon as the semester is done I'll just be taking online classes again next spring and I'll be able to focus on just preparing for X Games in the best way possible looking forward to getting back [Applause] so Arielle gold has five X Games medals but she's never gotten to that top spot sixth place is where she sits better run one frontside 1080 right out the gates massive but she fell on a frontside nine under the 1080 much more difficult three full rotations the 900 only two and a half I really liked how she kept the amplitude throughout the entirety let's see if she starts off at ten yet again [Music] and she does that but not landing it this becomes mental warfare for an athlete you pretty much put down your entire run and fall right at the bottom in run one and run two you fall right at the top on arguably your hardest trick in the run in run three do you keep it there do you switch up your game plan this is such a tough position to be in just really uncharted territory for so much of our field Arielle gold is a podium mainstay here in Aspen and for the second straight run together these riders are putting too much pressure on themselves for their final attempts we're in the midst of run two here at our so five women's snowboard super pipe and next to drop in our defending gold medalist dare I say the best pipe snowboarder on the planet fifteen-year-old Chloe Kim the first X Games athlete serving for gold medals by age 18 she's trying to take last year's gold medal and repeat turned the o2 into the o3 if you doing it for the broski's Chloe Kim now frontside 1080 with that in her run she opted instead of a cab 1080 which got her the gold in 2018 for a cab 720 she was looking good but then fell right at the bottom me thinks she's not gonna do the same thing as running she's currently in last place outside today tab 720 yo frontside 540 they're so pulling things down into that Michael Chuck army party McTwist big McTwist at the end that's that's a gamer that's what a gamer does there's no doubt about it Chloe Kim even at 18 years old understands the nuances of competition she realizes where the flow of it is going I don't need to put out that banger run quite yet if you push me I'll do it but right now I know what I need to do to get on the top spot she knows exactly what she needs to win and she just did that their top spot 80 she gets an 84 that is a gamer that's Chloe Kim with an 84 taking over first place [Music] so Chloe Kim taking over the top spot water Elijah fans tomorrow harley-davidson Snow Hill Climb more from Aspen after this [Music] [Music] Oh can you hear me can you hear me what's gonna happen is I'm going to count down from ten when I hit three you guys get buck wild yeah I mean crazy the crazy you are the longer they will stay on you yes Jose my dad look I'm famous the lovers is gonna win a million dollar they Mark McMorris getting the gold on his third and final run will this field overtake but we can't will she walk away with it well I think that's the question we're all would ask ourselves and not only that because we've seen more often than not in certain instances the only person who's been able to beat Chloe is Chloe Chloe's done enough already to be in this top spot now certainly Maddie Mastro Arielle Cole they've got the tricks to push that number are we going to see that sort of history-making line from Chloe Kim if she doesn't have to do it I believe if she doesn't have to she won't just take a victory lap I believe she will hopefully I'm hoping and I believe that she we might toss in that double cork 1080 that everyone's been talking about [Music] so to me tasks or improving at a 16 point 3 3 [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Music] muscovite make it happen there's a look at the sold-out show that chainsmokers there is a sea of people out there Saturday night everybody out here on buttermilk doing it right there's also get above this crowd everyone's going off of the sofa I will it's nobody super play Limit snowboarding is it a great place action sports didn't agree please Chloe Kim Lana to run Kelly Clark announced your retirement we're having a blast out here we love you guys happy Saturday wherever you are let's get back to the show to see Jax having fun out there isn't he always having fun he is everywhere chainsmokers putting it down what a weekend it's been for music here at X Games the little Wayne show last night I know you were out there losers might not the chainsmokers yes we've got our own show in front of us and Chloe Kim calming correct on that second attempt taking over the lead the question now becomes who can capture what is honestly terrifying about that 84 that Chloe Kim has put up is that as her serie that's not her a run that's not her B run that is her C run Tier three for Chloe Kim here's her Ino Matsumoto sitting in that bronze medal position but back to Chloe for a moment we've said it time and time again she's at a point in her career where the only person that can beat Chloe Kim is Chloe Kim now she's already done enough to take over the top spot the question is if no one catches her and she's got a final run does she put down that history-making banger attempt that we've all been waiting we've all been waiting for a frontside 1080 double cork that has been the rumor around the x-games family I really really hope she doesn't take just a victory lap and makes history here tonight on already a groundbreaking evening matsumoto going down early and her third of three runs our second rider to drop so the rest of the field will go before Chloe Kim takes her third and final run there's names in there Madame Astro madam Astro pardon me Arielle Gold who have tricks that could probably maybe hang with that 84 or go above it if they do that Chloe Kim will really have to start swinging coming up next on SportsCenter warriors wizards recap inside Golden State's hot streak SBP on Tiger season debut shot 1-under today he's like 13 shots off the lead and he goes one-on-one with John miranne the college hoops breakout star it's all happening on ESPN and streaming live on the ESPN so Matsumoto though by the way X Games debut she's sitting in bronze medal position okay Carol Costello sitting in the silver medal spot was leading for most of the contests before Chloe Kim put down that 84 is she content with where she's sitting given that she's never earned an X Games medal where does she put her mine what can I do the best Chloe Kim right I think she's just thinking what can I do to best my 80 that was a great run from Castellon but as I said Mastro gold have yet to do their third runs and they have tricks that can really bump down that Edie Matz Emoto sitting in that bronze medal position currently with a score of 67 has got to be shaking in her snowboard boots this is a big run right now for our current silver medal position Kelly Clark like that and run - we like that and run free well if Kelly likes it barely hanging on to that 720 and another strain air in there so it goes off plan for Casa let she will have to hang on to that 80 and patiently watch the rest of our field take their third rise right foot forward backside 540 here from the Spaniard so she will hold on to her first run score certainly and second place is where she will stay shoot oxide has yet to put together a fifth place here the pipe last year a silver medal in 2017 right now she's just trying to get a solid run here Craig she's been struggling up top starting her run just a little bit of issues not many of the field putting down their big tricks but run three is always a magical thing you saw it earlier today men's and slopestyle final Mark McMorris winning the gold over three well we see the trend continue frontside nine big backside 540 functions outside in the air to fakie coming in switch frontside seven caps seven inside 720 so certainly shoe tongs best run of the night will improve upon that 27.3 3 how much is in the judges hands I believe she bumps into that bronze medal position taking it from Matsumoto score of 67 is what holds it right now this has got to be above that but they I just don't see it touching Castle let's shoot on to X Games medals in her career trying to add to that collection here in her sixth appearance in Aspen a seventy two point six six you called it partner jumping her up into the bronze medal spot that's why I get paid the big bucks no not just kidding yes it's it's fair wages if you're loving this I guarantee you you'll love X Games Minneapolis it's going down August through the 1st through the 4th excuse me tickets on sale now X games.com go get your X Games mini tales jo Liu sitting in fifth place with that 65 she's always hovered around the podium in her x-games career a fourth place finish a fifth place finish a sixth place finish she's got the style she's got the tricks Kelly Clark said so herself what can she do right here to tighten things up and maybe bump outshoot on side she essentially has to do everything the same as you punks I go big and have technicality hitting that first wall switch on the heels so so difficult to hold the edge all the way up fights over that frontside 900 and over on that frontside 720 now this is gonna be very very interesting average height by 0.4 above that 22 foot superpipe good look at that switch air but again as we saw in her previous runs it just feels like she's leaving one last trick out there crying and it's she's just leaving a couple things you know that that frontside nine if she's got a solid grab on that that changes the look of a run see that frontside this happen she does grabbing mute there that solid she needs to add a grab like that to her frontside 900 a 69.6 six puts her in a fourth but not enough to get on the podium [Music] next games Aspen is brought to you by the real cost a message from the FDA three riders left to drop in here for their final attempts in the so5 women's snowboard superpipe Madi Mastro we did not expect her to be in sixth place on her final attempts but here we are Craig crazy things are happening in the pipe Madi Mastro the center yourself and carrying a lot of smack in this first [Applause] [Music] outside 720 there on her second going down on that 30 hit Maddie Mastro that is just not the x-games we thought she was gonna ever end though especially coming off of that bronze metal performance here last year we thought she's really starting to come into her own her best days are in front of her and that's undoubtedly true but tonight the super pipe getting the best of her it just wasn't her night she's been riding so good but that's what happens that's competition it is a three run format but it's hard to run and land your best run in just three runs Oh Chloe Kim our current leader standing at the top showing some love to REO Gold who's the last rider who could potentially pump out Chloe for that top spot Arielle is sitting in last place this is our defending silver medalist there you see Kelly Clark looking on she moved quick she was just in the booth does a run at the start hangs out with us now she's at the bottom cheering everyone on what a super hero so here it is Chloe Kim our current leader our defending gold medalist watching on as Mario Cole drops in yes frontside 1080 or for this trick of her run dime but not that cabin 720 getting the better of Arielle golden and Chloe's face says it all as she earns a fifth X Games gold medal you can see how disappointed she is because she wanted to see her fellow competitor her friend Arielle mold put together her best run and she was unable to do it and with that Chloe Kim is guaranteed another gold medal which would make her 7 for 7 in her X Games appearances podium perfect that actually ties skier kaya turski 's record of seven straight matters Wow so Chloe Kim is guaranteed another gold medal is this merely a victory lap or does she try to rewrite the history books once again she's asking people so I don't know what she's she'd me like she is not above it back up top right what can you say about Chloe Kim she's done everything everything she's broke ground in this halfpipe so many times we saw him practice her attempt of frontside double cork 1080 which we have never seen does she try it she's already got the gold medal look like she's going for it frontside 720 from Chloe Kim 18 years old 7 X Games medals five of them gold simply put there is no one better in competitive snowboarding right now male or female than Chloe Kim she defends her gold medal as she rides down in the bottom your butter knife so deserving of everything she had she has worked so hard let's go down to Chloe BC Chloe Kim congratulations your fifth X Games gold medal your seventh X Games medal in seven appearances and your mentor mentor Kelly Clark retiring tonight describe what Kelly Clark has meant to you I met Kelly when I was 8 and ever since then she always took me under her wing and I could always go to her for advice and you know it's gonna be really weird not having a contest anymore but I know she's gonna congratulations seven four seven seven x-games appearances seven medals what's next Chloe you know just gonna keep competing I guess I honestly wanted to do a complete different run but I'm so bummed
