very best of the very best and I'm talking 2017 gold medalist Elena hight she wants to defend that title but you know Chloe Kim she's got those back-to-back 1080s we've never seen them at the X Games she might drop them and unseat Elena we've been talking about it for years Chloe Kim the future of snowboarding she's the now of snowboarding the overwhelming favorite to win this thing outright just an incredible career thus far and she's not yet 18 years old here's a look at our lineup for the night 8 we talked about Elena we talked about Chloe Kim how about the most decorated snowboarder of all time man or woman by the way Kelly Clark don't sleep on KC folks 14 overall medals just passed by Jamie Anderson today she has a chance to get a medal tonight and get that elusive or not that Malou civ I mean she's only lost the record for what is it four hours get that 15 X Games gold medals she doesn't feel like she's milking it and she's not we love to watch Kelly Clark ride this half way this is the greatest pipe in all the land it is pristine perfect conditions right now a 93 of X Games Aspen here's a look at our format as you saw eight riders they each get three cracks at this thing and the best single score counts 100 point scale so each run is scored out of a hundred what the judges are looking for brando is amplitude they want to see you blast above the lip they want to see technical tricks and they want to see them done well let's stop talking about it and be about it drop in our first rider here the Sophie women snow superpipe final 25 years old shailu and her third x-games appearance she's been close to getting a podium finish in 2016 she finished fourth last year fifth is twenty eighteen year number three the one that puts her over the top she was on one Craig what way to start off the pipe final here tonight take another look paying homage to Dani Davis was that switch method yes please jumping into that frontside 900 now she doesn't really get the grab but I don't think she would have got the rotation if she had tried to my goodness though what distance she traveled average height of 9.2 inches above the pipe so this is how you start off want some amplitude but unfortunately falling at the end there a thirty four point three three four joy you and the bar is officially set down well there we see Maddy Mastro get ready to drop in but before she does that let's take a look at the athletes and Wranglers with Maddy Mastro's Maddi master Oh what's up made it interesting parking job here thank you first things first let's get some music going here you're personally one of my favorite people to watch because I feel like style is very important to you it's probably my top priority like having style with everything I do so you've just made the Olympic team you're having the season of your life but you've yet to secure an X Games medal you think this year is gonna be the year fingers crossed let's see growing up you're always watching X Games so being able to get a medal here is definitely like fulfilling a lifetime childhood dream are you still able to have fun or is it become a job for you well yes of course snowboarding is my job but I don't really see it that way it's definitely a place to have fun and go be free and explore the mountain and then go on these crazy adventures alright Maddie we have arrived best of luck to you this thank you you ever need a ride you know who to call [Music] Maddie Mastro has had an insane 2017-2018 winter season she's podium that all but one event it just feels like she's due to get her first X Games medal that one event Rando that she didn't podium guess where she feels that's not a bad season if your worst finish in the pipe is fourth I was very concerned at the way Jack met Ronnie was driving that Jeep by the way didn't seem like he was paying a lot of attention truly nonchalant beautiful vehicle nonetheless in agreement so here's Maddie getting ready to drop in for her first run laser focus from the 17 year old at the Wrightwood California make that very very apparent to everyone watching technicality is important if you don't look good doing these tricks there's no point in even doing it style is number one in snowboarding couldn't agree with you more we'll see what the judges thought of this one for Maddie though a strong first run again each of the riders getting three attempts here you put pressure on yourself if you can't land one so to be able to come right out the gate shake the nerves off a little bit build the confidence this is a great strategy and I think a really strong first one for that I couldn't agree with you more Brando it's a full pull you get your score on the board this is a base and she can build on nikka can Pina put the dot for Maddie Mastro ass all at first run score and there's Arielle gold 21 years old it's hard work making her eight X Games appearance the Breckenridge native got a silver and three bronze in this event never winning gold how does that change here tonight well Oreo yes a great first hit in practice we saw her try to front and that very first hit usually that's where you're going the biggest as much air for that can't stress that nut the best airs we've seen out of the pipe so far tonight method to cap things off average right of nine point six but let's take a look at that first hit right here frontside 900 in practice she was going for a front sight and I didn't see her put it down so I think that was strategy they're stepping back at net frontside 900 with a master put one down three run format put one down then start checking on the last two so again a solid first run and again we're seeing just strategy play out veterans Maddy Mastro it wasn't her first go-around obviously Arielle gold in x-games appears these ladies know this contest format so well they know exactly what they need to do and when they need to do it they also know at the bottom of the lineup there's some big names Brandon eighty two point six six and gold takes over the top spot we're halfway through here in the certified women's snowboard super by five welcome back to night three of X Games Aspen there you see some of those modified street rods snow bikes custom-built for X Games Aspen we're gonna see a brand new event tomorrow night the harley-davidson Snow Hill Climb hey Brandon who has a call on that as a matter of fact I do Craig [Applause] I did not expect to see some of the fans that I'm seeing out a buttermilk this evening everybody's excited for X Games everybody's catching the buck here Brenda overripe for that one tomorrow night the harley-davidson Snow Hill Climb were also hyped for this event were right in the midst of the so phi women's snowboard super pipe vinyl Arielle gold currently in the lead here at run number one with that eighty two point six six she dropped right before he went to a commercial break so we move on to Senate amita out of Japan she was our first alternate out here taking the place of Hannah Teter that's right Sena we just don't know that much about her she's very very new I'd like to just take a little bit and wish Hannah Teter a happy birthday she's not competing out here but happy birthday to Hannah Teter but right now it's Senate Amita let's see what sin is all about here in her X Games debut Japanese no.1 for amplitude and Senate she's no different front side santé trying to follow suit this switch 720 we lost her and she lost her edge young japanese rider not getting that full pull she's looking for zen is a member of the 2018 Japanese Olympic team so it's great to see her out here tonight if you're just joining us here in the final we've got eight riders each getting three attempts out here on this course so try and come out I like the base of her board though it says smooth trying to emulate that manifested a twenty six point six six percent good enough for fourth place want to remind you guys watching at five and yours that prep snack today and Clark herself brought two women's snowboard super just such an innovator such a pioneer of the sport and still a threat to win every competition she enters hit clip your end of the method eight feet and change above the lip that's gonna be I think that's gonna take out Arielle gold for sure I believe we will have a new leader of the clubhouse a familiar spot for Kelly Clark take another look love that first hit can't say it enough style most important and on that tuck knee I really like Kelly Clark style backside 540 get nerd all the way around holding the grab their and then the front side 1080 following that Ashley Clark deserves so much respect throw some respect on them she's throw she's won this event seven times the last time coming though in in her progression and also just you know in her love for snowboarding 17 and she's the best she loves it you know which is the most important she has fun yes pn2 magazine that's everywhere I always see the magazine when I'm checking out of the supermarket after grocery shopping so I think seeing my face is gonna be very odd feel like a lot of the time these magazine shoots are a little all over the place but I had so much fun with this one it was kind of crazy getting Hartness and having like three people pull me up into the air with my snowboard on it was a really fun time and I love the x-games I feel like we see all the progression happening here and a lot of fun memories so I'm always excited to come back and I'm so excited to see what happened [Music] there's no getting around it Craig there's talent and then there's Chloe Kim I mean she's a prodigy and I mean that every point of that word 17 years old so Dominic the favorite every time she enters a contest she's won this event outright three times can you imagine four gold medals before you turn 18 that's what's at stake here I envy her talent but what I don't envy is the amount of pressure right imagine being under 18 and every time you drop in you're expected to win that's gnarly and so is that frontside 1080 does she drunk back-to-back tens no she keeps it not on that first one front ten seven nine slide down that McTwist inverted five Chloe Kim that's a heater that's a heater Brandi there's no doubt about it we know what she's capable of doing just a day at the office she makes it look so easy she's got that 1080 so dialed what she doesn't have dialed is this cab and a B she has done that but she has not done that at the x-games she will need that in my opinion if she really wants to soar above the rest of the field yeah there's no doubt there Chloe Kim after winning gold in 15 and 16 she had to settle for a bronze medal last year uncharacteristic of her we know what she's capable of all that being said I believe this run will put her into that number one spot but we got a long night ahead of us Brandon well that's what's amazing and if that is indeed the case as we await the judges score we also know what she's capable of doing nice for Chloe Kim in first place and we've also seen time and time again Craig when Chloe Kim gets ahold of that first place she locks that door there's no getting in so it became just increasingly difficult for the rest of the field of country here shoot song side 24 years old the first Chinese athlete to ever medal at an X Games when she earned a bronze back in Aspen 2016 I'm always impressed with Xu Tong and her amplitude specific [Applause] [Music] [Applause] backside 540 front side 900 waves to the crowd gets a clap down I got a say there's a theme here thus far tonight brando the 2017 we saw a lot of Falls a lot of not landed runs if you will lack of a better term I apologize but thus far run one everybody's putting it down a bronze in 2016 a silver in 2017 what is in store for Xu Tong in 2018 had a great look at that air to fakie right off the top the front sight nine that backside 540 is so important to be patient on those backside spins you want to wait till the very very top so as high as he can then it's easy peasy it's early here in the midst of run with eighty two point six six shoot Tong though takes over that spot at eighty four point six six kicking out gold and taking over their legs there we see last year's X Games gold medalist Elena hike let's catch up with her and the zel what moves me athletes profile i am elena height i am 28 years old I have been snowboarding professionally for 15 years now staying injury free for me is a big part of snowboarding and and being healthy and I take my yoga mat everywhere yoga has given me the flexibility and the strength within my season to really combat injuries when I started doing yoga I really found that having that practice on the road was so helpful in keeping my body just flexible and in alignment and and keeping my mind healthy and focused I get nervous at the top of every single event no matter what I have butterflies and I get shaky legs and you'd think that after 15 years it wouldn't be some nerve wracking but the breathing techniques and just being able to Center myself before I drop in it's something I learned you know sitting at home meditating and doing yoga and and it's definitely helped me in my snowboarding correct you and I are both yoga guys so we understand the value of what that brings and it certainly did for Elena last year in her 13th X Games appearance she finally gets that first gold medal what a moment for her and her snowboarding career it's simple math you put in the love you put in the work and you keep trying that will get you a gold medal Elena hight nobody works harder than her I had the pleasure of working out with her in Southern California at the bee project she's a beast Lelaina height dropping in for her first run married ten frontside 720 she tried to grab Japan what Japan is is when you grab around the outside of the front knee with your front hand and really we get back Ali's backside rodeo for the fans that's a trick the lane a height was made very famous in this year pipe missing the break on that backside nine unfortunate there and what's that happens it's tough you know you're kind of scrambling that first is so crucial if you can put that down solid you get the flow going you're in it so our defending gold medalist is gonna have to improve upon that on her second run near the so five women's snowboard super pipe final method man red man right around the corner you don't want to miss that here at X Games Aspen and if you're just joining us we're right in the middle of the zone five women snowboard super pipe final Brandon Graham alongside my good friend Greg McMorris in the booth orbán Harris out on the course there's a look at first second and third right now again we're just one run in they're going to get two more attempts on this course but it's 17 year-old Chloe Kim with the commanding lead Chloe Kim followed closely by Casey Kelly Clark and the Chinese shoe palm shy well it's been a great event thus far we got to see Chloe camp do what Chloe Kim does taking over the overall D but methinks we're gonna have a battle on her hand see how well Kelly Clark put down her first run can't forget about Elena hike to the defending gold medalist we can't stress that enough 13 X Games appearances before she gets that gold she wants to hang on to it Brandon yeah this is just such a terrific barometer of where these ladies riding is back as we get towards the end of the season we're obviously just a few weeks away from the Olympics we expect almost all of these athletes competing here tonight out there on that stage as well but right now it's all about an X Games gold medal here jaya loo dropping in for her second attempt she's sitting in sixth place I hope Dani Davis is watching this because this switch method right here is nice Barry now it's one thing to do technical difficult awkward tricks and that is another thing to do attendant about the pipe Jehu is a student of stable she loves it and I love to watch her snowboard front side seven to cap things off both pool full pool pardon me from shy you she has score of thirty four point three three in her first run Brando I think this one's gonna be a little bit higher I do too she cleans some things up and again just the technicality the style the confidence that she's riding with present the grab their distance she traveled she's definitely gonna replace that thirty four point three three we'll see what the judges think though I like that switch method I really want to see guy you grab that front side now that will just bump her score up even more the judges want to see you do those tricks but you got to get the grab you got to make it look good you got a show make it look like it's easy it's not judges takin their time on this one that is still watch a replays of the method and Redman show did you like out the top once and they just said it's cold out here Sachs nothing but facts out here so if you're just joining us we kicking off run number two here the sofa women's snowboard super pipe final shailu with a commanding eighty three point six six putting her in the fourth place she moves up a couple spots not enough to judge stop me out of that bronze medal position here is Madi Mastro there you see her best finish came at X Games Oslo we were saying it all night it just feels like this is the year that Maddie puts it together and gets on the podium she has her hands above Says we're more centers her focus really gets into it tries to be as presentation and it's helping her this year [Applause] by building soap bite Maddy had already landed a rug very similar to this right upside down even bigger Crippler than her first run so essentially she's doing the same run just trying to clean it out [Applause] so we take another look at rut number two formatting nostril big hit off the top front side nine hundred and the grab all the way around outside the knee on that front side seven twenty here's that talk and flip getting right upside down take an off switch landing regular like this Crippler to that trick is so difficult it's so easy to push away from that you have to be so patient we ride up and come straight down and eighty one point six six so she increases from run number one but not enough to move up the leaderboard Sunday on ESPN will have the Australian Open men's championship match between number two Roger Federer and number six Marin Cilic a rematch of last year's Wimbledon final where Cilic was brought to you teeters what an event that was 3:30 a.m. Eastern 12:30 Pacific and remember that you can always stream this match live on the ESPN app should be noted Federer eight and one by the way it gets children so if I was a betting man which you're not no I would go with kill it but if I were giving you odds so here's our do gold she's got four career X Games medals a silver and three bronze that goal just eludes her now we got to watch this first hit Brando in practice she was trying to do a front ten on this very first hit on her first run in competitions she pulled back went with the front side nine she got in the front side nine she got the rest of her run got a score of eighty two point six six but she has then since bunk down she needs the ten eighty if she wants to hang with the big dogs last time we saw her on the podium here in Aspen it was in 2016 frontside 1080 lacking a little degree on rotation but she plays it cool blur method that person used to gain some speed gains magnitude here for this front nine puts the hands down then another stray there so let's talk about good let's talk about that let's start with the good frontside 1080 off the top front side nine hundred as well a little bit further down the pipe here's that front ten eighty I was talking about see how our under rotated she was she had to really slip it around and then here's the front sight nine hundred so she has two big hammers yes but she has two stray tears in her run I don't think that this last hit was supposed to be a straighter but the front side nine was a little dirty if you will so she can't do anything about it so gold putting up a sixty one point three three fifth place is where she will stay it's the Chloe Kim show tonight here in the pipe that x-games and how about shoot on with that eighty four point six six dropping into third place and there we see Kelly Clark who has 14 X Games medals let's hear from her in the sofa beam series growing up in school I had a pretty tough time I found out I was dyslexic when I was in the seventh grade you know when I saw that I was pretty good at snowboarding it kind of gave me some hope and something to pursue that I was good at you know I made a deal with my dad I could defer from college for one year and kind of proved to him that I could make snowboarding a career you know here's this little girl who rumor is you know works in her parents pizzeria and she rode with a sense of purpose that you just hadn't seen really in anyone at that time I don't believe that I ever operated with the idea that there was a feeling for me and so I just went full steam ahead anything is possible Kelly Clark helping us to continue to make history here at Winter X Games what a remarkable journey for Kelly I feel like I'm learning new things about her each and every year here she is at 34 years old and her 21st ex-navy parents and she's as good as she's ever been I love that pole she rides with a purpose and she still rides with the purpose every time she drops in there's intensity to the punch riding and there it is - that is 11 feet above this super vibrant sky walking above the pie Oh frontside 1080 lewd that check there from Kelly Clark but thank gosh she got her board around and took it there first let's take another look right out the gate one of my favorite first hits I love shylu's switch method and I love Kelly Clark's Hockney but this is that frontside 1080 that took her down front sight any trying to squeak the grab in there but look right there her snowboard hits that blue paint we call that the coping and that's on very dangerous so important in this particular content well a 1080 is three full rotations brought to the superpipe by Kelly Clark we saw in that feature when she put it down for the first time ever everybody came out and guess who's actually approved upon the 1080 well Chloe Kim that's a great low graphic there Casey versus CK the ultimate rivalry so much respect between these two Chloe of course idolizing Kelly Clark she's half of her age and there you see the appearances there you see the gold medals and the career wins 78 career wins the most the most decorated competitive snowboarder in history male or female is Kelly Clark and Chloe can't follow in her footsteps a bronze medal last year really uncharacteristic given the trajectory of her career she's the favorite every single time she straps in she's in first place what could she do to up the ante and improve upon that night she could add that captain ad we want to see that cat today please Chloe [Music] thank you well at least we know she's got the broadcast in her chicken here yeah she got IFB in there too hey Chloe good job way to try that cat ten we take another look front sight and grabbing tail boosting out landing pretty solid there she could clean that up and once she cleans that up Brandon once she gets a more solid landing this kapten will be much easier she needs a little bit more attitude to get that thing her out here's a great look at it she's never not metal in her X Games career she's five for five with three holes that's a great step at ninety we'll beat four point six six love this first hit from shoot on air to fakie grab and melon she just slips out I'm just gonna say crate you don't talk so much about Chloe and Kelly at rightfully so yes because they really are the two best in this sport and you don't sleep on her why well she's got a very nice cap seven she's got a very nice air to fakie but this frontside 900 right here just give her a little bit of trouble landing on it gives little land on that flat face get on the next walls edge as soon as possible that way you think areas much feature at the bottom of that halfpipe and boost so shoe talk will hold on to her first rock score and here comes our defending gold medalist Elena hight did not have a full pool on her first attempt she could only go up from here Craig literally she's an eighth place yeah I'm not very good at math but I do know that it'd be no math if there's eight riders and you're an eighth you can really only go if I love it and Elena hike she's gonna be going up I mean she's got a backside nine she's got a frontside nine he's got an alley-oop backside Rodeo she's got some big tricks she just needs to put him down again if you're just joining us it's the soap by women's snowboard super pipe final and we're just closing out run two or three start things off with that backside and clean Leyna front sight 720 again that was the trick she fell on in her first run I want to see a little bit more aggression coming into that frontside 720 she's landing that backside nine solid but kind of putting on a little chat I want to see her drive into the wall go up get that rotation and come down she's such an innovator of course the first woman to land a double cork the first female to land at 900 in a competition she's so accomplished trying to defend that gold medal we'll wait for one to score but certainly not what she's looking for wanna remind you fans at home we've got men's super pipe tomorrow night but also a brand new one the harley-davidson Snow Hill Climb Sunday night on ESPN what a way to end things out here at X Games Aspen Chloe Kim more of the same still leading the way with that 90 overall so here's xiao lu dropping in for third and final attempt she's sitting in fourth place had a very strong second run Craig maybe that bronze metal spot you know she's very very close I want to see her bump up the amplitude and I just don't know enough about use bag of tricks every time on that hit she was covering so much ground she need a passport distance traveled there and it gets the best of her on her third and final attempt ChaCha bomber because she was showing such promise building off that second attempt goes so far down the pipe on that 900 the one thing I can say she takes off a little bit early you want to be as patient as you can go all the way up then initiate that rotation Jai you not doing that when you take off early well you come very close to the perfect twenty one point six six welcome back to the soap by women's snowboard superpipe final here on night 3 of X Games Aspen 220 and it's Chloe Kim leading the way very first run Kelly Clark right behind her with that 88 point six six as we're getting ready we'll run number three Pro Kelly Clark put down her run she's got a lot to clean up I think that could catch that 90 but it's gonna be tough so here's Maddie Mastro not that she's been looking for she's actually put together two pretty solid runs with an 80 and then upped it just lightly clean things up to 81 but the judges need to see something more from her another trick to get her to cash that pony Maddie's worst finish at a contest this year so she's got momentum she's got a 1080 are you kidding me into the parking I did not know that fatty manager can do it today learning something and I hope you hooked at home are two she could keep this thing up 540 things I grab and she's ecstatic we're ecstatic now you folks at home were ecstatic Duke because those fans are they're losing their minds here at Buttermilk Mountain dare I say the best pipe run we've ever seen conclusively yes truth or false are true and because of this this frontside 1080 why didn't you tell us about the ten Maddie she was keeping the secrets Hakan flip there's a great look at the Crippler right there in that secret red bottom so Maddie Mastro sitting in six and I said just moments ago she needs a trick something for the judges to really chew on to bump her up that was it but how much does it increase the score does it touch Chloe Kim's 90 I don't know but Kelly Clark's 88 let's suspect right now there you see our current leader Chloe Kim and there you see Maddy Mastro an eighty nine point three three jumping master Oh all the way up in the silver medal position I don't want to say I told frontside 900 had the Crippler had the Michael Chuck right at the bottom I know we've said this for years and years and years but I really do not want to be a judge I'm sorry it's just the truth the was going through your mind right now it's pretty blank I mean I'm just overwhelmed I'm so happy to be able of landed that run clean I've been working really hard trying to put down that run so it perennial favorite to name this event outright went down pretty hard on her second run she's being evaluated by X Games medical for a left knee injury we do hope that she's okay but she will not be dropping for third final run these are the moments that make X Games the X Games I like that sigh right there Brando this has been the greatest woman's superpipe final I have ever seen Chloe Kim were so used to her putting down a massive score holding on to the lead throughout a contest this is uncharted territory for her to have to come from behind and win it outright but that's what's going to happen right now if she wants that gold medal she's got to do it right here right now I'm scared huge Methodist website 1080 gotta let it clean because this is the trick that will solidify the goal the tricks right there is so much pressure on this young competitor she's got the X Games here she's got the Olympics she's South Korean she's everybody's favorite to win but you still got to do it that's absolutely anything right you still gotta perform that's been the thing with Chloe the last couple of winters is perhaps maybe she hasn't picked washed every contest so she hasn't had to go and gold medal position yeah thanks very much guys Chloe it's been 2 years since you've done back-to-back tens like that what was going inside your head I was like I don't know if I could know well it was crazy because I was landing it every time in practice and just the nerves you know unlike this environment you want to like put down good runs for everyone like the crowds out here freezing to watch and you know you just want to put something cool down so there was a lot of pressure but I'm so happy I was able to do it and but more importantly I'm so happy for Arielle I feel like she's been doing so well and she's progressed so much this season so I'm just so stoked for her and her family and hard work pays off so I'm really happy for all right will you back on top now so good luck thank you incredible support and camaraderie out here tonight Chloe can we the lights shine the brightest when the fans cheer the loudest she did what she needed to do needed those back-to-back 1080s and she and you have to feel pretty good about that but the level of writing has dropped her all the way down to fifth place is there any catching maddie Mastro with this run that's gonna be a big mountain want to see or put that down but that's a tough way to start your run brando and i like it a lot of a risk a lot of reward a lot of a risk is that can i say that you can go ahead and say that there's a lot of risk on that air to fakie if you do it proper it looks so good but it's so easy to come in to that flat bottom their land deep switch that stuff and it can't be overstated enough after we saw what Maddie did after who saw what Arielle did and then after we saw what Chloe did it just creates this insane pressure cooker for everyone following and you saw that hat was shoot on and before we completely anoint Chloe camp there's someone that still stands in her way our defending gold medalist Elena hight it certainly has not been her evening she's sitting in 8th place she struggled through her first two runs if he wants to get the podium if she wants to defend her gold this is her third and final champ [Music] she's got four two on the backside night at three to three 7:23 falls on back now Brando I don't wanna speak too soon but I think we have a new X Games gold medalist in the women's super fund new but she's been there before our podium officially set and with that Chloe camp making even more history her fourth gold medal before the age of 18 she's the first X Games athlete to ever do that how many first can you happen one night she's 17 and this young lady just continues to rewrite the history books and this one might have been her sweetest yet given how she had to get there at a great first run nine then got pushed down by arielle gold all the pressure one run under the lights performance of the ages so Chloe Kim earns another gold medal Arielle gold with the silver and Maddie Mastro how about her first ever X Games medal we said it from the top we felt like tonight was the night that maybe she gets over the edge and gets on the podium for the first time in Iraq schemes career and she does just that Maddie Mastro her worst finish was a fourth this year
