Fall Farm Auction! what will we find?!

I followed my dreams and open an antique store to have adventures and spend time as a family sometimes you have to climb a mountain and open some new doors to find the treasures inside this is our life this is our adventure and this is curiosity Inc so it's bright and early it's a bit of a chilly morning but the boys are troopers today because we are going where we going guys that's right we are going to a farm auction near red water Alberta see if we can find some cool stuff do you guys bring your money ha ha I guess it's just dad money today but we're gonna hop in the car and go for riding well the one nice thing about winter is that the frost on your windows is like an instant security system it's like window tinting you can't see what's inside are there treasures inside well in this case yeah so you can go hop in front seat [Music] the red water Alberta eyes noted an hour outside of Edmonton there's not gonna be too far of a drive today the roads look like they're decent it is a little bit frosty outside a little bit of freezing fog but it's supposed to warm up above freezing out around lunchtime that's just already time to get an auction hot dog or hamburger and get the kids fed so you guys ready to go so guys what do you think we're gonna find a farm auction today what do you hope we're gonna buy what if it's a box full of like all coins gold points never know could be a box it's all nailed shut you know what's inside of it you get it home and you're like what would you do with a box full of gold coins it's good they're taken would you like stack it all up to have big piles of wolf like Lego for what if it's a box if you open it up that it's cottage cheese like yeah we can give it to have until she loves car what is all green and moldy yeah I'm pretty scared that's gross guys well let's hope we don't find any boxes full old rotten cheese so red water is only about a half hour outside of the city limits but I've never been here before and it's surprising how many small towns within an hour's drive event of your own city that you probably never even go to so well have a little look around but this auction is on a farm actually just a little bit outside of the town so we've got well it spent too much time in the town of red water itself [Music] but too much going on in red water this morning I realize like they've sucked themselves away really something worried we're gonna keep drivin right through town but another mile we'll be at the auction [Music] now parking on the field hopefully their ground is packed down really good so he can get out we have to go to where the flag person is here that wasn't too bad here no not too long all right so what we have to do now is go walk around and figure out what we're gonna buy and well what we want to bid on and they'll mark it down on the list I can see some of my friends are here already and since it's cold out Welling into the field they've got portable washrooms and even a fire pit pretty good idea burn barrel is actually an old steel tractor or not steam tractor but a steel tractor wheel if they use it for a burn barrel there we go here we are an auction full of cool stuff and the boys are more interested in cracking the ice if you fall through and your shoes get wet we're pretty much that a lot yeah let's see Jason every kid loves tracking a frozen ice okay it's getting wet now come on out so there was a few things I saw online that I was interested in so we're gonna see if we can track them down and note the lot numbers so when it comes up we'll know one to bid it's not too much here so it should be a pretty quick sale today be good so we can have more family time later on there's all sorts of different things we'll check writers this isn't the stuff I really came out here for tell me if you see something you think is cool okay let's see what you're looking at okay what do you see Jason yeah it could be Second World War you think that's cool or creepy there's a little candy vending machine we actually bought one of those at auction before those little recording devices that's not the same one we had but very similar yeah that's a big clock I mean that's the size of my foot there that's a really big clock it's not all that old though the little seed grilling tire stand is gonna cool let's go over and have a look that's kind of neat but also really heavy these old hair dryers usually go pretty cheap I actually turn those into lamps they end up being a pretty cool lamp for advertising signs are always good that most likely is a reproduction so put a little bit on that you'd be very careful this higher sign is good that looks like a good embossed sign Pepsi door push yeah you can touch it look at it this is for washing clothes no that's not a butter churn that's a washing machine imagine doing all your laundry with that this is kind of neat bring a Bible and that's probably from a church it's a book rest good old Edison real gramophone cylinder gramophone and looks like that's the horn for it there so place a bit on that it's even got some of the records for it there's some stuff that wouldn't be easy to sell like you know a random ashtray and stuff but then there's you know if be careful they reproduce these still that's actually new it's not old little coke cooler is cool the carnation shortening tin of a unique Oliver typewriter hey guys you gotta have a look at this typewriter but at the arms the Hammers for the typewriter come from the science it's a much different style and what we're used to and they're kind of neat I could see this was probably inventory at a store at a price tag on it of 230 they didn't sell it so they put it at auction we'll see what it goes for candy store register that's a smaller size and that's the more popular size you want to look for and Stephens pretty much obsessed with motorcycles right now again at that age this is an old Honda 90 Bentley actually just the perfect size for a guy like company these are pretty cool little bike this one looks to be really complete a a Triumph t100 tiger depending upon what these go for I might be putting some bids on these guys too let's make sure they're still compression which there is so good potential there now these signs are not in great shape but they're advertising for a local radio station and that is kind of cool for people who like music collectibles it's just really beat up so that should go pretty cheap that's one of the items we actually came out for was a coffee mill there's supposed to be another one here too but hopefully doesn't go for crazy prices hey guys you think your sister would like this little dollhouse somebody built I'm guessing it was built in the 80s based on the carpeting and the Smurfs wallpaper did a nice job only nothing we're gonna go after there's a nice set of leather Samsonite luggage in good shape some tillers nice little Johnson boat motor that's what the same age is our boat and it's not stopping either a couple barbershop pulls this one's token for sure those always sell flesh is what he can get it for the right price so there's a few things that made it worthwhile to come out the question is whether the other people here gonna be willing to bid more than I am I have to keep margins in mind where if they're the end user the buyer they don't they can just bid because they want it so we'll see how things go today okay boys so do you know what this is how about how do you know it's for a well there's a little hook at the top there's a hook yeah how else can you tell okay well you're pretty close look at the bottom of it see how it's rounded that's so no not to a float so when he gets to the bottom of the well it tilts and scoops the water so when you lower it all the way it drops on its side and then it lifts the water and you pull it back up so if you see a bucket like this it has a rounded bottom that's well bucket and an old one to railway signal lamp this is kind of weird I don't what they used would have used this for high-end soups I guess maybe this would have been in a diner or something so you dumped your can of soup in there heated it up so you could serve it in portions maybe I'm not sure I have not seen one before somebody watching maybe has seen one I mean it's obviously for soup but why they would have had it like that well okay I could think of was maybe a restaurant used you have to look through the boxes and Timms because sometimes activity be good ones in here now most of these are really too much of anything this however is a pretty decent tin and that would make bidding on the whole thing worthwhile so we're gonna go after number four for nine most auctions what you want to do is go in have certain things in mind that you want to bid on and kind of try not to get caught up in the other stuff that you didn't go there for because when the thing comes up that you want you might have spent your money on something else another good rule of thumb is to have a price in mind of how far you want to go on an item so when you hit that number you'll have a fail-safe to back out otherwise you get caught up an auction fever and who can overspend big-time on things so I've got my list of all the lot numbers made up what I have to do is start giving some idea of where my end point my dollar points gonna be so I don't bid too crazy so you have to be willing to walk away so if I'm lucky today I'll be coming home with the barbershop pull the coffee grinder and a couple of those signs those are the main things I came out here for and then there's a few other little things I like the door pushes and you know the typewriter and stuff that I thought it's cool if it goes cheap enough I'll pick it up so we're just saying warm in the car right guys yeah so we're in the ambulance keeping warm auction starts about ten minutes so we'll be going out there when it gets a little bit closer auction time get in close auction time wanna be prom oh dear we don't want to have this prompt but once it's rolled it belongs to you now one other important thing and nobody everybody listen because when we say so everything goes back on the trailer you guys do not take one single thing nothing leaves we're gonna have a baby here you need to build a sail but it's paid for so do not take anything about 375 to 400 dollars or sold for 250 but you know you have to keep margins in mind travel expenses all that stuff so by the time it's sold in the store I probably would have only made 50 bucks 25 bucks it's still profit but there's other things here I'm after and [Music] so we've been waitin about two hours for this trailer to come out is it's the first trailer of stuff that have any quantity of things we might want to buy on us so we got the bitter card ready and start bidding 325 well you got them for 300 300 bucks 7950 no there's any but are now 50 now 75 50 know there's an Evo ar-15 on is any vibrator potato I'll tell you what those you've owned all these you won't get your lunch stuff with anybody else's I get 50 down here $60 Perry freer would you next time you go to full box 50 down here city you look good didn't even have a shot at Bella [Music] 5500 550d probably Gordon Bombay on the corner 55 55 50 watt scroll prime of the quarter five and a half [Music] so I got a few things pretty cheap that I can convert into lighting which is what we're gonna do with it so this whole heater will become a really cool table lamp same thing with the old hair dryer bits and pieces but certainly didn't have to pay a whole lot for I think that was five bucks and this is about 40 cool-looking thing looks like a aqua jet or something really neat looking I've had one before the tins that I got so this little tray of tins I got the whole thing for 30 bucks there's a couple in here that are pretty good the Calumet baking powder with the chief on it there's a couple of those good early tins good graphics but the main one that I wanted out of here was this guy the map was spread peanut butter eaten can be worth about well over $100 this one in this shape polished up can clean a little bit is probably about $125 Canadian tin it's a difficult to find can and fairly collectible so for 30 bucks that was a good score so the tail end of the auction a lot of the good stuff I wanted to wait for is going way too high way over retail so there's no money to be made here at the auction for me and that's probably one of the reasons why I don't often go to auctions to buy I am usually the guy who's selling at the auction but I learned one thing if I want to get good money for some of my stuff for the future drag it out to the country because people will apparently pay 2 3 times what it's worth good job for the auctioneer good job for the sellers they made some good money today on a lot of these items I got a couple little fines that I think were misses that maybe they didn't know they had so it was worthwhile coming out and I got to spend some time with the boys too which is always nice but thanks again for watching I hope you guys have a wonderful day thanks for tuning
