I think the ecoboosts are quite the technical marvel. Great motors.

in this video I want to compare the three most recent generations of the f-150 and kind of help you decide which might be better for what you need [Music] [Applause] [Music] now the idea for this video came up when a friend of mine recently asked me how I liked my f-150 have I had any issues he's looking to trade his older Tacoma in and he's eyeballing the new f-150s so he kind of wanted to gauge my experience with them so I thought I could do the same for you guys and kind of share what I've learned about the different generation f-150s since being an owner myself so videos like that sound interesting to you subscribe and check out some of my older videos when you're done with this one all right guys let's get started so we're gonna talk about the three most recent generations of the f-150 believe it or not we're currently on the 13th generation now first we're going to talk about the 11th generation that goes from 2004 to 2008 the biggest difference you're probably going to notice between these different generations of the f-150 are gonna be their styling but the 11th generation f-150s kind of brought forward back to the more angular style that we still see it's pretty popular today the top-of-the-line engine you could get in that f-150 was the 5.4 but with the 11th generation it brought around the three valve models compared to the old two valves which those were rated at 300 horsepower and 365 foot-pounds of torque part way through the runn flex fuel or p85 actually became an option as well the FX for off-road package became its own trim level versus just an additional option this was the first appearance of navigation as an option in the f-150 but I would say if that's something you're looking for in a used vehicle you probably want to get the newest vehicle you can because I can only imagine how data in a system like that would be compared to newer generations satellite radio also became an option on the the lariat and King Ranch models so something like that while the interface might be out of date in theory functionality it should still work fine and properly equipped you know these these older f-150s could still tow up to 11,000 pounds a lot of that changes based off you know cab configuration two-wheel drive four-wheel drive gear ratios so if towing something you really need you'll want to look in those different configurations and see the different tow ratings and how they change based on those options now let's move on to the 12th generation which is actually the generation of f150 the ione now the 12th generation is the last of the steel body f-150s so if you're one of those guys that's worried about the cost to repair an aluminum body so you work on a construction site truck gets a little banged up you want that added strength of the steel and maybe you want some newer amenities too and I would say the 12th generation is a good mix of both worlds for you now in the 12th generation we saw the introduction of the coyote 5 liter v8 rated at 360 horsepower 380 pound feet of torque we saw the introduction of the 3.5 liter EcoBoost v6 which was rated at 365 horsepower and 420 pound-feet of torque and we also saw the 6.2 liter old-school style pushrod v8 option which packed a whopping 411 horsepower and 434 pound-feet of torque this 12th generation is also when we first saw the introduction of the now famous Ford Raptor now I think we can definitely agree that the Ford Raptor kind of brought on this this new resurgence of popularity of off-road focused trucks and now we have the TRD pro Toyotas the zr2 Colorado's even the new Raptor Ranger which we don't get in the States but I don't think any of these trucks would exist had it not been for the Ford Raptor and interestingly enough in 2012 there were 10 different trim levels you could get on your f150 you've had the XL STX XLT FX 2 FX 4 lariat King Ranch platinum Harley Davidson and the SVT Raptor basically the 12th generation f150 offers a little bit of something for pretty much everybody and last we'll talk about the 13th generation f150 now these are the current f-150s they have gone under a little bit of a facelift but they've been out since 2015 with this generation of f150 we saw board switch to a fully aluminum body which in some configurations saved up to like 700 pounds it was the first generation to offer the 360-degree camera adaptive cruise control collision warning blind spot warning and lane keep assist so if you're really looking for something that's got all those modern safety features the 13th generation it's pretty much your only option with that we also got the updated second generation of the Ford Raptor unfortunately Ford decided to only stick the EcoBoost in there which had a lot of people upset but hasn't hurt their sales port actually got rid of their naturally aspirated v6 option and replaced it with a smaller 2.7 liter EcoBoost which was rated at 325 horsepower in between 375 and 400 foot-pounds of torque which is not bad for the baseline model that's 6.2 liter v8 that was in the first generation Raptor is no large option for the 13th generation f-150s but you can still get it in the current f250 s pretty much all the motors got some power bumps but the five liter v-8 gets between 385 and 395 horsepower in between 387 to 400 pound-feet of torque a 3.5 EcoBoost gets between 365 and 400 horsepower in between 420 and 510 pound-feet of torque now the reason there's such a big difference between the power ratings on the 3.5 EcoBoost is because in the raptor version they put a more high output version and in 2018 we also see the introduction of the new 10 or a t10 speed transmission which so far seems to be impressing people pretty well so now the big question is which one of these f-150s is right for you so the first thing I wanted to help you figure that out is time to talk about the the pricing and budget aspect of this I went onto CarGurus and I looked up a lariat super crew cab four wheel drive f150 for the 11th and 12th generation I only looked at the most recent year so 2008 and 2014 you know it's trying to gauge the price difference between the different generations and also you know what kind of mileage you would be looking at so for the eleventh generation you can expect to pay between eight and ten thousand dollars for an f-150 with 100,000 miles or more or the 12th generation you're probably looking to pay between 24 and 29 thousand dollars for truck that Scott you know 40,000 miles or more and the 13th generation trucks this is where it gets a little interesting again you're gonna be looking to pay between 24 and say 34 thousand dollars now with the newer trucks there's a bigger range of mileage available some people have barely driven their trucks a lot of people have put over a hundred thousand miles on them already so for the 13th generation that can vary the price a lot so depending on how much money you have to spend you know that can kind of make your decision for you so if you're on a tighter budget and maybe you're looking for a truck you're not afraid to beat up a little bit if you need a work truck I'm gonna recommend you go with the older 11th generation f150 just make sure you have a mechanic look it over make sure it's been well maintained and it doesn't have any crazy problems that the previous owner is trying to hide if you have a little more to spend I would try and recommend you figure out you know how many miles are you willing to accept being on your new truck if you're someone that needs something really low miles then you're gonna have a lot more options in the 12th and 13th generation drugs now for those of you guys that want to do a lot of towing well first you should probably be getting a diesel truck but if you don't need to tow anything that heavy I would recommend looking at the 12th or 13th generation f150 that way you have just kind of a younger truck all around you're gonna get the more modern powerplant options that will get better gas mileage for towing plus you'll be able to get the backup camera and on some of the nicer trucks I they they started adding the the tow hitch assist camera on the rear things like that if you are gonna be towing a lot can probably make your life a lot easier now if you tend to buy things that are newer you want something nice comfortable a little more luxurious now I'm going to say go for the 13th generation f-150 Ford really stepped up their interior quality when they made these f-150s and while it might be starting to get a little dated comparing to Chevy and Ram the 13th generation interiors are definitely a lot better than the interior on my truck now my truck again is a 12th generation it has a lot of nice features you know you can get the satellite radio the navigation leather seat heated and cooled and while it does look a little dated the biggest thing is you know there are still a lot of interior squeaks and rattles things like that to just come with a little bit older of a truck so with that I want to ask you guys what do you need an f-150 for is it a family vehicle are you gonna be towing do you need a work truck you know what is it and if you guys own an f-150 hit me up in the comments tell me what generation you have have you liked your truck as it worked out well for you I want you guys to share your knowledge and experience with people that are maybe looking to get their first f-150 that way we can actually build a community on this channel but anyways guys that's gonna wrap up this week's video again if you haven't already hit that like button subscribe and I'll see you guys in the next one y'all take care [Music]
