[Music] hey Tommy what Ford f-150 do you think is more reliable is it the one with the 5 liter coyote v8 or is it the one with the v6 twin-turbo the one that Ford calls the EcoBoost we're gonna find out on this very special episode of a dude I love or hate my ride home edition so Tommy how are we gonna figure that out we've got two owners both with 2013 f-150 S one with the 3 v EcoBoost one with the 5-meter coyote and we're going to have them talk about their experiences over a long term ownership period both of these trucks over 230,000 miles hi this is Roman from TfL and I've got case here to show off Avalon King's do-it-yourself ceramic coating hands inside the kit is everything you need to apply it to your car or truck just wrap the cloth around the foam pad apply drops of Avalon King and wipe it onto your vehicle buff it off after it dries and you're done Evelyn King uses nanotechnology to seal all the pores on your vehicle surface to form an invisible semi-permanent shield that can last two to three years the coating produces a glass-like glossy finish on your vehicle's painted surfaces headlights rims and glass better yet it makes cleaning off dirt mud bugs and other insults to your vehicle's paint a heck of a lot easier it's like car wax on steroids get your own bottle and seed for yourself click on the link below and use the code fast lane 25 to get $25 off now let's get back to our regular scheduled video [Music] and then at the end of the show we're going to show you how to submit videos because Andre has an idea Tommy and he wants to find out what's the most reliable brand is it Ford is it Ram is a Chevy is it Nissan or is it Toyota so we'll tell you how to submit videos with very specific question but first let's look at this truck who's the owner this is Phil this is 2013 model with the three point five people on a brand new with just five miles on the odometer he's kept meticulous records on what he's done to this vehicle and it now has two hundred and forty eight thousand miles so this is a high mileage EcoBoost alright roll the video I can't wait a tear TfL truck this is my 2013 f-150 again at EcoBoost this is a 3.5 157 wheelbase this is one of things I was definitely looking for with this truck oh well if these wrecks are really hard to come by getting a longer bed to six-and-a-half bed there's a lot of those little short ones but I mostly bought this for hunting and then for my farm truck is entirely bone stock I've not done anything no tuners nothing under the hood do most of my towing off a pintle hitch back here inside the bed again just random stuff for my last job whole thing I did do is I just throw this a quick connector here on for my winch just done tons and tons all little changes air filters and tires mostly a lot of tires so here inside the truck I've got my laptop open this is my maintenance log maintenance sheet first year pretty much nothing one things on those recurring on here is a it's called oil treatment basically we get these this is the guy used he's up here in New Hampshire with me basically this rust proof and keeping these trucks clean shortly afterwards actually notice I had a truck out to O'Meara Ford in Colorado around 80,000 had a couple issues in the 70 thousands here I'll call him slightly minor because it's I'm pretty much used to it now if you will but at 60,000 how to throttle body go out and then unfortunately at 70,000 just seven eight or ten thousand miles later I was on a trip across the country and was uh and I think Indiana Illinois and then ultimately in Ogallala Nebraska finally got a fix just found out that this truck really like throttle buddies I think I can honestly say if I went through this whole list I'm on my seventh maybe eath one now this truck likes throttle body's like a fat kid with cake it probably uses one about every 30,000 miles I can change these faster than a tire I could just pop the hood they come right out more tires more snow tires more stuff more throttle bodies really nothing too crazy on here here's a current much 247 990 finally lost a muffler and probably thousands of miles ago just got the new one order I'm putting that on this afternoon I've just got some guitars of the day and just had an alignment I was actually only the second alignment ever on this truck it was barely out of spec trucks been really good with tires I just drive a lot so it uses a lot of them up top here this is kind of my running total excel just adds this up for me about 2,400 no changes 380 and electric stuff 330 mechanical stuff engine stuff again I'm gonna say most of that was actually a deductible for a exhaust leak exhaust manifold leak on the right hand side and actually it's a leaking again I got to probably put another one of that man soon a little under 900 brakes almost 3,500 for tires and wheels again this is an upgrade this is just buying tires and wheels and another 3900 again a big chunk of that is just the factory ESP warranty the other 1400 be things like the fluid films and uh oil underneath and those kind of things that's the mouse 247 nine eighty one point nine hundred and forty-seven thousand won 5-1 with a trailer check engine light is on just because I had to turn the key to make this stuff show up just took a two thousand mile trip got about 10 miles a gallon that was telling a key skid steer and something else I forgot to everybody but about ten miles now it's kind of normal ish towing unless I get something really heavy really weird behind it lifetime average it's just at about 12 miles a gallon I didn't buy this to be a tote rig I bought it because I wanted a truck to have on our farm for like a lighter duty truck found it just does a lot of the stuff that you know with the exception of payload like our diesel trucks you can drop three four or five thousand pounds in the back of a but my god they just don't ride like this so a lot of our trips we're doing lighter Duty stuff we'll grab this so the interior nothing fancy Cabela's seat covers got the WeatherTech mats on the bottom bought this because we're expecting a family haven't used it a ton for kids but able to easily fit the walk in here get a toolbox under there got some D wall tools right there a couple moving blankets if I need to pad anything got a battery box that goes with this winch here just for dragging stuff up on the trailer truck is a little grimy as you can see again most of this is just a function of these oil under coatings my buddy David does this he drills a little hole in the cab corners here it has like a 360 degree gun shoots oil chainsaw oil but we get this just nice under coating of a little bit of film but I mean the two hundred thousand mile truck in the Northeast and leather-like not a speck of Ross the mean it's solid as can be one thing I noticed I did put the aftermarket toe mirrors on these are just a bolt on off of Amazon that's one of those things on my list there they're probably 200 bucks give or take pretty much love the truck was a little disappointed when it was eating the throttle bodies but if you just keep up with the maintenance I mean I'm very handy I can do a lot of this stuff the one thing I did not do was the exhaust manifold and I'm not gonna do it next time that's not my cup of tea but I will replace the muffler today I have done all the brakes I've done everything nobody's ever done an oil change on this thing but me and that's pretty much a story thanks guys I think we'll tighten it up a little bit yeah my gosh how many of you guys out there have done every oil change on a vehicle with 250,000 miles he must have it down to a science Tommy yep he sure does and it sounds like he's done quite a number of throttle bodies as well now it sounds like he still loves this truck he cares about this truck and the fact that this is from the Northeast with this little rust is pretty amazing it just goes to show that if you use the correct stuff inside throughout the vehicle underneath they can last with salt however it looks like that ranch hand in the front has not fared quite as well yeah that bull bar is pretty rusty so now the question is how has an owner done with basically the same year the same truck but with v8 under the hood so who's next tummy okay next up that we have Andrew okay Andrew has another 13f 115 this time with a five liter he bought it five years ago bought it used with 67,000 miles and now it's up to 230,000 so he's put a lot of a lot of road time on this vehicle well I can't wait to see how this compares to the EcoBoost role the video would you the morning TfL trucks hi my name's Andrew Cummings well this is a 2013 f-150 5.0 and the reliability on this had I think has been very very exceptional I've owned the vehicle for five years when I bought it it had 60 some thousand odd miles on it bought it from the Ford dealership Motors never been out nothing major mechanically besides crack hos on the coolant line so there's only pretty much the biggest thing never replaced besides the wheel bearing other than that this truck has never had anything major replaced on it there's a couple things for could've done better that I really don't like there's like year there's no 49 man wore this here's come off a couple times it's it's no more no more but I show you the mileage room truck you still going to be like wow it does have backup camera but that is a quality Ford I guess wasn't constant training on in 2013 because it does not work with it works when he wants to blue screen comes up nothing shows up then sometimes it pops up works fine overall the quality of the truck for me and my family and for what I do for work it's been very very good I don't have chickens like it comes on and goes off when he wants to as a ruttin ilex home type pressure sensor that's another faulty thing put forward that I've had a problem with you see I'm averaging about fourteen point seven miles but that is two hundred and thirty three thousand two hundred twenty-five miles understand overall performance like 360 horsepower corner and ninety foot pound three to four I'm not mistaken I just changed all when I'm supposed to all the maintenance that's supposed to be done on these vehicles I've really really stand behind a 5.0 I've always had a EcoBoost that's a 2012 Lincoln but this is the new truck I added to my family is 2016 for limiting now this has the EcoBoost I'm gonna see how this does I just recently got this can't really say too much on it right now but I do know that EcoBoost is reliable that ever there has a hundred and seventy thousand miles EcoBoost extremely good Explorer very very reliable truck like I said I can't really say nothing bad mechanically or anything like that but for could all off better interior wise exterior wise on the quality of the products i'ma keep putting miles on or hopefully I can make you another video when it has another hundred thousand miles on well I got tight on me both of these trucks have lasted and have stood the test of time I kind of like the red coyote better just because I'm a sucker for ride yeah but up here at elevation the EcoBoost is a much more powerful engine so I'd probably go for the EcoBoost just in terms of sheer power now it's interesting to see these two owners perspectives keep in mind this may not represent the entire flock of eco booths and five liters because they're used differently in their different ages but it is interesting to see two real owners perspectives yeah but let's make it a little more scientific Tommy because we want to know from you how long your truck has lasted in the how it has lasted so Andre was kind enough to put together a series of questions that we'd love you to answer in videos that you submit to us that way we can do a apples-to-apples comparison of brands so Andre take it away hey guys yes we want to know about your high mileage truck but we want to structure it in a very specific way this is why we're asking for top 10 things about your high mileage truck so not only do we want to see your truck but actually be able to structure the data so when we publish it we can actually let people know about each major component of your truck and how it has behaved over time so first critical component probably the most expensive component of your truck or any vehicle is your engine so number 10 on the list I would like to hear some stories of if or when your truck has left you stranded due to an engine failure I'm not talking about a dead battery because that happens to most of us and let us know what the story was and also let us know if there was what was the cost involved with getting your truck back on the road and of course if it has never left you stranded let us know that as well number nine and list have you ever had to replace your injectors in your engine or do some special cleaning to the fuel system of your truck I had a 2002 Chevy Silverado 2500 heavy duty I had to replace my injectors on that diesel engine and it was very costly so let us know as well what was the cost related to this fuel system problem or if you didn't have any problems let us know that as well very specifically number eight on the list is have you had to replace your timing belt or a timing chain on your engine if you haven't had to do it you may have a gear driven timing system in your diesel or something like that but let us know about this because this can be expensive can be difficult to do and let us know your experience especially for those trucks with a lot of miles over a hundred fifty thousand miles now let's shift gears literally to the next component which is a transmission transmissions are getting a little bit more complicated they're getting more gears transmissions are getting more costly but what if something goes wrong so number seven on the list we want to know specifically an item related to your transmission has your transmission left you stranded tell us a story about it and the cost associated with getting a truck back on the road and number six on our list also is related to the transmission we want to know exactly how the transmission has behaved over the life of your truck since he owned it when you purchased it maybe you did it because the truck was moving fast but have you noticed a degradation and performance of your transmission all right now let's shift to another component and I'm talking about rust now so number five on our list has to deal with chassis frame body or your bed of your truck and any issues with rust or decay let us know exactly where you live how you drive your truck are you up north are they using a lot of salt on the roads in the wintertime are you down south and maybe there's a lot of moisture in the air whatever the case may be let us know how your truck has lasted so let us know that and exactly what you have to replace and perhaps how much it costs to replace certain body components or deal with the rust issues or if you use like wax or something on your frame to prevent further further rust next up is safety of your vehicle that's very important obviously and we want to know if you had any incidents or accidents with your truck hopefully not but if you have had a fender bender or some sort of minor issue minor damage on your truck let us know first of all how well the truck held up did it protect you well enough that's number four in our list but also number three on our list let us know what it took to repair it for example if you have a Ford with aluminum bed and body and structure what did it take to repair it if you have another vehicle maybe you have a composite bed or something else maybe it's your headlights or your taillights if any of those items were damaged let us know how easy or difficult it was to replace them or fix them and how much it costs number two analyst has two with interior and electronics of your truck once again trucks are getting more complicated they have more features so let us know exactly how they have held up and performed over the length of time and I'm talking about wear and tear on your seats your - maybe your stereo system let us know how your infotainment system that Center screen has performed over time and number one in the list has to do with the recalls what we want to know in this item is has your truck had an urgent recall for which you had to take it to the dealership specifically to get a safety item taken care of we're not necessarily interested in sort of more minor recalls about software upgrades that are done routinely during your regular maintenance for example when you went in for an oil change and you had a minor recall done we're more interested here about major major important recalls that you have to specifically take your time and take your truck off the road and into the dealer to get actually that work performed and done and finally let us know anything else that we've missed about your truck maybe an adventure story that was really cool or maybe you went somewhere and you had a major problem that you have to deal with so let us know anything else that we may have missed that has to do with the reliability and durability of your truck either you could be very happy or very mad about it and guys once again thank you and I look forward to watching your submissions and actually publishing this data on the website DFL truck comm and of course this channel right here TfL truck thanks Andre now we do have some submission instructions that I will show right now but we're gonna tweak up just a little bit first of all when you do these videos make sure you shoot them like this horizontally vertical videos just do not look good on YouTube we can't use them yeah they're great tik-tok videos and Instagram but they're no good on YouTube and our we transfer system seems to be working pretty well but along with your name and your truck we're also asking that you include the mileage as well just so we know the age and the use case of the truck hey thank you for sending us your video here else to do so we can make it famous on dude I love my ride home edition well we noticed that a lot of people had some issues sending us files because emails are just not suitable for video however we do have a much better solution it's a file service called we transfer and we transfers away you can securely and safely and freely we should say send us your video files that way the quality is better and there's no issues going down the road so here's how you do it if you're planning on using your cell phone to upload the files like I think many of you will be all you have to do is open up your browser and this works both on Apple and Android and type in TF L Studios dot wetransfer dot-com and then hit enter now it will take you to this page and you'll see a big button that says send the file click that and then tap I agree and it'll give you a plus arrow where you can actually add your files add up to 20 gigabytes so click that I'm gonna say photo library videos and then I'm gonna select my video and hit done so there you can see your video is added in the message section please add your name and your truck so in this case it'll be Tommy Micah and the truck or car or whatever a lot more is 2020 Nissan Titan just so we know what's coming our way and then click Next and then you plug in your own personal email and what it'll do is send you a verification just to make sure you're a real person and not a robot and click transfer so it says verify your email go ahead and check your email and you'll see a code and then go ahead and plug in your verification code alright and verify so once you're verified you'll see it will upload your file to the Internet and you can see it going there and then and then it will send a verification that you have completed your transfer and that we have received it now you can actually do the same exact process on a computer it's just as easy let me show you here in the computer it's the same exact process so simply type in TfL studios we transfer dot-com and hit enter and then here you'll see a little bubble that says add your files so click on the file you want to add then plug in your email address your personal email address and a message once again your name and your vehicle so it'll ask you to verify your email again and then you'll be ready to go and we'll get your file a little bit quicker it'll be a little bit easier well thank you so much for contributing and if you have any questions email me ask at evil truck.com and we'll help you through all right well there you have it now you guys know what videos we're looking for by the way thank you to everybody who's already sent us a video keep in mind we're not looking for mods we're looking for very specific answers to very specific questions so that we can figure out what brand is most reliable I can't wait yep and head over to TfL truck comm for the latest and greatest in new truck reviews as always this is rhomin and tommy saying thanks see you guys next time ciao
