what's up everybody it's robert coming to you with sidestep adventures and today we are going to take a look at an old georgia farm house now this is the griffin house here in waverly hall georgia this house is built approximately 1900 i think 1903 is what the tax paperwork says and that's pretty fascinating um it's been relatively well kept for an old house and we're going to be able to tour it today maybe even check out the attic but before i start i want to tell you a little bit of the history of this house so this house was built by uh the griffin family who came from griffin georgia now they fled griffin georgia during the civil war and wound up here in waverly hall georgia and stayed and mr griffin who built this house is also a local carpenter local home builder and helped build several of the other houses around waverly hall now after they owned it it became known as the swent house that was the second owner so it was the griffin swent house and now it is owned by another family and it is for sale but there's only been uh three families in this house since it was originally built so that's pretty fascinating um you know a lot of times with older houses you know it goes through a bunch of people uh this one only three families um and it is for sale now um so i think it's a hundred and i've got the realtor with me we'll find out how much the price is but that being said let's get started let's take a look at it [Music] so this is the newest part of the house back here this is actually an addition and i want to say that local story and dan aiken told me that this was built by a fellow named joe story so that would have been back in 70s 80s i think this house is still lived in right now until it sells there's a dog in here so you may hear some barking but pretty cool you've got an outside window right here that's neat so cool we'll go into the older part of the house it's kind of cool walls would have expected like uh plasters like board right you know we're getting into the cool part of the house the uh i guess original flowers original hardwood floors so it's actually kind of cool to see the differences in this house versus my house the birdhouse because it's of the same error but a era but a nicer a nicer house like it's got the the details on the side of the doors of pushing yeah and i would say you don't know what's been changed but all of this stuff is that's original okay i'm sure this was a this was probably added on but i'm sure this yeah jason was the original exactly yeah i was looking at the hardware on the doors and uh i'm gonna show you this doorknob oh there we go there's some light got a extra flashlight too there you go oh there you go a little bit better some sunlight in so i wonder i i don't think i don't guess these walls are original here this looks like something that was sounds like almost like [Music] the old tongue and groove is almost like cedar but yeah they did the drop down ceiling that's right normal height is in here yeah there's the there's the original sealants here original wood bead board it's got picture rail up alongside there and is this this original plaster where's that drywall there oh cool oh wow doorknob it's really neat yeah it is see that is beautiful that's that's pretty um there's a pass-through closet too that's kind of cool so this is probably original i'm guessing a parlor room fireplace or it could have been a dining room too with uh like a pass-through uh pantry for them serving guests that's cool and then the old original hardware for the door that that knob goes with and it is a it's a beautiful house and a lot can be done with it it's almost like a blank canvas as it is right now it's got a drop seal in here too goes all the way thought it did oh well it goes all the way on the top it just has the separations [Music] if that was a added in i guess this was maybe doors look a little bit newer neato door knobs is this door this door was added in just notice how short this door was right that's neat yeah it is this goes back to where it used to kind of go from room to room yeah that one [Applause] and again speedboard ceilings up there something hidden in there that's cool another thing too i noticed on the outside of the house uh is all the wavy the wavy glass windows see the waves in them yeah i don't know if you guys will be able to see on camera but not the old windows and it's six over six you can see where the window used to be but the ropes are missing so those are probably fallen or been pulled out then this is another closet oh yeah [Music] maybe not all right i'll come around and here's another little office type room and a bathroom that would have been added let's see where the floors look really good really do nice old oak floors beautiful a little closet space oh is this the wax space no attic yeah oh you know it's got the um thresholds in the door here so this is kind of something that you see a lot in older houses even antebellum houses and kind of went out of fashion later on now i think this is this is a plaster wall here as you can see that yeah it may have been reworked at some time but there's another fireplace right there everyone had a fireplace oh look i'm guessing there used to be a transom over this window that was covered over because this would have been the uh back of the house right yeah i think the house would have ended right here this is all the addition over here yeah and this is the bathroom and then the other one went out to the back porch at one time or something right it's pretty neat you can see the transom there too oh yeah it would have been yeah so probably oh this is this is actually the original door and it would have been a piece of glass here because it's got the old doorbell oh and it doesn't work oh that's too bad that's cool look at all the little i didn't even notice that yeah it's a cool cool area so yeah probably when you walked in and they probably would have been just hallway straight down um with rooms off to either side and then this one was removed at one time so yeah that wild probably would have been right about right about here i'm thinking with the other wall yeah right through here then yeah pretty cool there's probably transoms above these windows they're these doors or these walls may not even been here it may have just been open all the way to a back door that would have been there somewhere hard to say exactly yeah that's it the other side of it yeah oh there it goes there it goes there we go [Music] that's too cool thanks yeah a lot of detail oh man that's pretty good huh wb40 you're right that's really cool yeah it is i love those too neat and polish that up yeah probably all grass [Music] i'm gonna go back through that way okay i'll lock this up all right i'll uh walk around out here all right so as i said we made it out around the back on the front porch of the house and might i say it is a beautiful day in georgia today beautiful for a porch swing which is what this used to be on the front of the house and another detail that i'm guessing is original to the house is this these are also on the old bird farm house but they're much more extravagant on my house just kind of neat to see similarities but also differences there i don't believe that these railings are original to the house here this looks like something that somebody added in at a later time they don't look old enough for the house i'm sure it had some kind of railing here just something a little bit different you can also see where the porch has been repaired at one time there's the original floorboards here and repairs over here so very cool very cool old house here oh and look here you can see where this was probably a window that went all the way to the floor at one time if you look below this window you can see the the cutouts right there this window probably went all the way to the floor um there's several houses here in waverly hall that have windows like that so kind of neat kind of neat and again you can see the difference in the porch floorboards here from original the original tongue and groove right there to the new here so we'll get down and take a walk around the house on these grounds because this is definitely a beautiful property and while this is a smaller scale compared to my house this is similar to what it would have been in the fact that you've got the one room that sticks out with the single window right there that's how my house used to be on the front and then they added other rooms on the side later on but that kind of front of the house not the roof line the roof line is completely different than my house but just that original fortune and room right there is how my house originally was and then a window was added in mine over there and i've got a window like that and then two other windows were added here the difference between this general shape on the outside of the house in my house is that mine is scaled up uh so it is a larger larger version and of course as i said the roof line is all different but it does share chimneys um two chimneys on the inside like my house does uh one that would have come up there and one that came up there that are both below the roof line but just an absolutely gorgeous old farmhouse and very simple old farmhouse [Laughter] you can even see wavy glass in this window right here so that window was added in it was pretty early and i say that because that's a 404 windowpane versus these six over six there's a nandina growing on the front of the house or on the side of the house here at least there's no wisteria on this property all right everybody i hope you've enjoyed seeing this old rural farmhouse i certainly did i love old farm houses and it's neat for me to be able to compare a house that's of the same era to mine and see the differences and so big shout out to david haynes for bringing me out here to the house also the drummer for dick dell back in the 90s in the 90s and the sally brown band and the sally brown band today that's that's pretty cool thanks a lot thanks for coming hey thanks man thanks for bringing me out i enjoyed it and again you know you got to get it quick but this house is for sale as of right now if you're watching it from a year from now don't worry about it we'll see you next time you
