[Music] Shalom and welcome to via afta Israel a Hebrew phrase which means you shall love Israel we hope you'll stay with us for the next 30 minutes as our teacher dr. Baruch shares his expose Ettore teaching from the Bible dr. Baruch is the senior lecturer at the Sarah Avraham Institute based in Israel although all courses are taught in Hebrew at the Institute dr. Baruch is pleased to share this weekly address in English to find out more about our work in Israel please visit us on the web at love Israel you are G that's one word love Israel o RG now here's Baruch with today's lesson are you ready to be used by God if God were to call you would you be quick to respond trusting him no matter how great or difficult that call might be that you would respond as Abraham and others have done hey Nene behold here am I or would you question God want me to know why he called you why you would be the one that he would want to use so where are you in your submissiveness to the voice and the call of God well with that said to get your Bible and look with me to the book of Exodus in chapter 3 now we've seen over the last couple weeks we've seen how Moses that he has demonstrated compassion and a sense and a commitment to justice and the people of God but no sooner beginning we find that Moses panicked and he fled for his life and he began a new life in Midian but nevertheless God God had moved God had revealed himself Moses had respond and we see that God gave him a call a call that we encountered last week look me as I said to the book of Exodus and chapter three and we'll begin and that last verse that we concluded with last week where God is saying now go and notice how frequently when God calls when God speaks he does so through commands he says now and this isn't a sense of urgency now go I am sending you to Pharaoh and you bring forth my people the children of Israel from Egypt now the call is is clear the assignment is obvious God has been very succinct but he has been very mighty in revealing himself a god that can overcome the nature of this world a supernatural God how has he shown that by this bush that was ablaze with fire but not consumed God is an overcoming God and he wants us to share in his victory but notice Moses responds verse 11 and Moses said two very important not just Elohim but ha Elohim it's emphasizing this one God the only God in other words Moses has come to the conclusion and rightly so that this one who's speaking to him is the only true God but the question is this does he understand all the implications of that that fact and better yet do you do you really believe that you have been brought into a covenant with the one living God the God who is without limitations the God who is transcendent over all things through whom all things are possible you see Moses although he knew God he wasn't ready to accept all the truth concerning the attributes of God so Moses said to the God who and I and here's the problem Moses is looking at the situation in light of himself you ought not do that what God has called you to do is in light of who he is and we'll see an important truth in a few minutes and that is that he will be with you that he has promised not to leave us nor forsake us but to move in and through our life according to his will so Moses he has it wrong when he says Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh and that I should bring forth the children of Israel from Egypt what Moses is saying is this as he focuses in on himself on his own ability on who he is he feels utterly inadequate for that test and that's okay because it does not depend upon him anything that God has given to you to do any assignment any mission it's not because you in and of yourself are equipped for victory no the victory belongs to him and he is going to work it out he simply delights in using his people as vessels and that's what he's going to reveal to Moses so Moses says you know Who am I that I should bring forth the children of Israel and the term here is the sons of Israel I believe it's inclusive it means both male and female but the term son is here as I've shared numerous times before because son speaks of heir and inheritance and they are going to this call to bring them out of Egypt is so that they can inherit the promises of God now look at verse 12 and see the response Moses is questioning God Who am I he lacks confidence in himself that's okay don't be confident in yourself and your abilities but be assured that with God all things are possible and that's why God responds look at verse 12 and he said for I will be with you that's all that we need to know if God is with me it doesn't matter who's against me it doesn't matter what the obstacles are it doesn't matter what the opposition says or where they are located and how powerful they may be and how much resources that they have at their disposal none of those things are oven the only question we have to answer is this is God with me and that's the promise that that Hashem said to moshe rabbeinu i will be with you and this to you is the sign that I have sent you and what's that sign when you bring forth the people from Egypt and you will worship God and the you here is plural meaning Moses and the people you will worship God we're upon this mountain and I would suggest to you that this promise well it was was personal to Moses Moses I mean the implication is when he experienced God he had never had an experience like that before and therefore it was something that was was meaningful to him imagine that meeting God hearing his voice seeing his power a personal revelation between you and God how wonderful that is and God is saying if you submit that not only you but the people you are going to worship me upon this mountain he is going to bring back Moses and the people to this mountaintop experience verse 13 and Moses said to God behold I come to the sons of Israel now it's in the depressant he says you know if I go that's the implication I'm coming to the children of Israel and he says I want to know something if I come to the children of Israel and I will sit into them the god of your father's now what we find here is something very important Moses said to God behold I'm coming I'm coming to the children of Israel and if I say unto them the god of the father's has sent me they're going to say to me what is his name now this is important and it shows a spiritual maturity Moses is right because they have heard all people have heard about God's not too long ago my wife and I we were in Asia and we were getting some information about the country that we were in and they were saying how many different gods that that this nationality this ethnic group that they have the number was was staggering so people heard about God but what's important is the character of this God it is unique because he's really the only living God not some Idol not some creation of man all other religions creations of men only this book reveals the revelation of God so Moses saying you know if I go to the children of Israel whom should I say when they asked me what is his name what am I to say unto them verse 14 now this is where it gets very significant and this is where a lot of English Bible and other languages as well they miss under standard they do not translate and it's not difficult Hebrew it's easy Hebrew what do we read verse 14 and God said to Moses vile mare elohim el mache a hey'yay a share AAA which is the word to be in the first person singular it's simply not I am but I will be who I will be now what is he speaking about here I will be whom I will be notice clearly in the text there is an emphasis on the future let me share with you something if you are going to have a walk pleasing to God if you are going to grow spiritually you're not going to do so if you only focus on the past if your life and your thoughts are about then or even today no you need to be future minded and another week we can say that is to be Kingdom minded because the promises of God his covenant blessings are are in the future they are found first and foremost in the kingdom of God and this is one of the reasons why God reveals himself in this manner I will be who I will be and you shall say thus to the children of Israel I will be has sent me unto you and the term here is a yay now why is that important because God wanted Moses to convey a future reality that they believe in a future hope and when we look in the New Covenant we see that same truth that it's hope a kingdom hope a future belief that is going to produce faithfulness in the person it's not just based upon what God has done but the motivation the encouragement the exhortation is in the future promises of God we see that in the new we see that in the Old Covenant so Moses is supposed to say a hey a I will be not I am but I will be has sent me unto you now why it's translated I am in so many English Bibles I believe it just shows that it is very hard for humanity to live outside of what he can see what he can can't anticipate we have kind of a now theology what is God doing now for me what am I going to get today but that's not faith faith is being able to live obediently today for the promises of God not necessarily tomorrow or next week or next month or next year or next decade no what motivates us is the kingdom that future establishment of the kingdom and what he's showing here is there's a connection between Redemption and that's what Moses is called to be the first Redeemer to give the paradigm of the work of Messiah that's what we're going to be learning in the weeks to come so Redemption leads to a future hope and that's one of the reasons why what are the most important biblical doctrines is that of the Blessed hope a blessed hope for the future and that future belief is going to impact how I live today tomorrow next week next month next year until the fulfillment of it look now to verse 15 and God said more unto Moses he says thus you shall say to the sons of Israel the Lord the God of your father the God of Abraham the god of its the god of Yaakov has sent me unto you and this is my name for ever now this is so important we see a couple different things whenever I hope this is redundant to you whenever the patriarchs are from yet Scott Yaakov are mentioned we should think about faith and faith specifically in the covenant Allah promises that's what made these men different made these individuals pleasing to God but notice what he says here he says and this is my name for ever and the phrase here is a schmee lay Allah now Leola can mean forever alarm can be world but it's also a term for the kingdom and I would submit to you that this phrase has Kingdom implications to it that this is my name forever when we think of forever we don't think of this world forever is a kingdom description so Kingdom implications and a kingdom perspective is given now look at the end of verse verse 15 phase a xiri lay door of a door now most Bibles they they do pick up on the word Zachary which is a word for remembering it's probably best translated a memorial my memorial now it's a remembering now if you use a very poor and I would even go so far as to say a wicked translation I'm speaking about the NIV now I remember one time mentioning about my total contempt for this translation and the congregation one of the leaders there said you know that's insulting because that's the Bible that our congregation recommence well that's sad that is highly unfortunate because it is an exceedingly poor translation in fact if you look at the NIV it doesn't even deal with the the Hebrew word here Zachary you will not find it they just ignore it why because it's not a translation it is a paraphrase it is not something that follows word by word but just general ideas now does that mean every verse in the NIV gets it wrong obviously not but too many of it get it wrong and too much of the Word of God is ignored if you're using the NIV get rid of it don't give it to someone else get rid of it by a literal translation notice what it says here very simply in the verse fifteen vis a zippe this is my memorial for generation and generation now what's he saying here the word this core that's where the term to remember or a memorial or in this case my memorial it is a covenant 'el word what God is saying here and we learned this earlier on God is saying that I remember my covenant from one generation to another and it's only when we are a recipient of God's covenant 'el activity that's when blessings are going to be experienced that's where power is going to be manifested and shared that's when illumination is going to be given so God intends a lot when he says here and this is my memorial maybe my memorial name the name that you need to remember throughout all your generations verse 16 he's still speaking to moshe rabbeinu that is moses our teacher he says go and gather the elders of israel the leadership now this implies something it implies that even though the children of Israel we might say the Hebrews they were so journey in Egypt and they had been there for for many generations but yet they did not assimilate entirely they still had their own elders so God instructs Moses look again he says verse verse 16 go and gather the elders of Israel and you shall say unto them the Lord the god of Our Fathers has appeared unto me the god of Avram its and yakov saying I will certainly now this is the word pakoda picada t it's the same word repeated twice in two different grammatical constructions which means I will certainly visit now this word pay cuff Dalit it is a very important word it speaks about God well in modern Hebrew and he would say love Keith kesef fish fish bone chili which means I want to deposit money in my account so this word Pecos don''t can mean to deposit but here's the biblical the biblical understanding it is saying that God is all in he is going to move mightily in a situation now that can be to visit as in this case for the purpose of redemption deliverance bringing the people out revealing himself to not only the Hebrews but also the Egyptians and all people who are in that win God is going to move mightily one of the ways that I like to think of it is that God when this word appears in the text God is saying I'm all-in I am participating fully in this and what I mean by that is God's going to do what's ever necessary for what he wants to accomplish to be a cop so he says look again middle of verse verse 16 I will certainly visit you Viet Hey asou ela can BAM it's right and and this is this can understood in two different ways it could be saying that God knows what has been done to you in Egypt speaking about the Hebrews he is going to visit he is gonna move mildly because he's aware of what's been done to you meaning the Jewish people in Egypt for this reason that he appeared to to Moses to fulfill remember the context speaking about the patriarchs that he's gonna move mightily he has appeared to Moses to let them know that God is going to to renew his promises his covenant promises to the people once more now there's another way of understanding it God says I will certainly visit you and hey a soui let him I will have done to you in Egypt meaning this I am going to move mightily to accomplish what I want to do with you in Egypt and what does that bring you out so God is as I said all and to bring about his purposes verse 17 God is still speaking he says and I say I will bring up you from the afflictions of Egypt to the land of the Canaanites the Hittites the Emirates the Perizzites the Hivites and the Jebusites so God saying here and it's an important term this phrase I lay at camp I will bring you up now going up is significance I began our study by talking about a call Paul mentions and again I I speak this frequently the Apostle Paul mentions this upward call and I usually speak about that as being given a different perspective so God is revealing truth to to those in Egypt both the Hebrews and the Egyptians will see that in the weeks to come and the purpose is to give them a different perspective so God can lift them up that he can give them his perspective a heavenly perspective so we read here God is promising and say I will bring you up from the afflictions of Egypt to the land of these six nations six is important because six relates to Greece God's going to bring them up out of Egypt through His grace and give them the land of the Canaanites the Hittites the Emirates the parasites the Hivites and the Jebusites to the land that is flowing with milk and honey haven't talked about this lady lately but milk and honey milk nourishment for the purpose of growing growing for the purpose of becoming and when we become the people that God wants us to become doing and accomplishing things accomplishing the things that he wants to accomplish the outcome is sweet the land of milk and honey verse 18 and they shall listen to your voice and you shall come you and the elders of Israel to the king of Egypt so he's promising the people they're going to hear and respond to your voice what you say it is going to impact them and you and the elders you are gonna go and you're going to speak notice what he says to the king of Egypt and you shall say to him the Lord the God of the Hebrews Nikora Alina I would circle that expression has happened unto us and this construction this word a happening it appears several different places in very unique locations in the scripture and it speaks about a unique moving of God to bring about his purposes what it tells us is this if God doesn't happen in a situation if there is not a divine event then then nothing's going to happen there the fact is that we left ourselves we can't bring about change so there's always that godly that divine happening and this is what God is is revealing you look again at the text and you shall say it to him to Pharaoh say to him the Lord God of the Hebrews now the word Hebrew has to do with the other side speaking about those who have come across to come across where in to that land of Canaan they come across to inherit it and now they're going back that's the implication so the Lord the God of the Hebrews he has happened unto us and now let us go and the term is let us go please the Hebrew word na is used there and it's not literally a word of a commandment but rather it is the the language of a very polite request now why is it a request well we're gonna see that the messages that God wants Pharaoh to agree to agree with him to a submit not because he has to but because he has chosen to let me give an example of what I'm speaking to you all know the verse from Philippians Philippians chapter 2 where it says every knee shall bow every tongue confess to the glory of God that Yeshua that he is Lord now God wants us to do that freely that when we are confronted with his revelation whether it's his written word or whether it's a testimony or whether it's the the speaking of the Holy Spirit God miraculously calling revealing himself through a dream or event whatever he wants us to submit and confess but in the end the Bible says every knee will bow every tongue will confess unfortunately for those who are forced to do it and that great white throne judgment it will be to no avail for them but they are going to glorify God no benefit no salvation for them but they're going to acknowledge the truth of God that Yeshua is the Messiah and here God is calling Moses and the elders to beseech not in the term of a command but to beseech notice what he says now we shall go please a three-day journey into the wilderness and we will offer up we will sacrifice to the Lord our God now here's what's being said Pharaoh is being challenged God the god of the Hebrews not not your gods that are not God's not you Pharaoh but there's someone greater the one true Living God he is beseeching you to submit to agree to participate in the things of God and that is to participate with Israel doing what God has called Israel to do and this is something that has has repeated itself throughout history and even today is the world going to submit and play a role in Israel doing what God has called Israel to do or is the world going to reject it well verse 19 and I know and the phrase here is Gaddafi which is I knew now it's hard for us to say that in in English but the implication is that God remember he's that transcendent God the future for God is now it was as much the future or the past the present as it was in the past God is not bound by time so what God saw in the future it was just a much as a reality even though it was thousands years away God saw it as though it was a reality and this is what the scripture is saying he says I know that he will not allow you who's the he the king of Egypt to go and not with a strong hand now that can mean not with a strong hand or except for a strong hand now there's two ways to interpret this number one that things are gonna happen and even with the manifestation of power Pharaohs not going to agree so even with a strong hand it's not gonna happen quickly in the short term but at the end we know that God brings out the children of Israel with a strong hand and with an outstretched arm eventually but it's not going to happen immediately and the message is this God is preparing the people you're going to and here's a very important truth he's telling them now remember the paradigm the book of Exodus gives us insight about messiahs Redemption that took place 2,000 years ago on Passover when he was nailed to that tree he shed his blood so that we might have that Redemption that Peduto the forgiveness of sins but it also reveals a great deal about the final Redemption and that is the establishment of the kingdom of God and one of the things that we need realizes this God is saying here he's preparing Moses and the people look he says they the honey yeah dotty I had known now again it makes no sense in our language but God is saying I knew this I know it now even though it's a future reality I have known this that the king of Egypt that he will not allow you to go to walk to do this and not even with a strong hand meaning it's going to take a lot be prepared and realized something what it says in the book of Acts chapter 14 it is necessary for us to go through much tribulation to enter into the kingdom of God that's true for the new covenant people it's true for the old covenant people this kingdom is not going to be established with ease for the nation of Israel that's why there's that at Sarah heliacal that time of tribulation for Jacob it is going to come about Redemption through difficulty much difficulty and much supernatural activity verse 20 and I will send my hand and I will strike Egypt with all my knife left all my wonders which I will do in his myths now notice here the phrase be whole new floaty now that's important excuse me myth low with tie that's important because it says that this is going to be a process that's going to involve many wondrous miraculous activities by God it's not gonna happen quickly secondly we need to look at what God says I will send my hand and I will strike they he Kate now usually that term for striking involves death and we know that ultimately this strike is going to be the plague of the firstborn and there's going to be much much much death in Egypt for that redemption to take place realize redemption does not come without death redemption does not come without sacrifice redemption does not come without the shedding of blood and it's a process that is much involved verse verse twenty twenty the second half and afterwards he will send you forth so God is saying it's going to happen but it's not there to come about easy not just with a strong hand it's going to require not physical power but supernatural power he says behold the flow tie with all my wondrous deeds very important that we see that it's a process verse 21 now the last two verses of this this chapter deals with something that's going to happen and this is very in this very significant in foreshadowing something look if you would to verse 21 and I will will place grace now the word is can it can also be favored he says I will place favored this people in other words God is going to put favored he is going to show us favor in the eyes of the Egyptians in the land of Egypt and it will come about that that when you go you will not go Raycom empty now what we see here is this that there's going to be and the best way to understand this is that there's going to be a payday with redemption there is going to come gold and silver being given to the children of Israel when they go forth from Egypt why Sahar what does that mean a wage now it just shows something God he is watching over all things see sometimes we think God is only faithful he's only interested in the spiritual not not the case God is interested in all things he's the Lord of all what does God reveal going back to Genesis chapter 1 it says Bereshit bara Elohim at Kagamine Bay at hearts in the beginning God created the heavens and the earth the heaven and the earth that which is supernatural and that which is natural God is over all the children of Israel they had been enslaved they have labored diligently enslave - and by the Egyptians and now there's going to be a payday the Egyptians what's going to happen well notice what the scripture says very significant verse 22 and ask a woman from your dwelling place from those that dwell with you and those that live in your house so no matter where they are those who live with you who may be Egyptians or of some other people group or those who just live in Egypt Astra met and it says here ask vessels of silver and vessels of gold and garments that you put upon your sons and upon your daughters now why are these garments well garments represent deeds in the scripture so many garments have to do with an abundance of good deeds now why is that there very simply it tells the reader it informs us of what the purpose of going forth God is bringing them forth and here's what it's saying if God is faithful to pay the Israelites their wages to make sure they get it for the years that they were enslaved he is also going to be faithful to reward us for our spiritual service in the kingdom of God and God's called these multiple garments that are upon them abundance of dates this is why the children of Israel are going forth when we read that properly it informs the reader that God's redemption is so that we can do good deeds that we can be rich in works works that God has called us to do so he says you know you asked from the women you asked from the women in your your habitations the ones that dwell in your home vessels of silver vessels of gold and garments that you put upon your sons and upon your daughters and look at the end of a mid-south Tim at mitts right now I don't know how its translated in your Bible but when we look carefully at this word Lynette cell it's a word too to exploit now what it means here is utilizing them for another purpose usually that word has to do with in modern Hebrew frequently a misappropriation of assets but here it's not a misappropriation it's simply a different use than when the owner thought so Egypt what do we know about Egypt it is this wealthy place it is a place of great abundance II and what's happening well they thought that that wealth was good to be used for their own joy but God through his work of redemption there is going to be a transfer their assets are going to be given to the people of God and they are what will here's the message because they have followed falsehood who's they the Egyptians because they have submitted to the wrong source of authority what's gonna happen they are going to suffer loss now from their mindset they are being exploited but in reality what's happening God is reclaiming that which is his and he's able to to give it to whom he wants so there's this transfer of assets and that accompanies Redemption what Redemption well at foreshadows what's going to happen in the last days one of the verses that come into my mind is that the meek and the word meek is those who do not stand up for themselves those are not concerned about their own well-being their own rights but they who are bold for truth and justice especially they are ones that execute justice and behalf of others these are the ones that the scripture says are going to be inheritors they are going to inherit the earth that's what the scripture says it's this transfer so God is promising here great things for his covenant people he's promised remember that word go back to an important phrase verse 19 Vonnie yaad aati I knew what God is saying here he knew it what did he knew it he always knew it there was never a time that he didn't know it so this is all collusion that must be played out and the question is this is Moses are the elders are the children of Israel and more importantly is Pharaoh going to be quick to obey respond based upon the revelation that God is providing and let me wrap up this session by saying this what we're going to see in the next several weeks is God revealing himself first to Moses and the children of Israel and then to Pharaoh Pharaoh servants and the Egyptians in general all those who dwell in Egypt and the question is this are they going to be wise enough and humble understand that humility begets wisdom I want to say it again you ought to write that down it is a spiritual truth it's not something that originates in my mind it's something that the Word of God reveals and that is that humility begets wisdom the more humble you are the more likely you are able to discern the purposes the will the mind of Messiah so let me conclude by asking you this what call have you received from God and are you listening are you pursuing are you tenaciously going after the will of God because you believe that and then there's a reward for faithfulness because those who aren't it's because they really don't believe God who is a hey a I will be who I will be God is a God that is all wrapped up in the future and when we are committed to the right future a kingdom future it is going to produce faithfulness in this present age today tomorrow next until the heavens open up and Messiah gathers up his new covenant people well I'll close with that until next week may God richly
