hey everyone today I'm gonna be testing every backpackers new favourite breakfast meal the muffin bomb at least I'm told it's amazing we'll find out if it is hey everyone welcome my name is Jesse and the goal of this channel is to get backpackers backpacking so if you like helpful tools and tips to make your next outdoor experience as success hit that subscribe button also before we get started I have to give a special shout out to Tony and Missy from our world outdoors they have an awesome Channel and it was definitely them who inspired this video so breakfast muffin bomb what is it let's get to it well we all know that when you're on the trail you want something quick and easy for breakfast as nice as it is to fry up some eggs and bacon in the morning when you are trying to pack up camp and start getting a head start on those kilometers for the next camp you're usually not interested in spending an hour making yourself a fancy meal generally speaking you want something quick and easy maybe even something you can take on the trail well there's nothing quicker and easier than the good old classic instant oatmeal every backpackers probably tried it if you haven't even tried it on the trail you have had it at home I even usually like taking this and putting it putting it in my mug and that way I can take my mug on the trail as I'm heading out of camp instead of having to sit down and eat it all at once but there is a downside to oatmeal it gets a little boring day in and day out of oatmeal believe me I've done it before it's a little less than exciting so I was really excited when I saw Tony and Missy from our world outdoors create something called the muffin bomb a subtle take on the classic oatmeal to really spice things up and it has gotten my brain going on how I could take my oatmeal to the next level it's really simple let me tell you how to do it first you're gonna need boiling water which I've got going on in the background right now as we speak so in a few minutes it will be ready then you need two things of your favorite instant oatmeal for me I always go the classic maple and brown sugar that's my favorite but as we'll get to later on in the video there are some really interesting mixes that you could do to spice things up and then you're going to need muffins specifically dehydrated muffins these are basically muffin croutons and I went out and I bought a dehydrator and this was one of the first things that I D hydrated in my dehydrator but the truth is you could just probably leave your muffins out on a baking tray in the Sun for a day and you probably end up with muffin croutons hmm oh that's so good the idea is you add the water to the muffins then you add the oatmeal everything gets kind of mixed together and you have muffin flavored oatmeal I mean think about it the flavor combinations are endless can you imagine getting a blueberry oatmeal with like a lemon poppy seed muffin and you get this lemon poppy seed blueberry oatmeal mmm or go with strawberry oatmeal and put a chocolate muffin in it and you've got yourself strawberry chocolate oatmeal or you could do a Banana Nut muffin in maple and brown sugar add a couple of extra nuts in there and you've got yourself some extra protein some extra tastiness some deliciousness it's the muffin bomb every backpackers favorite new breakfast I don't know I haven't tried it but I'm so excited to and I'm gonna tell you how it is okay well this is my first time ever having this and I don't know what the proportions are all supposed to be I needed about 300 milliliters so about a cup and a third of water for my oatmeal now this is where I'm a little confused and hesitant Missy says she rehydrates her muffins first and then puts the oatmeal in at least that's what I got from their video but I'm worried that that's just gonna make my muffins really mushy so I've thought about reversing it but I'm gonna stay true to form and I'm gonna try the muffins first so in here I have just under 2 cups of water which I measured out with my handy GSI and I'm gonna pour it into my freezer bag this is a medium freezer bag which I thought was perfect for oatmeal cuz I don't want a big massive freezer bag in fact I'm gonna use medium freezer bags more often okay there we go I'm gonna hold a little bit back muffins are in there looking kind of like they're getting kind of machine let's put in the oatmeal and there we go doesn't look the most appetizing right now but ooh smells delicious mushy they're still kind of yeah they actually like still dehydrated a little bit on the inside ok first official tried that last one was a little bit of a cheat as so good that is actually so good this is like dessert hmm and the muffins probably could've been a little bit more I could have kept them in there to rehydrate a little bit more but it's kind of fun because they're a little bit chewy and crunchy and mm-hmm it tastes like blueberry muffins in a bag wow this is amazing this is actually so good hmm oh I would definitely rehydrate my muffins a little longer although I kind of like the texture it's not just mush that's one of the downsides with oatmeal having oatmeal like seven days in a row you just kind of get sick of even if it tastes good you're still like it's just it's mush and so this having that little bit of extra texture hmm takes it up a notch and on top of that I've already been thinking of more creative ways to spice this up like adding some nuts just put a couple of peanuts in there I was thinking ground walnuts or almonds if you wanted to do like a a chocolate almond and maple and brown sugar so what I really love to hear is your guys's suggestions on the different types of combinations you think would taste delicious for a muffin bomb leave it in the comments section so all of us can see because we'd all love to benefit from that information I just got gooped on my hand hmm okay seriously the more that I eat this the more that I'm loving it like it is next level backpacking breakfast it just tastes so good it's like an explosion of flavor in your mouth the muffin bomb like I can't even taste the oatmeal I just taste the delicious muffin I didn't think it would make that big of a difference but it really does Wow of course the muffin bomb is the namesake breakfast meal named after the infamous ramen bomb which is one of my favorite backpacking meals to take out on the trail it's easy it's filling it's delicious I actually excited because I'm gonna do a few things a little bit different next time I make it so stay tuned for that if you have any other backpacking breakfast suggestions let me know those too I'm always interested in learning and growing and trying out new things
