hello everyone and welcome to reddit crown today we're going to have some stories from subreddit i don't work here lady but before we start it would be so much appreciated if you would subscribe to my further ado let's go first story am i wearing an orange apron i am a disabled overweight and scarily ugly looking woman i am into wood art and generally doing diy at my home in scotland i am also a british army veteran due to a back injury i sustained in the military i can't walk more than a few meters so i get around on a mobility scooter complete with armed forces veteran stickers on it front and back i'm proud to have served my local ish big box diy store famously wears orange i also believe the company is owned by the same folk that own a u.s big box store that famously wears orange i go fairly often often enough that i know where many things are dressed in jeans a floral print top and slip on shoes no orange anywhere i was down the electrical supplies aisle looking for just the right light switches and sockets for the remodel i am doing in my long hallway at home i pick one up every now and then to match with the color swatch i have brought with me to see how they look most of them i put directly back on the hook i picked it out from and others go in the basket on the footplate of my scooter also in the aisle as an old man i'd say he's probably in his 80s he is looking at the shelves but seemingly rather confused being nice i ask him if he's okay that's mistake number one he tells me he's looking for an adapter so he can plug in his electric toothbrush to charge i know exactly what he needs and show him exactly where they are mistake number two he smiles and gives me a grateful thank you and off he goes happily with his adapter and hand to the tills i feel good i've helped someone out so i go back to my own shopping or at least i try to excuse me i turn to see a young man with a handful of different switches which one of these should i use for an internal switch for an external light i look as i'm feeling chuffed with being able to help mistake number three i point to one that has a light on it so you can see when the switch is on i'd probably use that one so you know if the light is on or off if you can't see the light itself he smiles happily dumps all the other switches on a shelf and starts looking at other items on the shelves so i go back to my own shopping or at least i try to again enter karen excuse me mistake 4 yes i replied karen where do i find that stuff to put on walls to fix a hole it's down the other end of the store somewhere near the painting supplies somewhere near the tills yes but where and which shelf not sure just take a look down there a member of staff might be able to help better i need you to show me sorry just look down there i'm about to pay for my shopping but you need to show me i don't know the right stuff look down there there's a big banner by the right aisle there may be someone there who works here but you work here it's your job to help customers show me where it is and what i need me getting annoyed now it's not my job i don't work here am i wearing an orange apron ask someone wearing an orange apron they will help you i start trying to roll my scooter forwards towards the tills karen faster than a speeding bullet steps directly in my path only an inch or two in front of me now these scooters are heavy and solid and won't take damage from hitting an ankle there was absolutely nothing i could do to stop quickly enough karen shrieks karen you hit my leg you tried to run me down o w w and the tears flow her shriek alerted a couple of staff members who came running she ran me down i want the manager i want the police i want an ambulance i want her fired and arrested then a mature looking man in a suit with a large orange badge with his name and the word manager on it comes running up also alerted by the shriek and shouting manager asks what happened karen your assistant in the lazy [ __ ] chair yes really tried to kill me i want her arrested and fired and all sue the store for my injuries what assistant this lady doesn't work here she does and she tried to run me down my ankle is probably broken note she's still standing stomping around shouting and generally not behaving like someone with a broken ankle maybe a spoiled toddler though me she asked me where something was i told her where to look she got demanding and behaved like a spoiled child and then deliberately stepped in front of me when i went to leave no way i could stop in time liar you do work here i saw you helping two other people him pointing at the young man who stopped to watch the commotion yes i helped out of the goodness of my heart because i'm a nice person that doesn't mean i work here the young man yeah she was nice enough to help me i asked her because i saw her helping out an old bloke i knew she didn't work here manager yeah she doesn't let's go back to the office to talk about this then we'll see what needs doing karen and you'll call the police in an ambulance and fire her shake my head so off we go to the office karen remembers her broken ankle and starts putting on a deliberate limp on the wrong leg moaning all the way to the office about her broken ankle in the office the manager invites karen to sit i'm barely in the office as my scooter doesn't have the turning circle to get further in manager let's start with the cctv and see what happened he turns the cctv monitor around so we can all see it he pressed some buttons and ran the video back to where i rode into the aisle i'm seen looking at products i'm seen talking to the old man i'm seen taking him to a shelf and passing an adapter to him i'm seen talking to the young man and pointing at a product in his hands i'm seen talking to karen and pointing down the store she is seen looking angry with fists clinched talking at me i'm seen moving off she is seen rushing past me and deliberately stepping in my path where i obviously don't have time to stop just so you know i'm a retired police officer do you really want the police and an ambulance your ankle is clearly not broken and it's clear what really happened do you really want to get charged for wasting police time they do that these days as the police are short of manpower and won't thank you for calling them for what is clearly your own fault they may even charge you with a hate crime with what i and my staff heard or will you just leave the store and not come back karen but manager really karen wilted she stands and with no sign of a limp walks out with a member of staff escorting her meekly out i was thanked for my patience and handed a gift card for your trouble and so you're not put off using store name i paid for my wares using the gift card which covered the whole cost plus some more credit remaining on the card for my next visit i may not help anyone else next time though next story karen yells at me so i got some revenge i was walking to insert ambiguous five-pointed shape here mark it because i was going to get stuff for cake and i put in my earbuds both ears and i got to the baking section and knocked over five things of packaged cake mix while reaching for the frosting because i have terrible coordination i was picking them up and i guess i didn't hear this lady behind me because earbuds and she freaking pulled me up she started yelling at me it went sort of like this entitled person don't ignore me when i'm speaking to you if you've looked at my past posts you might think but you're 14 you don't look like an employee first off i'm tall like six foot and second off i have long hair imagine mirage from apex legends like that front bit of his hair but all over my head and enough of it was covering my face so you couldn't see it too well so tall you can't really see my face you might think i'm older than 14. she was saying things like entitled person if i'm asking for help you help me i guess she heard my music because she kinda went off i was holding the earbud that i took out kind of close to her i was listening to a song by slipknot entitled person are you listening to devil music on your job if you know the history of iowa the album based around when it came out you know that it's just adding salt to the wound ep manager yes she yelled that i remembered something i saw on reddit if i remembered the username i would give credit but i don't then the manager came over and asked what was wrong so i said me i'm sorry sir my mom has early onset dementia and alzheimer's i have to take care of her it won't happen again entitled person wait no i me come on mom we need to get your meds to the manager sorry for the disturbance she's having a hard time manager no it's fine have a nice day to karen you too miss the manager walks away karen opens her mouth to speak me sorry granny have a nice day she huffs and walks out i get my cake stuff pay and leave i felt satisfied like when you get to throw a knife at general shepherd's face in mw2 next story woman berates me at 3am for not doing my job so i was working at a supermarket doing night fill stocking shelves after hours one night we ran super late as we were short staffed i didn't finish till about 2 30 a.m after i left the only place open for food was a 24 7 fuel station across the road that had a subway so i said hi to the staff i was a regular and got my sub and put in my headphones while i ate i was just kinda zoning out as i had just finished a nine hour shift so i was a little slow a woman came in and went up to the fuel counter the server was not there 3am they have a bunch of other jobs to do out back and they have a buzzer on the counter so she's obviously seen me and moves closer i'm oblivious to listening to my audiobook i look up when she's towering over me glaring she says something i take my headphones out me sorry her i don't mean to interrupt you me uh okay now she's glaring full force i need you to do your job i don't care if you're on break uh what still foggy i need you to get off your butt and do your job she screams finally i get what's going on i lean back and point to my shirt logo i don't work here i'm from the supermarket across the road don't give me that bullcrap i'm in a hurry now to do your job by now the server has come back to check on the noise server hey up is everything okay me ask her she does an actual double take she goes a bit red but rallies herself and glares at me again she pays for her stuff and then in a loud as hell stage whisper says what's he doing here at this time of night suspicious if you ask me then she leaves the server shakes his head and we laugh it off but the best part is a few weeks later same scenario at the same petrol place i'm eating but more alert she comes in sees me eating and goes red me hey server that crazy woman is back i then nod at her me can i help you with anything ma'am i don't work here but i know how upset you get with the truth so maybe i can pretend do some role play if that would help the server comes out she buys some gum and leaves never saying a word her face bright red next story i don't work here i work in that points ambulance years ago in the early 2000s i was working 24-hour shifts on an ambulance since we were working these extended shifts we had a kitchen and whatnot at our station so if we didn't have a call right at the beginning of our shift after our rig and equipment checks the first thing we do in the morning is our grocery shopping for the day now just to make sure it's clear that there's no possible way for us to be mistaken for the uniform of the store employees we wore blue button-down shirts had a patch on one arm that said state of redacted and our certification level either emt basic or paramedic and on the other arm had a patch with our company logo on it we had dark blue pants with about half a million pockets radios on our belts etc the grocery store employees uniforms were either a white or tan shirt and black pants and usually some type of apron with the store logo the last bit of info i should add is that the area we worked in was one of the richest neighborhoods in our metro area and usually the cheapest car you saw in the parking lot was alexis so now that the stage is set comes our adventure my partner and i were at the store doing our shopping for the day and it was a relatively quiet sunday morning other than us there were only a couple of other shoppers in the store and several employees were plainly visible doing their morning duties i'm busy trying to decide if i want link or patty sausages for my breakfast when i hear the classic ahem i'm pretty engrossed because let's be honest it's an important decision and now i'm weighing bacon into the mix too and i really don't pay too much attention then i hear it again accompanied by finger snapping i'm broken out of my sizzling reverie by this and think maybe i'm blocking someone's access to the cooler turn around and there's this lady in her 60s dressed up way too fancy for an early sunday morning grocery run and she's glaring daggers at me i'm sorry ma'am am i blocking your way no i need can't remember the exact item she's looking for i'm sorry ma'am i'm not an employee here i work for redacted the ambulance company however i've seen a couple of employees a few aisles over i'm sure they'll be happy to help young man you will do your job i need you to find item for me ma'am again i'm really sorry but i do not work here i work on the ambulance you had to walk past to come in we always park right up front in case we get a call now i apologize but i need to finish my shopping so we can get back to the station quote i reach into the cooler grab a package of bacon because bacon always wins in the end and plop it into my basket turn and start to leave and this crazy old bat decides to shove her cart in my way to try to block me from walking away from her young man my husband is named that apparently she thought i should recognize and my shopping here pays your wages do your job and help me now between the crash of her cart hitting the cooler and her escalating tone of voice we've thankfully caught the attention of one of the store employees they come around the corner and turns out it's the store manager i recognize her because we've run calls at this store before mrs please calm down and i'll gladly help you she's getting wound up to start yelling again and about that time my radio starts going off when we're assigned to a call it starts beeping very loudly i silence it turn to the store manager and apologize to her for running off and leaving my groceries in the cart but we're getting a call and i have to go she's very understanding and as i'm walking off i hear the old bat asking yelling at the store manager where does he think he's going i need this item and her reply presumably to his ambulance to respond to that call since that's his job next story no man i don't work here my boyfriend and i went to a random walmart we never have been to this one before but went to get dinner he left his cell phone in the truck so we decided to meet at the front i was waiting for him to dress in a leather jacket crop top and jeans pretty sure this is against walmart's employee dress code a random guy comes up to me asking do you guys hand out masks or something beyond confused i answered i don't work here man he laughed that's funny like he thought i was joking i said no man i don't work here he was still laughing like i was joking then he said alright i see you and walked away i'm still so confused next story lady followed me around mistaking me for a target employee this was last year over the summer not recently i went into my local target after work i was wearing my typical office work outfit black short sleeve blouse black pencil skirt and black tights at first i was just browsing the women's department aisle i didn't need a cart because i was only there for a charger but you know target sucks you in until i heard an excuse me miss i look over my shoulder to make sure i'm not in anyone's personal space i wasn't and noticed a lady i definitely didn't know waving in my direction and then back towards the rack she was at i figured she was calling an employee and ignored her i continue walking and turn the corner passing the men's clothing and i hear ma'am same lady but this time i don't turn around in my mind i'm like i don't see anyone else and i feel like she's talking to me but i know i didn't drop anything because i have my phone card and keys i just start walking faster until i get to electronics dipping into the phone case wall as i get to the end of the aisle the lady appears pissed off i realize she's definitely talking to me she throws her arms up and goes didn't you hear me calling you i called you several times i need help in getting ready to wear where you just were the nerve she was literally scolding me my turn to get annoyed i respond are you effing kidding me i don't work here she looks at me like i'm lying so i go i'm legit wearing all black and the employees wear red and khaki seriously she goes well how am i to find what i'm looking for then still expecting me to help her i just walked away because she definitely was not getting it she made a comment about the employees being rude to her referring to me i never found out if she got the help she needed lol the funny thing is i got mistaken for a target employee on several occasions after that i don't know
