and now without further ado let's go [Music] first story don't mess the sweet old lady's cat when the neighborhood has a kid who knows everyone a little about me first i was a scrapper as a kid and knew everyone in the neighborhood i made money babysitting kids and knew the older kids because i was permitted to roam i am also one of those people that people will tell their darkest secrets to and i have earned a lot of trust in my neighborhood i was a pack leader and people generally did what i said okay enough about me onto the revenge this is a bit of a long one but you'll enjoy it this is an old story back when i was young i can't remember the exact age but it was around 9 or 10 which would be the early 90s i lived in a small neighborhood there were not many kids and the ones there were mostly older teens the brunt of the community was older people the neighborhood was built in the early 40s and filled up with people after world war ii and many of them stayed there on the block south of me was this old jerk who pretty much hated everyone if something that was a kid's like a ball or a frisbee and the kid asked for it back he would destroy it right in front of them one time a kid parked his bike in the swale city owned property that was outside the home and this jerk took the bike and destroyed it this jerk has a major vendetta against cats we did not have a feral cat problem but many people including my own had cats that were indoor outdoor we were not on the main road and there was little traffic most of the cats didn't go far from home usually just went out chasing pigeons and the few garter snakes that were around they always came home at night unless they ended up in this jerk's yard he started by trapping cats and taking them to the pound many families in the neighborhood would get calls about their cats being turned in and having to get them my family who were well known at the pound my mother was an animal lover to an annoying extent and we were there often would get calls to inform us that one of our cats was there when the jerk found out that trapping cats wasn't getting rid of them as when he escalated he started poisoning them but many lived because the symptoms were caught early enough he was using antifreeze so he escalated again and that is when things got serious suddenly cats all over the neighborhood were dying and no one could figure out why it wasn't until the cat of a sweet old lady got out of the house she was indoor only but got out during a package delivery three days later the cat showed back up sick and dying this woman was not poor and this was a costly cat angora i think maybe persian it was a white fluff ball and this woman loved that cat she took the cat to the vet and it was determined that the cat had a belly filled with glass shards but the damage was too massive and the cat died while at the vet's office this woman was furious this got around to the neighborhood and it was me who told me that i thought i knew who did it i thought this because since my mom and i were frequent visitors to the pound they said my mother who it was that kept bringing our cats and with a little prodding we found that all the cats that came from our neighborhood were brought in by the same person i told this wonderful older woman who i thought did it and she was a pistol she got in her caddy and rolled up to this jerk's house and confronted him i was a bit of a free roam kid back then and had to be home by the time the street lights came on so i made sure to ride my bike over to see what the fireworks would be like she rolled up and pulled in his driveway got out of the car and pounded on his door i mean pounded the jerk opens the door and she begins softly saying that something terrible has happened to her cat and that she was just going door to door trying to find out if anyone knew what happened the jerk responded with the hmmp reaction i wasn't close enough to hear everything that was said because of this jerk's hatred of children but i was close enough to hear what happened next sweet old lady went from zero to witch in 0.0000001 seconds she poked her finger in his chest and said i think it was you you craggy son of a witch i know that you have been taking cats to the pound and i bet you are the one that killed my princess yeah that was the cat's name this jerk just smirked and said yeah glass and cat food and some catnip will always work to get those destructive beasts out of the neighborhood i will keep on doing it and you can do nothing to stop me sweet old lady hauled and slapped him across the face and turned around and walked back to her car i was good friends with sweet old lady and often spent time at her house after school because she was alone and needed some company she was always very kind to me when i went over next i asked what happened after she left she told me she called the cops but without concrete proof there was nothing that they could do when they spoke with the jerk he admitted trapping cats and taking to the pound but never said anything about the glass the sweet old lady was beside herself because she wanted justice for her cat i got an evil grin my face and said don't worry you'll get justice she looked at me and smiled and nodded her head you see this all happened in the first part of october i knew just about every kid and teen in the neighborhood free roam thing and i told all of them what happened the total was about 20 kids teens that i said with about 12 of them being teens who could drive and had their incomes i told them all that i thought we should do i laid out the entire plot and we all worked to get the things that we needed when halloween rolled around i was unfortunately not able to fully participate in this because i sadly got grounded for getting into a fight with a boy in the neighborhood i broke his nose but he tried to attack me so i wasn't going to stand for that still i did find out about the aftermath on halloween night about 15 people late in the night converged on the jerk's house as luck would have it he was not home at the time his car was still there but a neighbor relayed to the group that he had left in a car with someone else the group shattered every window and mirror in his car once the windows were broken they opened the door and destroyed the interior they poured sand in the gas tank and did something to the engine block don't remember what they broke every window in the house including a sliding glass door in his backyard all screens were shredded and they put super glue in all the door locks and super glued the mailbox shut once the screen was torn they gained entry they did not steal anything but they destroyed the inside of his house they spray-painted everything including the words for princess on a wall inside the home polaroids were taken and i got to see the destruction this from what i was told took about three hours in total and neither the neighbor next to him or across the street said a damn thing or called the cops the group left and went back to their homes like it was just a typical halloween night i found out from the neighbors i was very well known in my neighborhood and people tended to tell me things with ease that the total amount of damage was around twenty thousand dollars this was 1990-91 so a ton of money and it seems that the group destroyed some very precious things that he had now the one thing that they did that i am not proud of is that they dumped the urn that contained his late wife's ashes i think that this was a jerk move but i still believe that he deserved it this jerk was furious but no one saw a damn thing it took him about a year to get everything fixed he told the neighbor that his car insurance would not cover the damage to the car and he had to buy a new car and the car was one of those old lincoln land boats that probably added another 15.20 k onto the total police were called but there was nothing found this was before dna and all the fancy csi stuff so it was pretty dust for prince and to be on their merry way he tried to go after sweet old lady but it fizzled there was no proof she had anything to do with it the great thing about all this there was never another cat that vanished from the area the jerk died about a year before i left the neighborhood at 18. from what i heard from a neighbor he was raging about what happened to anyone who listens once i was able to roam again i was able to get the polaroids from a friend who gave them to my mom in a sealed envelope i went to sweet old lady and showed her the pics she just smiled and gave me twenty dollars she lived for another three years she was wonderful during that time i wish i still had the polaroids but they were lost when i moved out from my apartment next story best college guest speaker ever misery loves history when finishing up my degree in criminal justice we had to learn about how the justice system works and how sometimes it doesn't for about two weeks we studied a case from the early nineties of a woman that had killed her husband the setting was small town iowa and the husband was the town drunk everyone in town knew him for being drunk a brawler and overall just a bad person his wife was the stay-at-home mom as she wasn't allowed to work or leave the house aside from getting groceries he would go home beat her and violate her and the cycle would go on and on and the whole town knew neighbors were a quarter mile down the road but still would call the police when they heard noises it was well documented and because he was never a threat to their daughter the police did nothing aside from take him to jail like a revolving door each time he got out he'd beat her up again their daughter was away at college but came home for thanksgiving while the father was at work the daughter told the mother that her father had abused her and that she had even had an abortion because of it this was the breaking point for the mother she got her revenge 100-fold when the daughter went back to school after the holidays and the husband came home she killed him with his gun at the kitchen table the table is important because it was a big farm table used for chopping up deer and other livestock doing the butchering was her job and she was good at it the case report has pictures of the table and clear marks of chopping she chopped up her husband and scattered his body over neighboring farms fed which he could to her livestock and cleaned up months went by and winter came and left police investigating his disappearance even questioned her while sitting at the table drinking coffee she explained the marks on the table by explaining that she butchered her own meat and showed the officers her deep freeze the investigation went on for months until finally a neighbor's dog brought back a body part they identified it as belonging to him and she was arrested on the spot she pleaded not guilty and refused any offers it went to trial and 12 of her peers judged her not guilty due to extenuating circumstances she confessed to the crime explained why she did it and how in that she had no real choice because no one was going to help her the farm was hers and she refused to give it up as it had been her family's home she was let go entirely for the murder charge the next week we had betty as a speaker to the class to discuss the case next story shot up house is the price for screwing with retirement sorry for the throwaway but this situation is still within the statute of limitations and goes across state lines in the usa names have been changed to protect the parties that need protection and to conform with the rules of reddit backstory many years ago in rural appalachia and coal country lived a cluster of families on a hauler jim and betty owned a mobile home and had their daughter kirsten me with them this mobile home had two bedrooms and one bathroom but it was sufficient enough for shelter during the middle 1980s a recession hit appalachia hard and jim found work in another part of the country in moving he approached tilda betty's sister and larry her husband to look after the mobile home and collect rent for anyone that wanted to lease the mobile home a rent amount was agreed to and would be adjusted for inflation and the cost of living for the area the money was to be deposited into a savings account except for the money needed for necessary repairs and receipts kept jim and betty trusted their siblings with this and moved trusting that this money would be part of their retirement fund i was privy to these conversations but did not pay that much attention to them at the time shortly after leaving appalachia a renter was found and jim and betty were glad to know that something was coming about from the land in their home area then mike larry and tilda's son moved into the mobile home and jim stipulated that the rental agreement did not change even with his nephew renting the mobile home after mike moved out sunny larry and tilda's daughter moved in and stayed for several years betty asked tilda several times about the rent knowing sunny was very unreliable with rent in the past and was assured that between section 8 and food stamps that the rent was being paid on time and there were no issues a few repairs had been done but the receipts were stored in the safe deposit box where the savings account was fast forward a few more years sunny finally moves out and there are a few more renters and then the taxes are not getting paid the mobile home will not pass for section 8 any longer as we jim betty and i have been told repairs had been made over the years we find this odd and inquire again to tilda who states this was all a misunderstanding once again betty trusts her sister and is relieved when we get the tax receipt in the mail this is very important later another few years pass and tilda dies jim and betty attend the funeral and betty makes a gesture to assist with some of the expenses larry agrees and betty requests access to the savings account that should have at least tens of thousands of dollars by this point not including interest to only find out it has never existed all of the paperwork has been fraudulent and or forged remember that tax receipt another forgery betty refused to fight she had just lost her sister still jim is livid as a my sonny was always abusive to me and to find out she had been living off my parents for free while receiving section 8 for rent and getting food stamps sent me over the edge on top of the missing retirement funds k revenge so knowing everything was fraudulent from the beginning jim and i attempted legal means first to get revenge on this thief we were met with walls of red tape and with states separating us it was an uphill battle with a slim chance of winning plus the attorney fees would drain any winnings and then more first i put my piece into action against sunny i filed claims of fraud against the section 8 anonymously and snap benefits given that there was absolutely no proof of rent being paid to the homeowner or the custodian larry was stupid enough not to write out a fraudulent receipt for when his daughter lived there next i filed against larry for tax evasion and social security fraud since sunny was claiming to be paying him the rent money via section 8. this was income since he was not claiming this income on his tax forms he was double dipping into the social security system and avoiding paying taxes i did the same for the time mike was paying rent although he did not claim government benefits he just paid rent the next stage was to notify their local church about the shady dealings with family their faith is big on lay ministers and credibility i told anyone and everyone i could from the church directory about what had happened i even showed the fake tax receipt the last bit was the most nefarious after ensuring that larry was visiting sunny and the house he owned was empty a rented car was used and while betty drove jim used a 22 rifle to shoot holes in the roof the ac compressor the garage doors and anything that was laying in the yard and not immediately noticeable we wanted the burn to last so no windows were shot out or anything evident from the start showed aftermath sunny is now being investigated for multiple charges or fraud her side business has been closed due to the sweeping allegations that money will not be allocated as intended her applications for small business loans and covid funds have been denied criminal charges are being whispered but i do not think anything will come about with that portion larry has been found guilty of overpayment by the social security administration and no longer receives benefits he now lives with sunny and no longer has his truck camper boat or atvs unfortunately once again criminal charges are not pending larry jr another son of larry and tilda has moved into the old home that was shot up the roof had several places where hail or other debris punched through and made it leak the siding had similar damage some of the bullets and they finally figured out what it was pierced some of the old pvc plastic plumbing he has spent a fortune fixing the roof plumbing and siding where a lot of little holes were i do not know if he has tried the ac yet and i will be delighted to find out if it malfunctions as severely as i hope and now we have reached the end of today's
