Electro and the Concept of Eternity [Genshin Impact Analysis and Lore]

[Music] the concept of eternity is a difficult concept to grasp for you humans simply put eternity doesn't exist for human life mortality doesn't allow you to grasp or sympathize with the concept because it's just impossible to consider human life is inherently transient like a bolt of lightning human life is meant to disappear but not before shining brightly in the short instance that it lived in but maybe just maybe we can put eternity in the context of something more concrete maybe instead of thinking of eternity as a time frame we can associate the word eternity with other things welcome to electro and the concept of eternity today i want to investigate how the concept of eternity is reflected in each of the electoral characters stories by making correlations and studying their history background and personality this is a meta-narrative study not an in-universe study what does it truly mean for something to be everlasting disclaimer these are all just my personal eternalized and upheld throughout their life life itself is transient yet eternity stretches things out for a long time so with that i propose that electro characters manifest eternity through the following memorabilia devotion stagnancy principles tradition loyalty and fantasy let's begin with the purest manifestation of eternity as defined by a and the writing shogun puppet a's actions also builds on that eternity she wishes to achieve the eternal prospering of inazuma and its archon eternity to a is reflected in many ways as an archon she herself lives for a long time which would make her an internal constant in innozuma's history to a eternity is synonymous to preservation uncontested and stillness eternity cannot be achieved without these three when something is eternal it is meant to stay a certain way for a long period of time without any resistance the first one is preservation preservation of life memories and especially power through the creations of her puppets when she lost her sister and ascended to godhood she began tinkering with an ancient art that birthed the writing shogun prototype puppet kunikuzushi creating a puppet an artificial creation incapable of is not living and that is why when the hearts of the people came together to show her that change is simply a part of life and that humans are meant to grow all the time while maintaining the eternity of innozuma's culture history and most of all future she too changed her perspective of eternity eternity for inazuma's prosperity was no longer the lack of grief at the cost of growth but rather the eternal identity of the nation built and further cultivated by the people's wishes ambitions and visions forming from this let's observe how the electoral characters incorporate eternity into their stories eternity and memorabilia is yai miko's form of eternity yai believes that human life is fleeting she shares the sentiment that nothing lasts forever and that's what makes it beautiful human life is so temporary that it is imperative they cherish it with all their hearts this leads them to strive for the apex of their existence to develop as fast as they can so they don't lose time it's admirable and frankly fulfilling to see humans live such short and insignificant lives yet make the most out of it but yai also believes that such human lives can be eternalized elsewhere humans may not live forever but their memories will their stories stories to her allow for a human's emotions expressions endeavors and existence to live on beyond their lifespan books and novels fictional or real capture a person's identity even if it is just for a snippet creations and works to yai are an extension of the person that made them their footprint additionally yai believes strongly that change is the only thing eternal to humans change is constant and that's what makes humans interesting in her first character's story she hints to an author that if you can create something that transcends what's cool normal or popular why go with the flow nevertheless this also reflects well in her other stories the lineage of the hakushin kitsune as well as other yokais where legends passed on for years by stories their existence and deeds in inazuma were born from gatherings and feasts where they would tell tales about their latest exploits so much so that their tales were immortalized even after their deaths into the hyakumonogatari daikai or the great meeting of a hundred tales yai was raised in a world of stories even from 500 years ago as time passed on however as the yokai who drank with them in those days disappeared amidst war and history it was only within their stories that they were remembered eternity in devotion is kudosa's concept of eternity unchanging and unrelenting devotion to something is defined as the strong desire to uphold it hence making something eternal this is best seen in sarah's actions and words eternity in her story is manifested through consistency and unwavering determination sarah is an immovable figure when it comes to her duties to archon and her family to her archon sarah is relentlessly obedient willing to do whatever it takes to keep the shogun's will unperturbed even if it means turning against her countrymen even if it means arresting those she understands are simply trying to protect themselves to her family sarah is eternally grateful for her clan the blood of the tengu runs through her veins but she lives amongst the people of inazuma city she will do her best to uphold the pride of her family especially since as members of the tri commission it is their duty to serve the people but the hardest part of her eternity is when she must challenge her own devotion when even her own fate and judy are being tested sarah has surrendered herself to the demands of her roles her strong desire of judy causing her to put down her own desires in service of a greater cause especially during the vision hunt decree in her character story sarah understands that the citizens affected by the decree are simply unaware of the almighty shogun's long-term goals unfortunately the vast ideals of the archons are too great for mortals to perceive and resentment arises nevertheless it pains her to have to fight her own countrymen yet she must continue to assist in her shogun's goal she must keep making hard decisions but there are times where she too must break like when she let the traveler enjoy mia go or when she found out her family was conspiring with the fatoui when she found out that the vision hunt decree was a conducted ploy sarah's rage in that scene truly encapsulated what happens when one's devotion is abused when sarah finds out about the clan's transgressions she immediately storms to tenshukaku only to be silenced by senora her duties and her services to inazuma are something she holds dear to her heart and she would never change them for anything eternity and stagnancy is lisa's form of eternity out of all the electoral characters lisa would be the one who truly holds the textbook definition of what eternity entails eternity is defined as unchanging yet the lack of change also leads to the lack of growth that is lisa's story she's inert inactive and incomprehensible at best lisa is a powerful sorceress that is known to be one of the academia's best scholars she was known as the purple rose she graduated after two years and was renowned for intelligence and craft yet when she returned to monstat she merely wanted to become a librarian several characters have noted lisa's somewhat lazy behavior she doesn't like to work and hardly uses her powers for anything beyond simple combat truly not the full capabilities of someone that graduated in the sumo academia albedo even questioned why she would waste her talent by becoming a librarian when she could truly become something phenomenal well perhaps it was because she is conserving her time it is unknown what happened in her past but it's hinted in an interview from march 2020 that lisa touched a mysterious book that cut her life span in half lisa also has a strange fascination about her visions and their true inner purpose something that mirrors a sentiment about the visions quite well that while it represents the apex of ambition there is an underlying cost a change that happens to the person that it's given to out of that did a strange dialogue about lisa's future courtesy of muna mona says that lisa's constellation the tempus fujit signifies that as each grain of sand falls down a moment of time of life even dies for good to stop the unrelenting flow of sand one must turn the hourglass to its side but once the sand comes to rest it remains motionless forever eternity in principles is betel's form of eternity hers unlike the other characters are much more straightforward much like a bedo has a code of conduct that she holds true for anyone and everyone she meets that is another facet of eternity to preserve something eternally you must be willing to be consistent you must understand where your morals and priorities lie and follow them without hesitation the situation might be a little difficult but you have your principles for example beto doesn't particularly like the treasure hoarders but she is willing to uphold her motto of first come first serve when it comes to treasure she will treat those in her crew with consistent respect and even complete strangers will be greeted with unbiased dignity that is what makes vado so respectable her relationship with ning guang was built with mutual trust and understanding ninguang understands that beto is a woman of principle and that if something needs to be done right beto is someone she can count on that is simply how beto is eternity in tradition is kaching's form of eternity but looking at it further tradition has a lot of interpretations tradition in and of itself is a form of eternity upholding the ideas of the previous ancestors for preservation it's a more mortal way of keeping things alive when the previous ancestors are no longer there leo passes to the newer generations thus ensuring its longevity leo as a nation closely tied with culture and religion is the perfect place of maintaining tradition couple that with it being the nation of contracts and you have a nation that also respects consistency to the highest degree but kaching's story doesn't immediately align with this kaching begins as a skeptic she disliked the idea of an ancient being dictating the continuous flow of leo when the chasing are the ones that are supposed to pull the responsibilities she didn't quite like the gods in the first place and she disagreed with ganyu's dedication to rex lapis tradition from this perspective would be the farthest from what kuching's eternity should be but if we examine how her story truly plays out we understand more what eternity and everlasting mean to her she works day and night trying to protect leo harbor and keeping its faculties alive if you look at her dialogue upholding tradition isn't really following the gods or respecting their eternal divine code but instead tradition is the identity of leo leo's culture and almost every other nation and even our own world stems from tradition and touching works valiantly to maintain the longevity of leo's ideals this is the perfect representation of how change shouldn't be opposite to eternity something can still be eternal in its essence but change in some regard this is best described in how the adept allowed for leo to be placed in the hands of the leo chasing while there is a change of authorities there is a trust that liu and its traditions culture identity and integrity are preserved nevertheless by the successors the leo achieving eternity and loyalty is razer's form of eternity when i read his story i realized that sometimes it's just much simpler not all the characters need to reflect eternity to a grand regard sometimes it's a basic as i will protect you forever being raised by wolves at a very young age razer is almost unaware of how humans work but to understand humans better he observes them in the perspective of how the wolves raised him specifically the concept of lupical razor fights to protect when he met clee and was introduced to the concept of friends he understood that friends no lupicals are meant to be protected forever almost all of his lines include becoming stronger for the sake of others eternity in this smaller regard is as simple as unrelenting and unchanging dedication razer is steadfast and his will is firm pup or human he doesn't care he simply knows that he must protect his lubicles with his life eternity in fantasy is official's form of eternity friendship and relationships are fleeting whether we like it or not sometimes people change sometimes people stop wanting to be with you sometimes people disappear from your life and that loneliness is something that haunts you eternity in amy's story is much more melancholic and stems from years of loneliness as a child she was often made fun of for being different because she enjoyed portraying princess official she would soon understand that some people are cruel and that she would never truly find solace in others of course there were those that didn't mind amy's eccentricity albeit maybe a little confused by her lexicon such people included her parents were glad to accept her creative and imaginative persona official was happy and satisfied being herself however people change and people grow or at least official was expected to on her 14th birthday those in her peers refused to accommodate her quirks and belittled her once again upset she returned to the only people that would accept official to her parents but as her parents hugged her she heard an exasperated sigh you are 14 years old now it's fun to make believe but eventually you need to grow up and put your childish dreams behind you confused and upset amy ran to the library where she would weep and it was there that she would hear the soft flapping of feathers and where she meets her trusted retinue for days to come us to delude oneself from facing a changing reality is unfortunately very real reality is fleeting transient and unpredictable fantasy is easier to digest fantasy is where things don't need to change but that doesn't mean amy doesn't accept reality perhaps she simply just wants to be who she wants to be and to be accepted so these wants manifest into oz her eternal companion the manifestation of amy's desire for two things the desire to have a friend and the desire to be understood because not only does oz understand her oz is also the way she has to communicate with others while her main body gets to be facial us perhaps is the manifestation of amy's true thoughts trying to convey what she really means all the while officials fantasy persists eternity to humans is not real the chase pure eternity is chasing stagnancy you humans simply don't have that kind of time change is the only thing that's eternal but on the other hand change doesn't immediately erase eternity sometimes to preserve something one must make necessary changes so go ahead keep growing keep changing you don't really have much of a choice anyway you
