[Applause] what's up guys welcome back to diesel creek if this is your first time joining us my name's matt this video is because my dump truck won't start i came out here to fire it up it fired up like normal and then quickly died out last time i had it running was the cold start video and it ran beautifully that day went to haul low to stone today she no go so let's get that fixed now i'm 100 certain that it's a fuel related issue because that's just you can tell it's just dying out it's starving for fuel and uh this is the lift pump right here for a primer pump and i'm pushing on this thing and i really don't feel like i'm pumping any fuel so that means we're probably not getting fuel to our filters i did check the tank it's lower but it's not empty by any means i threw five gallons in it just to be safe so yeah i think we're going to go ahead and drop our fuel filters and see what's good looking in there hopefully i can just turn these off here by hand i already have filters for this truck anyway because i was planning on doing a complete service here in the next day or two but not today nope gonna need a wrench there we go there's not fuel running everywhere so that ain't a good sign some sludge right there all right good yep that one was very low on fuel but it did have some left in it see what about this one here okay this one was closer to full yeah that one wasn't so bad so maybe that means that we're not getting fuel from the tank to the filter thinking that's what that means now why that is i don't know could be that the line is plugged on the pickup or something like that maybe we'll uh maybe we'll pressurize the tank and see if we can't force fuel up to the filters then we'll know what's going on so the way this fuel system works here you have a lift pump that's running off the side of our injector pump here and what that does is the lift pump creates a suction and pulls fuel through the fuel filters here's our fuel filter housings and then this is our feed line from the tank so there's no in-tank pump okay that little lift pump is what draws the fuel clean over from the tank to the filters and pushes it all the way up into the injector pump via this line here so what we're going to do to try and get fuel over here is pressurize the fuel tank with some compressed air and it should just start dumping fuel out over here it's pretty simple take your air blow gun stick it in there jam a rag down here around the fuel neck so we do have fuel coming out but i feel like it's not flowing like it should what i'm going to do is take off the feed line from the filter housing here and then we'll stick our blow gun straight on it and blow back into the tank and if there's any dirt lodged in the line that'll knock it loose hopefully well instead of trying to get that line off there i realized i can just come up from the bottom in the filter housing and use a rubber tipped blow gun to blow that line out rather than try and get this thing broken loose because i feel like i'm just gonna break this plastic line work smarter not harder it sounded like it passed air pretty easy i'm gonna go ahead and try to blow it back towards the filters again yeah it's coming out but i don't know i guess all i can do is throw some filters on it and try it it's all right now to save us some time i got two new filters here i've labeled them i'm only going to fill one at a time because i you know i'll spill it but anyway we can pre-fill these filters up to the top since they go straight up not on some goofy angle we can fill them clear to the top and save us a whole lot of time in the priming process and we can use this handy dandy little valve right here on the side of the tank now this is will be pulling off the bottom of the fuel tank but i've already stirred it all up dumping more fuel in there and blowing the air through the system so yeah perfectly full we got our two filters put back in place here now i've loosened this bleeder screw right here and i'm gonna go prime it from the fuel tank side with the compressed air again and we should see fuel pouring out of this thing and then i'll tighten that thing up and we'll push the plunger over here to prime it up to the injector pump and then hopefully this baby runs contact all right looking good so we got our fuel up out of here we just got to close this bleeder screw off now and prime the fuel pump okay i'm going to hit the key right now which is just going to open up this injection pump shut off and that'll hold it down like that and then we can go ahead and prime the fuel system there so so i just pushed that thing like 100 times at least and i really don't feel like i was moving any fuel with it so i don't know we'll go ahead and try and fire it up see what happens i really don't feel too great about it if this doesn't work the next step that we're going to have to do is we'll crack all the injector fittings loose up on the engine and make sure we're getting fuel out of them there uh oh [Music] that is not good you guys see how it fired right up there for a second almost sounded good and then uh just sputtered right back out i'm not sure what the dealio is there out of desperation i'm just gonna go ahead and try to bleed this thing again maybe i didn't get all the air out of it the first time okay we got it we got an improvement this time our plunger i can feel it actually has fuel coming to it we're actually making pressure now this should be good oh yeah i think we might have it oh yeah building pressure for sure oh it's getting hard to push i believe that you're supposed to just prime until you can't push it anymore same thing as before i don't understand and it also sounds like i'm starting to wear my battery down a bit i'm starting to really believe it's a bad lift pump because i've repeated this procedure a couple times now and i'm plunging away over here and it's not really feeling like it wants to suck any fuel but i i know it's coming out the bleeder ah [Music] yeah it is just not getting fuel yes i don't know how well you guys can see but there's like it looks like fuel residue dripping down the back of the injection pump here but it's also looks like it might be coming from the back of the lift pump so that would kind of explain everything if uh if that's our culprit i think i'm gonna go ahead and pull it and uh see if napa has another one sitting on a shelf so oh there it is not a whole lot to it uh some of you may remember we disassembled the one off of my international tractor and it just had dirt clogging it up and holding the check valve open maybe we have something like that going on here all right guys well it's the next day i've come out here to grab the part i need off of the parts truck that you may have been seeing in the background of some of my videos this weather is really only fit for a duck so i got the old plastic cap on nothing better to keep the rain off your head than a hard hat so basically i picked this truck up a couple months back as a transmission donor for my truck because as you may have remembered there is something going on in my transmission uh fourth and ninth something's something's going on there with the gear synchronizer or whatever it doesn't like to doesn't like those gears so this has the exact same eaton 10 speed that i have in my truck and it's got a pretty sharp looking visor up there i don't know might end up throwing that on my truck that'd be kind of cool huh let me know what you think about the visor it's also got a stack which in the pictures when i went to buy it i thought would be pretty cool to put on my truck but really i don't that one's kind of no i'm not going gonna put that on my truck got a great set of tires on it there are recaps but uh still use those for my truck this was a plow truck but that means it's low mileage i believe this truck only has like 98 000 on it or something and the worst of the rot on the cab is right here this door pretty iffy but the back of the cab and everything really not that bad apparently it had enough hydraulic leaking going on back here kept the rod at bay but the frame is what's really bad look at all that rust jacking in there between the doubled up frame rails wow so i was able to get this truck for what i consider to be a reasonable price for parts and uh that's what we're gonna start doing to it the engine does run great and uh it you know run and drove the frame is just destroyed and in my opinion it's not worth putting some frame rails underneath of it so parts she becomes you know the front clips all messed up and everything i thought that i'd be able to use it for mine if i ever destroyed mine but it's not in the greatest shape check out the inside of this beautiful rig huh look at that seat el dorado vip it really it's not too bad a seat there's air ride and everything you can see it's still got plow controls and stuff in here the old dump controls i guess they yanked off of it another miscellaneous crap in here but uh the gauge cluster is a little bit different than mine i think this truck is a hair older than mine i don't know if you guys can make that out but that's a hundred and two thousand six hundred and something odd miles for what i believe is a 1990 or 91. uh well there's a little lift pump that we're after hopefully i can get that off of there those lines don't look the best you can see how crusty this engine is compared to mine you know it's got all the salt been spattered up on it over the years so yeah well i'm not gonna say that was the worst project i've ever had to do i mean it's fairly easy to get to but it's raining pretty hard and for some reason i just detest working on things in the rain i got it loose well i got the bolts off anyway it's not loose yet oh in fact it doesn't want to come loose i might have to get a pry bar oh there we go it's coming man that thing was on there for such a little part she was golden on there real good all right there it is i did break a little ear off down here but i think it'll still work fine without that at least i can test and make sure that this is the problem before i go spending 100 and some dollars on a new one i think i need a new marker all right so i've got this is the one that came off of my truck and this is the one that came off of the parts truck so we're gonna have to change these fittings around just a little bit i think i can spin this one in and make it line up this one here this fitting might need to be switched over i can't tell there's so much junk on it so we'll go ahead and get it cleaned up so we can even see what we're working with here well i'm like 99 sure that this is the issue right now because if i pump this one and put my finger over the outlet like it would on the engine i don't get any pressure against my thumb and i should because that should be the way it's pushing fluid if i do the same test with this one i get pressure against my thumb like it's trying to pump so i think that's the problem the primer plunger thing here i believe the way this works as you like unscrew it and then it releases and you can pump it but when i try to unscrew it the cap is just turning on top of the shaft here so you can't get the plunger loose um but this shouldn't be the end of the world we'll just have to use the engine to crank over um and pump the flu pump the fuel rather than uh prime it with the plunger okay well i got all our fittings switched over so we'll go ahead and stab this thing back on the truck and hope to whatever higher power you believe in that this thing pumps fuel now you gotta push against the spring pressure to try and get your nuts started on here that's going to be fun oh wait this is going to suck but there's one on i did put some permatex around the uh the gasket on this thing too so if this fixes it it shouldn't leak anymore either i also believe this is the original pump to that other engine it's still got all the blue paint on it and it's got the bosch id tag on it there we go i hooked the lift pump all the way up again i put the outlet line back on it which goes down to this filter and then i just crack this bleeder open so i'm gonna crank the truck over and hopefully we can get some fuel coming out of this all right well we got fuel i guess we'll just keep chasing that prime so if we're getting fuel there we should be chasing it up the injector lines the reason i tap on the line after i break the nut loose is because sometimes those lines can actually be just so stuck in place from being in there so long they uh they won't bleed the air out so those few taps like that usually breaks that seal and lets the air out oh there's always something sharp in here that's going to get you oh that one was on there no playing around no [Applause] hey we finally got some fuel coming out of one injector maybe two three oh we got fuel on four just waiting on number five here crank crank one two three and four down and uh it might fire up on those four and draw the fuel in to the rest of them okay maybe it'll fire now oh yeah that thing was kicking my butt for a while i would get really irritated there i am so glad that that is fixed that was driving me nuts you know something like that shouldn't happen this is my probably my most reliable vehicle that's the first time i've ever had a lick of trouble with it but i'm glad it was here when it happened and uh yeah i was getting ready to do a season refresh on it anyway so we'll let it warm up a bit and then we can go ahead and change the oil in this thing that lift pump must have been the issue i just raised the bed up as far as i could anyway this uh hydraulic cylinder it leaks pretty good so when it sits for a long time i got to top off the fluid that's one of the things i want to get fixed on this truck over the summer packing i guess is just no good anymore and it just dribbles out of there when it sits if you use it all day every day it's not a bad leak but when it sits it really does so we'll toss some more hydraulic fluid in here real quick we'll be one step closer to delivering some rocks all right i've had the engine sitting at like 1200 rpms for about 20 minutes or so now we just uh just hit 180 on the thermostat so go ahead and back the throttle off now i'll wait a minute here and i'll shut it down but we're uh we're hot enough we can do an oil change now [Music] hope my container is big enough it's the biggest one i got here yeah i think she's pretty well drained didn't have as much in as i thought i thought that this thing held like seven or eight gallons for some reason that's what stuck in my mind [Music] so [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] so [Music] well guys i guess that about wraps up this video the dump truck is running great we are back on the road billy big rigging and uh hauling rock so anyways guys if you liked
