Disney World Introduces PAY-PER-RIDE System That Will CHANGE Everything

okay it's here disney has announced that fastpass fastpass plus and max pass will be retired and some new paid services will take their places at disneyland and disney world this is major vacation alert news and it's very confusing but not to worry we've got your back with all the info you need to know [Music] hey everybody it's aj for disney food blog the thing we've all been wondering about and kind of dreading is here paid fast pass is coming to the disney parks fastpass was a free virtual queue system open to anyone with a disney world or disneyland park ticket it's been around for 22 years and the era of fastpass has come to an end so how does this work how much will you have to pay which rides are included and what is this new system disney has come up with it's a lot to digest we're gonna jump right in fastpass is done whether it's the fastpass plus system in disney world a free service where you could reserve a time to ride certain rides 30 to 60 days before your trip the free old school paper fastpass system in disneyland or the paid disneyland max pass service where you could reserve fastpass times right in the app they are all done so in their place will be a new paid system there will actually be two separate new ways for guests to skip standby lines and reserve what rides they want to go on and both will require additional payment so let's dive into disney genie plus disney's been talking for a while about disney genie that's an app that simplifies your planning acts as your virtual personal assistant for all your vacation needs but up until now we didn't know too much about it there will be both a free and paid version of disney genie the free version will help organize your plans and offer individualized itinerary suggestions along with projected future wait times for rides help with mobile order and lots more it's going to be available as part of the my disney experience app in disney world and the disneyland app at disneyland resort a secondary paid service will be called disney genie plus this is what's replacing fastpass and max pass it's going to allow guests to bypass standby lines at select attractions by paying a base price that's going to be twenty dollars per day per ticket per person at disneyland resort and 15 per day per ticket at disney world resort basically you're paying for access to the fastpass queues for rides which are now called lightning lanes so that's right everything you used to call fastpass those are now lightning lanes with disney genie plus guests are going to be able to select return times for one ride at a time for as many of the included attractions as they'd like so if you remember the old paper fastpass system this is going to be kind of the same thing you book one ride you ride it you book another ride you ride it you book another ride you ride it like that now the service can be used in all four parks with a park hopper ticket so if you're in epcot and you hop in line for your disney genie plus lightning lane ride and you want to book another lightning lane ride over in magic kingdom so you want to book haunted mansion then while you're in line for that ride in epcot you can book your next lightning lane ride over in magic kingdom that's fine to do it can cross all parks as long as you have a park hopper now for those who use the old fastpass system or have experience with max pass and disneyland this is going to kind of be familiar the reason why disney's doing this is because they got a bunch of feedback from guests that they didn't like planning their fast passes 60 or 90 days or 30 days or whatever ahead of time they wanted to just be spontaneous and make decisions when they got to the parks so that's sort of why they've made this you make the decision in the park versus planning ahead now attractions in the base priced disney genie plus have not been officially announced but we have heard directly from disney that they will include attractions like big thunder mountain railroad millennium falcon smugglers run and haunted mansion among many others so in total disney genie is going to be available for more than 15 attractions at disneyland resort and over 40 attractions at disney world so if you pay that base price you can use the lightning lane line for 40 attractions in disney world and use the lightning lane line for 15 attractions at disneyland now you can purchase disney genie plus in advance for all of the days of your trip but you can only book attractions on the day of your visit starting at 7am at disneyland guests can make their first disney genie plus selection once they're in the park okay so that's disney genie plus the base price level now of course there's going to be another potential up charge that you can take advantage of the disney genie plus popular attraction upcharge there's really no name for this they're just sort of calling it individual attraction payments now if you want to ride disney's most popular attractions without a weight there will be a second up charge which is separate from disney genie plus that will allow guests to select return times for a maximum of two specific more popular attractions so let me break that down the most popular attractions in disney world will have their own prices they're not included in disney genie plus you have to book them separately and you're allowed to book two of them per day so let me say it one more time the attractions featured in the two paid options are not the same if you want the 40 kind of not as popular attractions you'll buy disney genie plus and you'll get access to all 40 of those in disney world for example if you want to ride the most popular rides in disney world then you have to pay per ride basically now the price for the ride a la carte option the pay-per-ride option will vary depending on the date the attraction and the park which means the more in-demand the ride the more it's going to cost you to ride so if you want to ride rise of the resistance on christmas day that's going to cost you a pretty penny if you want to ride something like seven dwarfs mine train on you know a random tuesday in august then it's not going to cost you as much so what that basically means is that yes there's surge pricing now to ride your favorite disney ride so this system the second payment system is similar to what we saw introduced at disneyland paris where you pay a fee to use what was essentially the fastpass lane but you pay just for that individual attraction so far we know that seven dwarfs mine train at magic kingdom radiator springs racers and web slingers at california adventure rise of the resistance in hollywood studios and disneyland and remy's ratatouille adventure in epcot will all be included in the popular attraction upcharge that individual pay-per-ride system disney's going to release the rest of the attractions in this group later in this year as well as the rest of the attractions in just the disney genie plus base price list now even if you pay for disney genie plus you will not get access to lightning lanes for the most popular rides and you can pay for those rides without buying disney genie plus disney's indicated that virtual cue boarding groups will continue for free for all guests to ride rise of the resistance but if you do not get a boarding group you can try to get a spot by using the paid individual attraction selection option the same is going to be done with remy's ratatouille adventure by the way in epcot that's going to use a virtual cue as well it'll be free to all guests when it opens but when the individual attraction purchases in disney genie come online you'll also be able to pay to schedule a ride at that attraction so you can buy two of these a la carte popular ride lightning lane passes each day the two rides can be in different parks if you have a per copper ticket but it can only be two per day also this is really important note that you don't need to buy disney genie plus in order to use the individual attraction payment paper ride service if you just want to ride rise the resistance and you don't care about anything else you do not need to purchase disney genie plus to ride that you only have to pay the individual cost of that ride hope that makes sense that's a little confusing now these individual attractions can be booked starting when the parks open unless you're staying at a disney hotel though staying at a disney owned and operated hotel the walt disney world swan and dolphin resort and the shades of green at walt disney world resort will be able to make their first individual attraction selection at 7am each day even if the park's not open yet so this gives you a jump on everyone else when booking those popular rides now how does it work for pass holders well disney world passholders and disneyland magic key holders will have full access to the free disney genie service just like everybody else and they can add on disney genie plus and or individual lightning lane selections on the day of their visit just like everybody else there has been no mention of potential discounts for passholders no special access disney has alluded to special offerings that may be available in the future but as of right now pass holders and magic key holders have the same disney genie and disney genie plus experience as everybody else so what else do you get with disney genie plus if you pay for that base price disney genie plus on a day that you're in the park well at disney world disney genie plus will also include photopass augmented reality lenses at disneyland your purchase will include disney photopass downloads from that day by the way disney world is not offering that perk you'll also get access to some special audio experiences in the app that will feature imagineers and special guests what does that mean i have no idea now remember you don't have to buy disney genie plus or individual ride passes at all keep in mind rides will continue to offer standby cues and virtual queue options for guests who don't want to use any of these paid options if you just want to stand in the standby lines if you want to try for a rise of the resistance or web slingers virtual queue access in the morning you can absolutely do that you don't have to pay anything you can still ride all those rides and you can continue to visit the parks and just wait in those standby lines you can also use the disney genie planning service for free if you want disney genie plus and or individual attraction selections are completely optional you can do none of these you can do all of them you can mix them up it's up to you you have more options with this system than you ever did with fastpass but are they better options that decision is going to vary a lot and there won't be a single right answer now i know all of this is very very confusing we just kind of stared at the wall
