greetings Guardians my name is B here so it's  taken long enough but I finally got the chance   to finish salvation's Edge and wow what a raid  just wow now this video today is scripted but   I did let myself flow onto a bunch of different  tangents as I was writing it because well this is   all meant to be about my thoughts and the entire  process of this video meant that I needed to be   able to explore everything a whole lot more so it  is a little bit more rambly particularly towards   the end that being said I will soon return  to my process of doing usual videos on the   raid unfortunately there is probably going to  be a while before I finish everything on this   because well there's a bunch of stuff where I'm  missing the full context in particular we've not   been able to unlock all of the law from The Raid  via the law books but I will get there I promise   this is a pretty big video for a first impressions  kind of thing and I don't really think First   Impressions is really the right term for it maybe  overview I don't know we'll see what happens when   it comes to the thumbnail and title but I wanted  to give everyone a proper look at the raid and   from where I see it right now it is mostly pretty  spectacular but there is one absolutely glaring   thing that I need to talk talk about at the end  so before we progress a few things one I'm going   to talk about things encounter by encounter before  talking about other more specific stuff like the   environment the law book voice acting Etc two  there will be spoilers duh go play the damn   raid already or watch someone else play through  it stop why are you watching this three I'm going   to talk about some things that have me pretty  concerned at the moment because as marvelous as   this raid is as incredible as the experience of  fighting the Witnesses I am stunned at some of   the opportunities that Bungie has missed on the  law front of things so I'm sorry that this is not   Universal praise do not take that to mean that the  combat experience of the raid is not good because   it is excellent do not take that to mean that the  environment artists did not do an excellent job   because they absolutely did do not take that to  mean that the raid loot is bad either because some   of this raid loot kicks ass but that being said  there is a massive thing that has been missing   with all of this and I'm going to talk about it  at the very end so with that being said let's   talk about salvation's Edge and starting with  encounter one and the entrance as you load in   and approach the raid I think this is unironically  perfect entrance cinematic for what this raid is   you've seen the monolith this whole time  ahead of you in the pale heart it is the   looming Fortress the Dark Castle the literal  Heart of Darkness so the first shot of ever   thing isn't actually of you it's of the monolith  and that's appropriate even when you enter frame   it's just looking directly up and this thing  is looming above you it's not even focused on   you you just happen to be there this all alludes  to one of the most absolutely wild things about   the monolith which I'm going to spoil for you  all now straight from encounter 5 the monolith   is the witness okay so hold your horses with  me because I know that sounds unbelievable   ably stupid but literally wait for me to show you  this we're skipping ahead all the way to encounter   five if you look at the witness you'll notice that  it doesn't really have feet or a determined end   point and if you keep looking straight down you  will actually see that it goes on as a continuous   torso forever if you go back down continuing  through the transition of encounter 4 to encounter   five you'll see that that large torso is actually  something that originates from from the monolith   and it goes all the way back down the witness is  the whole damn thing this whole structure is the   witness essentially the witness itself the body  that we face in encounter 5 is nothing more than   the head of a termite Queen and that makes our  climb through the monolith even crazier because   it shows that all the stuff we see in this  raid is the interior of the witness the pure   calcification of its own mind and its own belief  beliefs this makes that opening shot from The Raid   even crazier because yeah you are looking at the  witness the focus from the beginning is on your   final enemy the final foe that you will face off  against in the light and dark Saga and it's the   size of a mountain it's so large you can't even  identify that it's your foe this is only possible   because of the properties of the traveler it's  had light and darkness merged within it and the WT   has crafted itself and the landscape around it to  become something almost unassailable at the core   of the pale heart of the traveler this is the  result of the 18 months or so it got to spend   time working here uninterrupted it has literally  turned itself into a part of the landscape through   the manipulation of the light and dark when we  get to excision and there's a massive scar of   Light breaking out of the monolith to signify  our victory that isn't just because we defeated   the witness that's because we forced it to  separate from the traveler itself that was   our Victory separating the witness from the  structure where it merged light and dark to   make the final shape breaking it off from where it  had essentially become a limpet on the side of the   traveler breaking the tick from the Traveler's  back it is literally taking away a parasite and   it sounds really silly but on reflection for me  this one single detail makes this raid opening   cinematic and the transition from the entrance  to encounter one unbelievably special it also   lends context to the many things that you see on  your way there inside the monolith so let's talk   about that real quick as you progress further in  you see these absolutely enormous statues which as   we know represent the minds making up the witness  but these are different from the denter statues   that we destroy in the campaign and that we've  seen around the system these are still veiled   but they have their arms raised supporting the  architecture of the entire structure and where the   other statues were often cordoned off or hidden  each of these is Central and almost deifying the   center of the monolith there's nothing to confirm  it but the environment but I'm pretty sure these   are representations of the witness's assenting  minds as opposed to its dissenting ones the ones   who willingly make up the witness and who do  believe in its purpose and Mission they are   literally supporting the whole structure and thus  supporting the witness what's more is that Within   These statues and the adjacent structures you can  see murals and paintings displaying the histories   of the precursor peoples there are all sorts of  cool law scenes depicted on here and just in case   I miss something I'm absolutely going to go back  and record everything from the entrance and first   encounter and at a later date I'll see if there  is something that I can pull together from all of   those but even if I don't find something worthy of  a video there it's going to be great for the sake   of b-roll and just admiring the great work of the  environment artists that's gone into this 10 out   of 10 on that particular front of things fantastic  encounter one also still tries to hide that secret   that the whole monolith is kind of connected to  the witness by saying that we need to activate   the inscrutable Machinery within keep in mind we  can kind of see from what happened in vow of the   disciple that the objectives that our ghost shows  us are fed to us in real time and are based on   our best knowledge of what's in front of us we  don't get that massive reveal of the witness's   true scale until we Ascend to en counter five and  in the meantime it makes sense that this is kind   of inscrutable Machinery this is the interior of  a being that has essentially become a god and so   yeah it makes a lot of sense that this is a bunch  of Machinery that is difficult to understand and   seems to be a little bit illogical unless you've  spent a lot of time studying it and figuring out   the exact mechanics of how it works so yeah that's  fantastic encounter one is also awesome in and of   itself purely because it introduces you to that oh  so core feature of the raid the hands the witness   apparently is allowed to have almost as many  hands as it wants considering considering that   it's made up of the minds of everything that's  joined it that means that it can and will throw   hands with you as much as physically possible  what I also love is that as you go through each   new encounter and see a new kind of resonance  the hands that appear in those encounters also   reflect that new resonance that's been introduced  in encounter one we have the pyramidic resonance   and the only hand that shows up is the hand that  gives the pyramidic resonance in the final fight   in encounter two we see the first appearance  of spheroid resonance and lo and behold it's a   circle sphere hand that you see creating damage  zones in encounter 2 and in encounter three we   see hexahedral resonance and lo and behold it is  indeed also matching the hand that gives you that   resonance in the final fight super cool little  detail encounter one is also the point at which   we see the resonance alter mechanics aka the great  box of donkeys but yeah okay all that nonsense   aside I don't actually quite know what's going  on mechanically with this one but there's totally   something to it when you activate your conductors  and feed resonance into the alter you give   yourself more time and prevent the final shape  from being enacted and I think the euphony Exotic   is actually giving me a bit of a theory as to why  this works in the way it does you see it described   the final shape not so much as a Stillness but as  a symphony to the witness with all the resonance   being fed back into the Altar and it hungering  for our offering the witness can do more but it   needs to organize that resonant energy back into  harmony with the rest of the final shape that's   just my guess as to why it gives you more time  but it does make me question what the switches   are and how they feed into the architecture of  the monolith and the witness and why we're even   able to tap into that res in the first place  maybe we're stealing little parts of what was   already finalized in order to feed it back into  the machine so it needs to be rearranged I'm not   sure this is all very much guesswork it could also  simply be because of that classic reason because a   video game regardless if you do all of this enough  you get to progress onto encounter 2 so let's   talk about encounter 2 the first of two great  contest filters known as The Herald of finality   and encounter 2 is one I got very familiar with  because we were here for a while on my day one   group yeah this is where our team called it quits  on contest because we were beat after 28 hours   straight it also features our first boss of the  raid now there are some really weird things to   say about this boss for sure but I want to start  off with this I know people keep saying it but   no I have no way to prove that this is tanx  so unless Bungie confirms it to be tanx I'm   not going to say that it is but what can we tell  about the herald anyway well we can tell something   rather terrifying with regards to its power it's  an elix of a high rank for sure based just purely   on the number of arms and the body structure but  what we see in front of us is something that is   horrifically chimeric in nature its upper half  reads with the red skin and the same resonant crit   spot as a Tormentor which means that it's likely  a dread and yet the bottom half of its body is   taken this is really terrifying because it implies  the process of creating this entity was involved   with some really twisted stuff they had to First  find an elix who is willing to be twisted into a   dread or possibly killed and then turned into one  after they had been unwillingly taken we're still   not sure if that's how the process works but  it seems to be that they willingly sacrificed   themselves to be a part of the final shape the  witness then raised them with both the light and   the darkness within the traveler to make them into  a dread like that but then decided to send them   into the dimension where taken or corrupted to  just make them even more powerful and steeped in   darkness this guy is no joke we have never seen a  taken dread before and that's kind of what this is   it's why I call it chimeric it's many creatures  Allin one elix dread and taken all at the same   time it's not surprising that this is a badass  boss on contest alongside his cohort of attendants   who I want to scream expletives at until the  day ends but let's move on from that outside   of contest they are a bit of a joke the fact that  he is taken also seemingly implies something else   about his capabilities something that was made  all the clearer from Sloan in the season of The   Deep her partial taken infestation allowed her  to tap into the communications of zor's forces   and her taken in particular it allowed her  to monitor troop movements and commands and   orders if this dread was also empowered with  taken energy then it might have also been able   to tap into the movements of the witnesses forces  allowing it to perhaps better command and direct   the movements of those entities this might be the  witness's last commander of its armies at least   those that could respond rapidly such as the taken  and who were also linked in with this network if   this enemy The Herald of finality was a leader of  the witness's army all of this does start to make   sense you just don't give the title Herald of  finalities to some random nobody you napped off   the street so yeah it's very much the case that  this could well be one of the last leaders of the   witness's forces in fact their presence in this  arena in particular seems to imply that they are   one of the witness's great supporters I don't  know if this guy was a disciple but it sure is   suspicious that we have statues of Rook nzar and  callous at each of the three sides of this arena   in encounter 2 almost implying that the herald is  standing amongst its peers no way to confirm that   but we did also discuss how the witness sometimes  Drew disciples from the worlds that the traveler   had touched so maybe this was a disciple and  they came all the way from Rees if that was so   it makes me wonder where their glaive is maybe  it was winterbite and this is the deciple that   seemingly attacked The Exodus Indigo we may never  know and I'll get to more of why closer to the   end of the video This is where my Soap Box will  eventually come in it's one of the many things   that could have been spoken about either way we're  moving on from here to go to encounter 3 aka the   one that everyone breeed through after encounter  2 for the most part and that people remember more   for what the witness says just before you  reach it this plays po to that moment where   the witness mentions the win here it is again  for those of you that missed this absolute La bomb fear answers fear the truth you claim to  seek look Beyond this dying Garden or rot in   entropy each child we save move from the game you  again Force to play you call us win we are not   but the first knife clutched in its hand Gods  forged us both but I can't tell the knif what sh so I had a few people say ah but the witness  lies why would you believe it here in this moment   and sure you're not wrong the witness is notorious  for lies and manipulation but regardless I think   if we look at the subtext of what's going on IRL  I believe that the devs knew exactly what they   were doing here in the moment of the witness's  victory I think this is genuinely it trying to   get across to you that you should come over to  its side and it speaks in a frustrated manner as   it seemingly can't convince you this is its speech  approaching what it thinks will be its Victory and   it's basically imploring us to see that we're  going to cause more harm than good through our   actions more importantly in the real life terms  I don't think the devs would choose to play with   fire like this and just jabate us because they  can implying that this is the case misses the   context of what invoking the win's name would do  and the devs have shown that they're already well   aware of the fact fact that the win is a topic  that law nerds like myself and anyone else who   caught up on this point would have cared about  to put it really simply I don't think it makes   sense from a human perspective of the writers to  sit there and invoke the win's name unless they   meant it moving on though this is also the first  moment when we start to see the corrupted Roots   roots of what well we'll learn in a bit encounter  3 is essentially the moment where we reach the   upper heart of the monolith and at the very end  of that encounter we can start to see where we   will Ascend to meet the witness at the Apex of its  power the final room of this will also be familiar   to people from the opening cutscene of the final  shape because yeah this is where the witness   stands during that cutscene in the moment when  it almost finalized Earth and where the traveler   fought back that means that the Blue Goop beneath  us is realistically something akin to the core of   The Traveler and we will travel down into it  next don't you worry if you saw my matod doxia   video the other day you might have an idea of  just how Sinister this entire point is but for   those of you who missed it please go watch it  it's really quite something the stuff beneath   your feet is quite possibly the marrow beneath  the Flesh and bone of the Traveler's core The   Traveler screamed as the witness did this to it  it is the vulnerable Center beneath everything   else and the witness has corrupted it with so  much darkness that it doesn't even look like   light anymore that's something that we can even  see as we go into encounter four Verity which I   think has to be my favorite encounter mechanically  aesthetically and from a law perspective encounter   4 is just genius and I know it was the second of  two great filters on contest mode that stopped   people in the raid but but I think if you look at  it from a law perspective it's about as perfect a   distillation as you can get of our fight against  the witness and everything that it stands for as   we drop down into encounter four we can see that  we're inside the corrupted tree of Silver Wings   inspired structure from before but this structure  is different possibly the heart of Silver Wings   as opposed to the tree I've had people suggest  that the division of the room even attempts to   pay homage to the four chambers of a real heart  both in design in terms of the overall room and   with how it splits players into four different  groups each with their own chamber regardless   it seems clear that this is currently a place of  light but at the edges of our screen you can see   what's really going on the corruption is always at  the edges of our screen and if you die as is part   of the mechanics of the encounter when you're  momentarily closer to your ghost and closer to   being one with the light into the traveler itself  you can see the true nature of the room it is a   festering Place full of corruption I don't know  it to be the case but here I think the witness   has gone as far as to actively create a massive  illusion for the whole of your fire team not an   illusion as if to say this place doesn't exist  so much as an illusion to try and show the idea   that there's nothing wrong with what it's doing  with the light n everything's fine in here see   you recognize the tree of Silver Wings this is  all normal business as usual it doesn't want us   to see its work what is its work by the way well  to see that you need to take a look at your part   in this encounter and it's here that we need to  mention the statues and the shapes you can see   you and your fire team in front of you and this  is where all of that mechanical complexity really   came in to set players back on day one but let  me tell you if you understand what I think the   interpretation of the law is for this encounter  it is BR brilliant it is a perfect distillation   of the idea of the final shape you may have  noticed that when you enter your whole team   has a set of statues one each each statue reflects  a member of your team and up at the front half of   the team gets another statue of themselves they  are holding a shape a 3D object if you're on the   outside team from where you start but if you're  on the inside Shadow realm team you see yourself   holding a two-dimensional shape the design of  this encounter is what makes this so so genius   I think the shapes that we're initially holding  in the outside room aka the 3D objects are meant   to represent our fate as the witness would put it  our final shape this is literally our final shape   our place in the witness's finality these are  the Destinies that the witness has ascribed to   each of us as our part in the final shape and in  the process of the Varity encounter we are seeing   that as though the witness is trying to present  this truth to us this idea that if we follow along   and simply accept its Vision everything will be  right as we have known it to be before but in the   process of verity we are literally changing those  shapes so that they have nothing to do with the   shape that the witness initially gives the player  in their own separate Shadow Dimension that they   get locked into between us giving away our own  shapes to our teammates inside that separate   Dimension and with our teammates on the outside  removing that shape from our own statues three   object we are once again say it with me Guardians  making our own fate let's put it this way let's   say that you are triangle when you go into that  room and the object on the outside of course has   to have a triangle in it if you need to escape you  need to remove every object that is a triangle on   the outside statue so you need to turn your  particular object into a cylinder as opposed   to a cone or a prism you also need to make a  cylinder ER as the inside player in order to   escape that shadow dimension you are literally  removing the witness's image of what you might   be from yourself and choosing to make a fate  that has literally nothing to do with its own   envisioning of you in the final shape you are  rebuking the witness's vision as directly as   you can and you are literally rebuking the final  shapes by choosing a different shape it is amazing   it is so literal in terms of the demonstration  of the narrative and yet it makes so much sense   when you think of it like that you want me to be  a square witness fine I'll be a cone screw you   it's brilliant it's so wonderful and I grant you  that's just my interpretation of the mechanics but   I think it fits so perfectly with the entire thing  that when you just sit there and think about it it   can't really be anything else even the encounter's  name Verity is a nod to What's Happening Here ver   ity means truth the witness is trying to show us  what it thinks the true form of the universe is   meant to be and we are retorting we are directly  saying no my truth is what I choose to live it is   amazing just to see that the mechanics display  it perfectly it's brilliant I love Verity 10   out of 10 I wish I could stay here forever not  literally but you get my point and when you solve   it all the core of the Silver Wing structure  immediately shows its true State the witness's   illusion is broken and you can see how defiled  the tree's interior really is how this heart has   been broken I cannot even start to describe how  cool this encounter is from a law perspective   even in just this video I think I might make a  separate video on it it's genius even down to   the fact that it uses the shapes mechanically  to represent us narratively just 10 out of   10 if I go on more about this I will stay here  forever so I'm just going to stop talking about   it when you are done with encounter four you  do start to finally Ascend to the Zenith and   it's there that you will reach and see the upper  reaches of the monolith it starts to become more   and more recognizable as a torso and eventually  you start to see the more and more pronounced   sets of hands as you rise up you can start to see  the narrowing point where eventually it forms into   the witness itself but in order to climb up you  need to use the scattered architecture and also   what's remaining of the silver winged structure  that seems like a tree of Silver Wings that has   been rising up within the monolith itself this  is where you can see exactly what the witness   has done to this place and what it has done to  the traveler by extension it is withered it is   Barren it is desiccated it has been defiled and it  is as clear as day here again this is just showing   the physical manifestation of what the witness  has done to the traveler to see the cruelty of   the witness Watch what it does to those that defy  it openly and directly how it crushed Taj how it   excised and imprisoned its dissenters the cruelty  that it showed to humanity in the collapse and now   here inside the traveler that had the gal to defy  it even once or twice its cruelty has essentially   amounted to it deciding to torture a god to  accomplish its goals this is the most direct   representation of the evil of the witness and I  don't think it properly portrays how horrifying it   is because everyone is focused on the absolutely  gorgeous Skybox it's something which is horrifying   if you think about it this is what one being did  to a God and we're about to fight that being and   then you see the witness itself it has to be said  the scale of this Beast is an awesome thing to see   when you enter encounter five and passing through  those columns showing each disciple venerating   the witness as we get to a door marked with the  guardian symbol it's basically saying you could   have been the greatest disciple of all you could  have been a god amongst the gods but instead you   have to face me so with that entrance in mind and  how absolutely mechanically fantastic the rest of   the fight is I actually have to say that when  it gets to DPS it is a hard encounter but it's   also something where I wish there was just a  little bit more now don't get me wrong it is   a Stell game experience and it is a fight worthy  of a final boss of a 10-year Saga but I'm sitting   here remembering the intricacy of encounter four  that we just got to getting to DPS is brilliantly   done as far as the resonances are concerned and  how you literally wound the witness's hands and   you need to match the resonances back into the  witness all of that's fantastic but I wish the   DPS phase was more than just shooting a big ugly  crit in the witness's chest the fact that it's   constantly attacking you in the DPS phase and  can very easily just outright kill you yeah   that's what I would expect and that's awesome but  narratively I feel like there could have been a   bit more that was done to demonstrate how we're  weakening the witness and I almost wish that the   encounter had more knives allow me to explain at  the end of this encounter we effectively separ   at the witness from its monolith and send it into  Retreat I would absolutely adore the irony of   defeating the witness by cutting it more directly  with the resonance that we build up simply because   I mean a witness keeps calling itself the first  knife what could be more ironic and what could   be more perfect than literally showing our  Mastery of a Darkness being greater than its   own and our Mastery over light being enough to  make that Victory from a dream into a reality   I'm probably overthinking it but I'd have loved  to see more emphasis on that point that we are   literally severing the witness from its monolith  cutting the first knife off from The Traveler it   would have been a beautiful poetic end to one  of the greatest raid bosses in Destiny but I   can only wish for things when we do defeat the  witness though it appropriately Retreats and   it gets its ass handed to it in excision The  Traveler immediately beckons you to follow by   the way as a massive pool of light will then take  you to the excision Mission if you are done with   your looting but there's more law to discuss so  let's start with some minor things first of all   voice acting this is another moment when Bungie  absolutely leveraged excellent voice talent to   better familiarize us with a villain that we're  going to meet in the raid this has been going   on since Destiny 2's first raid in the Leviathan  and occasionally it's Fallen a bit flat I think   deepstone Crypt is an example of this because  whilst the dialogue from Clovis is excellent   he isn't the raid villain it felt as though we  could have had a really personal encounter with   tanx if Bungie had allowed it to happen but still  I understand why narratively speaking that might   not necessarily have been the choice they decided  to make rol was an amazing use of narrative and   in appropriately sold the essence of his character  it showed him to be the Arrogant Overlord that he   he truly was the witness I'd say is not as good  as Ral but I think it is still up there it's got   all of this malice and Poise and it does feel at  first as though it's a Godlike presence it sees   us as nothing more than an annoyance a nuisance  running within its inner workings finding small   passageways through the monolith small advantages  that will maybe bi us one step closer but the   higher you go the more legitimately frustrated the  witness gets to the point where if you're fighting   it in the final boss encounter it is shouting at  you that is a brilliant Choice it shows not only   the fact that this thing thinks itself to be a god  at first but also that it isn't technically a god   yet and that it is still flawed and technically  mortal and when we face it in excision it's got   none of that pretense left it's fullon Furious  and everything that we do in the raid brings it   to that point amazing voice work is part of  what carries that feeling and I cannot sing   the Praises of it enough next holy Lord if I  haven't made it clear enough the environment   team absolutely needs another raise after what  they did with this and what they did with v i   don't think the environmental storytelling here  is as clear as it is in vow of the disciple and   I do wish there were more things that were more  clearly spelled out in the environment for players   but regardless you cannot deny that the vast and  epic scale of this raid is something something to   behold and the story beats that it does give us  looks into breathtaking fantastic the monolith   in itself is a treasure to behold and it is truly  a work of art that even the small details don't   truly tell the full story of the team should be  unbelievably proud of their work here I think no   one can deny it is a brilliant looking raid and  it also sells some of the scale of the story just   purely based on its presence in the environment  outside of the raid 10 out of 10 it is a testament   to the art team's fantastic continual work next  we should really talk about the law book and   it's here where my picture starts to become a  little incomplete you see currently you need to   pick up these finalized apples from the ground  within the raid in order to get LW pages but   at best currently there are only five that can be  acquired conventionally unless the last three are   exceptionally well hidden I think there are more  that can be garnered from raid mods and future   raid exploration so we'll need to see what's what  on that one but for the moment that's just to say   that I only have five of the eight raid law books  because I think that's all I can get at the moment   an incomplete picture to say the least with that  said what I can tell you is that the law books   are split down the middle they seem to go back and  forth between the perspective of the witness and   some of its denters each law entry is paired and  the law entries are named after rivers that that   flowed in the Greek underworld a current from the  entries I see that includes the sticks acaron and   Fon I imagine that either Ley or cockus are the  last two chapter names it's a really cool naming   convention and I think it adequately describes  this massive decision to descend into darkness   to find purpose and truth but it also at the same  time describes the absolute hell that the denters   have been through the entire book is called  Rubicon which also describes the line that was   crossed in order to make the witness very good  I'll have individual videos covering those law   books when I have a full version of the law book  itself to read however it's here that I need to   Pivot to something that actually astounds me and  I think it's the only negative thing I have to   say about salvation's Edge and it is a big thing  unfortunately but it is simply this for all of the   amazing stuff I've talked about thus far there is  not enough law now do not get me wrong I know the   WIA law drop is huge the fact that the witness is  attached and is part of the monolith is incredible   the statues and the art that is shown throughout  the entire raid sells The Narrative of the place   as you walk through it the desiccated tree of  Silver Wing structure that you climb shows the   witness's cruelty and like Verity exists it's  so cool how can there not be enough law and   it's really simple I am not referring to all the  stuff that I've just talked about that I've called   excellent The Raid is brimming with that from the  seams it is bursting I am referring specifically   to the written stuff that normally accompanies a  raid the L tabs and I won't lie this is something   that's getting more and more concerning for me  in Destiny generally as time goes on so allow me   a few minutes to get on my soap box and tell you  about this going back to Forsaken and Last Wish   every item on every class had its own separate law  tab every weapon every piece of armor everything   fast forward to vow of the disciple and it's only  the armor ghost Sparrow ship alongside the law   book that you get out of the raid and you know  what that's actually okay to a certain extent   because that was still a lot of entries if you  included the raid law book BL wish technically   didn't have one because it had the wishing wall  and that didn't tell us anything it was literally   just a few words for each one that did not give  you anything substantive law wise so so yeah I   don't count that but both of these moments are  really big moments within the entire Cannon of   Destiny riven's defeat in forsaken is an iconic  moment as is R's defeat in the vow of the disciple   these are moments that genuinely Chang the game  and they have a lot of law to accompany them that   is throughout all of the law tabs appropriately  so move ahead to salvation's Edge we are facing   the biggest bad of the entire Destiny Universe  at current this is where the universe could have   ended in fact in every encounter except Verity  the final shape is looming that is the point at   which the universe is over we do not come back  from this the stakes are as high as they get   the evil that we're facing is the arch nemesis of  all of Destiny and do you know how many law tabs   we get from this raid six the ghost the sparrow  the bond the mark the cloak and the Exotic weapon   you want to know how many times lost wish had  unique law tabs 24 times and that's excluding   law from other law books that explicitly tie into  riven's story you want to know how many times V   had unique LW tabs 18 times and granted that's  also not including shattered sons and I grant   still I think it's okay because shattered sons was  a book unto itself but this this was the witness   this was the moment to answer some massive law  questions about the world of Destiny this was the   last raid of the light and dark Saga and we get  six law tabs three of them talk about the witness   trying to persuade the Vanguard leaders to come to  its side one of them is about our ghost talking to   us and reflecting on our journey another is the  witness just being mad at its denters and euphy   is U eany is a weird little mess and I'll go  ahead and make a video on that at some point I   think it's very much literally Lost in Translation  but regardless six law tabs compared to over 20   in both vows case and last wishes case that is a  quarter of the law that we got out of an expansion   where we kill an enemy which in the grand scheme  of things in riven's case at least is not a big   deal there were so many questions that could  have been answered or perhaps even generated   with the fascinating new law and insights that  could have been written in these law tabs that   never were this is a huge opportunity that Bungie  could have taken grasp of and they have completely   fumbled it now does this fall on the head of the  narrative Department somehow I think not given   the sheer quality of writing that is on display  and yet seeing how little of it there is I think   it is highly unlikely that they somehow decided  to just not write law for this particular raid   I think that is wildly stupid to suggest it that  being said it does mean that the decision to not   put this in l with someone else because I mean why  would you not this stuff has genuine value to the   experience of the raid enter players generally  and is excellent for growing Destiny it was an   amazing opportunity to expand the world especially  to explain more about the witness to explain more   about the disciples the darkness the taken the  dread who have remarkably little law within the   game and it's just nothing when the rest of the  raid is firing on all cylinders why hold back at   the raid but I think this is something that I want  to point out because it's a worrying Trend across   the hall of Destiny the lore is Getting Thinner  and thinner lore is what Destiny famously falls   back on when the narrative is a Miss but let's  do some more comparisons here because I don't   want that statement to go without some actual  data to back it up let's take an example from   dungeons there were 11 unique L tabs in  Ghosts of the deep the same as what we got   from Spire of The Watcher and the 11 we got from  Duality 11 in each case four unique weapons five   unique pieces of armor one exotic probably a ghost  in a sparrow or a ghost in a ship something along   those lines roughly it works out to 11 bits of  LW you know how many LW tabs there were in the   latest dungeon warlord's ruin just two one from  the Ghost Shell and one from the Exotic now I   want to be really clear about two things first  of all these might be tradeoffs it might simply   be the case that this is all to do with the  fact that instead we got the in the shadow of   a mountain Quest and we got all the dialogue that  you get between Crow and Petra in the middle of   that dungeon equally this might be the payoff  for all the effort that went into the rest of   salvation's edge however I need to also make this  point really clear raids dungeons endgame content   generally these are moments of spectacle that  move the universe of Destiny forward these should   be the focus of the law not some afterthought  if I had to I would happily trade all of the   effort and time that went into the law of the  pale heart weapons for law on the raid gear to   make a full return but even then I don't think  that's a choice that we as fans should have to   make and I don't think it's unreasonable to expect  that the endgame gear in the moment when we defeat   the greatest enemy of Destiny's entire timeline  should have some lore on it a few months back   I actually looked at this entire Topic in a bit  more depth I made a video that I never released   it's still unlisted on my Channel I didn't want  to release it at the time being because you may   not remember but 6 months ago things weren't so  good and I did not want to give the narrative   team heat when they had just gone through all of  the nonsense with the layoffs I did not think it   was responsible for their morale to have me make  that video public and so I did not publish it but   in that video I made an assessment about where  the law was and how much has been put into the   game year on year and these are my findings based  on the numbers since forsaken the amount of law   in game as a whole each year has fallen and as  of the time that we entered lightfall it is half   of what we got in forsaken that went from over  450 entries in the year of forsaken including   forsaken itself black Armory Jo as wild and the  season of opulence to just over 200 entries in   lightf Fall's year that includes lightfall itself  season of The Deep Season of the Witch and season   of the wish that's across the whole of each year  granted not including the update which came with   into the light which had a few L tabs of its own  but still the number is pretty damning I also made   sure to go through and make sure that I wasn't  including junk entries like the wishing wall or   repeat entries from any source so those numbers  are a fair comparison of the amount of actual law   in the game without any writing inflation I also  took out special events that wouldn't necessarily   be classified as part of any expansion so you're  not going to see any law from the dawning or say   the Festival of the lost to be really clear  it looks from that perspective as though the   amount of LW going into the game is slowly getting  smaller and smaller and that has me really worried   at this point it got me really worried at the  point when we were getting to the end of season   of the wish and whilst there is somewhat of a  recovery here in final shape it's still clear   that we're missing a lot of what used to be there  back in the day my simple distilled thought on the   matter is this when Destiny's narrative wasn't  received well we hardcore players who propped up   the game could Retreat to the law in the law were  written the foundations of future greatness that   would would go on to define the future successes  of entire expansions the LW of the great Hunt is   the foundation of Riven and forsaken the law  of the iron Lords was the foundation of Rise   of iron the law from Call's invitations were the  foundation of season of The Chosen where we got   some of Destiny's best characters and the law of  the books of Sorrow H that was the foundation of   witch Queen the law isn't just a distraction it  is the investment of the devs into the fans so   they can invest themselves in into the future  of the franchise to fail to put law into this   raid then fails to propagate future storylines  and it fails to add more narrative context to   the greatest foe in Destiny's history this  isn't just a missed opportunity it's a wound   and we won't even know the scale of it because  it's stuff that will never exist because it was   never written or perhaps it was written and  was never added for the sake of triage I'll   put it even more simply when the EXO stranger  didn't have Time To Explain the law did please   for the love of God stop putting less law in the  game let this brilliant narrative team Cook and   they will feed the imagination of fans across the  next 10year Saga of Destiny do not let this thing   Wither in this moment of Triumph I feel hopeful  about Destiny's future for the first time in 18   months please do not let that hope be squandered  in what should be our most triumphant moment   put the law back in please so box over despite  that one major gripe that I have there is no   denying that this is a spectacular raid I'll have  more lore out there for you all when the time is   right I need to make more videos on what we do  know from salvation's Edge you can expect the   first of them to arrive somewhat soon but in the  meantime thank you for watching and for listening   to this rather long video If you enjoyed it go  ahead and
