Keith Joey and mr. baby I'm Alyssa I'm 34 years old and I am a slightly frazzled mama to three amazing kiddos I would love to be on design versus design I want to show you a couple things that I've done this is a giant canvas that I made when our bedroom needed a little pop of color and I love the beach and so this is a sign of all my favorite beaches in the area I feel like my brain is bursting with ideas and I would love the chance to let it loose on a room for you guys I hope to hear from you soon okay bye I'm so excited to meet them and I love that they are so into DIYs because obviously we'll want them to draw upon that to get as creative as possible in these blank white rooms but you know what designing a room in two days that's a big deal job so let's bring them out not only is the big deal but we're giving them a crazy twist today oh yeah let's bring them out Roisin Alyssa come on out [Music] meeting Jo NK is so cool it's like standing with creative weirdo royalty are you nervous oh no are you nervous well you guys are both wonderful obviously we picked you because you're both already really talented but only one of you can win design versus design you're gonna win a thousand dollar gift cards or living spaces and both of your rooms are alternately gonna be going to a great cause because they're both gonna be donated to a charity called furnishing Hope which is a great charity that helps furnish homes for wounded warriors and other families in crisis so it's going to be a dining room but it has to be elevated to a little bit more of an entertaining space so like either seating area included with like cocktail table or a bar or something like that sounds easy enough right well it's gonna be slightly more complicated oh no I've sort of mapped out these like hypothetical rooms in my head like living room dining room bedroom I definitely feel like I've done my homework leading up to this I've been watching all of mr. Cate shows to try and learn her tips and tricks but it wouldn't be a mr. Gaeta episode if we didn't throw in a twist oh yeah so style wise you guys are allowed to pick what style you want within the space okay that's however close your eyes don't open them till I say so we're having a listen Roisin close your eyes stick their hand into the top hat and pull out a random choice of a fun color this is your twist accent color so you guys have to use this color somewhere in your space the kind of three you'll open your eyes and look at your color I flipped the card around and I'm thinking you're gonna have 30 minutes to go into your spaces and measure and pick out any other paint colors you might want and then we're gonna go shopping [Music] friends were a big part of me in college we were doing family dinners and always entertaining each other and spending time with each other so now I'm thinking what would my friends want to see [Music] I'm getting all of my measurements figuring out where the big pieces are gonna go and trying to remember that I need to add a lot of personality need to figure out some DIY projects to bring in sort of my aesthetic Hey I'm scheming so you seemed pretty shook by your accent yeah it's probably my least favorite color of all what are your initial instincts well I'm thinking this goes nice with teal which is my favorite color Oh maybe having this be like a flower centerpiece or some small little like moment okay the judges are gonna know that the challenge was to work this color into the design so they really need to figure out how to celebrate this color in the space not just put a little dab in here there I mean it can be a dab in here or there but it has to be like an obvious dad you want to make sure you have enough of that color because the judges are gonna be judging you on that okay so I worry about the dress too centerpiece but I'm thinking kind of like accent wall and like a soft blue jean color thinking it's hall hutch here and a table going this way like a rectangle okay and then maybe a lo buffet down there where they could put drinks and stuff and then maybe two chairs right here and a table in the middle if I can cool about much yeah yeah I think my biggest challenge for the room is figuring out how to bring in enough of the yellow without it being like this primary funhouse situation you're doing well we're gonna go check with Rosie and then we're gonna all go shopping so make sure to pick out your what blue jean color and color you want from the sand dye we're gonna done send our crew to buy that color and paint while you're shopping cool got it great thank you oh boy how's it going it's going good so my thought right now is to have kind of a long dining table and sort of this happy the dining area and then have this wall maybe kind of like a fun like shelves or some way to like store alcohol and party things that you would use to entertain and maybe have some sort of like comfortable seating in front of it so it can be almost like a lounge baby I'm thinking a good way to like blend the two spaces together is this side of the table I really want to do like a lower bench nice just to kind of stop any sort of like kind of concrete separation of the two spaces right I want sort of like one solidly not necessarily solid orange but one decor piece above the table to kind of like Center the whole room and so that have a lot of the accent color in it but there may be something that I choose or DIY I'm not totally sure yet Roisin seems really confident right she seems like calmly confident about the whole entertainment side of things it seems like that's really a part of her personality to hang out with friends so she knows like the vibe that she wants to create in there my confidence level is fairly high because at the end of the day I'm gonna create a room that I love and that's really true to myself and I'm just feeling really good about my design idea in regards to what I would enjoy I'm shocked [Music] still to come a listen Roisin will shop into the last second and stall their spaces and face the judges I feel like you didn't do anything to it the only thing that is playing with the fourth wall is just the back of one chair okay so when do you ever get to run around a store in my wildest dream this is my dream I get to walk around and grab anything I want that looks pretty and I don't have to worry about my budget getting to shop without worrying about how much things cost but just getting to choose based on what I love is so much fun guys get one hour you have to pull everything that you want for your space in that one hour all right it's shopping time it's the time where they get to just run wild for an hour to try to put together their entire room oh my gosh and I thankfully have a scooters assistance today because I am quite tubular I am having a blast right now it's so overwhelming in the best possible way in my design I sketched a round table but I get out here and it's a little bit overwhelming I'm thinking maybe an oval gates help me Alyssa I'm phoning a friend oh my gosh I'm here I even found a balls in my basket I'm actually really dangerous you coming in to help see if I can I don't know answer some questions you know I don't want to design this room for her but I'm here as her mentor to help her think through any problems she may have so this is my rough sketch I like sort of a circular table this one's like seven from the edges of the chairs what do you mean what I wanted well that's great yeah and I personally was a little bit too big if your plan is to Center your table I personally do like a round table Center then you can get around that flow especially because your sideboard and those types of things will be square anyways yeah give it a bit of flow yeah so play with Shay okay we're gonna play the shape with the round shape yeah hi I'm going with Roisin to help her in the rug section like this is an arm workout what I'm here for pick them you got to just go with your gut this isn't a rug cut oh this is a rug sling yeah I don't have some orange in it yeah that one have some orange in it oh that one's super orange okay that one yeah I think I like that one that would crush your color inclusion all right I'll get these you keep going okay cool [Music] [Applause] [Music] okay Cheers okay so time is almost up it's time to powwow around their tables see what they pulled see where their act with their shopping well you got a lot of stuff I see your yellow I see the yellow it's here I think that this is like a gorgeous shade of yellow but I know that like your chip was a little more neon she has sort of an ombre gradient effect happening with her teal tones so she can totally do that with her yellows too I definitely feel like I see you in in so much of this stuff I love all the baskets and the textures is there anything that you need any help with your time don't stop think I have everything oh whoa an overhead fixture and stuff I have overhead DIY I'm gonna make wound I have curtain DIY coming oh whoa you gonna be busy final chances to grab any last-minute accessories we're gonna check in with ya and medieval yeah a little all over the place I love all the colors you have going on here we're accent chairs are going to be emerald green all bright pop of color so are you still thinking about doing the DIY artwork with the line I am even with the orange rug them two orange accents I still want that one piece on the wall since my walls gonna be really muted yeah I want to see that really bright you have that really bright yeah well exactly is there anything that you're missing because you're almost out of time I haven't picked out lights yet last-minute genie help our team Joey [Music] three two all right times up let's regroup on the run on the rock alright so how are we feeling oh good I'm tired so your spaces are being painted as we speak they'll dry overnight you'll get to go in and actually implement your DIYs place your furniture hang your lights all of that so you know try to get some sleep but good luck we're gonna be your wheels are gonna be spinning yeah yeah yeah or I can cuddle you day two oh my gosh this is the day you guys these contestants have to install their designs all those items they shop actually now have to work in a room okay oh my gosh I love it oh yes it's exactly what I wanted okay I'm loving this paint color it's exactly what I chose I was really nervous yesterday when I wasn't sure how it was gonna turn out but now seeing it in front of me it's incredible I love it so we are observing from afar as Alyssa and Roisin are installing their designs in the space I think that both of their paint color choices were really strong I can see both look great and beautiful but I'm very curious to see how they can pull off their accent colors in these spaces I have this crazy plan for a gorgeous chandelier I have never done anything like this in my life so I don't know why I think I could do this now when there's a time crunch but I got tons of rope and I want to hang it and paint it and like this ombre fade to yellow and trying to get this thing to stay level is way way way harder than I thought and I am really scared I'm thinking that this is a big mistake it sounds like it could be one of those projects that's either gonna totally pay off or look kind of scary [Applause] so I've got the square canvas and what my plan is to do these sort of like fun hexagon shapes in the bright orange to really tie into the color of my room and then layer the gold leaf over top of the orange in the same kind of hexagon shapes but I'm gonna do some of them Hollow so it's more like stripes to kind of give it some depth on the canvas time is ticking ladies come on pick it up oh this is already taking way longer than I ever planned now it's paint this puppy paint is flying on gang all over me all over the floor and we got to knock this out because I got to move on to something else so I knew my table setting skills were not up to par when I came into this design competition I have been struggling so much to find the right napkins to figure out the right combination of napkins and I want to cut them up so much because they are so big and bulky and I totally understand it makes it a useless napkin afterwards but I'm so frustrated with this right now [Music] I went to the craft store and got some materials I'm gonna make these canvases and paint that yellow color all around so it's a big wall of yellow pop and I brought pictures of my kids to put in and I want to write you are my sunshine on there because they are my sunshine and I want them to be represented in my space [Music] so when I went shopping I picked out two rugs because I didn't really know which one I wanted and now that I have them both I love the natural rug because it's got these awesome tassels on it but I also love the teal one because it ties in with all of my blue so what if we just use them both [Music] [Music] [Music] you're down to the last seconds everyone keeps rearranging this is the point where it's like you sometimes just have to give yourself a deadline because you could spend forever nitpicking and we don't got that time the judges are coming all right mason jars down guys i'm so proud of both of you it's time to check out each other's speed it looks so cool in here [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] it's amazing I can't believe you did all that is incredible I love the beach house it's so fun oh good I'm so glad that you guys are still getting along but that brings us to the next thing we have to bring the judges and we don't want you to hear or see them yet because they're going to go into your spaces and absorb them just from face value and then you guys will have an opportunity to walk in to your rooms and explain or answer any question so send a good ear muffs [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] we have Jeffrey Alan Marx who is one of the most prolific interior designers in Hollywood he designs for celebrities he designs for restaurants hotels I mean his spaces are totally gorgeous you guys have to follow him check him out we have James Charles sister of all sisters James is just an aesthetic genius you guys know he is an artist of all things makeup and color related and I know he is a very opinionated and very passionate about interior design we have Kristen McAtee she is a fashion and style maven she is so much a design enthusiast she's actually designed her entire house this past year she's also an old-school creative weirdo shout out Kristen okay judges go check out regimes room oh okay this is a cozy cute little dining room oh man and this is where the jolt of color came in I'd love the bright orange cute it's not like annoying noise usually around like it's like spring but it's also falling so first of all I love it it reminds me of like the color of orange juice which I'd like is the perfect color for healthy an eating area no for sure it's appetizing it's just a jolt of color yeah I really like the balance of like the color scheme in the room if my colour was orange I had never in a million years would be like Oh green really I'll be the last color that I had put together you look cute in orange for sure he's just wearing color like I feel like the orange of green doesn't clash as much as I thought it yeah look in my head it would one thing that I am noticing is that there's a lot of mixed metals I like that okay yeah I mean I wear that I don't love mixing metals for you personally I don't know I don't either yeah because we have brass we have gold we have rose gold we also have silver elements which is like a lot but I don't mind dad I love it it's sort of multi-use - mm-hmm it does feel like more than just a dining space yeah was definitely part of the challenge us like to make it entertaining make it feel like a warm welcoming that before you ready it has integrity for sure yeah maybe this light isn't my favorite I actually didn't really notice this when I first walked in but I do feel like the I like that bit of rusticity though the one thing that I noticed as soon as I walked in is there's a lot on the table yeah and I personally really love the look of like a table setting look I think these look so chic especially with the metal on the napkins oh my god this looks the best maybe we could go with like half the balls and half the candles or maybe some live plants would be nice yeah tops and I succulent centerpiece yes the judges are in Roisin space they're loving it I think they realize instantly how talented both of these designers are gonna be I mean I just I'm loving seeing James Charles who hates color and interior design actually loving the orange and the green in this space oh my gosh I'm shaking oh my god so I found mr. Kate videos through James Charles videos and now that James is sitting in my dining room on mr. Kate's show I cannot believe this is happening right now we all think you did a great job your inspiration and everything I immediately when I heard dining room thought back to college might be a group of friends we all had families in other places so every Sunday night was family dinner night for us actually some of my friends are in one of my yeah that's my very personal yeah they were the people that inspired this room so I wonder how much more did you bring in that was yours I also created this this was my DIY project so ended though in the morning and then I was down to the last minute and I needed something to go right here so I ended up covering the picture frame with removable wallpaper to give it kind of like a different type of picture frame and then I did craft paper and gold they loved that I don't know what was the most challenging part of designing this space there was a couple different things I would say this corner was very challenging I really wanted the bar to be like an integral part of the room like it was an entertaining space but again I wanted to be somewhere cozy where just like you could come and just make yourself a drink and relax so what is your favorite thing in the room my favorite thing in the room would be my DIY I really liked till it came out but I think it was just the fun of making it so last-minute not knowing if I was going to get it in the room I think it's textural and just interesting yeah that's a great focal point to the dining room we have another room to see but this was amazing and you killed it and thank you double carpet never seen double carpets cool yeah and here we go again with the color confident I would have wanted an accent with the collar in the first room okay it's light it's beautiful I love I think there's so many elements of this room that I might want to love that I really really love these frames with the clip the clip yes so one thing that I'm noticing right away is at the table setting in this room is a lot simpler than that we had in the last room yeah so it's definitely a major contrast which I kind of like it does feel a little bit more intimate which is still fine but you still have the cold the element of how much hair in the corners if you want to sit down and make it more casual I'm not loving the center piece right now I think it was a little maybe last-minute yeah I love this oh I love it yeah a double-car pants I think I love the muddled kind of textural yeah looking at these two in the room first like we never put them together but they look yes so good yeah yeah I mean it possible ooh from the lamp from the accent Walt like it I love it and this might sound crazy but I almost wish there was something underneath the chair like another little other she did that with another row yeah that's kind of fun it would anchor it a little bit more too cuz right now it isn't open it does feel a little bit floaty over in the corner but I do feel like there definitely could've been the same chair yeah that would be nice I love this yeah I think that Alyssa was really scared of that yellow clearly she became friends with it totally I think that this is a great inspiration for you creative weirdos sometimes you need that thing that scares you to help you think outside the box and make adventurous choices hi hi I'm Kristin I am so starstruck I can't believe these people are here in my room it's awesome thank you so much a good job Wow thank you you know are these your children yes I think of sunshine when I think of yellow so I wrote you are my sunshine then we sing that songs them every night the first thing I noticed when I walked in was this double carpet I've never seen this before and I loved it like I want to do it I picked them both for options but then I love them both yeah okay I have a question because this light fixture is so good it's gorgeous did this come fully like regular rope and did you paint it to match your color or did it come like this I got rope and embroidery hoops and you have Lisa you just made then string no way the star of the room like a shining the Sunbeam over this is a full DIY projects full complete I think it's super obvious that this is a homemade chandelier but they're surprised and I guess that's a good thing what was your biggest struggle the biggest struggle was this gosh darn color I never like I like the grays and blacks and whites in the room though I think it's just happy yeah it's a happy color so tell me about this well you know when you need an extra napkin you know wipe it for the spills I've got three little kids and so we're always yeah what was your favorite part about decorating the room I love styling some shelves yeah it's the hardest part for me these are another little thing from home we love my my boys bring me treasures from their walks and I just put them in these jars and it goes with the colors I love the box in-between it kind of married the two shelves yeah these are actually two totally separate pieces piece yeah so that we could just you know keep stuffing things as we need them you want to walk us through just kind of overall flow and why you chose to put the table in the center and the chair off of the side yeah I like the idea of just being able to get all the way around a table you know pulling out your chair and you're not hitting a wall it's annoying for me it's a big room and I thought well why don't we just have a spot where you can have a drink or play a game with your kids he can sit on the pouf and you guys can play uno or something okay so that answers my question because I was thinking about two chairs but it's sort of nice to bring in the pouf from all around them well sister Lissa thank you so much for so casing your beautiful room to us we think you honestly killed it yeah but now we have a very very tough decision we sure do to make so we'll see you in a little bit nice to meet you too holy crap everything down with you guys so much each and every one of you for being here so this is the time where I get to just kind of sit down with you guys go over some of those things that stood out to you maybe help answer any follow-up questions that may have come up so let's talk about Roe Sheen's ability to make that into more than a dining room how do you think she did there I think she did a really really good job honestly there's enough space where you can sell breathe and have I love it she went off-center to the table gave it a little more breathing space and I think the way she worked with the color was so good because interior design goes through phases like the marble was big the rose gold was big and she really used the color in a way that like I've never seen yeah her color is the green be the Lascaux that I said orange like such a good job makes her feel a little more organic yeah the only thing I feel like maybe she could have used a little bit more orange I'd love to see a pattern in the curtain a little bit more textural curtains I think if you're gonna do a color like just go for and jump into the room and really go for it yeah let's talk about mixed metals so I think we have to at the table who liked mixed metal dog I think mixed metals is an automatic kind of eclectic choice so when you do choose to make some brass and a silver what she did but then she even added like wrote yeah like that you're automatically into more of like a vintage vibe even though I personally don't like mixed metals I do think she did it in a very tasteful way that didn't even come across as gross and oh no no no let's talk about the light fixture yeah yeah it wasn't my favorite it wasn't my favorite either and I feel like so we other elements of the room were so strong and matched so well together but that light I feel like really did feel like an the odd one out of the room which is definitely not where when we walked into Alyssa's room it was the first thing that we noticed it was such a nice surprise in there too I think is important in a room like this yeah I have a nice like and the fact that it was a DIY you guys so impressed I love it yeah one of the first things that I noticed were those frames on the wall the you are yeah I absolutely love those I think it was such a simple element cuz they're literally just gray frames at the white canvas in them and you immediately went to a personal aspect yeah her which was really fun yes I definitely did like those DIY frames better than the frames that Roshan had put on her wall with the pictures of the friends who tiny needed a bigger scale and that's what I loved about the scale it was it was so cool less I want the terror the terror she wanted she had to and I felt like this for both people like what are you gonna do go and have a glass of wine by yourself or play a game like it but I you know she did justify that by saying she would pull up the poof or at least Roshan's room had more seating at the dining table so you could still all be sitting around comfortably where the listen room only had four seats yeah than the one chair as opposed it's very interesting that they both chose one chair let's talk about Alyssa's table setting because there was a very large difference between routines at Alyssa's tables I didn't love either table settings I liked which seems a little bit better I loved those metal things on the napkins for some reason but I will say it did feel a little bit overwhelming on the table there was a lot going on I just want to see something organic first is Alyssa's table I do think was lacking a little bit fresh flour or Daisy ah Daisy when you oughta - she started giggling oh sure napkin you could tell this made sense yeah she did approach it very much like a mom casting this room as being something right that for someone with kids well I love how opinionated you guys are because you have really absorbed both of these rooms you understand the stakes here for these people they really invested so much time so oh no you have to pick one so I'm gonna leave you guys to deliberate and so you guys will write down the name the winner in an envelope and I will find out real time with that so I know it's a system that okay we did it okay this is gonna be really hard this is the time has come we will find out the winners soon but first we want you guys to hear from the judges they have been putting in so much careful thought into this deliberation and I know they have some feedback for you all but you guys did such an amazing show amazing I know this was a really hard decision for fun but let's hear some some pros and cons yes hello Roisin and ELISA you guys both did such an incredible job on both of your rooms we as judges weren't thoroughly impressed by your guys's ability I'm starting off with Roisin we loved your room I personally loved your choice of color theory I never in a million years of hair orange and dark green together but I thought it was such a beautiful pairing and it just felt very very comfortable and relaxing in your room one thing that I would have loved to see different was the light fixture over top of the dining table I felt as though all of your choices were so strong what the light did take away from the room a little bit - ELISA we loved your light I thought it was such a cool DIY and overall I really really loved your DIYs in general I thought they brought a very very personal feel to your room especially with your family the posters on the wall so cute the room felt a little bit staged and I think that's because the table was smack dab in the middle I don't know why but I feel like it could be pulled and a little bit of a different direction and it would have felt a lot more comfortable but overall both of you guys did such an incredible job Roisin I love your sense of color I think you're bold choices with the art were amazing I'd love to see you even go further with that and explore your accessorizing a little more with bolder things having said that I think some of the accessorizing maybe was a little too much maybe you need to start editing out a couple of things especially with the table top I think would be nice to have in both instances and in both rooms a second chair for a second grown-up to be sitting but I love the room I think it's very happy and colorful for the yellow room I absolutely love it you know it feels a little bit more like my personal style because it's a little beach here of course I love the fixture I think it's the best I think it's organic and I think you need to do more of that I think with the dining room chairs I probably would have lowered them and done a little bit more of a cozy or chair more of a barrel chair or something besides that I think the room is so fun and so peaceful and I of course you know bringing live elements wherever I love the sense of plants and both of the rooms hey you guys both did really amazing starting with Roisin you had a hard color in the way you played with it it was like almost effortless you did really well with the color and I think you took away what could be kind of annoying about orange and you added the earthy greens and the metals and it kind of toned it down and made it more timeless the one thing that I noticed about this room was the fourth wall picturing it I feel like you didn't do anything to it the only thing that is playing with the fourth wall is just the back of one chair but over to Alyssa's room like I said when I first walked in I fell in love with the carpet thing that is like so cool to me I don't know why I'm so entertained by it it's so cool and like they said the fixture is so amazing I love the way you decorated the shelves I expressed it that's something that's been really hard for me to learn as a new designer it's it's hard because you don't want to be too matchy-matchy and it could get Knick Knack ii and i think you you did it perfectly the one thing I would change is there's a lot of symmetry and I don't like symmetry I like offset I like weird I like rooms that kind of make you think when you walk in like who which way do I walk around the table you guys both sit amazing this this was hard and I have to tell you as someone who personally knows of James's loathing of color and yeah and I think you both did such an incredible job of highlighting two colors that usually are not used that often in the terrier design or if they are it's really tricky to get them right I think you both did such an incredible job and I think you both are winners at the end of the day but there can only be one winner so judges you have to fight it we husba sighs all right thank you all for your careful deliberation so you guys both did amazing but only one of you guys can win that thousand dollar gift card living spaces and be the winner of this episode of design versus design design okay so Roisin you did amazing Alyssa you did amazing but the winner of design vers design is [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] oh my gosh this is the most incredible thing I feel so validated and it's just been inspiring Canton Joey for this opportunity oh my gosh this has been another epic episode of design versus design thank you guys so much for tuning in let us know in the comments what you think please of course give our contestants some love because they worked so hard and put so much loving energy into these rooms so yes all positivity and obviously please go follow ghosts support go subscribe because these are some impressive people over here and we're so lucky to have you guys so thank you so much all of you for gracing us with your judgey presence guys make sure and hit that subscribe button if you aren't already a creative weirdo join the creative weirdo fam we have many more episodes of design brush design plus all kinds of other makeovers you can see us makeover James's plays you want to take it to the next level you can also hit that join button we have awesome behind-the-scenes members blogs and all that fun stuff oh and living spaces for partnering with us on this epic video we're gonna celebrate with our winner and [Music] three-count okay ready oh my holy crow we're coming over [Music] open up we're here okay you're yelling like so loud
