on today's episode of designers design we do something we've never done before and have to kid creative weirdos go head-to-head to create a dream kid's bedroom it would mean the world to me if I could be one of your contestants I would love that so much we're partnering with living spaces where they'll have one hour to run wild and grab anything they want to achieve their design it's like literally like one of the biggest places I've ever been in we're also treating them like professional designers and giving them a specific challenge in the rooms so stay tuned to find out what that is how big is your bed gonna be 48 by 48 48 by 48 and of course we are so lucky to have a panel of esteemed judges Alicia Marie drew Scott and Amina Luciola on hand to pick one room as the winning design I thought I knew who I was gonna choose but now I'm not sure I'm holy number one I have no idea so hit that subscribe button harness your creativity and get ready for some fun competition because this is design first design and the winner is welcome to another designers design episode we are so excited about this one today we are doing it kid verse kid you guys said in the comments it would be so fun to have kid vs. kid we were like yes it would be guys make sure and hit that subscribe button you have a lot of awesome design versus design episodes coming at you Kate is obviously pregnant right now so we're shooting a lot of them so we found two amazing design obsessed kids who are creative weirdos as well Jordan and Dalia hi Kate and Joey I'm Jordan I go to the Orange County School of the Arts I'm in the production design Conservatory where I learn to use my creativity and skills to do set design makeup hair costume might even sound I'm very creative I can think of my feet I'm very good under pressure another reason is that I use creativity as a big part of my life every day I work on my American Girl doll house which I decorate and design myself I TUC made this banner and did like the pillow set up in here and then I made all the bedding and pillows in here and this boxes and the nightstand then down here I made like these pillows and stuff I would also like to say thank you for inspiring me every day to live more creatively and boldly and say hi to Winston and Roxanne for me hey hey mr. Kay I'm jolly designing decorating DIY and all this stuff is literally my hobby I live up to this every single weekend I'm changing my room to a different color different glitters this is me ever since I was ten years old and I found myself decorating it has been my dream to open up a design company and that's what I'm gonna do when I'm older this is my room so over here I got this ordinary letter cardboard so these are brown ordinary cardboards letters and I painted them pink and I added glitter on both of them because it fits my room so up here this is my pin board just an ordinary white pin board that I actually change I got a holographic tape to incorporate my room color in it and then in my closet I love coming into my closet and decorating it and changing it and I actually added shells to make my pink bags are up here my black bags are up there it would mean the world to me if I could be one of your contestants I would love that so much are you guys so excited are you nervous I'm a little nervous that's good that's good nervous energy is good you can harness it make it creative energy decided what nervous you're nervous yes I love it you guys know the drill you've seen the show yeah one of you will win the thousand dollar gift card to living spaces neither of you gonna ultimately lose though because both of your designs are gonna be donated to charity so whatever you come up with is gonna end up in a home that someone's really gonna enjoy and appreciate very happy yes there's gonna be donated to charity cause if we're like doing all this it should be for like a purpose I think it's a very nice thing and I'm happy and I'm excited for the kids that are gonna get my room so that makes it extra special for you guys to you as designers but we do have a specific design parameter freebo's because we want there to be you know an even playing field no matter what but also channel your creative expressions write your creative weirdness so we want you both not only to obviously make this a bedroom like a kid's bedroom of dreams come true but we want you both to have a feature wall so if you guys have seen our past videos we do feature walls all the time we've done the Pam peed in mud cloth in Mia steamers room we did the lyric wall in Lilly Singh's room the hand-painted rainbow and Jessie Paige's room it's a step above an accent wall so it really is something that either features mural multiple colors a pattern text so something more than just like a different paint color write something sense not an accent wall a feature wall okay Dahlia that's your room Jordan that's your room we're gonna get some measuring tapes and some clipboards for you guys some paint fan decks you guys excited you're gonna get 30 minutes to come up with your plan [Applause] [Music] today's episode is gonna be really great because both of their designs are gonna be donated to furnishing hope yes which is a charity that works to help wounded warriors or families in crisis and provide home items to them so this is gonna be extra special so those rooms are going to go to a good place but obviously it is a competition so we do have a panel of esteemed judges showing up tomorrow to pick a winner and the winner will get a thousand dollar gift card to living spaces so they'll have 24 hours to pull off these rooms they can rely on us for help when they need it we're not gonna give them too much help because we really want their personalities to shine through yes we're making sure to be advisors and mentors to just help facilitate whatever their ideas are we also have our amazing crew on hand who can help paint help them execute their feature wall so don't worry they will be getting sleep but we're not gonna be torturing children [Music] how's it going hello look at all those bright colors you have out all right so so you know I'm Lauren DIYs from when you did it you split her own kind of in half yeah I think it sees that but still make it one room so that way it wouldn't be too dividers and girls okay so well like dragon fruit and then one this one I think it's the second one down second one down so match cool so then you basically just need to paint colors going on this one wall split in half yep she's taking inspiration from our Lord DIY Alex wasabi collab where we did that office split down the middle which i think is very cool and it's gonna allow her to play with the floor plan have like one side be one thing there's trying to be the other thing which is smart when you have such a big wall in the room especially in a kid's room so I was thinking of actually putting shelves and then a big whiteboard here so shelving on one side a way board on the other desk right under the split where's your bed going right here I think dahlias really focused on her feature wall she just needs to take like a small breath and think a little bit further about her furniture because what she's thinking about now probably won't fit right because she wants the desk to be really close to the bed but of course the bed size is actually gonna extend and kind of be an obstruction to the desk so we just want to make sure that the finished room is something that she's picturing so Queen would come to like here which would only leave you like this much space yeah well you also probably want like a side table to there are some Thea right I mean you don't have to but so twin how wide is doing twins 38 wide so you could probably make that work with a desk here there yeah so you mean if you put it over more it this way yeah and then you had the desk yeah cuz obviously if we're if you're gonna be doing the middle split we don't want the foot of the bed like kind of conflicting with the sight line so I really came up with a queen bed but I went back and it's too large so I'm gonna go with a twin daybed what were you thinking for over here do they have pictures around me any other furniture I don't yeah a little shelf here it's like to keep clothes and then on top I'd put like different cool pieces so I love where you're going I love how bright colored and everything and all the things you're thinking I just want to make sure that obviously you're challenging yourself to make this feature wall like very future I feel a little bit stressed but I got this I know how to do it all right Jordan you got like ten more minutes ish yeah sort of think more about your bed and stuff but it we love the plan the colors trusting your instincts you're doing under doing amazing hey Jordan hello George okay so you're sketching you've got colors in mind hopefully but we're here to like advise yeah what do you got I feel like kids should like have like a sense of like adventure and like want to travel so I was thinking like doing some sort of like mural on like San Francisco like three different sets of mountains that like fade from lighter to darker and like Golden Gate Bridge and then like maybe have like some fog coming around here oh so sort of bleeds off Aleppo into these walls Jordans feature wall is like blowing my mind oh cool yeah she totally has it sketched out using San Francisco as an inspiration beautiful city she's basically creating an immersive bedroom an experience what do you thinking about like floorplan was um I was thinking about maybe like putting the bed like right where you guys are saying like off-center okay and then having like a desk under the window I'm just trying to keep it like functional but also like calm relaxing so like it's not just a place you can like work and sleep it's also a place you can relax have you chosen some accent colors that's called iceberg egg guys like the base color and then I had some like colors like I was thinking about for like the mountains okay great so yeah as long as you have all those codes then we can have our crew go get all those pink colors because we'll want to get started on that ASAP and obviously make sure you have time to like mm-hmm execute your vision right we have to definitely encourage our kid contestants to dream big but also dream realistically you feel good yeah okay good alright you know what time it is time to shop [Music] the exciting part have you ever had the ability to go into a store and just get whatever you want it's like literally like one of the biggest places I've ever been in this store is massive I don't think I'm gonna be able to get all my stuff in time because just getting to the other side it's gonna take so long you guys ready yep one hour marks get set [Music] so the first thing I need to do is find my bed because it's like a huge major like staple point for the room [Music] I chose the neutral bed because I kind of want it to blend in with the fog that I'm gonna do in the bottom of my mural I think this bet is perfect it looks exactly what I imagined it's gonna be circulars everywhere like you're not gonna be able to sit down on the bed that's how many throw pillows it gonna be so the girls are running around the store we love their energy we always encourage the contestants to pick options when it comes to accessories and stuff so that when we bring all the stuff back into the studio they have like art options and throw a pillow options I found this really cool desk that's like a dark grey and it has drawers along like the top and then like some places where you can put like pins along the side it's like very functional which is like a big part that I wanted in my room oh my god if they had that in pink I didn't call yep that is most pink as we've gone but I need it to be fluffy okay all right so white yeah white this one right here yep I think okay I'll get it you keep going thank you [Music] I've seen your guys's voice look look at you oh my gosh this is totally with your travel theme like a cool like Southwest theme love the opposite colors of the orange and blue is totally coming together and is this your lamp yeah beautiful do you have any like sort of questions or issues or anything you want by us I was wondering if like I could put like a hanging chair like a hammock II type thing or like did you see what curtain no I did it okay well then we gotta go look probably in outdoors probably if anywhere it would be that would be really cool that would go with your chair oh my god okay do you want this okay we'll take it oh yeah that's cool I always kind of wanted one of those at my room cuz like I feel like it would be a cool place just like chillin read [Music] Athene I totally see all these colors and so much pink so much please of course I don't hate at all it's this is the bed you're picking obviously the bed so a day bad day bad because Maximizer space what's why are you gonna put this on we're gonna put underneath the window that wait the window will be just peeping a pop of it all right so is there anything that you're like unsure of yeah I'm a little bit worried about the rug she picked a big 8 by 10 white shadow pretty but so small it gets to it hypothetically by the person it's not gonna bring their colors right right so you want to bring in the colors underfoot yeah okay sure okay so brighter rug oh right right but the shine could work too wrong so we love it okay really cute right I like this perfect because if you have the white shag rug this could be your colorful option you know perfect okay so let's cool it real so you have options and then what about I want to make sure that you have bedding that ain't right that maybe a bedside table if you if you have a room for it I thought that bedside table oh yeah here do you pick this one out Oh perfect cuz it matches the bed and the dresser Oh got it got it got it okay perfect I really like how different both of their rooms are already starting to look what the things are pulling like that who's got like the pink and the sequins and then Jordan has sort of the rusty colors the pastel colors almost a little bit more like southwestern bag okay ten minutes left I'm calling it yeah call it ten minutes girls why do we not have one of these bunk beds at home I don't know but I'm worried about you falling off of it guys how are we feeling pretty good Oh Freddy I'm just like so excited yeah oh good I'm a hundred feet tired from running around the school I think I got almost like a workout really tired but I'm really excited for tomorrow because it's just gonna be super fun to see the room come together so we're going into tomorrow and a good place right yep but obviously tomorrow is really important that is where the actual design is gonna take shape so you guys gonna get a good night's sleep good night hopefully eat your vegetables have a good breakfast we'll see you back here [Applause] you guys day two so exciting our kids have shopped and planned but today is the day that they get to shine as interior designers because they have to now take all of that stuff and actually execute it as a finished room I'm so excited to see what they pull together both of them have really cool ideas seems like both of them have really ambitious ideas and they don't have a lot of time because they got to get it all installed today because the judges are coming this afternoon and then one of them is gonna win [Music] so I split the wall into yellow and pink and then I have different colored drips coming down [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] I just got the plate blank curtains and I'm supposed to hang them up and I just don't think it's gonna work because it needs to be happy like the whole room is revolving around colors so I think I'm gonna go around and paint like a frame around it so I'll give it a border and it will bring in the pink wall so hopeful the best [Music] [Music] down to the wire they got a hurry up we are almost out of time I know but the rooms are looking so good I'm so proud of these two they work so hard and they also were so confident like really truly part of being a designer being a creative weirdo in general is just embracing your creativity and not apologizing for it and sticking to those instincts you know what they have what they have a thing you have what which is the ability to see the design they're getting ready to implement before they actually start and then they tell me and I go and then sure enough like I can already tell both these rooms are awesome they are so awesome we got to hire these two okay now is the time for you both to check out each other spaces are you ready yeah all right cross oh my gosh [Music] [Music] oh my god like this is so beautiful I gets so colorful and amazing and just like the drips on the wall I really like this just all the cute little like details and added things that just bring the whole space life are really awesome it looks amazing I think she did a great job of it I am just so proud of you guys like I just hope that you feel so proud of yourselves are you proud yes yes so we're doing it a little differently this time we want the judges to have the opportunity to walk into the rooms before meeting the contestants so they can really see the rooms just from fees value right if you're not be swayed by the personality of the contestants exactly and then we're gonna let the contestants come in and answer any questions or any follow-up exclamations they want to give the judges have like homework to do or something right now right we have some incredible judges we have Alicia Marie YouTube Instagram superstar we also have Amina Luciola from Studio Lucci yup and tassel very readable style icon and we have drew Scott of lone fox he is an amazing DIY our interior designer he's also a fashion superstar okay judges check out jordan Spieth I love the pastels but that's not a surprise yes we good I could never paint this I had one of these oh I have that too do you want yeah I really love how they layers the Palouse oh yeah yeah oh and the prep mixing is pretty great mr. Kate soundtrack outdoor thingy man yeah no it's great you should bring it actually great yeah I love all the little like southwestern kind of touches but then like mixed in with like San Francisco backdrop things like yeah makes those no I love that I like how light it is yeah it's very like airy very airy they're so nice pop of color it's really cozy - yeah I'm really cold the kitties yeah this feels like seven this is it's like actually a really tasteful version of a kid's room yeah I still thinks I've been see I think that's one thing throwing me off is some of the vibe is older like this like this whole dresser here yeah that's a little but then I see the stuffed animals so I think younger confuse on the age you know what I definitely get the vibe that the person who did this room loves nature actually that's like my one of my favorite parts it's just like yeah all of these kind of like nature things happening all right Jordan go meet the judges drew how are you good so talented have you been to San Francisco yeah I have I've been once and it was really fun yes like a really cool place oh my god so that's why you chose it to be a the feature yeah I kind of wanted to do like an adventure theme cuz like I feel like kids should be like adventurous for a bedroom no I love how you did this - like the fog yeah you like sponge it on there somebody used a rag and I dipped in paint yeah just really rubbed it one time I sponge paint in my room what was the hardest part that you came across probably the mirror keep all that yeah it definitely feels big if you could pick the ideal age for someone who would be in this room what age would it be I really love how you kind of coordinated the pillows to this moment so good I tried to bring like the colors in from like the mural until I got their places so like the greens and the yellow from my kitchen and it's like yeah great I liked this because I feel like the angles of here with like the angles up the fridge up here so what was your favorite part definitely the chair I love it yeah and what kid wouldn't want a hanging Chara strains them so they can't really swing well we do have one more space to look at so I think we're gonna go head over there and check it out all right all right judges check out Dahlia space beautiful oh my gosh [Laughter] what is this a painted curtain I'm just like everything with it just look at this yeah a little door drip no I like I really like how they did that yeah it's so good and then even shoving this with yellow like what okay wait the age on this one this is a little older this is not no this is like a solid 13 14 yeah this is like a teeny yeah this is a teenager 18 my backward that what do you think it's like for like all the is that throwing your off yeah but I guess my seventh grades off my sixth grade item yeah yeah I really love how the day bed just like opens up the room yeah and like saves space it looks like a like a surround oh yeah it's like a nice little like princess says to doulas watch mr. K polish nails math clean up we can check I really love actually how they did the layering and so like it's color block the yellow and the pink and then the colors dripping over it I just didn't even notice the yellow on the paint yeah it's it's really great maybe just a tiny bit of cleaning right there where the lines are yeah I like the idea I think I believe but I feel like this I mean but I'm not like fully but I do like the idea of it it's a little crunchy yeah it looks like a doggy like [Laughter] all right so now we're gonna send dolly in to meet with the judges and tell them about her room I think they have lots of questions I'm Alicia I call me that hi drew so my thing was my room was P like the brightest and it can be the happiest it can be uh-huh and then what I really wanted was there to be a lot of floor space I know I like to have friends over and even underneath the bed there's a trundle or pullout bed so sleepover drinks so what did you do I in here okay so I DIY pretty much everything the door the back wall they do the shelves oh the shelves as well yeah the shelves I did them as well I love like symmetrical to the window yes how much white spaces like white but there's lots of color how much color there is still very Airy what I need I need it to be a balance because I don't want you to come to your room and be like where do I go so in the nighttime you still may be able to sleep not gonna get that if you have so much color where was your first your first like idea that you were going I walked into the room and I said this is a great space it needs to be a space that somebody can work in I really wanted it to be happy very bright you'd be able to dream this room but it's still to be a useful workspace so you really focus on functionality ask what made you think to put the tissue paper because we loved I love mannequins okay I think it's like the best way to put on clothes without having to put them on because I hate trying on clothes I never I do like it much fun yes Eli James you get dressing it up and taking the clothes off and putting them on and also because it's on the pink side of the wall I want you to bring in the yellow from this side of the wall tie in together what was the hardest part of the room a hundred percent was the quote it was because I was up there and I had to keep coming down to see like if it fit and the size is nemesis it out for I did draw it out in pencil well thank you so much this was amazing I think we have some thinking to do guys how fun are these real let's talk about how to analyze the space cuz I know judging this is gonna be really hard because they're both so different so I would just encourage you guys to think about the fact that both of these ladies potentially want to be interior designers or art directors somehow work in a professional capacity when they grow up so let's talk about Jordans space what do you guys feeling about that I really loved it yeah yeah this spark was like a world traveler or just like a kid that wants to travel or dreams of traveling it looks professionally designed yeah in there it looks like a catalog that's really I could never do something like that and I'm so surprised how young they are yeah I mean just the layering of those colors cuz that's not an easy color palette that she chose like blue orange but then also to add in green and yellow and different unisex like that room is very like could be a boy's room cubby a girl's room totally gendered she was working with both like pastels and then all these earthy tones and mixing together is kind of challenging actually absolutely yeah and then the rest' reet - I thought she showed a lot of very much restraint editing which is again pretty sophisticated any kids room you think oh it's an explosion and a lot of ways or it could get messy or cluttered but her styling was very purposeful the personal elements she brought in with like the journal on the desk yeah no I can't edit like that so Jordan almost cast someone in this space right like she's 14 right so she's kind of just coming out of that kid phase herself but she made this room right what is she say you're sold that's definitely something as a designer you're gonna have to like that's a huge treat you're gonna need to be able to have someone and see their vision and absolutely and obviously that's in contrast to Dahlia who I feel like kind of designed the room for herself even though it was like an explosion of color and definitely more about like definitely something she loves she was definitely thinking about functionality still though and that's yeah it was really light and airy for being so much color I think that's really hard right because she was really all about making sure everything was coordinated having the repetition of color because she colors right in here and you saw them in the shell the tissue I wondered could be well balanced and that's totally sufficient it's really low I did not think of that I'm curious because I know you've painted so much with color and you know how to manipulate paint so well how do you think they both did in that department I was really impressed with that like meals are hard you think they're like I'll just throw some paint on there but then like everything drives me the multiple layers with the drips of color it was really impressive because that could look like not I know it's easy to go back with a lot of color and then I think obviously on Jordans and the mural was so complicated but you can tell that to the law yeah so her thought process was painting the side walls the color of the fog that then filtered in over the middle kind of faded yeah exactly that is really actually like how there was a little less DIYs because that was like the main DIY and it made the rest of the room just seem very like minimal and I think that was a good balance ya know that's a really good point yeah let the feature wall which was the main challenge of the space really shine and those actually loved the mr. Cate soundtracks it's gonna say she incorporated it really well but like they both did incorporating the future wall into the rest of the space in colors colors I was like really sophisticated with matching like the pillows and then over on the other side in the bridge Julia design tells a story and they really did this and then when you saw Dalia's space and then met her did it did it that room I I'll be in their next extreme of our Amiga we were gonna go from like minimalist yeah manliest that egg to to like a nice yep perfect no I need you guys to collaborate a final decision and Julie and I aren't gonna know until we announce it so I thought I knew who I was gonna choose but now I'm not sure I'm probably number one I have no idea the time has come oh my gosh okay I know the judges have deliberated they've made a decision guys we don't know who the winner is yes oh by the way I want to be so clear on this you guys are both beyond winners like and so talented like I hope you guys feel so energized by this and go on to do professional stuff cuz that's how we all feel and I know that judges have such a hard time choosing linner but Thank You judges for doing so only one of you can get the thousand dollar gift card but both your rooms are going to charity they're going to furnishing hope which is an amazing charity so feel good about your we all feel good okay all right so before we announce the winner let's hear from the judges just overall what you guys thought of the space maybe a little constructive criticism after all these are aspiring designers you know they'll need some tips both of your guys's rooms are so amazing it's honestly so inspiring to see this it makes me want to do more with my life I'm not even kidding like I'm not even kidding we love the color the aesthetic of both there's two very different styles here which made it really hard so choose Jordan your room if you weren't here I would believe that a professional celebrity designer did this everything is so well thought out it's so sophisticated and mature the only constructive criticism we really had was we were kind of confused about the age for who this room is for you know I I thought it was more of a teenager drew definitely not a seven-year-old for instance the chair felt a little more mature where some of the stuffed animals felt a little younger so we were just a little confused on that side we loved how you did very simple DIYs and let the feature wall speak for itself because it is such a DIY thank you did amazing and then Dalia your room the color is so exciting and vibrant this is like the dream sleepover room I would have died to be and when I was younger for sure back now to you honestly honestly you were so intentional about the furniture being something that you can have throughout your teen years and that's something a lot of people take into consideration when you're designing a room so that's huge and I loved how you focus on those small details the only a few things we really had to say was the curtains for instance we felt like it may be the pink border wasn't as needed as a DIY I think just white curtains would have been totally fine and great and then super small details of the pencil outline maybe like erase those a little more for the quote on the wall but both you guys had we had such small criticisms for yeah we really had a peck to find out perfect that is such a good sum up of it because it's true but these spaces look so different you guys did such sophisticated work in there I mean I cannot believe that you guys are the eight you are and you pulled this off we're gonna talk later about potentially hiring you on the mister Katie okay the time has come you have the envelope all right and the winner is and the first kid vers kid design versus ayan winner is oh oh oh it's very Fulton Thank You judges oh my gosh you guys I know these are both two talented kids oh my gosh thank you so much guys for watching this video make sure to give it a thumbs up and let us know in the comments what you think and just just give these two some love because they worked so hard and of course please go follow and subscribe to the judges check out their products their content they're so amazing thank you so much for being here judges oh my gosh you guys have so inspired us and you guys are such cool examples of creative weirdos yeah so thank you for just all your creativity huge thanks to living spaces for partnering with us on this video guys if you want to become a creative weirdo hit that subscribe button join the fam right yep it pays off you might be our nice designer son contestant so thanks so much for watching see creators day where see you [Music] [Music] but now how are you getting rid of your go now you take it no cut is the judging day for our two wonderful Kate created weirdo Dalia is about to meet the judges she hasn't met them yet she's about to turn around and meet them there in ER are you excited - Slade you guys did your fun time so much fun these two watch out for these two they're gonna be like killer interior designers are already killer interior designers I'm so proud of you guys hi by
