[Music] knock me down i'll get up again fighting for my life till the end come for me violence is [Music] the death watch are an elite force even within the ranks of the adeptus astartes made up of veteran space marines from different chapters who served together in the long vigil to be chosen to serve a tour of duty with the death watch is a great honor and only the most elite and experienced are chosen welcome this very special episode of 40k in 40 minutes where we get to introduce to you this community conceived death watch army hi folks my name is nicholas otherwise known as taonik and i get to tell you about a very cool project that we got to do with our patreon community behold the death watch community project we are humbled and thankful for everyone's participation and now we put the fate of the imperium and the inaugural battle of the death watch in the hands of the emperor's favorite agent space marine steve all of our patrons sent in one part of this army so they built it they paint it their artistic energy went into it and i am honestly kind of humbled to be playing it today it's awesome the tyranids are fast and vicious and the exact type of threat the death watches kill teams would be sent to put down but this won't be easy it seems that tyranids have a lot of interesting layers and play to them i'm really interested to see what they can do in terms of scoring points spreading out over the map and finding interesting ways to get at their enemy and eat them up good in tycho's forces he has a swarmlord a brood lord and the new parasite of mortex no swarm is complete without its grimlies and taiko has brought two squads of termigons and one squad of hormagons a death leaper and two squads of jean sealers as well as tyrant guard and ataranofx will dish out some hurt this is a tough assignment for the death watch but also very fitting we had so many units to choose from and we could only bring about half of the community army into this 1500 point battle steve has one endometer kill team with the aquila designation composed of five heavy intercessors and five aggressors some with bold storms and others with flamers one spectres kill team composed of infiltrators and incursors i do want to note that some of these are even named after some people that have appeared on play on there is even a not tau nick there are two redemptor dreadnoughts and a razorback with a primaris tech marine to support them and one unit of eradicators for bringing down the big monsters also the warlord is this really really really crazy primarist chaplain on bike that steve has affectionately named barney this battle uses a mission out of war zone knockbund in tide of conviction players score four points for controlling two objectives four points for controlling three or more and four points for controlling more than their opponent to be scored in their respective command phases the mission primary overrun awards players two points for their first four turns for controlling at least one objective marker in the opponent's territory there is a mission special rule as well supply lines a player can only generate a battle forged command point in the command phase if they at least control the objective in their own deployment zone for secondaries steve took purge the alien he gets one point for every xenos unit that is destroyed raise the banners high and grind them down scores him three points if he can kill more units than his opponent in one turn tycho took for secondaries engage in all fronts bring it down where he scores by taking out steve's vehicles and retrieve nakaman data that requires him to take actions in each of the table quarters [Music] during deployments i am going to elect to combat squad my endometer kill team and my spectra's kill team in the endometer kill team five heavy intercessors and they're gonna go one way and then the other five aggressors are gonna go the other way the spectres kill team also combat squads giving him four units where there used to be just two and then i'm going to take my first unit split up team play on so i think the dream team is gonna go one way and the rest and the rest so anna so annabelle ross tac tycho and steve we're all going to we're all gonna hit up the table and i think what's gonna happen is we're gonna infiltrate right here today's battle takes other squad with this is a non-town nick both players are forward deploying immediately and buy for board control these objectives in no man's land are valuable for scoring so getting on them early could be a great advantage [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] the way the two players are deploying it is tough to say who will gain an advantage by going first [Music] [Applause] [Music] well i put down tyrant guards so i guess you know where swarm is guys it's going right there let him go i'm gonna take my tech marine right next to freaking frack over here [Music] here we go that's not gonna do it oh no all right so i got first turn uh what do i do as part of my chapter tactic i need to select a battlefield roll and my army rerolls once to wound against that battlefield roll okay i'm going to select elites because you got quite a few elites on you the gene sealers are preparing for a charge into eradicators and the tyrant guard move to hold the objective in their place game plan is to move forward i need to get onto his objectives and get my guns firing my guns are maximum 24 inch range gene steelers and the brood lord move really close to that half of the spectrus kill team jp and non-town nick may be in trouble i'm gonna try a new cagey and stay out of sight of dreadnoughts because dreadnoughts [Music] i have psychic shenanigans oh catalyst on my iron guard that goes off at a nine yay taiko cast catalyst on the tyrant guard so now they ignore wounds on a 5-0 brood lord smites the aggressors for two wounds full shooting phase i'm not gonna have a lot to do here but i got a little bit i got a little bit start with the stinger salvo into the aggressors here we go strength five toughness five looking for fours that's gonna be three wolves threes i get them all here's the good one here the brood lord can see these guys meaning that these guys get to shoot out of line of sight heading on threes oh that's a lot of ones and two let's do this oh no it's two damage two damage all right that's it for the shooting phase on to look charge phase an important charge over here my gene steelers are going after your eradicators so i'm gonna spend one command point going from nine to eight and i'm going to overwatch on sixes nope nothing need a seven that's four i will go down to nine command points doesn't make this it's gonna be excellent i want to make it though no you really want to but don't oh yeah tycoon really wanted to tie up those eradicators but it won't happen this turn steve must be breathing a huge sigh of relief this is what they get for trying to take my pants jeans steelers and brood lord charge into the specter's kill team to get up the board for engaging all fronts and possibly wipe them out goodbye non tau nick all right so the first thing i'm choosing in my fight phase is my brood lord he is going to use the arm girl factor to up his attacks by one and he's going to attack into this spectrus kill team kill them all and i'm going to transhuman physiology there [Music] three fives and i get one sorry nick sorry chris i need one more so i'm going to use one command point on impaling hooks um my gene stealers have flush hooks ability which allows them to use this one strat one command point plus one to hit okay who's gonna go oh no all these ones excellent there we are jt if jt lives he's gonna survive jt could survive oh snap yes he does also steve seems to think that it's jt when it's clearly jp jt doesn't play space marines silly steve he obviously can't read i need to roll a one two or three to stick around oh he's good hold strong i've managed to surround and nearly destroy these intercept no in cursor inter the primaries marines in the middle of the map tycho scores two for engaging all fronts but in his aggression forgot to retrieve knock mandata [Music] so uh two whole points at the end of his turn that's not that bad but the number one thing is he doesn't seem to be focusing a whole lot on his secondaries which is something that i am going to very much focus on so maybe i can slip away from him in the secondary game and i think that's going to be my path to victory in my command phase first ted the tech marine is going to use his powers of the omniscient on my the orange dreadnought here with the gatling cannon so that it gets plus one to hit barney's gonna flip open the playbook so he's gonna mantra of strength himself on a three up oh baby does he's strong and he's a master of sanctity so he gets to do two litany of hate for all of them sweet sweet re-rolls no i've gone up to eight cp and i'm gonna drop down to six and i am going to desperate breakout with jt ooh jt yeah he runs for the hill so i have to roll the dice for each uh model in the unit and then on a roll of a one he dies but if not i get to get out of there huh oh oh j two dies sorry jt no jp because of this crater this dreadnought is reduced to only a six inch movement but that's okay go dreadnoughts in this eight inch movement one disaster and then i am going to advance with my aggressors the unit here that has steve tycho and tax still living in it they are going to throw up one of these play on banners on this objective here and then this unit back here uh is going to do the exact same thing i'm going to go to my shooting phase oh my goodness i'm going to start with my razor back here because i can only see one thing which is the unit of jean steelers so i'm going to shoot its storm bolter and its twin last cannon into the gene steelers there fours reeling ones because you're elites one ap minus one i lose the dc three rolling ones the tech marine is going to shoot his heavy bolter into the unit of jean sealers one more two or two more and the dreadnought is going to shoot is going to shoot its rockets and its gatling cannon into this gene stealer the rocket pod and the heavy gatling cannon includes the little gatling cannon steven is already split firing shots into the jean steeler and shots into the brood lord see it's not just me come on internet leave me alone look at him go t5 okay so on threes no re-rolls i shrug on fives d3 shots with the rocket on twos he's too damaging okay he's fine twin uh bolt rifle off of the biker and shoot into the brood lord [Applause] do i shrug i do not two of my aggres a bolt storm aggressors are gonna attack the tarmagants in the back of the board there and then three of the aggressors um are going to attack the jean steelers here 46 auto hits to the gene sealers aggressors now and more split firing who do you think you are steve me couldn't survive i cannot survive split firing sometimes is the way to go when you know you're going to overkill something and you can overreach a little bit so i'm not pulling a nick i'm not why because you're an alien threes no re-rolls because you're not in the leads saving on force sounds good whoa hot patootie look at that and he saves them all every single one tycho can i have those dice please and then my eradicators are going to shoot into your big monster this is the one that needs to go well for me yeah four is with the multi-melta with the multi-malta and then on forest with the heavy melted rifles one heavy melted rifle and one multi melta ap minus five so that kills my two up armor heavy melter rifle uh d6 plus two so five a multi melted just a d6 two and i'm going to command point re-roll that d6 into a two oh baby and into another two come on he didn't manage to pull down the taran effects and then my final shooting is gonna be from uh this dreadnought uh with the macro plasma incinerator and they're gonna go into the hormagans in the back so on threes lose five on two uh so four ap minus fours i imagine you still hold that objective i do who am i i will go into my charge phase where barney is going to really have at it i will charge i have a one inch charge i make it you made it i make it with all of the upgrades he should absolutely pulverize that brood lord all right barney time for you to do everything i wanted you to do you're gonna wind up and knock this thing out of the park for me is what you're gonna do he gets four tax base one for charging because of angels of death one for his warlord trade the imperium sword and then he gets one for his mantra of strength litany uh that he read out of his book so i get seven attacks on the charge which is sweet hitting on twos re-rolling ones because you're a tyranid and you smell funny fourth strength plus two for the benediction and fury plus one for his world of trait plus two for the salamanders world of trade plus one for the litany and he is gonna smash face with the whole thing it's going to be awesome i want you on twos i'm confused no oh my word that's four ones oh my wow three ap minus twos but because of the mantra strength for litany i'm damaged four so you have to fit past them all to avoid death oh i failed one you failed once to spin the command point to try and just pass it what do you have five up here or four up four up don't do it oh so close three okay so now you have to get one of these five hundred one of these five ups or else i am dead and gone [Music] [Applause] fights back [Applause] minus three i pass two i take two four six uh so he's got one wound remaining down to one wound with the chaplain oh no nothing happens in the moral phase but steven has killed two tyranid units and gains two tallies for suffer not the alien to live by killing two units he also scores grind them down end of turn one five for the death watch to two for the tyranids beginning the battle round i'm going to declare that i'm going to be in the assault doctrine and i'm going to use my hive tyrants synaptic imperative relentless ferocity in the command phase taika goes up to eight command points and scores a big 12 on primary by controlling two controlling three and controlling more objectives than stephen rapid regeneration i'll do it on mr yum yums you guys are going to get d3 wounds back three tyco uses the stratagem endless swarm for one command point bringing d3 plus three hormagans back into the unit all of that work the regeneration strats and the like regrouping strats ah and they're all so cheap why are they all one cp tap fix it tycho falls back the brood lord who can now fall back and charge [Applause] all right big old terran effects bounty advance is going to allow me to advance six flat and allow me to charge after advancing those hormones are now on steven's home objective so that is big trouble for the death watch because not only does that take down the banner but it will also deny steven the command point he would otherwise get in the command phase [Music] i'm going to spend another command point using enfolding strike on that unit of aggressors down there oh unfolding strike yes so i'm able to do a couple mortal wounds here which is excellent and uh make these guys infested so hopefully they're going to start spawning ripper swarms everywhere do the parasites land parasites so d3 mortals d3 mortals two whole mortal wounds like kills you kill this one psychic shenanigans brood lord is going to try and finish off your chaplain barney no oh steven your plan was solid but the execution was oh the super javelin i buffed it so much and it died to smite the tyranno fix benefits from catalyst yet again for me we'll smite those aggressors no that's a five down to three i'll reroll that goes off at seven two whole mortal wounds which kills this model here i will start with the hot guard sounds good uh three shots into your eradicators sure six into your heavy intercessors sounds good one hit one whole hit one four up nope two damage sounds good and then these six shots into the heavy [Applause] two hormones firing at your eradicators putting on fives okay nope swedes command effects it's gonna unload the tyrannofx is going to put everything into those eradicators one dies from the stinger salvo i fail too and now the acid spray the guy that's not in cover on fives he dies the guy that is in cover on force he dies really hard and the unit is wiped out oh no church time here we go turn fx four it's not gonna be enough pirate guard oh it ain't going anywhere either all right now daddy's got a command point reroll oh man if he fails this oh things could get wild okay take my lucky stars [Music] tycho manages to do almost all of his charges and the death watch are in real trouble now that's the charge phase in my fight phase start with my hormones i'm going to activate them they're going to pile in six big inches to get right around those uh heavy intercessors and i'm going to use adrenal surge to give them all plus one attack here we go so that's gonna be four attacks a piece i believe out of them now so i need these hormagans to do some real damage here and try and pull down some of these heavy intercessors 52 attacks out of those horror guns and taiko gets 12 successes through he only loses one heavy intercessor i'm going to spend two command points to interrupt and i'm gonna interrupt with my aggressors over here and then i'm gonna spend one command point to death to the alien uh so they all get plus one attack so we're just gonna go right into this swarmlord three attacks base and then one extra because they've been charged and then one extra because of death to the alien and then i reroll ones because thou art tyranids [Applause] eight ap minus fours then swarmlord fails three the blade parries one to ignore it so you take four damage in total brood lord piles in and those heavy intercessors are in for some hurt two intercessors die to the brood lord swarmlord let's do this he's got nine attacks [Applause] nope they all perish horribly the swarmlord wipes out those aggressors heavy intercessors take down four homogens but steve is on the back foot endometer kill team uh with the heavy intercessors uh they are going to on a six don't be a six okay good love it tyranids are going full aggression and while they didn't score any secondaries tygo did score two additional points for overrun so i have made a decision to push forward and not worry too much about my secondaries here early on uh i think that getting into steve's deployment zone taking the fight to him putting on some massive aggression here is going to be better than scoring the points i can by hanging out in the midfield and getting shot [Music] in a hole two objective mission this is now very tough for the death watch steven scores zero for primary and one point for raise the banner's high okay so the beginning of my turn unfortunately i scored zero points on primary uh i don't control my home objective so i don't get a command point i can just hopefully hunker down score myself some secondaries make sure i'm killing enough beat him on the scoreboard i'll be all right steven tries to use desperate breakout again and this leaves him with zero cp stephen moves what little he has left to try and take some objectives [Music] and then i'm gonna go to the shooting phase uh this dreadnought is gonna shoot everything into the hormagans oh no good old orangey now goes into those hormone gods with all of his shots and that wipes out the squad dead the tech marine detector is going to shoot at your brood lord neither i'm going to take the storm bolter off of the razorback and shoot it at the brood lord the last cannons and the hunter killer missile will go into so storm bolter into the brood lord he ignores it uh last cannons into the big thing two hits on threes oh and then the uh um the missile hits on threes wounds abs two gets two wow the razorback fails to do any wounds on the toronto facts oh man dreadnought gonna shoot everything into the high garden cover so d6 shots overcharged with the uh plasma four shots threes uh so three ap minus fours the dreadnought into the hive guard and only kills one so i go to charges this dreadnought is gonna charge the brood lord the owes uh with a nine that's a problem totally gets there and then uh that dreadnought is gonna uh charge the hive guard with us with an eight no problem the dreadnought uh back in my deployment zone into the brood lord come on baby all of them so five ap minus fours saving on fours two through two d three plus six uh so six seven eight nine nine ooh i gotta get lucky here the brood lord needs to shake off nine wounds but doesn't and he goes down brood lord down all right orange crushes the brood lord i will go to my other dreadnought [Music] the second dreadnought wipes out the hive guard yeah the hive guarded gone too space ring killing guns out of here end of death watch turn two steven was denied primary and failed grind them down but he did manage to take a few objectives away from taiko he killed three tyranid units for suffer not the alien steve is not out of this game yet but he's gonna have to work hard to make sure that tycho does not get too far ahead tycho gains a command point and with controlling two objectives total taiko scores four points on primary i am also buried in his deployment zone able to knock him off his home objectives hopefully really soon so that's going to cut out his command points i'm feeling good about keeping him down on primary i have a synaptic imperative still to use parasite use my swift onslaught while a snack of comparative is active each time a model in the unit makes a pile in or consolidation move it can move an additional three up to a maximum of nine stormlord gives domination of the mind to the hive guard for rerolls they also gain hive commander to become objectives secured i'll advance with my timer guard sure death leaper enters the fray and drops close to steve's whole objective my tarmacons are going to declare nachman data so they have captured some data i don't know what they've captured so i'm going to smite your dreadnought all right six goes off damage one whole piece of damage that so i have got 12 whole wounds remaining catalyst on my swarm lord himself at an 11. on the shooting phase parasite is going to perform an action in my shooting phase that ends at the end of the shooting phase and he's going to use his gestation sack toronto fix in the shooting phase kills one heavy intercessor the end of the shooting phase my gestation sack so that's four four hole rippers ripper swarms are birth and string out back towards that razorback oh man i really wish it said models all had to be placed within three units within three means he rolled the maximum amount and he was able to daisy chain and just stretch bad news for me charging with swim lord okay nine almost all the charges are made except for of course the death leaper i'm very disappointed in that i really wanted to see the death leaper fight he's just so cool no all the charges that matter make it my high fleet power to do plus one to my charges is really coming up big here time to fight all right so what goes first mr swarm board wow that's a lot of ones uh none of them uh three apiece down to two yeah i did not roll well to wound there and this dreadnought is not going to die right now um frustrating all right we got a game this is us the parasite finishes off the lone heavy intercessor damn i was really hoping my objective secured would stick around swarms hitting on five sweet that's a wound three up makes it best roll of the day right there dreadnought gets one attack through but with blade perry the swarmlord reduces the damage to zero oh blade perry very strong and a forbidden vault very strong formlord looks like he's gonna stick around a little while longer end of tyranids turn three and two more points for overrun and two more for engaging all fronts to take tycho to 24 points [Music] unfortunately no command points for steve as he does not control his home objective he does score four for primary and one banner to take a score to 16. we will need to see if steve can use what he has left to close the gap i believe in our patreon community army and i actually do believe in steve i have seen him come back from worse and the dreadnought goes off to chase tycho's home objective steven is doing everything he can to get points the tech marines running this way the end of his movement heal the dreadnought for d3 three oh yeah who's on bracket now he's always unbracketed you better believe this tech marine he's gonna shoot his heavy boulder into the parasite uh so on threes no re-rolls because i'm not allowed in fours uh so one ap minus uh one i avoid ap minus one saving on force okay and then i huck a crack grenade at oh nice threes [Applause] so d3 damage two whole damage then my dreadnought is gonna shoot everything into the swarm board do this oh yeah not bad four five and a nor on fives all right none of them sweet so you got under five and then three of these guns into here oh baby that's what's going on auto wounding on sixes one vulture that ignores cover oh it hits on six no the dreadnought over there i'm gonna call him fred he shoots his grenades into the close unit so the one on your back objective and then all of his other weapons are gonna shoot at the one over there [Applause] uh and then on twos three ap minus fours and then three shots from the rocket pod uh one ap minus one death and then the gatling cannon on freeze can't save that the grenades into the back unit save two of them okay so i got a little lucky uh in that steve split up his fire in a way that allows me to actually stay on both of these objectives for another turn and uh that's going to be pretty telling in the scoreboard after that we go to charges uh the tech marine is going to charge into the parasite four whole inches which i totally get we'll do it the kill team makes it into the rippers will we finally see steve and tak and tycho do something on the table and then the dreadnought uh charges into the guys in the back the dreadnought six seeds as well i'll start with the techmarine pretty good attack marine takes down the parasite steven might kill more and score grind the dreadnought fires everything into those guys in the back three dead dudes the same as uh even my s3's these guys here we'll do the infiltrators first three three rolling ones go tycho go threes don't save any of them one ripper swarm is down [Applause] did i just kill another one right five wounds in his middle bracket [Applause] armor of contempt i passed two i think two four six eight i live with i wound up yeah thank you tack i get to fight back cool with the do with the gun the gaunts do nothing to the dreadnought and the rippers don't do anything to the kill team swarmlord survives yet again with the blade parry whoa that's a tough ability to get through so i need to hit a two to hang around with my rivers yeah it's a two two three yep well the gaunts fail leadership they don't get wiped and stay in those objectives that was a very costly split fire end of death watch turn three steven did not score grind with the swarmlord surviving and none of those gone squads being destroyed this was a split fire that i'm not proud of sometimes it's reasonable this one is one where i probably should have just dumped everything into one of the units and made sure i got rid of them but i you know i didn't have that many use left i got to get greedy the score is closer though and stephen is poised to take away tycho's home objective 17 points for steve and 24 points for taiko let's see what turn 4 has in store with those gone surviving taiko gains a command point but more importantly he scores max points on his primary with hold one hole two and hold more for 12 primary points um that's a big swing i've really managed to to force steve off of his objectives and it's showing on the scoreboard starting in the movement phase here go the timer guns they're out of here run away [Music] psychic shenanigans swarmlord will attempt to give himself a shrug catalyst goes off at a seven and he'll smite the dreadnought goes off at an 11. he does d6 for six whole mortal wounds see if it explodes could be nick's not in the country so it's probably not orange dreadnought has finally gone down bye-bye orangey you did so well charging with the tyrant guard tycho doesn't seem to care for shooting at this point he just wants to kill everything in close combat oh tycho we love you for it [Laughter] well doesn't he get a plus one though he does will free do it yeah he makes double ones uh all right so stormy's just gonna try and finish ted and that's gonna be the turn ap minus four uh so because a minus three five eyes i make one two three four of them three go through but it's nine damage and i die that was a big turn for tycho he scores overrun again he scores engaging all fronts again and he finally gets a bring it down that takes his score to a commanding 43 points [Music] steve has a lot of ground to make up but is actually positioned to do so i know exactly what he needs to do split fire to victory this drives here for two points these guys here i'm gonna crack grenade rippers and then three bolt guns into the rippers threes explode and then the uh crack grenade no and then the dreadnought uh will go plasma and uh gatlin cannon into the two dudes over there to a plasma and then the rest of the guns into the ones in front of them split fire everything split fire for victory split fire a couple of dead dudes hold on to this objective if i make six sixes here no did not make six sixes no he did not this unit back here they're going to charge your ripper swarm arms eight totally does the sergeant plus tycho they're going first three rolling ones [Applause] uh four ap minus ones [Applause] take three damage so i got kills the swarm because i have a wounded swarm back there correct and then six off the incursors so this is attacking steve do and tack and steve things all of them oh stick on threes steve's mad at me oh no i'm not gonna kill them three ap minus twos one swarm survives with one wound three yeah rip a swarm roll four he's dead space marine steve coming through with some clutch plays what little he has left was able to score grind them down and kill more for suffering not the alien he also continues to score overrun the tyranids lead 43-25 and it will be interesting to see what steve can do since the death watch will score at the end of the game and not in the command phase taiko scores only four points for primary the scoreboard is pretty telling but steve has options and he is a fighter and i know he's not going to give up he's going to get back in here and score some more points i have very thin in my backfield i'm pretty sure he's going to be able to make some moves swarmlord moves to take a big charge into the kill team spike first okay it's my first here we go six damage two uh you kill this acid spray oh tyranno fix acid sprays everywhere i love that thing i love not rolling to hit and multiple damage on a automatic hit weapon is an awesome awesome combo five at mostly attack sorry buddy uh minus three zeros minus two five ups nope tack dies sorry attack no no stevie's hanging out in cover so four ups nope he does two guy on the middle no he does steve tack and tycho are all dead and the entire kill team is dead and that was really weird to say the score remains unchanged but overrun is scored at the end of the battle and right now tychos could score six more points unless steven does something about it important to note is steve scores at the end of the battle round so let's see what kind of work he can put in to get as many points out of this game as he can and do honor to the death watch i see some points left on the table and i can have actually a really big turn here i think i think razorback's going to take down the trend effects i'm going to hold his back objectives i'm going to score a bunch of primary points here on the last turn watch and then this razorback touches this piece of terrain and i'm gonna shoot this that's what's happening here the storm bolter and the last cannons into that all right so maxing it out with his unit holding his objective in steve's zone that brings him to a total of 51. i wish i could add more than 10 points for paint each because both armies are just so awesome i won
