David Phelps Introduces his Mom and Dad

[Music] you know this has been great getting to know these four wonderful individuals all over again and what a better place to rehearse and have some fun together and a scenic river boat ride to downtown san antonio and then back at the majestic theater we were so grateful to find ourselves surrounded by friends and family for this very special occasion this is my dad gene phelps and this is my mom my beautiful mom mariella phelps i wouldn't be here doing this if it weren't for them they drove me to every church every every possible place that i could sing and encouraged me and told me if i'd uh sang well and told me if i didn't sing well all the time and but you gotta have that and uh i have no bigger supporter than these guys so they're a big part of what i do [Music] there you go that's them and are you happy to have david phelps back texas texas oh wow y'all are great thank you so much do you know how much fun we're having up here it does it show we are having a blast getting to sing with each other mark and wes and michael and bill and uh i'm telling you i uh these great songs that we get to sing you know i grew up listening to it is finished and he touched me and because he lives and you know none of us would have a job if it weren't for gloria gaither you know that and that includes bill too he wouldn't have a job either without those great lyrics and uh it's just a privilege to sing these songs you know i grew up in this family that music was an incredibly important part of everyday life for us and i always tell people my parents had season tickets to the opera but we we never missed dolly parton when she came to town and we had every bill and gloria gaither recording that was ever put out you know is he is he listening to that i hope you heard that um but uh i will never forget the first time that i heard an operatic arya it was my mom actually gave me the recording and it was pavarotti singing and i just fell in love with it i loved it every every bit of it i just i loved it i i listened to every syllable learned every syllable i learned every note wanted to sing it just like him and i had no idea what i was singing about whatsoever no idea until years later when i learned that uh he was thinking about how fickle women are i guess some things are true in every language [Applause] oh come on i'm kind of kidding i um i uh no but it didn't take me long to become really grateful for you know this is a rough journey sometimes it can be rough and i'm so grateful to the creator that he gave us these little glimpses of great art you know a great sculpture a great painting and when i heard this song it lifted my soul and i hope it does the same thing for you
