I remember reading simple he's like I've never heard Daisy play oh yes he did say that I was like Dave alright Dave's on time Mike's there you go check check yes yes maybe on time man of course I'm 44 years old them but goddamn profession you do realize it f-bombs MF errs insertion in any orifice can't do any of that oh this is live yeah five million people listen Marty part driver that kids to school you know on the way to work all right that's what streamed around the world so duly noted my fault yeah Dave Chappelle ladies and gentlemen is it's doing so many shows here in New York City I made sure to print them out cuz I knew he doesn't know who's gonna walk here to go I don't quite know which I mean I know what's going on but it's a lot of moving parts in this run so can I think what made you and I mean you've done it before but what is the joy you have bringing the music in the comedy together what all right just like all of you I'm I'm a fan of music yeah and you know from Chappelle's Show like a lot of these people that I'm working with our friends of Matt if I don't know them personally then I'm at least at the very least a mire of them and it's good man when people get together and a lot of egos have to be pushed aside for so I'll be able to work together it is a joy man but that's got is it like an extra bonus like you you knew you wanted to be successful in comedy but then you've gotten to play this awesome sort of hip-hop and Bassett er role as sort of a bonus like everyone a hip hop loves Chappell and it's willing to put their thing aside to come do your show which is pretty cool I mean will it's like everyone in the room we're all part of the culture we might not rhyme and stuff but you know what I mean like if you have commentary on a rap record people will give you legitimacy because you've proven that you know we're of this culture commentate on it you know but for me it's I wouldn't even consider myself an ambassador I'm a fan like everybody else it just means and I'm lucky enough to get to know some of the best practitioners of this job and you have some of these practitioners doing your shows oh yes I do some very best job and it's also the first time that I'll be co-headlining like Chris Rock guys that big don't ever get to do shows together so like me and Chris is gonna do two nice together so we got some special guests coming through it's gonna be a swell time and their chick is still available there are still tickets available Cory yes but they're going like hotcakes New York hurry up get the internet running the felon tickets are selling albums this is the official Dave Chappelle taking over Ebro in the morning we're gonna wake Dave up we're gonna be back new cameras just what are these new cameras you brought it in for well you know if you do something this big you got a documentary you don't do this every year in your career the thing is this is a special year for me the end of this run will be my 44th birthday the last night of this run Wow which will mark the beginning of my 30th anniversary in comedy Wow yes you know I mean if I was a military guy I could retire now nice well pinch as a matter of fact the media ice welp engine I could retire right I think you could Dave if you wanted to retire I think you'd be straight some would say you did retire for about 12 years before coming back well unbeknownst to them I was slaving away hey everybody listen the hot 97 apparently with hip hop and R&B live I'm comedian Dave Chappelle I'm joining Ebro in the gang this morning promoting my upcoming Radio City run which is going to be epic now Ebro you would ask me earlier who are some of the people participating starting tomorrow night for the next four nights I will be there with the roots join the roots of course yes the special guest little Wayne Wow ice cube comedy the young Vince staples offense love it a big boy from Outkast and many more and then the weekend Saturday and Sunday I will be there with Chris Rock I'm following week August 9th the lovely miss Erykah Badu joins us and then on August 15th we have a very special guest oh wow this gets us so special weight has just been announced yet Oh announced I believe it might even be sold out and nobody even knows who the special guest is and the guest is so special that I can't even say who it is oh damn I was gonna give you a drum roll in there I had a bomb at the flex bomb here it's a flex bomb its especially it's very special guest was a very special guest it's a very special occasion what do you think will bring out you know there ladies and gentlemen Chubby Checker I am Ken he's gonna be great now Dave question um this many shows Radio City unprecedented for a comedian yes nobody's ever done this before someone has I shouldn't say I believe Bill Cosby has a record for Jaime Rosenberg you really quick with that yeah yeah but no but actually I think that the at the end of this run we will exceed that that attendance record this is pretty cool and all is it extra special that it's Radio City there's a certain aura of Radio City that thing he does mean a lot to me you know like the first time that I did a show that was larger than a comedy club was at Radio City I was 19 I was opening for Aretha Franklin and then I didn't come back to Radio City to whatever everyone we did three years ago to three years Wow yeah it's a special place man it is it's a lot of people don't realize just how long you're running comedy was we had I interviewed david alan grier a couple weeks ago and he was talking about you too unsure you guys been on the same shows when you were like 16 years old 15 years old right yeah man I care like yeah I'm like because I was so much younger than my peer group you know I've been around for a long time but you know I also I go through this thing where I feel like I'm older than I am because my peer group is like a decade well it's a david alan grier for example you've known him for 30 years wherever he's 58 or something like that yeah yeah it's like it's like that 2:58 are you sure he's 58 he he was shockingly oh he told when he told me I was like whoa maybe 60 shock isn't that shocked I was shocked I'm shocked at even under Fela 62 I'm at one time I was thinking Murphy were watching television and in like Sanford and Son was on and he goes I am as old now his Redd Foxx was on the first season of samurai I was like oh my god he goes I miss old now it's Carol Connor was on the first season of all in the family yeah but my daddy he's still look the same he really does yeah we eat something we eat better or definitely more money yeah definitely more money oxygen chambers nutritionist no he's right though he's right you know people of affluence don't age the same way as the people you know I mean but I would say Dave you don't see you don't strike me as necessarily a nutritionist kind of guy oh absolutely not but I mean but I live well you do live very well yeah and and and I have effectively minimized my stress exercise and all of these factors I think will contribute to my quality of life maybe not the length of my life no the gay buy-busts catch some kind of wild cold a zebra something so I just don't worry about I just I just chill and do shows that I'd dream about there's like a famous show living the dream well you know that our good friend cipher sounds often often tells me about you his favorite thing about being around you is that you live the ultimate life in that you do exactly what you want to do on the timeline you want to do it well sure looks that way it really does you go to all the fights you love fights right so you always go to all the fight will you be at McGregor Mayweather okay that fight I might not actually attend because you're worried I could like to evolve into like a boga lot of riot or something no because it has all the suspense of a Globetrotter are you to watch it at all yeah all right wait wait let's start with Saturday you guys are both in the building in Brooklyn yeah Dave you went Laurie you want yes Laura how did you feel about the fight Wow I told you guys to yeah we had just had the interview with Adrien Broner here so I felt a little different about him like I felt sorry for him everybody looks at me like I'm crazy because I felt sorry for him why because I felt like when we brought up the mental health issues and then you know the way who you just reacting and you guys brought up mental health issues oh yeah we had to he's trying to commit suicide he was a he gotta get put a gun on the ground it was bugging out I didn't know that yeah and I just kind of felt like I'm talking about how so many people depend on him and I feel like everybody's using him and I don't know I just I had this character in my head okay you guys went that deep on warning radio all the time people were driving the school when I was at the fight I was feeling different I didn't know that the whole entire Barclay center hated him everybody nobody was rude affirming he'd lost the entire fight well I wouldn't say nobody was rude it wasn't quiet in there at least on my side it was quiet because you know the fight wasn't that eventful for casual boxing fans a real boxing fan is going to at least get caught up in the suspense of can these guys accomplish the things that trying to accomplish within the parameters of giving around but casual boxing fan doesn't understand why why are they punching each other at one point Garcia was like hit me hit me boom-boom are you sore you you're not interested you're not particularly interested or excited by Mayweather McGregor no no I didn't say that I mean it's exciting but it's just like I'm not gonna go and it mean listen man listen Floyd Mayweather is probably training as we speak yes and as he's training do you know what Conor McGregor is doing learning how to bark right right he can fight a guy that was born with boxing gloves on right it's clubs so it's just like I just don't see how I'm a great can do it and in your situation when you go to a fight you sit in the most expensive seats in the house and there are they always comped when you get those seeds so you sometimes have to pay right so you have to weigh if you're gonna buy the most expensive ticket is it worth it to drop 70 grand to go watch this fiat now I will say about the mcgregor mayweather fight there is such a spectacle that that in and of itself is worth singing then i feel like no matter what happens conor mcgregor is a very big winner and talked himself into a lot of a lot of money this is first fighting is to fight the very best and i just feel like that's what the fights gonna look like yeah i agree with you do you uh we got a little bit weirded out when the racial overtones have gotten a little you said it off the air earlier but i say it boxes races and been races a long time I'm going with Floyd Mayweather just because he's black not because I like him as a person and I know he's a better fighter you know I honestly man the racial over time for what I do my ears are a lot less sensitive to most people's and in my heart of hearts I believe that these guys are great fighters you know McGregor is from a different genre of fighting but it's not like I don't respect what he does I just don't think he's as good boxing specific right so a lot of people will say Floyd Mayweather should act a certain way because of his stature as celebrity and I propose that perhaps his excellence is his message because he's really really good at boxing like in that circle square he might be one of the most confident people on earth when he's doing what he actually does he's great and life is complicated everyone messes up in life but can everyone box that good and so I enjoy for me and I enjoy Conor McGregor and I I don't get bent out of shape about things he says because I know he's getting a fighter guy and I'm sure he has to feel deep in his heart he's gonna whup his ass and it's a lot of money to take that ass woman I would let Floyd Mayweather beat me up for that kind of money if you want to take a fight with me I'd do it that would be you here first ladies and gentlemen drumroll be slightly less competitive than when she goes the other twice coming in Netflix next to Dave Chappelle special Chappell Chappell verse Mayweather how will they get my ass whipped out well you take the just go down you have some opening bell win I just jump on the floor cavity and welcome life goes on minute kind of legal well speaking at Netflix on were you happy with the way your specials were received that's a good question you know what do be honest yeah sure I mean the one thing about putting anything out is you can't control how it's gonna be received and I think people will buy a large very fair I'm thoughtful about how it was received are you working in another one oh yeah oh yeah yeah yeah look out there's no one coming soon are these Netflix people around us as we speak no no no no no but they are everywhere Dave are you into the jay-z album four four four yes yeah everybody's in today everybody well you know listen man I'm agin it I am for for fun I'm turning forty four mil you know guys this guy's saying step that would hear.i and I can understand all the words so you know you're not a big fan of songs where you can't understand words oh I didn't say that I mean but it's just like is this a record foot person of my time matters care and it's the first time I think that a guy of his age can make a relevant record and it's fun to see a job or like hip hop be mature like this this guy's jay-z is like he's like a guy he went to space and came back bro he's a billionaire from Brooklyn from Morrissey I I appreciate that it was fun to see that and we never knew that if everyone thought hip hop was a young man's game because it hadn't been around long enough to allow people to age but hope could keep putting out albums like Bruce Springsteen or paulsen I'm in or anyone like that and to his credit like for instance if I have that kind of money you would never see my ass again I guarantee it I would I would maybe do comedy and clubs or something but it wouldn't necessarily be out here promoting anything I don't even promoting he's got he owns title he just throws it up on title nobody's seen him talk to him 9:00 he don't I don't think he's with his babies he's with the babies you're gonna go on tour when he wants to you make a good point yeah I don't think you would so if you owned Netflix you put up a comedy special when you felt like it or would I or not or not and that would me I mean you know I just respect the fact that that he's been so true to game for so long how big a fan were how early did you become a whole fan cuz you're a real hip-hop head were you on reasonable doubt like when it came out reason that was a big record man streets was watching that was a big record I mean you know I remember that stuff it was dope was fun to watch back in those days I used to see him around in New York like if you should go out at night a couple spots you'd always run into him like dirtiest and you just see you and he got his varsity jacket fairly early yeah legend status yeah fairly early he was you went damn you straight to the big kids table yeah and he did it pretty quick we had big kids table money early 2000 that helped ya little bagging the day was a big deal that he made a hundred grand at the Apollo yes was 50 grand to a guy like him please remind them did you uh what other what other recent albums you've been sitting with Dave never I love that Kendrick record that kids doing it a kid is perfect reflection of many great influences like you know when he's probably coming up losing the music I think he had a good diet yeah yeah it's the way he refines it I like him well he's fun he's fun to watch too have you seen him live have you had a chance well do the Beatty Awards count oh and then he opened for Kanye that one run yes iam laugh yeah yeah that's right yeah when he open for ye on was the easiest what do you have you spent any time digesting the the whole of lines on his album about Kanye no you know what man I don't get lost in the woods trying to decide for jay-z lyrics if I really really want to know I'll call somebody and be like and ask them who's your go-to call for explain hip hop lyrics to me I don't know Mose if I could regional yes you had the chance to interview Kendrick for Interview magazine what was that like and were you able to just talk to him about whatever you wanted yeah man he was he was pretty he wasn't a defensive dude man I think he understood I came in peace and I'm a fan I'm a fan of his and I think the thing that I was impressed by him was that each of you sent a very introspective and thoughtful you know I mean I don't think he puts it down I think he stays and probably creative zone guys like you can tell me talk to guys sometimes like you know the guys working through problems they didn't necessarily have to work he's figuring it out yeah and you just want to do now I enjoyed that conversation now granted when I when I spoke to him I was in the back of a car on the road on my way to like dinner and he was in the middle of you know God knows what so if I had in a perfect world I would like to have sat down with him face-to-face and had more of a conversation like what happened there what like whatever now but you know there's actually talk talk but he was very open and especially consumer on the phone and you know there's a guy from Interview magazine recording the conversation things there's a lot of moving parts and and he never put his guard up he didn't sound tired or evasive or anything he just talked do you believe in a lot of times in the hip-hop conversation people of course laud Kendrick for his lyrics and me being the the foremost to do because you're not hungry maybe because he can't drink nut hugger of a generation you hear that kids going to school in the back okay but but a lot of people that give Drake a hard time because of the thing that was brought out about the lyric writing etc do you think when you talk about all-time greats to you do you use that as a strike against Drake or do you still you really consider Drake to be an all-time great as well these types of questions are tough listen when it comes when it comes to hard right results matter so if I listen to a Drake record and I like it and then somebody comes behind it and starts telling me everything that's in the hot dogs I still I ate the hot dog and I like it's done right you know I mean however if I'm making art I would I would rather do it myself got it that for me part of it is like what can I come up with and I'm engaging these people but I don't mind people that make their art via committee if there's you know I don't know what to do cuz the results like you said the results may not be talking about his circumcision your birthday's coming up it's the last day I radio city how do you celebrate your birthday I know you have some special surprises on the show by how do you save life though yeah yeah explains okay after I quit my show I don't remember I don't remember how old I was at what but I remember I was like on the walkabout and I I I started riding motorcycles so I rode my motorcycle like from Ohio and then I was like in Austin Texas which took a long time and it was my birthday and I was riding up 6th Street and Austin and I saw some bar pull the bar over and I walked in you know it was like later like maybe 2:00 in the morning so one meet people there like a wild a ship out and he ever microphone like yeah guys one of the DJ booth and I stand that DJ booth and I did a set and this one Twitter was still like new and I you know I didn't know that one field buddy because it was tweeting like drinking dumbbells crazy stuff and I probably rock for like who I was that night one of the best birthdays I can remember recently another time I was in Colorado and I ended up doing this show with common was there visiting his dad and he came Iraq with us and you know there's spontaneous yeah we have birthdays you know my birthday the way I celebrate him was I try to make a memory that I'll treasure like my best birthday I can remember my 16th birthday because I had such a good time what was it I was in DC and a bunch of my brothers surprised and my brother took me to our old neighborhood he goes here man was like reminiscing and stuff and then a bunch of our friends from elementary school was sitting in a park bench and surprised me and I had a show a comedy club in DC that night we all went to the comedy club and it was the first time they never seemed to perform it was fun and the emcee was a guy named Patton Oswalt who's a pretty name famous name yeah yes yeah but we mean I remember all these birthdays you know comedy is what I like to do on my birthday I'm doing exactly what I need to be doing yeah I was gonna say you're living in a drink you are truly living your dream well the thing is though but it's not easy you know I I sincerely make a point literally I I make a point to manufacture quality memories cuz it's the only thing I believe they can't take away give us a little insight to those parties you've been throwing in and a barn in Iowa Oh which one's the other places you get sign off on that talk to you I want to talk about how you got sign off on them now we the party is like it's a juke joint man it's like we put full production in my neighbors barn and we rock out I got this band I called a band with no name really it's just a bunch of people I poached from Stevie Wonder and different artists come through and just rock out on the bar but you gotta understand where I live this is the Big Dance there's no cellphones in there and none of my shows we don't have cell phones so your margin of error socially is a little wide if you know that you're not going to get filmed and in God [ __ ] and people come through John Legend rock that Tribe Called Quest Rock there and we've got all kinds of chants are then fetch answers were a chance rock with those ones most rock worthless ones Dale I ride with us in London ed sheeran came by and letting right after you done Wimbley Stadium man and it came with a little loft in London we just rock out and you get to see people do stuff that you wouldn't normally see them do big artists come it's like there's no ego I'm not paying anybody anything people just do it it's all love man we all just look out for Joe the pivotal moment in our relationship right now Dave Chappelle Wow um you brought a bed sharing which made me think of Game of Thrones earlier on the show I pissed a lot of people off who listened to the program because there's people I can't afford HBO so I don't watch Game of Thrones and I assaulted people's intellect I said look if you don't watch Game of Thrones intellectually you and I are in a different place and my place is better than yours Wow so I know it's coming right Dave Chappelle do you watch Game of Thrones them Thrones you're watching them throne of course I do yes yes last night to drag you know funny I got on late I like binge watching caught up because I should be on the two of us and it was a couple nerds on my bus always be talking about it and they do hear bits of the conversation at dragons and all this I'm like man sound way and then I started watching it man yeah I just can't suck and it was and then you would chime in about the dragon yeah yeah yeah yesterday Alexis dad my wife's father wrote her was like she said she was like dad did you watch Game of Thrones and he's like no I'm at dinner I didn't get I didn't see it don't spoil it she was like damn the Dragons ate eight Jon Snow sad but it's uh it's a it's a it's a special kind of show I have mixed feelings about Ed Sheeran's appearance but it wasn't it wasn't bit having here this is what I care about Dave you know a lot of white people how much and for the people for for people who don't watch Game of Thrones there's a whole movement about how Game of Thrones really can teach you about white people and the things that motivate them what is this article in though it's always on a black site it's black comedy and they started to ashtag Thrones y'all and all that Twitter stuff they they're part of that do you feel for the people who don't watch Game of Thrones that there is anything to learning white people through Game of Thrones well why don't we say it like this why don't we say that Game of Thrones illustrate certain calm concepts that are part of the power the dynamics of power okay and the manipulation of power and leverage in in high-end situations be like if you made a show about 50 Cent's book the 48 laws of power okay loves power suit yeah I mean you know and why people are often powerful and I walk of life so maybe in that sense because the article goes on to talk about the Dragons our white privilege now alright then I going to know because Daenerys is just born with these dragons that you just fire on anybody at any time she ain't got to worry about you can't Bernie count Harmon can't do nothing yes I got thinking about that got to digest it I don't know that ring they didn't they immediately ring true and then they said winter went to the what do they call the white walkers mm-hmm the white walkers so who are the white water white walkers is racism there's always coming this so much more dangerous from the KKK the KKK are pathetic it's racism okay the white walkers a terrifying God we're in DC were you born Washington Hospital Center and what what section of DC did you grow up in well sever ice livin Silver Spring from like 0 to 10 and I'm running northeast on his Capitol Street did you hear the the really sad DC news from the weekend that cool disco day and died yes a legend cool disco Dan passed away the year their country big he would say for people listening may not know he was a iconic graffiti artist and his tag cool disco Dan I mean Dave your entire life must have been seen I'm from I'm from Montgomery County so I only saw it some but in DC you saw it all the time you know you've seen on the bus like written on the sea this guy was ubiquitous he wrote on he just wrote it all over the city cool disco Dan and then at a certain point it's like some Turk 182 Stella's certain point people were like who is cool disco today and it was a paper in DC that went and found this guy and he was like a street lit he was like he was like a local like it was a funny reference locally and that's passed away just passed away and there's a great documentary that came out a couple years ago about him that's phenomenal there's a documentary about cool dude yeah yeah I'll I'll send it I'll send it to you I got it I got a DVD of it it's phenomena are phenomenal but yeah rest in peace cool disco Dan Dave you are I have some shows announcing today what's the deal man Radio City more Radio City date yes going on course and all the shows are will there be more added after this or just the last well I guess we're like some of these some of these are sold out man but on August 17 chance of rappers joining me Oh 18th I'm co-hosting with the Daily Show's Trevor Noah and then of course Donald Glover a cake childish gambino on the 19th and on August 20th miss Lauren Hill yeah and then on August 23rd a day before my birthday I've read that with my brothers yessing Bay and Telep quality is going to be [ __ ] I was talking about Trump gotten born for you you were part of SNL skit when the you guys did the whole launching day did do you guys did a great skit the the black people watching the Trump results was a great great phenomenal was actually and that cuz that seemed very you the idea of being subnautica you know the night the night that he won the writers room and as Nell stopped and that was my attitude like yeah well you know I was more worried about coming back to television then I was about what it happened in the elation right I live in oh how I could see them coming you knew this was gonna happen but you could see that it's possible I travel the country in tell jokes and I felt a climate where it was conceivable that this guy running that campaign could beat that candidate yeah you could see it in New York you can't tell right you know I always talk about Mexicans and getting high see you know New Yorkers don't know what about Mexicans and we know ice but not like not like Texas not like Arizona not like west of the Mississippi you know and on in the coastal cities you just don't know was popping in the middle you don't know so a that night were you guys still at as are now working on election night yeah it was eerie man cuz the they were doing this thing on at the skating rink at Rockefeller where they were projecting the winners of states on the ice and the windows were open cuz I was smoking in the office and you could hear like every few minutes when they call us saying hey Oh out the window so it was like really like you immersed in it and there was TV screens and I'm telling you as the night went on and stayed after stake started calling down Trump before that riders room got quiet like nobody wrote anything and cats were devastated but you know showing on everything where goes well it ends well and that episode got nominated for an Emmy so we'll see how it right silver lining yeah ironically the episode from the week before it was nominated for an Emmy too so I probably won't win but yeah this may give him all that happened that week I was very impressed well I remember the night of the election I uh I was working for complex doing this party and when I started getting the information from family I have that knows a lot more than me that it was going bad common showed up and the one up I wanted to come and I was like I was like calm she's gonna lose and that was the first moment I realized that progressive black people though saddened by it were not as surprised as I was he kind of looked at me like and I was like my whole life had fallen apart in front of me and it just seemed like my black friends did not it take it the same way it just was not a surprise in the same way I think I was surprised that the factions that control the way things go would allow this I didn't think he would get as far as he got in his campaign when he got that far I remember we would talk about on there and be like all right if y'all want this guy to be president it's not gonna affect my pocketbook but boy this is gonna be embarrassing yeah yeah me you know I don't know I mean this guy will we live in man what we're doing was looking all these things that happened he's just not the biggest game in town like the biggest threats of America's America you know we when it comes down to it we either fighting against each other or fighting for each other you know and his rhetoric is divisive but in the world of cause and effect maybe it's a good thing for instance Hillary Clinton didn't unite the women Vogler's play that Wednesday morning they was united like maybe it'll just save everybody rags that's that's what we've started to hope for yeah that we are in a hope we are we are in a enjoying watching people because I find myself happy that people have a common enemy I feel like right like I feel like people want like it's the first time in in my time and media that I feel like people yearn for information they want to learn I've learned and a lot you know I was thinking about this yesterday I don't think I've ever used the word collusion in my life before the last six months via game remembering the word collusion casual sentence and now we know okay well there is getting better government protocol we're getting an education because every time it breaks government protocol they tell us what protocol these Americans are learning a lot right now and this is the first time that maybe a boater will actually be educated and can and can figure out how the car works a little bit does Trump make it four years oh my god we gambling yeah Oh Wanda yeah I must say he'll make it through four years because the the Gov the mechanics of government is slow so even if they try to get him out and take them five years of get them out yeah you know there's a get another term I doubt it I don't know who the other side's gonna run well yeah I think you I think today that was Tara manatee would well you live in Ohio for how long now a I was living know how when we doing Chappelle's Show like when we finished alright I'll go back to the farm why did you decide on Ohio why did that become the place because my parents split up when I was a kid and my daddy lived that there and he got real sick in like 98 so I would drive back and forth from New York you know and is like no good hotels where I live so I just bought a house there and then I and at certain point I just moved into the house mmm then when I quit the show I moved back into the house just like I was just gentlemen because he is a treadmill like I could live in New York I can afford it but it I would have to work all the time but in Ohio I could do that for a long time that way those pay as far as people out there know I don't work they never seem to work and I'm sure the house you got was lovely and I mean ridiculously affordable and you can paint just pay for it all and sit on it yeah ridiculously full that's it what no came my life does have is extravagances I'm not gonna front but my the core of what my life is is is very simple what are the extravagances I I know you do private jet sometimes yeah or all the time you go to these great fights and you know sometimes I peacock a little bit and rock some fly stuff and you know I got my I mean every peacock please explain you know do peak are some faster put on some clothes like show out the fabric I like this dress amazing it is like I'm wearing all status symbols god but you don't do that often right like no no how do you decide when you when you're gonna show out uh well that's a good question I guess I don't know man you know why I do it though some people like me more I want everybody think I'm cool and all those nice you know but I'm not really into clothes like that I'm not a fashionista but everyone's and wives when people know that I can do your kids ask you for extravagant getting things no my kids are very simple really good things like very much don't really have a relationship with with what is I do this last year because things been going so well they'd be laughing because they see some of the changes around it but they don't they're not on that well we live like stuff like that is important to a kid in New York like this sneakers and stuff this very little social capital and that for my kids so they are you able to are people used to you out there so like you and your kids can go out without you being mobbed will that's a crazy thing so I live in the heart of Trump country and you know I can move around there people are generally nice to me they stop talk to me all the time but but they're used to me well you know I'm just like I mean that right now this like I'm the Warriors or something I'm like a local team they root for they did they're proud of me like no it's really cool our neighbors doing this stuff and they saw me what I was going through it and now they see me now I'm saying I'm just having vastly better time there's a lot of black people worth it it's mixed miss media it's Ohio is that yeah we got a deal well I feel just like I lived in that closest big city I haven't by 15 minutes away from my date you know Roger travelens a black people yeah you know it's it's politically diverse where I live is a very liberal town it's like it's it's like a very far left hands like a Bernie Sanders island in the Trump seat it's a lie red out there but but in town it's if I were you I people travel people do cool stuff it's cultured it's just not New York no would you say um I mean I'll say it but I want to know your opinion I believe that you're the most multicultural as far as the people who appreciate Dave Chappelle a comedian that we've seen in the last I mean since Eddie Murphy right that's Eddie's a great example of it also totally cross-cultural yeah yeah I appreciate you know Chris Rock - I would say Chris Rock - but I think so I think I think that it got I don't know my life is diverse you know I mean like I see the world I go you know all these guys you come to the station we all travel the world and this day and the other and our worldview gets big and week and then come comedy we talk about more things as more people listen to you the more things you know about other the more things they recognize cool man do you think it helped that you were like the the half-baked yeah I was gonna say you and Jim Breuer right you guys did this movie that was like such a cross it was just a stoner movie it was for everyone who's a son you gotta help set it off in that direction I mean it listen I don't knock any of the stuff that I did because everything helped in some way for fashion even even if the help was it just inform me about something but I don't know I don't take that kind of inventory for me like if I Alan I just remember from the inside I don't know what other people think about the time I did and I try not to seek that information out there have been a couple times I might have drank something and googled myself but I'm trying not to like swim in the deep water of other people's opinions and you see you don't get over impacted by my reaction to stuff like you know I'm a [ __ ] I'm always looking at Twitter and getting upset comments are comments he doesn't ever really do that Laura's gonna die I'm bad are you affected by stuff like that or you're good at removing yourself oh my god dude I'm not on Twitter no Facebook no Instagram I don't do any of that stuff you know the only way I know about stuff is cuz everyone else just tells me about my wife it gets real bad she'll let me know you should look into this a lot of people saying why don't let me know but for the most part man I just I try not to pay attention it because you don't want it you don't want to be careful as a comedian you know I mean I try to keep my business like small enough so it could still be authentic enough you know there's you know you get on the big stage you gotta be a little more careful so I stay off the big stage while in New York will you be popping up in 10 a.m. these local comedy clubs can't help himself last night it was worth it we got it in a win with the Comedy Cellar last night and we went to village on the ground last night right before that I was at random I was I'm going to go check tribe how much try bi panorama yesterday it was great man you know great did you ever know Jareau B could rap so well no did you know we can cook so well yes album came out I was like wait who's the other guy rapping yeah and they were like it's Jareau be like dro be raps yeah what you know this verse is fine they're good verse he got a few on there now looks good Dave are you do you have a do you have any guilt or concern about your smoking habit I'm someone who loves smoking I'm currently not but I always live with sort of guilt when I'm smoking now you're fidgeting too empty pack about cigarettes cigarettes not weed I know you don't care about weak but doesn't haven't guilt about now it does it concern you like your have any fear about it we're never getting into a more philosophical conversation are both those pockets empty see they're both relatively after here they were of empty fear no no I think that if I quit smoking it would improve the quality of my life perhaps in some ways but not necessarily the length of my life I'm a fatalist I think you just everything is what it is so you but why do you think then then how would it improve the quality like can I can probably breathe bed and walk up a flight of steps but but you also need to enjoy smoking right as I'm saying is what I said in some ways improves quality with my wife sure we'll miss sitting in that easy chair then ashtray relaxing or talking with your buddy you know thing you know that now I sound like a commercial stickers but I tell ya as I started smoking I do think I started smoking because of the comedy I was walking in Metro Center DC cigarette company was doing a promotion they gave me a pack of cigarettes Metro said I was 14 years old now got to tell you I've also robably looked really young so if anything ever happens to me smoking related oh I'm coming but you smoked it you were like oh this is delightful yeah was the only I was even crazier than that I perceive as oh you know what I'm gonna learn how to smoke and like comedy self I didn't realize that it gets so good because at first I'm guessing you first took one you like all this is bad no one really enjoys their first cigarette but I didn't get nauseous at all from the first one well you know I almost ISM but I want to say what brand it was you're scared they'll come for you or I don't want to be like with that promotional cigarette pack really did work out we just got a plug on I finally paid off right now I got yeah man I mean I think eventually I woke with smoking it's like bad habit you know I get it but it is what it is some guy from the eighties like even when I think about comedy my dreams it's always like smoky rooms like the first time they were like you can't smoke in economy cuz I just felt like strange because it was such a part of the fabric of the isn't it nice that you're so famous that whenever I've seen you perform a comedy you're always smoking in comedy clubs where you can't smoke cigarettes well no thank god that'll work that I made it just in time Dave Chappelle ladies and gentlemen I appreciate you taking over the show today well man listen anything you didn't say that you want to say before you get out of it man first of all I appreciate you bro people don't know me bro used to hang out all the time though show yes and me we was like we was like real cool man and I watch the show and a miss Scifo on the show yeah we do too yeah but now he's making big money yeah where were you guys Red Rock Society we just play retro the other man we've been killing it so you know takes horrible pictures at all do you remember do you remember the night of the jzr Kelly at Madison Square Garden like are Kelly got mace yes when they allegedly taught I'm a star Kelly got it ah I do I wouldn't think though you called in that night me Angie was up here that night you sure you wasn't there I was the next night you was there oh yeah we they're calling I can't remember we stopped we was talking about the mug what just happened at Madison Square Garden cuz we was waiting on Jay and our Kelly to come to the station that night the what ended up happening they squashed I'm sure I mean I don't know that was the end down there Jay went on to finish the tour right by himself with other special guests and this is before this did the PP story break by name for this is just just video creepy just premi just pre P before you body art gala mean you really did yeah I know you guys aren't close I'm guessing body line but your sketch was the cultural stamp of like this is what we think of our gallery that was the one sketch cuy good I was gonna cut it cuz I was a buddy now washing men's - so funny and this is this is the crisis can the came to all these inlets so we left it in there only time will tell if he was anything but I remember reading somewhere he's like I've never heard Daisy pudding oh yes he did say that I was like word nobody nobody mentioned me but you need me that's one of the times my wife be like we get on his internet see what they're saying but it was did you uh you you met Princeton in life after the sketches right yes man do you guys have like a relationship very much you know what even back when I was like working the clubs in New York printed come check me out like friends always a little head of stuff he was on me but when I quit my show I think we became like friends he reached out French respects that the rents respected I went back to death that was like he knew I was going through my grown man stuff and there was certain things that he could say to me after that that if he had said before that I wouldn't even have known what he was talking about some wild woods out there well you could have show the way I bet you're gonna that's an education I really don't recommend it public service announcement yes names from them it worked out all's well that ends well but you you know you don't know things gonna work out wait so why would you say you don't recommend it though it's just difficult it was a difficult time um speaking of difficult time which is get this part in because we have to be in lending areas we haven't seen you since Charlie passed away say and he was a regular you know he was just in addition to everything on your show frequent part of our lives in New York City on hot 97 everywhere just I must have been it must have been pretty tough for you it was real I mean you know honestly men I didn't even know he was sick we didn't we didn't either and he'd come in none of us know but apparently this you know I think people that were closer to him than I that they didn't know he was very pleased very private about what he was going through his son gave a real beautiful eulogy at the at the funeral and part of what he was saying was that there's you know his father didn't mind mourn himself his dad had done everything that he you know wanted to do and that was very for me person that was very comforting and I and I've I feel like like the sand was like grateful to meet that guys is an understatement I feel like one of the big reasons I'm successful is because like we all that lunch and he just says some crazy like I fought Rick James many times and that conversation changed my life when I made that sketch and it changed his life too but like like we can I graduating together like we you know did this thesis and everyone went on to do you know real great stuff he was a very generous person and he was hilarious and and he was very wise my favorite thing is that he didn't even know how funny he was like he might have known you think he'd know cuz even that like were you saying I fart Rick James many times he's not thinking other thing other than reality like he's like yes you know me he's not thinking about a sketch he's not thinking that that [ __ ] is funny like I fought Rick James minutes it was just that was like much time bad that's what I'm saying boy yeah I mean what he knew was interesting right we knew a caught attention yeah was it was it was that was a tough year last year fine prints of five and Shandling and you know how would I leave this one and that one like it's such a rapid succession and and when it's a person like Charlie dies honestly it it makes you think of your own mortality and like what am i what is it's all about but his service was beautiful my I was one joke I said at his funeral it was funny well I was like I don't know any black person as famous as Charlie with this many black friends it was funny man but if we saw who was in the room it was it was a beautiful testament to what his life was about the room was a collecting man and a lot of people came out to pay their respects so yeah man and it must always felt good to when you saw you know Charlie was a guy who grinded didn't live on his brothers coattails made his own way and but after your show you know he had a great touring life for the rest of his career you know and obviously you say what he gave to your show but it must have been nice for you to see what he gained from Chapelle show oh my god was amazing in that fact with all the comedians you know we sat together at the service and you know the guy you know they you know I got to hear a lot more about his life beyond Chappelle's Show I've reached out doing we just hadn't allowed to see if you want to do sketches stuff and he didn't call me back I thought maybe he was just dealing with health issues and I think he felt probably insecure because that apparently it lost a lot of weight yeah yeah yeah sorry to bring everyone down no that's beautiful Dave Chappelle give it up for muchos Justin now Radio City Music Hall you got is to launch yup the SNL - no cause I'm all stars oh yeah miss large SNL cast is these tickets are going like hotcakes mr. lonely I was gonna be those yeah but no everybody everybody in New York man thank you so much the city was very good to me made a name for myself here found a wife from Brooklyn and had two kids here so I'm very grateful to the city of New York I'm very grateful for you guys having me this morning and hopefully I will see you guys eww to see us are you popping up anywhere tonight maybe you know I don't know you know what I was thinking I would say I should go do one of those I should do Street comedy in Washington Square Park and I've been fantasizing about doing but I don't want to do my act coz i you know i mean i got save everything I've written I'm saving for Netflix no white oh that would be quite a stir that would be cause if Dave Chappelle did an impromptu at Washington Square Park today oh well maybe not today but then sometime here for month it's the summertime with for nostalgic purposes but I don't know how it works in New York of uni like permits or whatever we should probably get a permit probably what he just show up like at 12 noon and just do it does need a permit I mean just do it then if he doesn't have a huge system absolutely do it see that's what Hebrews being a dick no it'll be a news story to be a great story Dave Chappelle does show Washington Square Park Mayor says traffic city important 200-gram yeah so how would we find out if you probably watch this well if you live mine we D bro wish I heard [Music]
