Dark Ride, Funhouses and More at the Tennessee Valley Fair - Knoxville, TN

hey you all carpetbagger here coming to you live from the south more specifically knoxville tennessee even more specific than that we are outside the gates of the tennessee valley fair this is the hundred and first tennessee valley fair i have not been to any of them so this is my first so happens to be the hundred and first um i've been trying to visit more fairs and see what they have to offer the rides the attractions and um i visited the mountain uh state fair over north carolina i'm looking to visit some some of the larger state fairs in the country but i'm always open to suggestions if you know of good fairs good festivals uh leave a comment in the comment section let me know where you'd like to see me visit i will do my best to hit as many as possible but now i heard whispers i actually this was kind of a uh it's for the moment thing i heard whispers that there's a dark ride in there that they have a traveling dark ride so love the dark rides loves experiencing new dark rides so we'll see if we can find it so please follow me [Music] [Music] all right let's get us some tickets and uh hop on some of these rides i've got my wristband got my wrist stamped this should allow us on as many rides as we feel like [Applause] the free exhibit here where you can feed live butterflies walking through this tent all right we got this paint brush that's like covered in butterfly food and we have to wave it in front of the butterflies get them to eat all right let's find us a butterfly [Music] all right little guy you want some uh once i want to lick my paint brush there we go he's loving it long nose stuck in the brush slurping up some uh butterfly candy or whatever it is here comes the circus train little train ride you can see it has uh some figures there on the top so we can see what figures there are looks like they got some clowns up here uh snake charmer mr monopoly and uh some animals but the rain is starting to come down a little bit so we need to find some some more uh rain friendly rides all right we got a mardi gras fun house up here i've been to the real mardi gras let's see if this is as fun as normal mardi gras all right so first we head into the hall of mirrors here at the bottom of mardi gras excuse me and get our way through the mirrors here done one of these mirror mazes recently at the mountain state bear north carolina i'll give you a little trick a little trick in case you find yourself caught in one of these don't look at the floor the floor is kind of a giveaway on where you can walk got all these mirrors some of your mirrors some of these are clear glass it's very confusing you can't rely on your straight line of sight you gotta look at the ground and kind of find where the path takes you there you can kind of make out better what is real ground and what is fake ground and here we go found the stairs we got a view of the midway from up here on top of the mardi gras and we got some pretty extreme carnival mirrors here you can barely make me out oh look at that very very abstract all right down down the hatch here okay the rain the rain makes the slide go faster let me get out of here before i get before i get hit with a kid in the the back of the kid but yeah usually i go down slides really slow for some reason but i rocketed down there i guess because it was a little wet we represent the lollipop swing the lollipop swing the lollipop swing and in the name of the lollipop swing we welcome you to the tennessee valley fair here we have an inflatable polar bear and he's got little penguins sliding down on top of him i guess the whole thing is a big slide isn't it true that like polar bears and penguins don't live in any of the same places leave a comment in the comments section if you know where polar bears live and where penguins live over here we have a little petting zoo in the middle of the midway all right i bought a little ice cream cone full of animal food uh it was a dollar and feed some of the animals looks like we got some some goats over here do you dirty old goats like food oh oh they do they like it they like it here's some good advice caution any animal may bite of course that's not entirely true like starfish and like slugs they can't they can't bite you hey mr alpaca do you want a little little nipple oh he likes he likes the ice cream cone he's beautiful he is all right so there's like a giant slide for ducks oh there they go so i guess they they go to get their food and then they slide down the slide and then they have to swim back around oh [Music] here comes the ducks whoops we're little dogs hey mr donkey do you want some ice cream cone no no okay good i know these goats want ice cream hey there if you can take it you can have the whole the whole cone gobble up that cone nom nom nom nom nom so here we have an incubator looks like we have some newborn baby chicks over there just sitting in the glow light [Applause] oh look at this for the cotton candy stand there you have cotton candy floating through the air you can just stand here and breathe in cotton candy see all the wonderful fair foods tater tots covered in bacon cheese and ranch all sorts of good stuff of course always fun to hop aboard the ferris wheel but the curse the curse of the ferris wheel no single riders someday i'm gonna ride one of these probably not tonight but someday or maybe not [Music] and the rumors were indeed true we have a dark ride called the haunted you never really know what you're gonna you're gonna see inside these carnival traveling dark rides got some cool murals on the outside a bloody skeleton holding a bloody skull another skeleton holding a heart a very spooky dragon oh what's over here i got the grim reaper all right our chariot awaits all right off we go into the haunted oh it's very dark i don't know what oh what was that oh i think i saw a zombie there's a clown head in there okay yeah we got some scares got some scares there's also some scares in the dark that aren't happening oh there's a big skull what's in here what's going on oh flash the vampire head at us here we go short but swing and next to the haunted we have mario land this is kind of an outdoor style fun house where kids can hop around and break bricks with their heads kill turtles and whatnot there's a not so scary haunted walk through the zombie hotel let's see some of these uh murals on the side oh we got the little trick-or-treaters this scary pumpkin holding a dead decapitated corpse's head ghost wearing handcuffs oh we got some classic monsters over here as well the werewolf the zombie the pumpkin head uh witch dracula mummy and a ghost all right getting ready to head into the spooky zombie hotel created by a audrey ii esque plant we head into the dark demonic reaches of the zombie hotel oh wow that's actually kind of creepy all right walking through the obstacles here these are like like things that make the floor move weird walk on paint rollers [Music] oh and then zombies here a little spinning spinning platform okay now we walk through the bungee cords all right and uh a classic rotating barrel with some spooky bats on it let's see if we can get through here all right survive the zombie hotel look at this fresh sizzling glazed bacon so it looks like that whole building is made of bacon they sell bacon wrapped corn dogs or bacon bacon on a stick take a look at some of their fair here i guess this is the bacon on the stick oh it's like a big thick cut of bacon on a stick some bacon wrapped hot dogs these are baby bacon wrapped meatballs maybe i don't know bacon wrapped chicken just basically anything you could possibly want wrapped in bacon including deep-fried chocolate bacon out of this strawberry they're actually selling dole whips adults or most people associate them with disney world but you can actually find them sometimes at other parks and fairs this is the zipper and it's one of the most insane things i've ever seen you people locked in these little caskets and they're strapped to this conveyor belt as the conveyor belt rotates [Music] that looks violent oh my gosh now i know you guys want to see me on that zipper [Music] i made a promise to myself that i would when i visit a fair or carnival or an amusement park i try to ride at least one ride that i've never rode before let's see if this zipper thing works oh my gosh seems to be going on for a really long time too so sorry folks despite waiting in line for probably 30 minutes it's quite a long line i was told once i got right up to the front it was my turn no single riders no explanation given just told me to to be on my way so no zipper today and i'm so sad all right since the zipper because the zipper zipper's not allowing me to ride let's try the hydro shock this uh horrible monstrosity and here it goes get a little get a little crazy there you can hear the shrieks of regret oh my gosh all right so our chariot awaits all right gotta try to get this it's not staying down yet so maybe it needs to click okay another strikeout i got in there i sat down and i'm too fat i don't fit in that carnival ride so i swear i swear that i'm not avoiding these on purpose i know you guys want to see my reaction but i don't know if they're gonna let me on any of these rides this is a very slow uh scrambler oh it's not slow it's just i guess the ride's coming to an end still determined to find something to ride let's see if we fit on the free bird if i leave here tomorrow would you still remember me [Applause] wow i actually don't know if i've seen one of these that goes uh quite so fast all right let's see if we can get a good seat actually i think we actually can get right in the front here all right we are locked in to the free bird the appears that the restraints fit me just fine we are in the front row and give you guys a hopefully a pretty good perspective but uh yeah these these scare me never been on one so this is my my ride i've never been on for the for the trip to the the fair here tennessee valley fair and this i've usually when i see these it seems like they go slower they do like a rocking motion this one's so different like it actually just rockets you through the circle either way i don't know i must maybe rather go fast through the circle instead of slow sometimes they like stop at the top and like wait a second but uh yeah yeah we'll see what uh see what this feels like oh we're going we're going straight up oh we're going straight back whoa okay now we're going up again oh oh criminy my gosh they give you guys a pov oh yeah this is pretty intense oh i'm upside down i think i'd like for this hand [Applause] okay just oh i'm upside down no oh they're gonna do it again i am completely upside down oh now we're slowing down oh oh oh maybe not normally now these are called the fireball fireball a lot of fair they call the free bird here i like the freebird name that's cool and uh i think our ride is over up here in the jacobs building it says they have some some exhibits then following this channel this is where they held creepy con groups of young people building robots are these like those fighting robots they actually have a whole robot battling arena set up here unfortunately uh maybe it looks like the robot fights are done for the day some art exhibits here oh look at this it's like a mean little box it's a gumball machine with hands in it it's like they have exhibits on safety occupational safety oh people it shows the dangers of of cars you can see that this person has been crushed by a car and all the blood has come out of her body over here always wear safety glasses oh my gosh that guy has a nail through his eye i i admire the creativity of this one [Music] here's the second place winner in the uh safety exhibits you see the guy hanging there one of the power tools there's a severed head presumably severed by one of these power saws this is really cool i wonder i don't see number one i i don't know what could possibly beat this that across the road a short distance and the action sports arena is here's the cosmetology competition you can see all these heads done up by cosmetologists all the the all these heads in these glass cases remind me of the witch from return to oz who kept all these women's heads and cases and she would switch them out with her own head [Music] oh but this is super cool the fantasy makeup exhibit here's the the first prize that is really cool i guess a fair themed makeup job a clown on one side and then carnival food on the other but all these are are really cool almost look like harley harley quinn there's a lot of clown themes because of the uh because of the fair you know we'll be seeing some scary clowns very soon as haunt season that rolls our way oh look at that that is that is wild you can see some prize winning produce here look at those beautiful peppers the one thing i always love about fairs is giant pumpkins and giant watermelons it says this here is a state record says this is 1526 pounds and this watermelon here is 284 pounds that weighs more than i do exit here for the smoking area which is appropriate because over here we have the tobacco competition here's the uh championship tobacco simply the best better than all the rest they get delivered they get power to become the sons of god amen they get power do you want to have power to overcome all the god and all the sin and all the things that's coming upon the earth do you want to overcome it it's jesus now i've commented before about the difference between elephant ears and funnel cakes here in the south they usually sell funnel cakes but this is actually a stand that sells both [Music] [Music] here is a another inflatable looks like it simulates going down niagara falls on a barrel you can see the guy up there in the barrels eyes peeking out and you plummet down here for a
