hello bakers and welcome to upside down today we're gonna be checking metahuman if you're not sure how to get on the metahuman webpage i'm going to put a link down in the description below now let's jump right into the software so at the moment everything is still experimental and it better and as well everything is happening inside your browser you are going to need to load a little bit so be patient once you start the software for first time [Music] when you are inside this is pretty much what you are going to be greeted with so we have create method humans and as well mimetic humans there is a list of already couple of different presets that we can go through and you can see that on some of them we have this little triangle which means that there are some uh assets or some parts of that character that are still experimental and might not be completely done or might not function as they should so uh have that in mind but we can also see some of the characters that were used as well for the initial demo when the software was released let's scroll down a little bit the list and my task for today is going to be to try to recreate myself or at least as close as possible inside metahuman let's see what we have uh you can see that there's quite a lot of different varieties of character or character bases that you can start so uh that's awesome and there's lots and tons of content that is being added all the time as well you can see that even on the thumbnails uh the quality of those uh assets and these characters is quite good it's a very very high one so uh i assume that a lot of those can even be used for some like either fan art cinematics or some other cinematics that are done inside unreal engine so let's choose a base that goes as close as possible to me and we'll start from there let's uh have a look let's see if there is someone that is gingerish or a little bit gingerish like me and uh yeah now i don't really have a beard so we might choose some sort of a base like this maybe and then continue from there we will definitely need to change the hair let's see if there is something a bit closer okay let's uh go back up and i'm going to choose the guy that we just saw so i'm going to choose uh this guy as a base and we are going to start creating from here so once we selected it uh we just need to click the next button and uh it will load us this is uh pretty much how the screen looks so uh you can see that uh right from the start there is already an animation that is being loaded but uh this is something that we can stop so if i just press the stop button our character will go into an idle pose it's the standard a pulse i think which is uh also used by the unreal skeleton so uh i assume that some of those eventually will go quite easy inside unreal engine and this is generally how things are being prepared and they will be sharing or using the same type of rig as the unreal one so i really hope for that it will be a very easy integration especially if you are already using some assets from the unreal market like some animations uh that would be amazing because a lot of those animations are already done on the unreal rig so it will be very fast and uh very productive for your game development so now let's go very quickly over the interface uh you can see that here on the top we have first the type of environment and the one which is chosen at the moment is studio but we can choose indoor outdoor and as well we can have a silhouette which is amazing because this is something which uh when we are creating characters it's a topic that i can make a different video about if you want to have recognizable characters and something that is uh very well distinguished by your audience or by the players that are playing your game i strongly recommend to have a very strong silhouette for the character and very well readable one so let's go back to studio uh then we have camera and then we have the quality of our asset so if i zoom in you can see that at the moment uh everything is already looking pretty good and this is just on medium settings and of course we have high and epic settings which will increase the quality of textures and our asset and as well you can see that they are using ray tracing this is something which of course i recommend if you have some nicer video card because otherwise the frame rate that you're going to get and the performance that you're going to get from the software is not going to be great also we have our leds so at the moment we are on our lod 0 but we can at any point switch on some of the lower ones and see how our character is going to look like so if i go for example ld5 you can see that a lot of the hairs are already removed and it looks uh not as smooth as before so let's go back to ld0 and on the side is our customizations let's start by uh changing some of those things and try to get as close as possible to how i look like one thing that i quickly want to tell you about is pure ref puref if you haven't used is a software which allows you to grab couple of different images and drag them into this screen that appears uh somewhere wherever you want to place it and pure f is very very useful if you are an artist so i'll also put a link down below if you would like to grab uref as you can see in my pref i took two uh images like two photos right before i started recording this video uh and therefore just reference purpose uh and i took a front one and a side one just so that we can compare how our model looks and how close we can get so uh let me grab this uh pref over here and what i'm going to do now is start messing up with some of the settings [Music] okay so the first part is blend we are going to skip that one so this is something that we can blend between some of the different presets that we already have but let's go on the second one uh skin so let's try to match the color of the skin tone as close as possible uh what i'm going to do is just click on the color picker and as you can see i'm a bit more pale than this guy uh also there is a little bit of this yellow tone on my skin this is uh just from the light the light in that room are quite yellowish they're not really neutral so i'm not going to go that much into the yellow but uh just make it a little bit brighter i would say maybe something like that yeah something like this looks a lot closer and in terms of texture you can see that i have some freckles and uh this guy doesn't really have any let's see yeah we have a freckle top so let's uh put some freckles there let's see we can increase yeah a little bit the strands and we can change the density to the saturation tone shift uh so those i think in terms of strands they're a little bit more subtle something like that [Music] okay that's uh close enough let's uh move on i have green eyes eyes are our next section uh but also it's not very well visible probably on these images but i have a little bit of yellowish in my eyes so let's try to find something uh i think that's something like that probably is close enough so we can move on some of the other areas oh we have different patterns for the iris so let's see if i can match something maybe yeah something like that is definitely closer to uh what i have in real life and let's see what else we can do so there's quite a lot of control uh we have the base color let's go a little bit more green towards the brown a little bit yeah something like that not this dark and then the detail colors as i mentioned i have a little bit of yellow in there so let's uh put a little bit like that they're not this brown but uh yeah something like this because there is also a little bit of bluish tint uh mostly it's visible uh on daylight so we can't really see it on the reference photo okay uh let's move on maybe it was a good uh idea as i see here that we have a teeth to take a reference photo as well on teeth but uh i didn't do that so uh let's just leave this one as uh it's by default but as you can see we can have quite a lot of different uh adjustments for our teeth so we can move the jaw a little bit if it's twisted in any of the different directions and as well uh the spacing of the teeth and also we can change the length there are quite a lot of different uh things which you could change from here plus of course the color the color of the gums the color of the teeth themselves so let's leave everything uh as it is and let's move to some of the next sections so here we have head head is actually for our hair style so first thing you can see that we have the color and let's try to match the color to the one that i have i again going to click on the color picker and i have brighter hair color maybe not as blonde let's put a little bit more redness in there and let's go something like that yeah something like that will uh work and let's see if we can find some uh hairstyle which is a little bit closer to mine if not we can stay with that one uh as you can see on some of the places uh my hair is curly it actually when it gets a bit longer it becomes uh quite curly so uh let's see if we have something uh or i think we will just go with the hairstyle that uh we have from this preset eyebrows we go on to the next section so what we have at the moment uh matches already pretty well we're just going to change the color so it's uh more bright and it matches a little bit more the hair color as you can see my eyebrows they are quite subtle they are not very dark so they blend uh not as blonde definitely from what i did just now but let's go for something like that and then we can go for eyelashes on the reference we don't really see anything so i'm just going to leave it as it is moustache and beard okay now we are talking so uh here let's first do the beard and then we will try with the mustaches so uh let's try something like that as a base maybe let's see currently i have a little bit more beards than what we have at the moment on the model but um [Music] maybe we can try yeah maybe this one fits a bit more yeah something like that probably fits a bit more although uh this just the style and the line uh it's a bit less messy than uh what i currently have so maybe let's try the some of the other ones see how they look yeah this one definitely uh goes a lot closer so let's go with this one and now let's go back to the mustaches and see if we can find something i have this part over here which doesn't really connect and usually when my moustache become just a little bit longer and the beard as well they kind of already blend in but they don't really connect so let's see if we can find something uh i think just from the start we clicked probably on the ones that fit best this one is already you can see the line here it continues uh more on the side and while on me it's uh it doesn't really continue that way so it kind of goes already here and curves down i think uh those fit more and our next step now is going to be to sculpt the face shape so this is something which as you can see here on the bottom we have the blend move sculpt and the preview and currently we are on the preview this allows us to preview our model and as well play the default animations or there is also a few more animations that we will check in a second but we are going to go into the sculpt and once we click you will see that there's some dots that appear on the character's face so uh this is something that's uh for body types at the moment you don't see that we have those dots around the body but i assume that this is something that will come as a customization we have some default body types that we can choose from but uh we'll go in a second there let's first go and see how we can uh update a little bit the face and get it closer to how i look in real life so i'll try to put the face uh kind of straight to the camera as i have here on the reference and by clicking holding and then dragging on some of those dots you can see that we can manipulate the face and how exactly it's shaped so uh here i'm just going to move that a little bit out and then the chicks probably will need to drag them a little bit down and inwards so uh the jawline as well i think we need to drag it a little bit and especially here the bottom part we need to we will see on the side as well how it looks uh my mouth you can see that uh it's a bit smaller than what we have currently on this character so let's do that and it he also became a little bit unhappy uh and upper lip and lower lip we can move a little bit more down now let's go for the nose so the nose uh we let's see what options we have here okay so here we can move it like this a little bit and here the side of the nostrils let's make something like that we'll see how it looks from uh the side as well and let's uh adjust a little bit the eyebrow line so here you can see that at the moment on this guy we have a curve like all the way while uh for me it goes kind of like straight and then it curves down so let's try to do that like this okay let's uh play with the eyes a little bit as well like so let's change for forehead so the forehead at the moment we have uh a bit bigger than what uh i have so this is something that we definitely need to see if we can change and how much we can change so this gives us even more massive forehead i assume that yeah we can't really move it as much so let's leave it something like this just a little bit the curve here and uh my ears it looks like i uh don't really have any ears i generally have uh not very huge ears so uh let's see if we can uh actually like put them more like this oh my god it looks it looks so weird like in real life i look like yeah like a human but once i do this on the model uh yeah he starts looking very weird so uh let's just give him a little bit of ears maybe or let's try to get as close as possible so uh something like this and this was the software was not created for people without ears like me uh let's tweak try to tweak a little bit more the eyes so here you can see that a little bit more like that and as well uh just the overall length of the face is the face is a little bit longer so let's move down down like this okay let's go on the side and see in comparison from that perspective how things look like so here you can see that there is quite a lot of difference first uh let's start by the more obvious things so the forehead uh as we just so we can't really do much about the shape yeah in my case you can see that there is like this a little bit of a um here and then second part while here okay from this point we can control it so it will be something like that and then this will okay okay let's see also the back part of the hair sorry uh i have a little bit of a messy hairstyle at the moment so let's say that's something like this probably [Music] okay and let's uh tweak a bit more the ears and see what we can do with them yeah i have very weird here let's try as well now to tweak a bit the nose so the nose definitely needs to become a bit like this bigger oh my god it's not as big like this and then we can tweak a bit cheeks and also the mouth and the jaw because this guy i don't look like i have that much of a jewel so let's try to do something like that and okay also this uh reference picture that i took is a little bit more from up and it's like this which is not perfect for our references but uh i did my best i tried to took a couple of different photos but uh yeah that's kind of the best that i could do so let's try to tweak a little bit more ends as well i think the mouth we kind of got the shape there overall so maybe the upper lip as you can see on my side it's a little bit more lifted so what we can do maybe i can just do a bit like that and then the yeah something like this is uh a bit closer and here for the chin let's see if we can i need to get a haircut like uh this guy it's uh yeah his hair style looks pretty good uh although my hair will never if it gets that long it will never stay like here it will already start curve a lot more and let's see how we look from the front it doesn't look very close to me uh uh foreign [Music] one thing that i will do now is uh go back to our head and let's try to make the uh head the hair itself a little bit brighter so also the roughness i'll adjust [Music] and i'm not going to give myself too much white hairs although okay let's click preview so it's getting close there are some features that uh definitely don't match at the moment so i would say that the skin tone is something that we need to change a little bit and uh also the eyes i think we need to make them a little bit brighter as well in terms of face shape i have a little bit of a longer face than this guy but this is something which i try to play more with the settings but it seems that it didn't really work out so we have like some limitations or at least currently we have some limitations so maybe in future we'll have a little bit more different uh face shapes or at least be able to tweak some of the shapes a little bit more and he has a little bit more round face than what i have i think from the side it's also going kind of close but again uh the forehead was one of the areas that i was not really able to tweak that much and uh as well here in terms of the jawline you can see that in my case it doesn't really have the draw itself defined that well so it goes a little bit more uh up than having this curve over here which was something that i didn't really have the option to uh tweak at the moment so again this is probably something that uh guys will add a little by little into the software uh for the nose shape i think we got uh pretty close and lips as well for the eyebrows as well i'm pretty happy how they turned so just this area here and the jawline on the bottom are two that uh i think we didn't get uh that close uh let's try to frame the same way that i have my camera kinda at the moment uh and uh see he somewhat looks like me of course uh we will need glasses if i'm without the glasses uh probably it will be a little bit closer so uh let's see few things that uh we can probably tweak and uh one of those is going to be the eyes as i mentioned uh let's go and have something a little bit brighter in terms of color so something like this i think matches pretty well uh teeth let's uh yeah let's leave teeth like they are we are not gonna put any makeup and the skin tone as well a little bit more towards the yellow i know that uh here there is this uh yellow tint that uh is also present in the room from the lights but uh yeah let's put a little bit try some of the other options for freckles so those are very tiny i think uh maybe this will much a bit more oh yeah let's go something like that uh in terms of strength i think we are fine maybe i can put a bit more even yeah something like that pretty good let's go now for the body type and see what we have so uh here we have just a couple of different body types i'll leave our guy uh as it is uh i'm definitely not in the same shape a good shape that he has but yeah let's leave it as it is we have uh at the moment a couple of different uh options uh that we can choose from so at least guys definitely a bit average yeah i'll just leave that one uh tops we can leave with that those clothes then we have bottoms and we have shoes at the moment we don't have any kind of accessories it was going to be awesome if we had uh some sort of accessories like glasses uh i am sure that this is something that probably will come in future and they will add on top of this let's see uh indoor uh light oh so here now we can see that the hair is way too bright and let's check outdoor outdoor it's a little bit better let's maybe try some of the higher settings to see how things look yeah the hair definitely is uh way too bright so let's uh go and check that head yeah something like this definitely looks a lot better and let's see outdoor so yeah on the outdoor as well looks uh a lot better and i think that's it uh we got uh with the functionality that we have at the moment in the software close enough uh there as well as i mentioned couple of different areas that i would definitely tweak uh forehead and chin that don't really match to what how i look in real life but it's uh oddly close uh as i mentioned there are just those few things that i would tweak and change and of course adding accessories like glasses it's something that definitely will help get to the final version and get as close as possible to how i look in real life so thank you for joining me in today's video and subscribe to the
