Classic MOPAR Small Block - 340 on Dyno

and what we've got here is a mild 340 1972 boys to a 70 CUDA four-speed car which only has a little can a little mild boarding on the heads and nothing else and there it is all track to decide [Music] lots of good things happen in Nick's garage but the shops reputation is founded on the engines that are built and rebuilt here nick has been getting the most out of muscle car engines since he was just a kid wrenching in the alley behind his parents home in Montreal today he has clients who come from far and wide for his old-school know-how and boundless experience Nick loves working on all kinds of vehicles and the engines that make them go but he has a particular soft spot for the v8s that came out of Detroit in the Golden Age of American Muscle and the engines made by Chrysler [Music] today a piece of chrysler history is on the dyno for testing this freshly built 340 belongs to Steve from Toronto and he was up early to make the six-hour drive so he could be here for final dyno testing before taking his engine home [Music] 9400 M why we get from the German station okay I just bought it yesterday you want to change guys we can change it where do you want to run watching the field okay it's all in the timing you know that was experiment yeah yeah [Music] I looked up 39 jaskate I need you to $50 I'm gonna show you your cc1 hey was 67 yeah the other was 71 so you notice not the two heads were different something yes and I didn't vote so I paint one to get in both equal yeah then when did they start doing what she sees I bought a bowl 263 to get it in the high nine now voltage of 63 cc this is a 750 s got factory jets on 73 I'm not gonna use it up she's gonna make one test you know what check oil pressures mechanicals all that I'm gonna take it from 2800 to 59 okay you guys ready let me get those ever [Applause] [Music] that was a date today and Iran at 173 184 at water temperature which is air fuel ratio see this copper is running rich you see you look I want to run high 12 look what I'm running low too low 12 it's rich right but I'm not worried about this car I'm trying to tell you if your carburetor but on another day I was given more horsepower I take that 34 was better for you yeah I'm gonna put a backward watch watch I marked my distributor where I have them don't forget now it's running on my control box right when you put in the car you have to check the timing okay I'm gonna back up the time a little bit the sound of a 340 on the dyno is always sweet but it's even better for Steve today who hasn't heard his engine run in eight years that's how long ago he got into an accident in his CUDA unfortunately that's why one on the manifolds is cracked very nice but here it is again back to life with Nick's working his magic [Music] we're gonna turn the age of with these carpenter so you got a few card issue that he wants to run it with and of course now that we have the engine on the dynamometer our goal is to get his coverage runny because of whatever I've done to this one kept on running very lean on idle so a nice brought another carbon rain and let's get this one through to put you get it done right [Music] and you guys I'm gonna I'm gonna say something okay when your dyno test and we don't have the turbine and this I was checked if it's tight in this case just loose I'll take it off because my last experience on a big block shift somebody brought his carburetor he put her on my put the turbine I didn't check for this but I didn't expect it was loose we made one final test on that dynamometer and then suddenly we had a big noise we shut it down and we found this through the piston the the start for the carburetor anyways that was a bad experience for that reason I take them on okay let's go [Music] got a touch something there guys [Music] [Music] I need a breakdown yard BAM - no it does not [Music] okay okay now I'll rev it up watch this I just bucks it I thought you forgot pots in advance it not their cup to bite you money [Music] you might bring the 32 or 34 there was a minute why everything [Music] [Music] you're over 30 and racial the other car bitter was in the red all the time no matter what I did there you know it's a bit on the root side but you're good you're good you're good [Music] oh sorry well when it starts cracking up my shuttle I got to make sure to choke nothing closer nuts on full throttle so I got a quiet open here we go we're good okay let's make a first test with the car Peter I Steve just brought in this morning so we got their fuel ratio perfect on idle so now let's see what it does on full throttle same thing twenty eight to fifty nine hundred rpms three hundred rpms per second [Music] yeah yeah it's pretty good look at this is all the money that's all the money perfect and the power is the same power look at that okay the 30-30 is like before I finally got a information that I want and it's pretty good you don't have to do any jetty or meeting Roger on this did you here with being in a bit we'll do it again and don't forget I'm holding I'm locking it at 2800 p.m. a full-throttle a Yannick card crimes right away as you're driving but this year I'm locking it right now we're just gonna get another full throttle test with the without the fighting working on the Subaru and what's your buddies mixing the damage we want to see if it does any Pig in how it performs and we're just going to make the test and find out and that's the I don't know vacuum a look at this [Applause] [Applause] [Music] tikrit pool yeah there's your vitamin idle oil pressure is good at 40 pounds 45 pounds air fuel ratio let me check it again there's good twelve seven twelve night yeah we're good if you're rich is good even on air while accelerating with the correct carburetor in place nick has got Steve's 340 running smooth up to fifty nine hundred rpm with the air fuel ratio right where he wants it nick is happy with the results so far but steve is thinking about some food Nick knows just the place restaurant for tap 2000 here on the highway on there all these for forty so whenever we have a food hamburger and I come back make one more test in six hours of 200 p.m. and call it a day [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] we've got some more versions for the stock let's go Vasili special [Music] so we're about to make one more test you guys could be the last test of the day hopefully weighed 340 so we could put it on paper so we're gonna take it from 3000 to 6200 rpm and it's gonna be our final test before it takes it home and let's hope we get it so let's go for it [Music] not yet yeah yeah you know what girls this is out what that's not it what's up we're going to think it deceased of 200 we're hoping to get to 340 on paper that's all journey open the fan please we're gonna take it from 3,000 6,200 RPM at 300 rpms for a second there was a 3000 M you see now 3,000 so we're good there it is [Music] [Applause] [Music] when Carpathia that's all guys it's all good it's like everybody here has some a little bit you better believe it's not the age it's the mileage here we go [Music] 3:35 I was hoping to get 340 it's close enough a you know he'd die most revered on this mortar was 339 and I tried to get a three 40s then I made another test this is there today again I hit 339 I couldn't reach the 340 mark for some reason and this is a 37 degrees every erection yeah she was playing wavy there a bit that could be the super playing with the timing or should do it now it's warm or what do you think what do you think no you know what I'm just going a big one one degree let me just do something one degree yeah I'm just gonna do this I'm just gonna [ __ ] it just a bit we're almost there there yeah do another shot no it's on the mark this word this was my original max words part right there so we take another side there we go come on it's it's at 3:40 perfect okay now Britt this here princess you hold on you did it print it we did it we finally hit it at 59 Humphrey and we got 340 we're happy gonna shut it down and now just before I take it up to dynamometer I'm just gonna making sure that everything's okay before I turn it off that's one of yours oh do we meet 20 years ago Bernie met Nick at a car show in Carlisle he took this picture and filed it away then all this time later he came to Nick's shop in Montreal and saw the same car in a picture on the wall he remembered the car and he remembered Nick I sure miss this car let me tell you I had a few cars is you know I've done a few projects this is one of them mm-hmm and you know every whoo was like one of my cars they always want to buy it and now you know with kawaski for go to pennsylvania this coming summer i'm not going there to sell it just gonna shower show it off and he knows what's gonna happen anyways but i just going to meet a lot of viewers a lot of people have a great time with my friends and my boys have a great time and sure brings back history man
