Mad Max Interceptor Pull - 351 Cleveland on the Dyno!

[Music] the sun is shining time to get your wheels clean and looking sharp out on the road but before making them shine you want to make sure things are running right under the hood [Music] next shop has been helping lots and lots of folks get their dream cars on the road lately [Music] from nice old Camaros and Firebirds all the way to one-of-a-kind builds like this incredible Mad Max Interceptor that Chris has been creating out of a Ford Torino sheetmetal and a whole lot of willpower the car is almost done but the engine isn't in place that's because today is the day that it's on Nick's dyno [Music] [Applause] last night I was here with the Christian putting the angel of dynamometer and we wanted to start them up and breaking the cam and here he is is with us Christian good morning morning morning now let me ask you remember what we went through last night you know I haven't built too many Cleveland doors but years ago I built another Cleveland engine for another customer wine but building I put on the dynamometer like your kids do stupider his ignition coil and they keep running it was waiting on the car so I put it on the dial of the weight came off the car and then I tried to get a start on the dynamometer and I couldn't get it started and I was fighting back and forth checking ignition this and that and I notice the spark would go on and off on and off and eventually I damaged the camshaft I'm not cleveland and it didn't break in well because it took me a long time to get it started so last night I was still in Christian here it is now I got another Cleveland and I wanted to keep it simple I took the quo that came from his car that was running it was good and because he's the Schubert was damaged and seized here let me just pull it up right here he see this is his original distributor that came out of the car but it was seized inside the block so we have to force it out and broke the casing right so what do I do I part of rebuilding Subaru to keep it simple for Christians because we're not looking for crazy power here it's a coochie car it's a show car so I bought the simple distributor rebuild from the manufacturer put it in here and got the engine running and we won handling for about a minute just a minute that was more like again on a Cleveland oh here we go again a spark issue I said ah no no I don't want to do it again it damaged the camshaft oh ah here we go again so I have to repair it on we figured out that this Jupiter was no good we changed Paul's also eventually it was not the core I mean it was Friday night it was late Nick was tired everybody had left everyone starting to give up yet and Nick just wouldn't give up I wasn't feeling great either and Nick said hold on a second you walked and I just started cleaning up I thought that's it any came back with this 40-year old distributor cap no idea where you yeah I thought of it last night is that it Barry and I would start I said to Christian no if I find it it's fine I had another customer wife or a good friend of mine she has a boss 351 Mustang and he went to electronics on his engine and to a big block on his Mustang so I kept this all the sugar which is this one right here see it's a dew point rusted the Subaru that I had for 40 years in storage now I knew this dis dis uber was running on this car so all I did was work back in here after I found it I don't know was a miracle after 40 years even my brother was surprised I had it for so long I never sold it and here is eventually on a Friday night 8 o'clock at night you need a part and my brother dies we go up and take a break Nik and I said no no no no I wanna get this motor running and I took Vichy we're here tonight we're gonna get a running so I followed this Subaru I put it in find it bang the motor started rad we talked in the cab and here we are today we're gonna mix up tests [Music] here we go [Music] [Music] like what we're gonna do some testing with white car Vader the horses of my room with our 650 CFM you got in tomorrow 350 to be inch and later are gonna forget a chance or maybe Monday drop it on it Dino before we install it in the car for now that day my room the 351 is making all the right noises and would seem to be ready to test but Nick sees something he doesn't like some oil has appeared on the Dinos catch pan nick hoax it's just from a loose fitting on the top of the engine and not an issue with the main seal or oil pan yes [Music] [Music] this is a 300 horsepower engine first fence let me see where we got [Music] DeWine we pulled up three 51.5 not bad for 351 well it's our first test to support Lola was a former trader horse whether it is from the factory let's go further on I like you know when I was out there it seems to be coming out I know but she doesn't like it arrives there to drop the oil but something is telling me might be saturated no you know what but a lot of work yeah the first poll makes more power than Chris was expecting his 3:51 is making one horsepower per cube already but Nick is focused on the oil leak he cleans up the outside of the block and wipes down the pan hoping they can track the leak and stop it as they continue testing [Music] we allocate dollar we get it done back-to-back see [Music] we're gonna take y'all 1531 5300 rpm don't forget this is the spot engines refresh that's all it is here we go [Music] [Music] [Music] why No 349 to 300 [Music] [Music] we have something leaking in the back we got an oil stain I presume Severus you rear panel gasket or maybe the point behind the cam I'm not sure but you know what check out the down I think I got it oh that's so good good one good news is I'm sure we all know it's just a cam cam shot smoking pretty good we won't be making this kind of horsepower so we're pretty cool too camshaft so that's off the list now we have an issue do a leak Wow here we go let's take a look yeah it's right in the corner God where is it coming from yeah right something is leaking in the schedule [Music] and strange could be the can button [Music] you only tighten up the whole shebang on the tyrants will happen you get I doubt it my name is boto choice [Music] we have an electronic the sugar coming in next week so we're gonna redo our test again next week when we get a chance the same time check out for the real leak that we have or got a couple jobs to do already on this I'm going to get another stupid with the Petronas conversion get that out of the way then work in the seal see what it is maybe take off the final right here and see what I can do and then put his car there doing it and match up the horse part with it and then on the way back into the car so far today for what I've learned that the camshaft is good inmate 351 horsepower or rigid from the factory 300 anyways I've got 350 my customers copy I'm sure the camera is in good shape I'm gonna remove the buff that was after just to make sure but we've got 50 horsepower over stock so I'm sure the cameras working the only thing is you have to fix that seal real leak there tuning this carburetor everything goes well and it's on to the car we got more on the line facts coming up in the future after this install I'm gonna take it for a long dry stop it up some fun with this car it could be an adventure so any Mad Max car in Quebec [Music] one of a kind show cars
