you are lord [Music] in this place in our hearts and in our lives we open afresh to you this morning we declare come take your place jesus [Music] [Music] hey well good morning everyone it is great to have you join us today and uh again i want to extend a very very warm welcome to those that are joining in today thank you for tuning in i want to extend a very warm welcome to our church family our church whanau i hope you are well and uh we also want to extend a warm welcome to our friends and family from around new zealand and of course around the world so from wherever in the world that you are watching i want to extend a very very warm welcome to you today and uh especially also for our our church family and hastings many of you have opened up your homes to invite people in and today i want to thank you for doing that today i've got a word that i've really felt the holy spirit put on my heart for the season and for this hour for this time and when i was down here the other day i was in the time of prayer in the auditorium and i really felt the holy spirit speak to me quite clearly and quite strongly over what i want to share with you this this morning and i believe if i believe this is a word for every person here today i believe this is a word for us as a church i believe this is a word for you today as well and uh i want to talk about this one and the the word i have for you this morning is a new normal and one of the things i've been seeing uh reading on social media posts uh was was the phrase a new normal we and not going back so today i want to speak into that this morning and i want you to turn in your bibles with me to joshua chapter 3 and verse 1 to 8. i'm going to be reading from the old testament this morning and here's the thing when we read from the old testament it can be easy to dismiss some things as irrelevant for us today for such you know things like that the laws of law of sin and death has been fulfilled through jesus christ but there are spiritual laws and dynamics that are just as relevant for us today and let's open up the scripture for joshua chapter 3 verse 1 to 8. i love this joshua got up early in the morning then he and all the children of israel set out from chittim and they came to the jordan and they spent the night there before they crossed over the river and it happened at the end of three days that the officers went through the people the church and it happened at the end of three days that the officers went through the camp and they commanded the people when you see the ark of the covenant of the lord your god being carried by the levitical priests then you shall set out from where you are and follow it however there shall be a distance between you and it of about 2 000 cubits it's about a thousand yards by measurement do not come near it so that you may be able to see the ark and know the way that you are to go here's the line for you have not passed this way before you have not gone through here before and joshua said to the people sanctify yourselves for his purpose for tomorrow the lord will do wonders or miracles among you and joshua said to the priests take up the ark of the covenant and cross over the river ahead of the people so they took up the ark of the covenant and went on ahead of the people and the lord said to joshua this day i will begin to magnify and exalt you in the sight of all israel and so they may know that just as i was with moses i will also be with you and you shall command the priests to carry the ark of the covenant saying when you come to the edge of the waters of the jordan you shall stand still in the jordan and uh this is a great piece of scripture in here and like i said i've really felt the holy spirit speak to me this is a word in season and even just different ones i've been talking to i i just i've felt the holy spirit again prompt uh prompt this in my conversations with people i want to bring you we're going to go through this piece of scripture we're not going to go through it in chronological order but we will go through it according to some some key statements and i want to open up for you this morning i love this you have not passed or you have not crossed this way before and we are an age we're in a day right now where we are experiencing things that you and i have never experienced before we are living in a day where we are basically walking in uncharted territory this is a whole new track that we are cutting and we have not passed this way we have not crossed this way before you and i have never experienced what we are facing in the world today this is the first for every one of us and but this is a great time this is this is a great day this is a great season to be alive this is not a season to be afraid this is not a season to be apprehensive but this is a season to be excited this is a season right now where god is doing something great amongst us i love this you have not passed or crossed this way before see i believe this applies to all of us in many different ways we can find ourselves in a place of life where we have not crossed this way before we are stepping into the promises of god many people are currently i believe facing or experiencing life changes right now some of this have got to do with covert some of it hasn't got to do with covert some people are about to go through some life changes i believe even with covert it's not necessarily about covert but it covered what we're experiencing right now can be a catalyst for other changes talks about the untrodden path this is outside our comfort zone we'll all this will have different implications on and through our life it is the path forward into the promise of god and to the path forward into greatness for many of you today you will be experiencing uh seasons or changes in your life and i want to encourage you today there could be a change in your business that could be a change in your uh home life that could be a change in your heart there could be a change anywhere it could be a change unique to you but i believe also this is a change that is unique to us as the people of god that god is wanting to bring us through a place that we have never been before and these are out these are these are days where we are in uncharted waters many of you will be facing decisions life decisions and that decisions that you haven't faced before maybe you're transitioning out of a business maybe you're transitioning somewhere but i want to encourage you today this is a great thing god is leading us forward god is leading us into greater things the significance of this day or the significance of this moment is very very profound i'm speaking prophetically to us today is because i believe that just as the people of god had got to a stage where they were about to transition into something new about to cross over on a path they haven't crossed over before i believe this is pertinent for us today we are about to cross over into a land we're about to cross over and into a path and into an area into a space that we have never been in before this is a great time and so this is a significant moment in our lives this is and i felt the holy spirit speak to me this is a significant moment for me in my own life my family but also for us as a church i believe this too is a significant moment for your life for the people of god this has been a long time coming a long time coming and for many people i believe today this change has been a long time coming this has been a long process of change but suddenly things are starting to happen i believe it's very easy to underestimate the age and the time that we are living and the significance of the change i want to take you through a few points in this piece of scripture there are three things i want to talk to you about this morning one was the changes involved were significant this was a day this was a whole this was this change happened within a a very short amount of time but it was profound it was significant it had been a long time coming but here it it was accumulating on one day that was about to bring them into a whole new season so the changes involved here were very very significant just as we're experiencing changes in the world today just as you'll be experiencing changes in your life i believe these changes are far more significant than we could ever imagine or or think of the implications of the changes again on the people was something quite profound and quite something quite significant but also there is a response required from the people as well so we're going to go through a couple of these points we're going to go through the changes that happened at this time we're going to talk about the implications that happened and we're also going to talk about the changes or the response required from you and i today sure this happened a number of thousand years ago but this is just as relevant for us today i believe we are crossing over we are moving we're in a time where we are moving into the promises of god one of the first things we want to look at is the the changes this was not just an ordinary day but there are some significant changes that were happening right here this is a time where they were shifting from jordan into the land of canaan they were basically shifting from one space into another space they were shifting from one environment into another environment they were shifting from one territory and to another territory there was shifting from one paradigm to another paradigm they were shifting from one way of living to a completely new way of living and all of this was happening in one single day some of the changes here's one of the changes i want to talk about this morning that leadership had changed in more ways than one which had different implications so you think about the changes that were happening they were going from one tera one territory into another territory and i believe right now that for many of us as individuals but also collectively we are moving from one territory into a new territory we are moving from one environment into a new environment we see the environment consistently changing around us but i believe that we are moving into a new a new environment in the spirit as well and i believe this is absolutely exciting i believe that there are people here today your business is about to shift from one environment into a new environment your marriage is about to shift from one space from one environment from one territory and to another i have been praying over the season that god would enlarge our territory i'll speak about that on another day but this is a significant this is a great day to be alive but here leadership had also changed in a significant way in more ways than one that also had different implications on how people lived and i want to encourage us today that we can't live today we've got to make some changes in our life there are some implications that are going on around us that as a result of the change that we must respond to because if we don't respond to one of the things that you'll find is you'll be left behind you'll be you'll be found in a place where you're missing out we're not entering into the season that god has for you so i want to encourage you here today a significant change in leadership had happened now moses it was no longer there moses was dead and now joshua had taken up the reigns joshua had taken up the reins of leadership so all the years where people had sat under one particular leader now changed so there was a significant change in personnel leadership so now joshua was at the helm here's another one the style of leadership also changed when joshua came into leadership he brought in a new style and it was important that the style of leadership had to change now the way we do church the way that we operate the way that we function the way that we've shared leadership or we operated in leadership cannot remain the same if we are going to go for one season into the next season the leadership style must change so one of the things we see with joshua was one of the leadership styles that changed was a there was a change from a consensus-style leadership to a command style leadership if you look at the language that joshua is using if you look at the language there were words like command there wasn't words like take a census and what do you guys think or anything like that no no there was a change in leadership style from a consensus type leadership to command-style leadership the last time they were put into this position there was a consensus type leadership and you know what happened groupthink took over and no one was entered brought the whole people into a place of bondage and they wandered in the desert for 45 for 40 years this time when they get to the same place or get to a similar place it required a different style of leadership to move the people from where they were to where they needed to be and i would encourage you today i want to encourage you right now that it's going to require a different style of leadership to bring us from where we have been in in the past to where we need to get through let me encourage you consensus style did not get them into where god had into what god had for them and i would encourage us today that it's going to require a different style of leadership to get you into the next place into the next season of life it is going to get require a different style of leadership to get us into where we've been used to into into the place that god has for us interesting another one another significant change in leadership was this there was a significant change in the spiritual leadership not just in the personnel not just in the style of leadership but also in the spiritual leadership and the way that they encountered god interesting up until this point up until this point for the previous 40 years they had been led by a cloud of cloud by day a pillar of cloud by day and a pillar of fire by night at this particular day all of that ceased on this particular day that whole spiritual style of leadership of following the cloud or following the the fire was no longer happening it was now the ark of the covenant that required a different response from the people interesting that every israelite alive at that time knew only the fire or the cloud has been the guide of their life it must have been quite unsettling to awaken on that day to a whole new paradigm where you've got people for 40 years this was a whole generation of people that had not known any others type of spiritual leadership and all of a sudden they wake up on a new day and what they've been used to for the last 40 years was no longer current it was over it was done it was a new spiritual experience it must have been quite unsettling to awaken to a new paradigm it must have been quite uncertain to awaken to where's the cloud gone and i believe right now that there are some significant things will happen in our lives i believe right now that the style of this i believe the spiritual experiences that we've had in the past will now start to shift and start to change just as it did for the israelites i believe we're in an hour we're in a season right now where there are some a number of things must shift around us and a number of shift things must shift inside of us interesting that the bible says that joshua had to send messages throughout the people to explain the new reality and how to respond so joshua sent commanders through the whole camp and said this is the new reality this is the new spiritual reality for our lives now and this is how you must respond and interesting it was a command and i believe that we're an hour right now where there will be new spiritual realities manifest in our life i am hungry today in my life i'm hungry today for this church and for this nation that new spiritual realities will be released in the face of the earth this happened overnight i believe that we will come into an age that we will come into a season that new spiritual realities will shift what was happening yesterday will suddenly shift and a new reality will come into our lives and that is going to require a different kind of response we can't just respond in this new season the way that you used to respond you can't respond in the same way today as you responded yesterday this literally happened over the course of a day the significance of the change in one day was profound but it was leading up to many different over a number of different years i believe that we are an age right now that this has been building up over many many years but the change now is happening suddenly joshua had to send messages to the again to through the people to explain the new reality and how to respond like i said there's going to be new realities new spiritual realities emerge and awaken in our lives today and it is important that we respond in the right way here are some different responses that you and i can make in these days the first one i want to bring you to joshua's response and uh i love this we're going to go back to the beginning the bible says that joshua got up early in the morning see this is counter-cultural it's not cultural for these people if you've ever been there a lot of people get up late but joshua the bible says it was quite specific that he got up early in the morning everyone else is lying around but joshua was up on his feet joshua was out of bed this tells us a number of things about joshua he was setting the pattern for what needed to happen you and i can't be slack you and i are living in an hour we are living in an age right now where we can't be casual about the things of god we can't be casual about the way we live our life we can't be casual about our marriage we can't just be casual about the decisions we can't be casual about the season and the day that we're living in right now joshua got up early tells me this that he was anticipation he was in anticipation of a great day in the days of head there must have been something about him on that day that caused him to i believe it was part of his lifestyle anyway but i can imagine for him on that day there was great anticipation on what on the day that lies ahead of him in the days and the days also ahead there was a sense of determination he could smell victory he was it's also a sign of faithfulness and here's the thing it's important i believe for us to be proactive we need to be on the front foot we need to be on the front foot of expectation today we need to be on the front foot of what god is doing in our life and what god is doing in our nation today it's in other words let's not turn up slack let's not turn up and present ourselves uh five minutes behind no no joshua was too far he was he was two feet in front of everyone else that is the that is the first response that you and i have got to make i know for many kiwis very very casual and the way that we even turn up the church so they're very casual in the way about our devotional life we're very casual and even an expectation friends we can't live like that anymore it is important it is imperative that we shift in the way that we live our life it is important that we are responsive that we live our lives in great anticipation of what god is going to do not in fear but we're going to smell the victory right now the bible says this next line which i believe is very very pertinent again to that to the day in which they were living in he said he joshua and all the children of israel set out from shadow it's interesting that this line is in here because i said like i said it is uh it's quite significant and in the in in the context of what was a bit of what was happening this place represented a dark day in their history and friends all of us have got dark days in our history you i am sure that you have got days that you regret i am sure that you have made decisions in your life and this it's important that we we look at the significance that they set out from this place the bible says in numbers chapter 25 and verse 1 to 3. the israel this is in days prior the israel settled and remained in him and that says then the people began to play the prostitute with the woman of moab they invited the israelites to sacrifice to their gods and the israelites ate food offered to idols and bowed them down to bow themselves down to moab's gods so israel joined themselves and baal into worship friends their last experience at shiram was a disaster their last experience there turned her into a massive place of failure where many people lost their lives and just seeing that they the jewish word uh it's interesting that the jews often oh sorry it's interesting that the word the one of the jewish words associated with this time means vayishaf means whenever this word is taught used it means it's used in the context where there is where it's foretelling days of difficulty and pain the word means to rest after a long journey but here's the thing it also refers to a lack of growth and movement they got to a point where they rested too long and their hearts started to wander they started to get involved in idolatry's worship they started to get involved in sexual immorality their lives ended up into a place of absolute failure and this is why it was such a dark time for them but this time it was a different time this time it was different this time the place of failure was to become the launch pad for what god had for their life here i want to encourage you today this is important for us to be able to move on their place of pain their place of brokenness their place of failure they had to they had to deliberately set out from that the words used was that was joshua and all the people set out there was a purpose purposeful departing from a place of failure there was a purposeful departing from a place of pain and let me encourage you today in order for you to move into the next season of your life in order for you to occupy and to come into this next place of victory it is important that you purposefully and deliberately set out from the failures and the mistakes of the past because if you remain there if you remain in a place of brokenness if you remain in a place of dysfunction i'm going to assure you today that will be that that will be your future you'll never ever move out and into the next season that god has for you i believe it's important for many people here today your brokenness or your failure of the past you've got to deliberately and purposefully set out from there and set a course on your new direction let me encourage you you can be the one to reverse the course of history you can be the one to redeem past face past failures you can be the one to cut a new track to cut a new legacy maybe it was your family maybe it was you whatever it was this can be the day where you can start to cut a new track this can be the day when you can cut a new legacy your place of weakness and failure can become the platform for victory i want to encourage you today this is a great day for you you have may have failed in your marriage you have may have failed financially you might you may have failed in areas of your life maybe it's a family failure this can be the day where you purposefully sit out and stop residing stop living in your place of brokenness stop living in your place of rejection stop living in your place of pain and start to move on this is the day this is the hour where it's important for you to set out from that and not stay there this is a great testimony i believe that marriages are going to change i believe that the course of people's lives are about to change for the better if you make the decision to shift from this place friends you have got to make the decision to change and to set your course out of this place of pain out of this place of failure out of this place of mistake too many people they dwell and remain in that space you can go through healing courses you can go through all types of ministry but the bottom line will be this you must deliberately set your course start making new decisions start to recreate your world start to make decisions out from that place the next play the next thing he talks about was this you need to follow the ark and interesting he said don't get too close there must be some distance there must be some gap sometimes we can get too familiar and start to lose honor so this style of leadership was no longer the cloud but now it was the ark and the instruction that joshua said was this don't get too close to it in other words keep a distance from it interesting so he said this there shall be a distance between you and of it don't come near it so that you may be able to see and know the way you are to go i'm just saying that he said create some distance so that you can see and know the way in which you are to go because where you are we are you are going you have not been this way before and here's an important thing i believe don't get too close sometimes we get too familiar with god sometimes we get too familiar with leadership sometimes we just get familiarity around our life and we start to lose honor i believe it was designed that way or redesigned that way in order to give direction it's often by lack of honor or familiarity that causes people to lose direction vision or what they need to be doing it's a spiritual principle i believe this is an hour where we've got to start to create space for god we need to allow a fresh reverence a fresh fear of the lord to come around our lives we also need to i believe this allow fresh honor to come into the people that god has placed over our lives because it's important this is a spiritual principle that when we honor the men of god over or honor the woman of god that are over our lives it is this that can op that can give us a sense of direction and vision for our life it's important their honor honor is a principle that opens up the gates of heaven honor is a principle that gives us that imparts vision and direction in our life especially in our kiwi culture so many people so many of us can get very familiar we get familiar with church we get familiar with one another we get familiar with too many things and often in that familiarity the bible says that you know it talks about familiarity breeds contempt and often this is where people start to lose their way they become too casual there's a time for that there's a time to become close there's a time to have these kind of to relate in this particular way but it's important that we uh that we maintain a sense of reverence and we don't lose the fear of god because it's in this that we get direction it's in this that we get a sense of vision for our life i love this and i love this next line he said was this joshua said to the people sanctify yourselves for his purpose for tomorrow the lord will do wonders and miracles among you this is this is another response that he gave to sanctify yourself to sanctify yourself this idea of this instruction of sanctifying yourself is both an old testament and a new testament instruction there is a sanctification that christ has done for us in hebrews 10 verse 10 it says this by that we will have been sanctified through the offering of the body of jesus christ once and for all so there is a sanctification that can come and that comes through a relationship of with jesus christ through his blood there is a sanctification that comes that way but it's not the only sanctification there is a sanctification that the holy spirit continues to do in our life as well so the holy spirit is consistently working in us the bible says that there's a there's a a formation of christ inside of our life and the holy spirit is consistently in continually working in our life something that paul also did was it was committed to forming christ into people's lives that is a form of sanctification but in this line here he says sanctify yourselves there's a particular identification he's talking about we're also called to sanctify ourselves what does that mean how do we do that in one peter verse 1 verse 15 in the in the in the amplified translation it says this but just like the holy one who called you be holy yourselves and all your conduct be set apart from the world by your godly character and your moral courage well well that's just a word for us right now today in the king james version it says this be holy or sanctify yourselves in all manner of conversation so here's a way that we can respond to what god is doing in our lives here's a way that we can sanctify our lives two versions say kind of the same thing the king james version says sanctify yourself in the way that you speak it's important that we understand this because actually the way that we speak can either bring destruction into the world around us or it can bring uh victory into the world around us it can bring faith and hope you know the last time they were in this place the words that came out of their mouth was we can't do this this is why it's important that we sanctify the words that we speak and i believe that even in this hour and in this day too many people are too critical too many people there's bad stuff coming out of your mouth i believe it's important in this day that we are we've got to be careful with the words that come out of our mouths we've got to sanctify the words that come out out of our mouths too many people especially in the house of god too much criticism too much gossip too much negative words coming out too much unbelief coming out one of the ways that we can sanctify ourselves is to watch the words that come out of our worth and to restrain the words that come out of our mouth to to be careful of the words that we put out there the amplified version says this actually it's about how you conduct yourself in life and i believe this this is an hour where we've got to make sure we have got to reconsider how we are conducting ourselves how we are living our lives and we are living in a day where actually we need to be living with moral courage the amplified version specifically says we to sanctify yourself also means to to live with moral courage and especially in this day where we are seeing a a a downgrade or a decline in morality in the world around us some of the things that our kids are now being shown some of the things that are now being communicated some of the things that are now being shown starts to over time starts to uh decline in morality and before you know it even the church uh invite involved in conversations that we shouldn't be involved in we can get to a space where even us as christians believers in christ we start to have conversations that we shouldn't have we start to be talk the words that are coming out of our mouth the way that we're conducting ourselves friends this has got to change we cannot talk the same way as we've been talking and expect to move into the new season that god has for us we cannot we cannot expect to remain behaving in a certain way and expect for us to go and expect for us to inherit into what god has for us there are some specific things that we must sanctify we have got to purify the way that we talk we've got to purify the way that we conduct ourselves we've got to purify the way that we relate to one another and some of the ways that people relate to one another has horrendous and this has got to change there's no way we can inherit there's no way we can walk into the things that god has for us and still remain living and conducting ourselves the same way it's got to change i want to encourage you today in this day where so so many significant changes are happening that it's important that you and i respond in the right way that you and i move from the place of pain move on from the pace of failure well we start to make some steps we start to bring honour and reverence and the fear of the lord back into our lives again it's important that we start to change the way that we speak start to speak words of faith start to speak words of possibility it's important that we start to respond and start to change the way that we live and change the right way that we relate to one another we're going to start relating differently folks we've got to start relating to the world differently we're going to start relating to one another differently because this is the types of responses that i believe that is going to usher in the new things that god has for us i love this i'm going to conclude in this last line here for joshua said to the people sanctify yourself for his purpose for tomorrow the lord will do wonders and miracles among you friends this is the space this is the the the line that i'm most excited about because the bible says this for tomorrow the lord will do wonders and miracles among you this is a day where we are going to be shifting into a season where many signs and wonders and miracles will happen amongst ordinary believers that is what i'm most excited about that the signs and the wonders and the miracles will not just happen in the house but they will happen in your homes they will happen in your places of work they will happen in your business that will happen in your world that will happen in the people in the way that you live your life that will happen in your world outside the the walls of church the signs wonders and miracles will happen among us and friends that is what i'm excited about but to get that to happen in order for that to happen these responses we have got to respond the right way i want to encourage you today what response do you need to make in this hour in this day jesus said in john 17 verse 17 he said he was praying to the father and he said that you would sanctify them through your truth one of the ways that uh that sanctification takes place is by truth you know what are the things that we need is a truth encounter with god's word it's not about your opinion as such it's about do our lives align with the kingdom do our lives align with kingdom values to the way that we speak does the way that we speak align with kingdom values does the way that we conduct our lives does the way we conduct our business the way that we conduct in our marriage the way that we relate to one another is it aligned with kingdom values or is it aligned with the ways of the world or just align with your opinion friends it's important that we bring the truth of god's word back into our life again i want to encourage you today what responses do you need to make what response do you and i need to make today we are living i believe in the greatest hour let's position ourselves right let's position our hearts right let's position our conduct right let's position our lives every facet of our life let's position it well so that you and i can walk into the land and walk into the promises that god has for you maybe you could take some time to reflect maybe you need a truth encounter i want to encourage you today even in leadership style you know the days of consensus consensus is a great thing it's important it's important to hear the views and the opinions of people i get that but actually we are living in a day now i believe where a different kind of leadership needs to take place where strong leadership needs to take place and the question will be this will you respond to a new style of leadership will he respond to a kingdom style of leadership it's not that we do it's not that no one else's opinion doesn't matter anymore it was the last time that they got to this place it was consensus became a problem it was consensus was the very thing that could stop them moving over friends if we're going to move over the line if we're going to move into the things that god has for us it will require a kingdom alignment it will require you and i to align our lives every one of us to align ourselves and sometimes that means putting opinions aside sometimes that means shutting our mouth sometimes that means just saying you know what i'm just going to make the decision i may not understand i may not always agree it might even shake my nerves a little bit but what i am going to do is i'm going to respond friends this is an hour that for us to go into the land that god has for us it takes a new type of leadership it takes a new type of response it takes a new way of living it takes a new way of conducting ourselves it takes a new way of responding this thing can happen suddenly but when we allow it to i believe you and i will cross over into what into what god has for us i would love for you right now just to close your eyes and just to bow your heads i want to pray for you right now father i thank you for these great days that we live in a father i thank you for these this great hour that we are in right now i pray today in the name of jesus that your holy spirit will come into our lives afresh holy spirit we yield our lives to you today holy spirit we align ourselves to you for your kingdom lord i thank you right now that you are leading us into the land of promise and different expressions in different places in our life i pray that every one of us will have the strength and the fortitude to be able to respond to your holy spirit to be able to respond to your leadership today in jesus name lord i pray that your your hand of blessing would come over your people today right now i pray in the name of jesus that great breakthrough would come into people's lives that great enlargement will take place in people's lives i pray that this would be a day where people move from pl the place of failure i pray that this would be a day that people would move from the place of brokenness that people would move into a place of victory and success in jesus name lord today i speak your hand to blessing over every household today in jesus name and all god's people said amen hey i want to thank you for being here today i hope this word's spoken to you and uh for me it's something to take some time to digest but i believe this is a word of god in season we are crossing into a path that we have never been down before but let's embrace it with faith let's embrace it
