hey folks will here again with happily ever outdoor so in this quick tips video we're gonna talk about how to pick the very best camp cookware for your needs so keep watching so when it comes to choosing the right camp cookware for your particular needs there's a couple of really important questions you need to ask yourself and the very first question is how do you actually spend your time outdoors are you primarily a car camper who likes nice campgrounds where you can pull your vehicle up maybe they've got a grill set up so you can go ahead and cook right on there or are you a ultralight backpacker who likes to go solo by yourself way back in the woods but you've really got to nail this down first before you can pick the right cookware because it's gonna be really specific depending on what it is you actually like to do which also means if you're into all kinds of different things you'll probably end up needing a couple different cook sets question number two is also really important and that is how far am I going to have to carry it now if you're at a nice drive-up campground or maybe you're doing some Bush crafting just a little ways back in the woods behind your house cast iron is gonna be an awesome way to go I absolutely love cast iron these are a couple of lodge pans and or as good as they are really not that expensive primary downside though they are super heavy so I definitely would not want to have to throw this in my hiking pack and walk out 20 miles carrying this thing that's the case you're probably gonna opt for something more like this a smaller all-in-one self-contained little cook kit so question number three you need to ask yourself is am I gonna be going solo or am I gonna be bringing family or friends with me how much food do I need to cook or how much water do I need a boil at any one given time if I'm by myself again a cook kit like this more than enough or even something as simple as a canteen cup setup and that right there it's practical it's reliable its lightweight and it's plenty big enough for most of my stuff I'm gonna be doing if I'm on my own just cooking up a quick meal or making myself a cup of coffee for two people something like this again would be great this bear Bowl folding cook pot would also work and this is just a cheap I a no-name brand stainless steel a little set this is one of the first sets I picked up off of ebay if I had three or maybe four something like the Pathfinder Bush pot that gives you a little bit bigger capacity along with maybe one of these folding skillets like this one here from GSI or the Pathfinder folding skillet or maybe some combination you know one pot in one pan but the point is if you know how many people you're cooking for you've got a better idea of how much capacity that you need lastly another big question is your budget now a lot of times just with any kind of outdoor gear companies want to convince you to buy the most expensive products right but you don't always need the most expensive thing and not everybody can afford it a lot of folks especially who are into the really ultralight stuff they have a whole bunch of titanium cookware I don't own any titanium cookware because I'm not really an ultralight person I don't usually take really long trips and it's hard for me just to justify the cost but if you got the money and that weight reduction is really important to you there certainly nothing wrong with buying titanium products the Pathfinder brand from self-reliance Outfitters is what most people consider a little more of a premium name but they've also got some stuff like their Bush pot and the folding skillet I've got here that I think they go for around $25 each so still not very expensive considering how good quality made this pan from GSI right here is nonstick if that's something that's important to you and that's about $20 and this I believe it's called the adventure cook set from Stanley it comes with the two little cups these are readily available in most stores a pretty good capacity definitely big enough for two people good quality yeah you can get these for like 13 bucks in the you stainless steel bottle sets are also becoming increasingly popular especially with bush crafters we'll go ahead and open that up and I have my little canteen cup the Nestle's perfectly with this bottle I forget how many ounces this is but you can see this cup nest right in there this is just like a Ozark Trail Cup that I got from Walmart and it's a perfect fit I just throw it on top because with that bottle pouch it just fits a little better in that single-wall stainless steel not double wall you never want to try to boil water in an insulated bottle but with that non-insulated bottle you can throw that right on the fire just take the cap off now I don't like to cook any soup or anything like that in mine I just use it to boil water just because I don't really want to worry about cleaning it but if you get a widemouth bottle like this and you have a bottle brush it'll still work for that too if you're on a really tight budget you can always look for a hand-me-down here at garage sales or people selling on eBay things like that I mean folks sometimes even find really great deals out like thrift stores where somebody donates something the store doesn't really know what it is you know maybe it's a really nice cook set a titanium cup or something like that and they're selling it for a couple bucks and you can grab it and especially if you're kind of a beginner in the woods maybe you're not really sure what you're into yet maybe you're just kind of messing around with bushcrafting or maybe you're just starting with backpacking but you're not really sure if it's gonna be the right thing for you do not go and spend a fortune on the most expensive gear and maybe you do it for a while and you realize this is what I really love but I want something that's a little bit bigger or has these specific features you can go ahead and vest in that fancy or and then you go ahead and hold that less expensive stuff as kind of your backup or you could pass it on to somebody else so folks I
