[Music] how's it going everybody welcome back to em FS media thanks for tuning in today we're going to taking a look at a 16 inch upper receiver available through Palmetto State Armory but before we go into that I just want to say thank you guys so much for stopping by thanks for watching this video and if you like what you see please remember to hit that like button and you can want to see more similar to this please remember to hit that subscribe button it really helps me out and I appreciate it I just want to say at this time that I have a Facebook page where i share daily deals you'll see deals for even up where i'm about to show you today and a plethora of other things and all sorts of stuff so please check that out i also have a instagram page where it's the best way to see with updates on reviews that i have currently going on but that's enough talk let's take a look at a 16 inch 5 5 5 6 upper receiver available through palmetto state armory kind of guys give you guys a little close-up here now what this is this is just essentially a different option for everybody out there and that's what I love about Palmetto State armor lately they've been putting out they have all their you know they have options so it's not just as simple as oh you go in buy a 16 inch jumper now you can go in by 69 inch upper with different rails different barrels different options when it comes to bulk carrier groups that sort of thing but I've put so far through this I've put about a thousand rounds cert and I've started 600 rounds through it and we are going to go over the reliability of it the accuracy of it and all the features of it and what it came with so let's head over to the table and deep dive this thing alrighty so here we are back at the table I've already taken the liberty of basically field-stripping the rifle for you guys but what we're looking at is the 16-inch upper the tool tool craf nickel boron bolt carrier group that came with it the charging handle that came with it but I added a little something-something to that and then we have a lower receiver that I've actually used in a lot of previous builds there's not a whole lot going on here we do have a Palmetto state armory lower parts kit with this it's just a anderson lower receiver Magpul furniture this has been kind of my my testbed lower this is what I pretty much test every single upper on at some point and it works great but that's not why we're here um I sent that off to the side there I start with a charging handle the least exciting portion right it's just a milspec charging handle is what it comes with I added this little guy here it's an extended latch I can't remember the name off the top of my head but if I can find that out I'll put that in the video there then we have the bolt carrier group so there this bolt carrier group is made by tool craft I actually have a video explaining the differences between the nickel boron and a nitride treated bolt carrier group I'll put it right there but this this this would be the second one that I've used that's a nickel boron from tool craft and it's fantastic it's properly staked there hasn't been any abnormal wear or anything along those lines and it's super dirty because it's been have yet to clean it obviously and it's been used as a suppressor all that sort of thing now the upper receiver itself let's start at the muzzle here the muzzle device is an a2 flash hider moving back we have a 16 inch pencil profile barrel so what that means is is that it's going to be a basically a lighter-weight skinny barrel and what you're gonna get out of that is obviously it being lighter weight that means less things are have to carry its but the drawback to that is that because it's a lighter profile barrel it's going to heat up quicker but the pro to that is that because it's a it's a lighter barrel and there's not as much material that also means it's going to cool down faster so that mean so there's no there's a catch-22 to almost everything on they are but moving back on the barrel itself we have a point six to five diameter gas block with a mid-length gas system put in there and then for the rail and this is one of the one of the big draws to this is this rail here is circ for the money and what you get this is awesome it's super lightweight it's lightning cut everywhere the only spot something like three spots on this that isn't cut to save up on weight and you have four QD points and you'll notice the top rail here it's very similar to like the Atlas I believe the Atlas s1 style hangers from Aero precision is that the top rail is cut out so that you can save again more weight there's just a rail spot here at the end for a iron sights and back here I don't really know what you would put there but just in case you wanted to extend something on Jarell you could it's got anti rotation tabs it's it's got a mounting hex screw up top and then it's got two hex screws on the bottom and that's what holds it all in place it's been very solid um you also have Magpul backup iron sights that come with it which I stated many times before those are my favorite for the money so yeah and they kind of speak for themselves and that's kind of what it can't that's it I mean it came in a box and that's that's what it came with those are the features hell sorry it's a one-in-seven twist barrel also on this and it's chambered it for 556 so you can fire either five five six or two to three out of it and lastly I'm going to tell you guys the weight as configured with this bolt carrier group this charging handle backup iron sights this thing weighs in at three pounds three a quarter pounds that is crazy I know that's not like some it's not some astronomical change but you put this and pair this with a super lightweight lower receiver like with an MFT stock or something long those lines you're gonna have yourself an extremely lightweight gun I can tell you when I switched on this upper here when I started this lower here when I put this on there it felt like holding a feather compared to other guns and this is not a that's not even this is not even a lightweight lower here but having just this on on just that lower there compared to other upper receivers that are just just you know little changes here and there this is crazy crazy lightweight now let's say you know at this point let's move over to accuracy and reliability so you have a super lightweight ar-15 with this and so that means that for you know shooting off of a bench rest and stuff that means there's gonna be slightly more recoil and that sort of thing but there's not really much recoil anyways when it comes to an AR but you guys are gonna start to see targets pop up on screen at this point so this this first set is a is winchester 55 grain white box five five six I did four five shot sorry five four shot groups and you'll notice and this is at 50 yards you'll notice things kind of you know it goes here and there but the top right because I always try to eliminate the outlier but they're sometimes the groups groupings are sometimes good and whatnot that you don't have to really worry about outliers but this first spot in the middle you know it ranges anywhere between about mmm 0.75 up to the bottom left here you have mm that's about 2 inches if I recall so and that was one of the last that's the last grouping of this so it heat it up and it spread out now it could have been there is some some user error involved with this again I'm working on getting a more stable rest for when I'm doing these been shootings but I did have it topped with a primary arms 4 by 14 by 40 for scope so I was able to get real zoomed in close and personal so I mean I tried to take as much human air as positive out of it as possible but it's gonna happen guys until I get a better rest it's gonna happen so again this is another one of those things that I felt like this was a pretty good grouping for what you for what you get for what you have to pay for it so this was not a very good grouping this is with a six to green green tip Lake City so this is the steel penetrator rounds and the first grouping and the various Center was the best at about one inch at 50 yards and then it just spreads out I mean we have one at one point that's like three and a half inches one two inches so it works I think you're still still hit your target and everything but it doesn't seem to like the Lake City brass sorry the 62-grain Lake City very much and then I also have a shot up with 55 grain Tula I shared about a hundred rounds of tool ammunition through this and it did really well just as good as probably the Winchester white box if not better range anywhere from about again 0.75 up to about 1.5 inch groups at 50 yards now next is where I was expecting to see a dramatic change and we have the Hornaday 75 grain super match this is pretty spendy stuff I wanna say it's about $1 sorry yeah no actually it's about a dollar fifteen cents around and I just want to see how I performed and it did really well if you eliminate the outlier the groups range anywhere from about point sorry about a half inch groups of 50 yards up to about inch so that's really it was really consistently had some groupings where it was basically going it was using almost the same whole we're almost clover in some areas so that's pretty that's pretty sick and again if I were to have a more stable rest I could easily get I could I could I'll see if I can do it at some point for you guys on video but I think with a more stable rest I could easily replicate these groupings at a hundred yards for sure I think this is a very accurate upper receiver now again I don't know what between each set here I did let I gave it time to cool off because I wanted it to when did you guys to see exactly what each set look like with basically a cold barrel so sustained fire with this being a lighter profile barrel groupings will they will for sure open up over time there's no doubt about it so now let's talk reliability so the reliability of this upper receiver has been awesome I have had zero issues both suppressed and hun suppressed using brass case and steel case ammunition as I said previously I've used about a hundred rounds of steel case Tula fifty-five grain with zero issues and I've also used five hundred rounds of a mixed bag of brass cased ammunition anywhere from you know the the hornaday which was just for the accuracy portion and I've used the cheapest stuff that you can buy in the store frontier Winchester white box all that sort of stuff and I have and have not had any issues the ejection pattern seems to be correct between two and three o'clock and it's it's been running great I will say running this suppressed you know you fill some stuff back in your face but that's just how it is when you're using basically when you're using standard milspec charging handles but it's been it's been pretty fun and again with how lightweight this is I would the only thing if if you were to add something to this upper receiver the only thing I would potentially add to this for if it was me trying to keep this light weight with that philosophy of use is just maybe a red dot and call it good I would even if you're gonna add a red dot I would almost take off the Magpul backup iron sights and take a look and try to find some really super lightweight ones that are that are fixed but I don't mean wrong I mean everything as it sits comes as it comes it works so yeah you know guys if you guys have any more questions by all means ask me down below I will gladly answer them for you and you know thank you guys so much for watching and I hope to see you all in the next one
