Cheap Body Armor Upgrade

oh I can't feel my face when I'm with you but I love it yeah love it welcome to demolition ranch glad you're here I know I just made a body armor video but I had a pretty good suggestion for another one and I got kind of excited about it I wanted to try it out so this is a level 3 and a 500 steel body armor plate level 3 can stop up to a 308 Full Metal Jacket this is a level 4 plate it's the same size it weighs the same it's a little bit thicker the reason it weighs the same is because this is a ceramic plate and by the way level 4 can stop up to a 308 armor penetrating round so ceramic plates have a layer of ceramic in the front like tile it's it's basically a hard stone like layer what that does is a bullet even our map ensuring bullet comes in it hits that hard ceramic layer and starts to break apart in the back it has a what they call a composite layer composite layer is basically just a bunch of really finely woven fibers sort of like Kevlar and so it catches all of those fragments that come I'm hitting the ceramic layer so the price difference between the level 3 steel and the level 4 ceramic is pretty great the level 3 steel is $85 which is why it's so popular it's pretty affordable the level 4 ceramic is $155 so nearly twice as expensive now the question posed to me was what if you take your cheaper level 3 plate and you go to your local hardware store and buy ceramic or stone tiles and epoxy them all over the front of this so would it make it up to level 4 standards for much less the price those tiles were like seven dollars or something so you would basically get a level four plate you'd have your steel level 3 in front of it you'd have that ceramic getting it up to level 4 it would be heavier it would be bulkier but you know if you're sitting at home you hear someone outside shooting armor penetrating rounds you can go chip out some of the tiles in your bathroom glue them on real fast and you're gonna be protected right there's only one way to find out ready looks good all right let me go set it up over here and we're gonna try it out it is a little bit heavier than it was before first step I'm gonna slide it in this old plate carrier here it is on Lieutenant Dan I have a fresh coat of paint back there there was a couple other bullet holes but we should be able to tell if anything comes through bullet on top is an armor-piercing incendiary 308 and I know for a fact these will go straight through regular steel level three plates all right he's smoking probably a good sign right looks like he went straight through him let's open up check it out it looks like we may have gone in between the blocks but there is a perfect hole straight through the other side which kind of confuses me because I found the tip of the bullet right there as well as some other bullet fragments so I think we need to shoot it again let's fire two this time to API rounds it's not looking good yeah I think he got messed up again all right they both went through but I feel like the data was kind of inconclusive because one of them was very close to the other hole and the other one was on the edge so I just can't really see what I'm shooting at when it's in that thing so now I have it out in the open so I can see exactly where this bolt is gonna go I have one on our penetrating round I think we may have a success here I don't see any new holes in him I repainted him this was just where the plate was leaning up against him so all the holes should be around here I shamed high I don't see any holes in this thing either just pull this off there's where I went in it is bulged right here and nothing came through we have a success here you go here's what we're left with this was the first shot the second shot also went in there the third shot I was trying to aim over in this area and I couldn't really tell where the bottom of plate was and I ended up hitting the bottom of the plate so there's the third shot there's a bullet stuck there that's actually the tip of the bullet but that one's kind of hard to tell it kind of just bounced off the edge there pieces of it went through here you can tell so that one may have been stopped not sure but moral of the story we hit one dead-on right there it hit one of those little tiles dead-on and did not even bulge the back not only did it not penetrate it didn't bolds the back so I'm gonna call that a success I think if you were actually doing this because you wanted to protect yourself better you should not have spaces between these tiles like this because I think that's why our first one went through it just snaked through right in the middle there but that'll teach you that you can upgrade your level three body armor to level four standards with about seven dollars worth of bathroom tiles this idea came from a guy by the name of Tommy ballantine I don't know him he just sent me a message on my Facebook page if anyone else has an interesting or unique idea that you'd like
