CCNA NETWORK+ CCENT 25 THINGS YOU BETTER KNOW ABOUT ROUTERS

welcome to another badass video from network engineer Academy and by the way this video video number two part two out of that topic back 25 things things you better know about routers and by the way if you haven't watched video number one I'm gonna tell you right now that you better go back and watch video number one first and let me tell you why because I'm video 1 I told you how to approach that process that I will walk you through for you to learn this topic you know what routers do and if you don't do that you will go through this video but you will not be able to get as much as if you go through video number one first remember one thing is for you to know the technical topic for you to answer a question with a technical definition like everyone else but another that makes the difference is for you to be able to answer a question you know whether you can have a conversation with the manager with that recruiter you know what the other person is asking you that question or what about when you are working in a project or when you are troubleshooting an issue I mean you better know how to communicate the process that you are going through what's going on in your mind because if you just go through your IT career by having conversations answering technical questions from a technical point of view a technical definition it's not going to help you as much and that's probably one of the things that's holding you back right now for you to get that chat for you to get that promotion I'm telling you now it's up to you for you to listen or for you to be like I know best Jorge whatever I'm trying to help you so again go to video number one if you haven't gone through video number one so about this video well first let me go through this process really quick and the few things that we talked about and video 1 related to the topic routers you know what routers don't and again based on that video if I come up to you now and now that you know better and how to answer that question what would you say to me based on just PDO one what would you answer me what would you say to me come on go through a process take a few minutes you know stop the video go through the process practice practice practice you know what you are learning not just in your mind but be loud about it be loud about it because that conversation that you have in your mind it's not the same when you go about when you are about to tell that to someone else that's another issue that many IT people have you know you can probably have a better conversation in your mind going on right now about it but when you're able when now you have to tell that what's going on in your mind it's difficult I know because that happened to me many times when I didn't know any better but now that I know better I'm telling you you know that's a skill for you to know for you to master so take a few minutes you know what would you cut what would you say you know like we talked about you know routers IP addresses logical addresses and that's because you know an IP and a computer and an end device can change you know and that can change base and the admin you know going to that device and you know changing the IP you know that's because you do that through statically or you know paste and dynamically you don't get in the IP from a DHCP but again you know logical address because that IP may change once you go to other network and connect to the other network you know another thing that we talked about you know routers work under layer 2 under layer 3 of the OSI model the network layer same with layer 3 switches and we talked about you know the difference between that like a layer 3 switch it's not a router it has some of the functionalities of a rotor but it's not a router it's a switch but remember that's a command right that you need to do that you need to enable then you need to apply in order for some of the roaring functions to function and a layer 3 switch you know I mean we talked about you know routers all about the routing table and that's way an aesthetic route or dynamic routes if it's dynamic because you're using a dynamic routing protocol like OSPF EIGRP rip you know is is PGP you see we talked about a few things and a lot more not just from the basic point of view but other topics related to that first 12 things with 13 I think are things that we went through again go through video number 1 or go through this exercise so now let's go to number 14 packets routers packet switches frames right again this is so basic this is a basic part remember what we went through video number 1 what else can you tell me about this something basic you know Jorge like let me tell you like routers is all about packets because you see we have the OSI model and then the other side matter we have like seven layers and I really the top three layers you know layer 7 6 and 5 you know it's all data but once it goes through a transport layer by the way that's called packet data units you know what that that a that's now it's going through our seven layers and it's basically going through periods packet data units from telling you you know when it goes to not transport the transport layer you know that's basically segments and now it's gonna go to the network layer and that's packet you know and that's routers you know and then he's going to go to that data link layer switches it's all about frames and then it's gonna go to layer one and that's the physical when basically she's gonna convert you know the data and once in zeros depending and the media right can be through Wi-Fi that's waves it can be through you see like how I'm going through this process and I didn't ask about our same arrow I didn't ask about the PDUs I didn't ask you know what's going on under transport the transport layer or the data link layer you know I didn't ask none of that but frames right away my mind connects information or same arrow packet data unit or what about data link layer or what about this or what about that you see and that's exactly how you need to answer that question I'm giving you gold and really giving you gold if you'll listen to me you you know routers a big huge deal about it a router it's network address translation because you know let me tell you call him what tell me what because if you just like oh I saw this video about Nats or routers not okay someone asked me something about routers I'm gonna say oh and by the way you know routers equals net network address translation and by the way oh and let me tell you another thing like no you know take a minute or two and tell me a lot more related and something related to net what would you answer me how would you answer me you see this is so fun this is one so passion and doing these videos because I know if you really put yourself into a content that I'm giving you and a way to approach it you can stop up on your IT from this point on on how to and how you will unlearning technical topics so you know one thing that you can say you know one thing core killer I can tell you about NAT is you know network address translation and that's basically you know like because let me tell you first we have what we call private IP addresses and we have public IP addresses public IP addresses make sense about you know the public network but Internet you know and then we have the private IP addresses and that's basically for local area networks now in between in order for us to communicate to the public you know we need to call in you know and get one of the companies out there is P providers you know the Internet service providers and then this is gonna basically give us that connection so now we're going to set up our own router and basically be like okay from this point and that's basically they give me are more likely a public IP address but that's for me to connect to a public network for now in the back that's my local area network you know and I know that private IP addresses do not work on the public area network I mean and uh yeah the public network so what I need to do is I'm gonna be I'm gonna have to basically use net and ablenet that way I'm able to use that same IP public IP for that ten twenty one hundred to a thousand computers devices that I had they will eventually need to communicate to the public network and by the way you're not talking about routers let me tell you one thing forget that I know to the layer 3 switches people a lot of people call them routers as well but they're not routers or switches with some functionalities about routers some functionalities about routers yet they cannot do that so you cannot have a layer 3 switch thinking it's a router and for you to enable that you cannot do that all right at that point I'm like whoa I think I'm gonna hire you you know no one out of the ten people that went through the same process none of them told me what you just told me probably I'm not gonna give you that job now but I'm gonna remember you so if everything goes well yeah more likely yes I'm gonna give you that job to you but I'm gonna remember you you see that's exactly how you need to process that and that's a few other things that I can talk about you know about a poor number about NAT price I mean that's many other things but the thing is you I'm giving you like a few things for you to think about you know so 16a see else access control list again right Oh routers access control lists ok what else can you tell me about that so I'm not going to go through because through each one of them because obviously I don't want to make this a lot a long video but this is something for you to think about another I'm basically give you a lot of the scenarios what will you say now that you know better and how to answer a question on how to come up with a conversation based on this and an access control list you know because one thing that you can say you know about access country we have extended and we have a standard okay what else what else you think about you know probably you can talk about firewalls as well a lot of that has to do with that you know with security you know you're gonna allow to connect an IP a network I mean what else can you tell me about an access control list you know based on the port you know we have TCP UDP port you see I'm giving you ideas now it's for you to get them and be like okay now I know what you're trying to say Corey okay so let me put it in a way that's gonna make sense that whether you basically been teaching me in the past few points or things about routers that's what I need you to do if you just keep going through a video without doing what I'm asking you to do just you will be like everyone else this is something that I go so much with my students in that coaching program like you better do the exercises not only for you to go through all of the videos you know when we do that one on one call and me basically coaching you you know kind of guiding you through the process for you to get results and everything else but if I ask you to do something you better do that because that's the only way that I know that you can get that done value with it you can get that job only whether you can get a certification the only way that you can accelerate your IT career so you better do that this is enough for you to you know for you and me to have 30 minutes and the front of me like oh you know do this and then you don't and you ended up not doing anything about it you know I'm very selective with the people that I work and the coaching program because I need to make sure they're gonna do exactly what I'm gonna ask him to do because that's the only way that I know a hundred percent they will be able to get results so if you want to be one of them you know what to do apply for that coaching program so anyways so again you know go through the process routers access control list extent I mean what else can you tell me about that okay I give you a few points for you to think about for you to come up with something good 17 you know DHCP my bad DHCP dynamic host configuration protocol right obviously most companies don't do that but proudly and a small company when they have probably ten computers you know they don't have the budget by a server but they still need that functionality and yeah they can probably get like the wireless router that you have a home but maybe you came up you you were the one that you're gonna manage the small you know Network and you're like you know and router you know a used router you know it would be it wouldn't be that expensive you know so let's do that you know let's let's let's take these networks to the next level list let's say right so you can configure DHCP on a router right now what else can you tell me about that you can tell me the process it goes to the right a computer that bo-ra Dora process and how that computer gets an IP from the router and what else can you tell me remember right when that computer plugs into a in through the sewage it sends a broadcast right and say hey you know I need an IP address but what about if that the the DHCP it's located in another router right and remember routers do not forward broadcast so then what what's that command for you to be able to make that happen if I'm not mistaken because I'm not a genius obviously I think it's IP helper yes I think is IP helper you know in order for you to be able to pass that specific broadcast which out to reach out the DHCP not serve upon in this case our router you see when you are able to tell me that I can a conversation and a story I'm like whoa you really know I mean I asked you a few things about you know can you tell me what you know about routers and then you were like DCP you told me that process up with the about a DHCP so now I know that you know a lot more than just routers I know that you've been going through configuration and some of that commands on the routers because you know a few people will be able to remember about you know the IP helper command for and you tone about broadcast you know I mean you've been tell me I mean I can see what's going on because you're the one putting in that in front of me and that's what I'm gonna like you a lot more than the other candidates that's why you're gonna meet my but my favorite you know if I ever if I ever have a opposition open more likely I'm gonna give it to you because I like that whether you communicate what you know to other people that whether you go on approaching an issue a project you see that's why that's why okay so 18 another thing for you to know it's obviously beep right routers VPN but what asking you tell me about that okay from this point on now I'm gonna leave it up to you okay I know quirky routers with p.m. put do I need to add a module right a week card yes no what type of protocol what options that I have you know because that's more than one option on VPN which one do you see that's one now it's like okay okay now that you told me that let me do some research and then let me come up with a story let me come up with a conversation based on everything even teaching me so far do that that's gonna help you big-time okay so VPN has you know a beautiful private network so 918 when why area network okay what else can you tell me about that what else can you tell me about that you know we have serial connection let's have a pro kospi it's it's just gone it's gone PPP I mean what what options do we have you know for one connections frame relay which one is the other one out there do you know think about it you see like how can you put this information or what is gonna help you and one of the things that I was saying you know obviously is the serial connection so on the serial connections okay what type of serious connections do we have you know we used to have this all one at t1 t3 connection for now that we like going superfast you know we have that silent connections and all of that good stuff you know what else I'm just giving you a few points I can tell you a few more but I don't wanna give you I mean I give you a lot so much on how to answer just something basic and a way that you can make it big and I really they will tell a lot more about you so what would you say about this I cannot let P me you can say related to a try and a firewall routers firewall or K what else can you tell me about a firewall you know if I ask you you know can you tell I mean you told me you know switches work under layer two okay routers you told me the work and a layer three okay and now you mention about firewalls or let me ask you where firewalls work and dollars a model now I'm really asking you what would you answer me like what will you answer me about firewalls right so you can say well that can probably do it the application a year and you probably freaking out run alike no Jorge yes you know we have physical firewalls right and we have appliances that pay on the application okay so it's not just under physical not physically you put a physical device but that's also based on appliances they are based on applications so yes you can google that and firewalls can be mentioned depending and the point of view and the application layer that's one what about that transport layer you know it's all about port TCP UDP okay that makes sense you see so what else can you tell me that it's gonna make me thing like wow you really know this topic and now only this topic put other topics related to this topic that's exactly how you need to answer that okay so you have some options with our firewalls and routers again and this is I will leave that up to you all of the routers or not all of the routers you know what type of edition Edition do you need because that's something that we talked about and video number one it's not just about the iOS right but the addition you know we have LAN LAN light we have learned vase we have IP vase and IP services so which one is the one or all of them ah you see something for you to do some research something for you to think about because another way for you to learn something it's all about the research okay so yeah so 22 koala quality of service this is a big one too you know another thing that you can say now that I'm thinking about this I remember when I had this not issue but at that point I didn't know that well that was a few years back I had a layer 3 switch and I didn't know because me thinking that's more like I mean a layer 3 switch more likely will do what the router does wrong you know I learned the hard way you know with a layer 3 switch yes you can do some quality of service but now so much or now as you get all the features on a router so under routers is basically where you get like and again depending and the addition that you have remember we have four okay and quality of service it's all based on okay that's traffic going through the wire right all kinds of traffic you know based on video based on audio based just on data files okay and you want to give the same priority no probably you're gonna give the video and the voice over IP a better priority than just data all right again something that you can talk about and why you know it's better just to go on doing that on the router instead of a layer 3 switch thinking that a layer 3 switch it's our router as well not same functionality based on quality of service so you see by me just giving you this information that will be more than enough for you to be like wow that's going to position better than everyone else because most people don't know how to do that only people are aware there yeah really well out there you know but probably I don't know where you are obviously but if you going through this video that's not because you have your system P that's not because you have your CCIE you know probably you're going through your CCNA probably you're new in the IT probably just want to find out what the hell I'm gonna say but probably you didn't know this information okay 23 modular and non modular and what that means is this what I told you on that video number one you know we have this more likely all of them most of them out there there are much more you know and that's basically because we have options we have what we call wig cards that we can add a few things and by the way this is something that I explain really well in the membership side you know I'm putting a lot of content for you to access at no cost like this video for you to go through me like wow this is really making a huge difference you know and let me tell you one thing based on the membership side I post seven videos each week seven to ten videos plug in I feel that weak heart for you to see for you to see a visual idea not just in a PowerPoint presentation but yes you know that's something that you can say as well now the next one Wireless okay the next one Wireless because yes we cover others are wireless you know wireless routers wireless routers wireless wireless routers okay so yeah that's something that you need to think about we have one in the back you know again we can add some of those modules and some of the routers for to get that Wi-Fi okay so again that's something for you to think about now what else can you tell me about that you know you can say yeah you know the other day I was going through it and I have this issue while configuring a wireless on my home based and and the channel because we have Gino channels from 1 to 11 that once a more likely we'll be using it's 1 6 and 11 if I'm not mistaking so you see like you can say a lot more about and not just all routers you know I can tell you too that they're wireless you know like no what else can you tell me now 25 obviously access points right so we have wireless access points and when we have a delayed wireless access points we have wireless controllers so you see how everything connects one way or another okay so routers Wireless so that means that we have wireless on our network that means that we have access points and those and most companies they have this white squares and by the way those are plugged in through Power over Ethernet and they obviously get connected to a switch so they're gonna turn on and we have one two three that's fine I can manage each one of them by individual but when we have like 20 when we have 4050 wireless access points there's no way that you will be able to manage them one by one but what you can do you know you can configure all of them through a wireless controller that way you go there and you are able to apply policies you know and any type of a configure configuration and that 20 40 50 100 access points that you have on that network you see and you just ask me about Wireless but I was able to tell you more and double kind of like the big picture and now whether I'm like wow this guy really knows a lot more that I was expecting I like that guy okay so that's all I have that's all I have so again if this is new to you go through this video again go to video number one if you haven't watched video number one that way you can now if I were you I will go through this exercise and I will be like okay let me write it down that 25 things let me write them down 1 2 3 20 25 okay now I have the 25 now I'm gonna take a timer and this is exactly what I'm gonna do I'm gonna probably take about ten minutes okay and I'm gonna go through this process like without stopping even though I'm gonna have the 25 things in front of me but how can I say it and by the way doesn't have to be in order do not have to be in order you know you can probably start by okay 25 things okay go 10 minutes I need to talk for 10 minutes okay about routers you know rotors work and a layer 3 of the OSI model that's a network layer by the way that's other devices they are the work they're the layer 3 switches but by the way you know their switches and our routers you know they have functionality of the routing and that's a reason why they're called l3 switches because they work on a layer 3 of the OSI Merrow poder not router the switches of and they're all about IP addresses and you know about some of the models and about this and about that and by the way NAT and about quality you see you don't have to an order up another way that you can talk about it and obviously for you to check other topics related to that twenty-five things that you have in front of you that will help you a lot because you're basically conditioning yourself and how to go through a technical topic you know what is gonna make sense to you in a way that you can talk about it in a way that you can probably teach it to someone else you know what is gonna help you big time so I will do that if I were you that's how I approach any new topic that I'm about to learn because that's a way for you to do it that's a way that I learned when I went through our process and learning the process of learning and accelerate the process of learning through many techniques so it works it works for me it's been
