course our website looking at the camera there calgaryhillsbuh.org and then click on members everything is there on that page also so again thank you everyone it's been awesome standing with us through these crazy days has been so so very much appreciated all right church let's do a bible study would you all take your bibles and open please to second samuel chapter 13 ii samuel chapter 13 as we just continue our our our story through the life of david as we find ourselves in ii samuel so let's pray lord we just open our heart to receive from you from your word pour your life out through the word that you send forth in power by your spirit to transform to show us your heart and to show us lessons for our lives that we would live by your word by your heart by your desire to bless our lives so we come with that heart and we open wide to you now in jesus name amen well we were just looking at david's great epic failure and you know as i mentioned before god does not glass over the weaknesses and failures of the characters of the bible in fact it seems like he makes a point of pointing them out it seems like that is so so that we can relate in other words so that we can say hey if god is merciful to him after that he's certainly going to be merciful to me and so you really can understand that god's open wide with honest truth about who people are in the scriptures and you know david oh we love i love studying the heroic david you know that's that's a joy because you know david and goliath you know like yes becoming king of taking jerusalem you know bringing the ark uh of the covenant into the city oh david you know and then you read what happened how did this happen like this it's just a tragedy of epic proportions remember the story right and the spring when kings go out to war david was taking a nap on the roof of the house right there we got a problem david nice little siesta in the afternoon life's good now got a commander to go out with the forces and do the fighting you know and things are good taxes are coming in bills are being paid life's kind of good let's take a nap in the afternoon and that's a dangerous point when when life gets to a certain place where it's not a struggle you know life is so many times i struggle and and certain people you know they kind of reach a certain place in life where it's not so much a struggle the bills are being paid you know and things are kind of good got some stuff set up for retirement you know and and that's a dangerous point because that's when you kind of lean back and rest on your laurels a little bit you know and and kind of start looking around at how how good things are and you stop pressing forward you stop pressing into the will of god you stop pressing forward to what god wants in your life and this is what happened to david so he's on the roof of his house after he gets up from his siesta and uh that's not hebrew that's spanish in case you didn't know and uh so he's looking out you know from the roof of his house and and he sees a woman who's washing now some suggest she's bathing i don't know it doesn't say particularly what she's watching and he sees her and inquires who she is we know this is a tragic story he finds out that she's the daughter of one of his senior counselors he's a daughter of a friend and then he finds that she's the wife of uriah the hitta well that should have ended it but it didn't end it david then inquired uh send someone to go and get her so she comes and this is really where there's clearly david has power david is the king this is clearly an abuse of power what is she going to do at this point and and and you know i think it goes beyond adultery certainly would have to go beyond adultery david's got power here and he abuses it and then she becomes pregnant so david's got a big problem and so he tries to now hatch a plan so he he comes back he inquires or sends uriah back from the war and so he inquires you know how's it going and all this now thank you for coming back and reporting to me now why don't you go to your house and wash your feet wink wink go to be with your wife he's hoping of course for a cover and uh but uriah has got character man and uh he says how can i do this thing joab and and uh and his men are camping in the open field and and even the ark of the covenant is in a tent how can i do no and so he stays uh at the at the king's door essentially in the in the doorway with the other men and uh so david has to come up with another plan figures i know what let's do let's get him drunk and so he does and still the man has integrity even drunk the man's got integrity and so he won't go to be with his wife and so david comes up with the worst plan of all he writes a letter carried by the hand of uriah to joab put him in the point of the fiercest battle and then have the men withdraw from him that he might die in battle so now he brings joab into this and joab does it and so then comes david to marry the woman adding one tragedy upon another so then nathan the prophet confronts david with a story uses a story to help david to see the point of it there was a very wealthy man with many many sheep and he had a guest come and so he took the sheep from this man who had a little lamb that was a pet in the house even it slept on his bed and ate from his hand and and and the the rich man took this one you lamb and took it and killed it and fed his guests and david when he heard this story of course it's a great story for david he's a shepherd is infuriated and so this man up to be you know killed for what he did and he will surely repay four times over and uh nathan then says you are the man it's you david and then he says i have sinned he openly owns it i have sinned but what we see in the other uh places of scripture psalm 51 psalm 32 that during that time after david's sin then before he's confronted he is in agony of soul there's an anguish deep within him as he is hiding his sin inside of himself this is a terrible terrible thing anyone who has done such a thing no show of hands because i think that many have experienced this the anguish in the soul how could i have done this thing and he's just groaning inside of himself god is going to rescue him from this god is going to save him from this and the destruction that would come into his life and so nathan is sent to confront david he owns it he repents of his sin god does forgive him and that the the he does not die because he's certainly worthy of it but instead he says you despised my word you did not hold my word in high esteem you despised it and you let uriah die by the sword therefore the sword will not pass from you in other words there will be trouble that will come in other words we understand that there are consequences one of the things we really need to take hold of to understand is that god forgives oh are we so thankful that god forgives but there are nevertheless consequences there's the necessity of rebuilding the life there's the necessity of restoring the life the good news is is that god never quits god never gives up god never casts you out that god will walk with you in the restoring and god will walk with you in the rebuilding that's the glorious lord that we have that brings us to chapter because now we're going to see the troubles that unfold in david's family and in david's life so let's read it chapter 13 verse 1. now it was after this that absalom the son of david had a beautiful sister whose name was tamar and abnon the son of david loved her although i think love might not be the correct word here amnan by the way is david's oldest son this is important to to remember he's the oldest son and therefore by tradition and by rights would inherit the position of king should david you know pass this is important because he's going to disqualify himself surely here so it says that absalom had a beautiful sister her name was tamar and amnon loved her and amnon was so frustrated because of his sister timar that he made himself ill he's sick with this desire and it says for she was a virgin and it seemed hard to amnon to do anything to her in other words she was a virgin she was committed to stay in the condition of her virginity to wait for her husband this is an honorable thing this is an honorable woman but amnon had a friend whose name was john adab the son of shamia david's brother okay so this is his cousin john adam was a very shrewd man let me interpret the word shrewd there how about conniving opportunist conniving opportunist how about manipulating conniving opportunist that probably would be enough there so john adab said to him oh son of the king why are you so depressed morning after morning will you not tell me so amnon said to him i am in love with themore the sister of my brother absalom now again uh that's a strange definition of love in fact i suggest that it's not love at all but it's the way he thinks of it although he thinks of it incorrectly because love is defined much differently than this and in fact one of the most awesome incredible definitions of love has to be found in first corinthians 13. that's the famous chapter of love where paul makes it very clear what love is and it's important to recognize because if a person says that he's in love you know is there a difference between being in love and love i mean is there such a thing is there a difference i mean i would really like to know is there a difference of being in love and love now he uses the phrase i'm in love he says by the way i looked this up in the hebrew it's not in there like that it doesn't say he was in love it just says that he loved which is to suggest he's he's he's interpreting it with the word in love who suggest that perhaps this isn't quite what love really is because it isn't and let me just read to you the best definition of love that there is on the whole earth first corinthians 13. i'll just read some of it if i speak with tongues of men and angels but don't have love i'm nothing i'm just a noisy gong clinging symbol i have the gift of prophecy even know all mysteries and knowledge and have all faith so i asked to move mountains but don't have love i am nothing that's a bold statement right there if i give all of my possessions to feed the poor if i deliver my body to be burned but do not have love it profits me nothing in other words i suggest that love by the definition of god is what makes a person something because without it i am nothing this is a very powerful word then he describes what love is love is patient love is kind does is not jealous does not brag it's not arrogant in other words it's not self-focused it's not self-serving it's not self-puffed it does not act unbecomingly that's not nice it's not thoughtful of the other person it does not seek its own ah don't you love that right there love does not seek its own for if one is seeking his own that is not love anybody will agree with me if if this is about selfishness if this if the focus is self i say it's more self love than it is others love self love i suggest is what amnon's problem is self-love it does not seek its own it's not easily provoked does not take into account account or long suffered does not rejoice in righteousness but rejoices with the truth bears all things believes all things hopes all things endures all things and love never fails what a great definition that is not what's going on with amnon says here that he saw her and loved her what that really is is he was attracted to her and it was self-focused in other words he thought he loved her because he loved himself and he projected that onto her this is important he loved himself and so he projected it onto her now joab hearing this verse 5 john john adab then said to him this is what you do he's a very clever manipulative opportunist and so he says this is what you could do lie down in your bed and pretend to be ill then when your father comes to see you you say please let my sister tamar come and give me some food to eat and let her prepare the food in my sight that i might see it in need from her hand so now by the way there's nothing further i mean he john adab is just suggesting here a way for amnon to be near to her but he's not suggesting there's not nothing here that's suggesting anything further but amnon takes it further so amnon verse 6 lay down pretended to be ill so when the king came to see him amnon said to the king please let my sister tamar come and make me a couple of cakes in my sight that i may eat from her hand so david sent to the house of tamar saying go now to your brother amnon's house and prepare food for him oh don't you wish that david could see through the roosts david you were a man of such insight how could you not see you are a you are a man you cannot see this but he does not see this maybe he's distracted maybe there's something going on in david which we'll look at so tamar went to her brother amnon's house and he was lying down and she took dough kneaded it made cakes and baked the cakes meanwhile it says in his sight so he's like you know enjoying the view of the thing you get my drift on this and so she took the pan dished it out before him but he refused to eat it so amnon said have everyone go out from me so everyone out everyone went out from him which should have been a a a huge red flag then amnon said to tamar bring the food into the bedroom that i may eat from your hand there so tamar took the kicks which she had made and brought them into the bedroom with her brother amnon when she brought them to him to eat he took hold of her and he said come lie with me my sister and she said answer no no my brother do not do this thing do not violate me for such a thing is not done in israel do not do this disgraceful thing now there is a lot that she says here that's very very wise now first of all we cannot blame her she has no experience in this realm of men and so in her naivete she is brought into this trap and so he takes hold of her and seizes her with power now and and he says come lie with me which suggests this has nothing to do with love this has nothing to do with marriage he simply wants her so she says no do not violate me for such a thing is not done in israel which i love that statement israel is better than this there ought to be a national morality do you think there is such a thing as a national morality you think the sum of the morals of a people could be called the national morality if you look at the sum of the morals of the people of our nation i suggest to you that the morality of our nation is not going exactly in the right direction anybody want to agree with me on this seems to me we're going in the wrong direction here but there is such a thing as a national morality it's the sum of the morals of the people and then you see when when there's a high regard for god when there's a high regard for god's word amongst his people then there is an influence of morality and i think that is the the element of the church the church ought to be and a moral influence on the nation we ought to be that preserving moral influence on the nation around us anybody want to agree the word of god surely declares it the word of god is certainly righteous and and helps people to see a right way to live for if we don't understand the right way to live we're going to live in such a way that brings destruction for sin is uh such that it brings forth death that is what the scripture says anybody who's been there and done it with sin would add their own testimony sin brings forth destruction and sin brings forth death anybody want to agree with me on this ain't been there done that had enough testimony to add your own word don't do this thing should not be done in israel this is a disgraceful thing and then she says this as for me where could i get rid of my reproach and ask for you now this is really an amazing speech she's asking him to think through this thing think through this thing look at the consequences look forward now let's look at the reproach that i will have to bear but let's look at you she says this is an amazing thing ask for you you will be like one of the fools in israel you will be like one of the fools in israel when it's known what you did you will be considered a fool four then he she says now therefore please speak to the king for he will not withhold me from you she one more effort at trying to stop him from doing this thing she's trying to find a way to marry him through uh asking david uh for permission is certainly better than what's about to happen so she's looked at her options and quickly surmised that this is what she's asking him to do do something honorable do something honorable consider the reproach that i will bear and consider yourself but you will be considered a fool now here's the thing that is important she sees that amnon does not see see what she sees is the future she sees consequences amnon sees nothing of the sort now this is this is important this is revealing because i'll tell you if if we can only understand the blindness that sin brings to the eyes of the soul blindness comes by sin when it does not see the consequences you see sin which is born out of the flesh thinks nothing of the consequences it only thinks of the moment it's a i like to describe the flesh you know kind of like that caveman approach me want without thought about tomorrow without thought about consequences me one the flesh that is within everyone who was born on the face of this earth with the exception of jesus christ is such that there is that desire of the flesh to want me want me what what i see me want food me what woman me want you give me want and that's the demand of the flesh and of course god has given to us to you and to me the holy spirit of the living god to take up resonance in our soul that the very power of the lord might reside in us that we might walk in the victory of the spirit that we might not fall to the desires of the flesh god wants us to be victorious and he gives us the spirit that we might be victorious amen let's give the lord praise for his provision he's made a way and the idea is to see it to see it what she's bringing here is a tremendous truth to see it wise is the one who can see insight understanding wisdom wise is the one who can see blind is the one who cannot see wise is the one who can see blind is the one who cannot see i would rather see so she can see and she brings to him the idea of consequences however verse 14 he would not listen to her and since he was stronger than she he violated her and lay with her then an interesting twist to the story amnon then after doing this terrible tragic wrongful offensive disgraceful thing amnon then hated her with a very great hatred what how could this be he you just said you loved her now you got the very thing you wanted and now you hate her how can this be i suggest that it gives us an insight into the very nature of man because when he said that he loved her in fact he loved himself and projected that onto her now he says he hates her why because he hates himself and he projects that onto her this is the nature of man he hates himself and so he projects it unto her he despises what he did he despises himself for surely she was right in fact he's a fool in his own eyes now he's projecting it on to her this is a great lesson and so he hated her now with a great hatred for the hatred with which he hated her was greater than the love with which he loved her that's an interesting commentary and amnon said to her get up go away this man is despicable but she said to him no no i'm not going away because this wrong and sending me away is greater than the other that you have done to me in other words if you send me away you you are adding even greater tragedy to this ask david you give he'll give me to you make it right make it right yet he would now listen to her verse 17 then he called his young man who attended him what he has a young man attending to him this may i go so far as to say that perhaps he's a spoiled uh brat would would that be okay if i you would not be offended if i called him a name here what he has a young man attending to him throw this woman out of my presence and lock the door behind her now she had a long-sleeved garment for in this manner the virgin daughters of the king dressed themselves in robes then his attendant took her out locked the door behind her so tamar put ashes on her head tore her long-sleeved garments to which which says very clearly i'm not one of the virgin daughters of david anymore so she tears the the sleeve of her garment and then she put on her hand on her head and went crying aloud as she went ashes on her head tore the sleeve head on her hand crying as she goes absalom her brother said to her he sees right he sees it immediately has amnon and your brother been with you now keep silent my sister he is your brother do not take this matter to heart which is to say i will take this matter to heart so timar remained and was desolate in her brother absalom's house and we don't know the end of her story very likely she ended up living as a desolate widow and not a widow but uh a maiden uh the rest of her life unmarried what another tragedy that befell now when david king david heard all these matters he was angry he was very angry so if you're so angry david do something an unrighteous deed of epic proportions has been done in the your own house in your own family why do you not do something david and i mentioned this on sunday and i suggest that the reason is because david has a dilemma how can he hold his children to account when he himself is guilty of something very similar to it and that is the the lemon that many people face i mentioned before uh our parents oftentimes have a struggle like this like how can i how can i say something to my children when i did the very same things you know i was promiscuous when i was a kid i was kind of rebellious when i was a kid i stole some things when i was a kid how am i supposed to tell them not to do it when i did the same thing myself to which i say but then you know something you know the forgiveness of god you know that the grief and the shame that follows is something that you don't want your children to repeat don't you want your kids to learn and not repeat the mistakes that you made when you were young i know i do amen i want them to have every advantage i want them to do well in life i want them to have everything that i did not have including a really good strong spiritual foundation that's what they need raise up your children in the fear and admonition of the lord right when they're old they will not depart from let them be have a foundation so amnon david rather was angry but did nothing but absalom verse 22 would not speak to amnon either good or bad for absalom hated amnon because he had violated his sister timor and he waited two full years that absalom after two years absalom had sheepshearers in ba'al hazur near ephraim and absalom invited all the king's sons all right here now the plot thickens verse 24 absalom came to the king and said behold now your servant has sheepsheavers in other words it's the end of the season the shearing of the sheep is going to bring to the conclusion of the season and now we're going to feast and have a celebration come and let the king and his servants go with your servant me and the king said to absalom no my son we should not all go lest we be burdensome to you now i suggest that absalom knew very well that david would say no although he urged him he would not go but blessed him then absalom said well if not please let my brother amnon go with us perhaps amnon is the oldest therefore the representative and the king said to him why should he go with you perhaps a little suspicion we don't know but he asked why but when absalom urged him he let amnon and all the king's sons go with him absalom then commanded his servants saying see now when am non's heart is merry with wine and when i say to you strike amnon then you put him to death don't fear have not i myself commanded you be courageous and be valiant and by the way according to the leviticus law what amnon did actually did deserve death but must be according to the judge of the land not in retribution and the servants of absalom did to amnon just as absalom had commanded then in other words amnon was just now killed so all of the king's sons arose mounted each his mule and fled now it was while they were on the way that the report came to david saying absalom has struck down all the king's sons and not one of them is left this is obviously a false report but this is the report that david at first hears absalom has done a treacherous thing all of the sons have been killed which is by the way it would have been believable because if a son was going to overtake the throne and to cast off his father he would there also kill his brothers this was a tragedy but it did happen in history so david now can you imagine the grief that he is carrying now he's got this report that all of his sons have been killed all the grief can you just imagine the grief in david's heart at this moment the king of rose tore his clothes laying on the ground and all his servants were standing by with their clothes torn and john adab son of shamia david's brother remember john adam he is a conniving manipulating opportunist did i mention that john adab responded do not let my lord suppose that they have put to death all of the young men the king's sons for amnon alone is dead he understood immediately what had happened because by the intent of absalom this has been determined since the day that he violated his sister tamar now therefore do not let my lord the king take the report to heart namely all the king's sons are dead only amnon is dead now absalom had fled and the young man who was the watchman raised his eyes and looked and behold many people were coming from the road behind him by the side of the mountain and jonathan john adab said to the king see behold the king's sons have come according to your servant's word so it has happened john adam was just trying to make himself look good in the eyes of the king it came about as soon as he had finished speaking that behold the king's sons came in and lifted their voices and they wept and also the king and all the servants wept over the death of their son amnon now absalom fled and went to talmai the son of amahud king of gesher and david mourned for his son every day now he's missing absalom this is just breaking david's heart you know it's so tragic everything was going so well for david everything was going so well and now it just seems that everything is falling apart and this is the consequence of the tragedy david is going to have to rebuild this thing so he's missing it says thinking of absalom verse 2 38 absalom had fled and gone to gesher and was there three years and the heart of the king longed to go out to absalom he wanted to go out to his son he wanted to have his son for he was comforted concerning amnon since he was dead but now he misses his absalom chapter 14. so joab son of zariah perceiving that the king's heart was inclined toward absalom joab sent to toccoa brought a wise woman from there and said to her please pretend to be a mourner he has a plan he's going to use the same approach that nathan the prophet did he's going to tell a story please pretend to be a mourner he says to the woman put on mourning garments don't anoint yourself with oil that means don't make yourself look good it's very common in those days people didn't have opportunity to shower like we do today it's an amazing privilege to shower but they didn't have this huge blessing and so to make themselves look good they would take some oil and just slick back their hair and this is you know you can just kind of wipe your hair and get all the dirt outs you know like this way isn't this a wonderful idea and then you're you look all anointed with oil seeing you look really great all nice and slick back and you just rub the dirt right out of your hair why did i bring that up i have no idea but don't do that don't look good don't anoint your head with oil but be like a woman who has been mourning for the dead for many days you look disheveled look out a place let your be crying tears make up running all this go to the king and speak to him in this manner so joya put words in her mouth now the woman of dakoa spoke to the king she fell on her face prostrated herself and she said this help oh king help and the king said to her what is the trouble she answered truly i am a widow my husband is dead your maidservant had two sons but the two of them struggled together in the field there was no one to separate them so one struck the other and killed them now behold the whole family has risen against the maidservant and they say hand over the one who has struck his brother that we may put him to death for the life of his brother whom he killed and destroy them the air thus they will extinguish my coal which is left so as to leave my husband neither name nor remnant on the face of the earth so david hearing her story he said to the woman go to your house i will give orders concerning you so he's going to solve it but he's kind of a matter of fact about it go i'll give orders go go but the woman pressed him and the woman of tagoa said oh my lord the king the iniquity is on me in my father's house but the king and his throne are guiltless she's setting them up now so the king said whoever speaks to you bring him to me he will not touch you anymore so she presses again the third time please let the king remember the lord your god so that the avenger of land may not continue to destroy lest they destroy my son so then david finally says as the lord lives this is a way of like saying it with clarity and boldness as the lord lives not one hair of your son shall fall to the ground then the woman said please let your maidservant speak a word to my lord the king and he said speak so then the woman and this is her speech why then have you planned such a thing against the people of god for in speaking this word the king is the one who is guilty in that the king does not bring back the one who is banished for we shall surely die and i love verse 14. it's actually filled with tremendous insight i suggest to you that it's like a a picture of the gospel all the way back to the old testament for she says this tremendously insightful word we shall surely all die we are like water spilled on the ground which cannot be gathered up again life is short in other words our life is being poured out yet god does not take away life but plans ways so that the banished one may not be cast out from him that is the gospel sinners who are cast out because of their sin are brought near by the gospel of jesus christ by the blood of jesus we have drawn near to the living god he has made a way for sinners to no longer be banished but to be brought into a relationship to the living god now the reason i've come to speak this word to my lord the king is because the people have made me afraid so your maidservant said let me now speak to the king perhaps the king will perform the request of his maidservant for the king will hear and deliver his maidservant from the hand of the man who would destroy both me and my son from the inheritance of god so she's continuing with her her thing then the maidservant said please let the word of my lord the king be comforting for as the angel of god so is my lord the king to discern good and evil and may the lord be your god be with you then the king answered and said to the woman don't hide anything from me that i'm about to ask you and the woman said let my lord the king please speak so then the king said is the hand of joab with you in all of this like he began to see through the whole thing is joab behind this and the woman answered and said as your soul lives my lord the king no one can turn to the right or to the left from anything that my lord the king has spoken indeed it was your servant joab who commanded me and it was he who put all these words in the mouth of your maidservant me in order to change the appearance of things your servant joab has done this thing but my lord is wise like the wisdom of the angel of god to know all that's in the earth so the king then said to joab behold now i will surely do this thing go therefore bring back the young man absalom joab then fell with his face to the ground prostrated himself blessed the king and joab said today your servant knows that i have found favor in your sight o my lord the king and that the king has performed the request of a servant so joab arose went to gesher and brought absalom back to jerusalem however the king said let him turn to his own house and let him not see my face this is not this is not full reconciliation so absalom turned to his own house and did not see the king's face now this is an interesting little side note in all of israel was no one as handsome as absalom so highly praised from the soul of his foot to the crown of his head there was no defect in him i'm not sure why that's important but it is going to be important in the story no doubt and when he cut the hair of his head and it was at the end of every year that he cut it for it was heavy on him so he cut it he weighed the hair of his head at 200 shekels by the king's weight this guy's got some locks and they they grow long he only cuts it once a year and it grows long because you can't hold it any longer 200 shekels of weight is a lot of course you know when you anoint that much hair with that much oil yeah there you go i mean what's it going to take a whole quart of oil to you know time to change the oil you got to go down to jiffy lube to do this job i mean this is really something where was i oh yeah i got distracted by that uh and to absalom was born three sons and one daughter whose name was tamar see he named the daughter after timor she was a beautiful woman of beautiful appearance all right back to our story now absalom by the way this hair i'm coming back to the hair but for a reason this hair is going to be trouble for absalom in the future i project because i've read the uh in advance this is going to be trouble that's why he's telling it to us now because his hair is going to be troubled later all right absalom lived two years in jerusalem and did not see the king's face then absalom sent for joab to send him to the king but he would not come to him so he signed again a second time but he would not come therefore he said to his servants see joab's field next to mine yeah he's got barley there go set it on fire so absalom's servants set the field on fire and joe abba rose came to absalom at his house and said why did your servant set my field on fire absalom said to joab behold because i sent for you i said come here that i may send you to the king to say this why have i even come from gesher it would be better for me to still be there now therefore let me see the king's face and if there's iniquity me then let him put me to death so when joab came to the king told him those words david called for absalom thus he came to the king prostrated himself on his face to the ground before the king and the king kissed absalom and now there is full reconciliation at least for a while for there is more entry yet to come there is more to the story yet to unfold what will happen to absalom what will happen to absalom's hair you must come next week and find out [Laughter] but this is a tremendous important story of reconciliation and i think it's important also to recognize that as this woman was picturing the gospel and the reconciliation that god wants through his son this story is picturing for us what it means that god wants us to have the fullness of reconciliation for i said this on the weekend it's important to remember that many people called to reconcile to god only come so far only come so far yet they stand at a certain distance because they have sin in their life because they've got shame because they've done things that they believe disqualified them from being near to the lord but the whole point of god's forgiveness is that we would be reconciled in full relationship to the living god don't stand afar don't stand distant from the lord the promises of god are for those who draw near the fullness of god is the is the good that would bless your soul that would fill your life with meaning and purpose and his life will fill your heart with the very life of the living god within you that's when joy comes that's when the soul is satisfied when you live too far from the lord you miss all the things that god desires that come when you live near to him draw near you're too far he says you're too far sometimes people say you know this this this thing the christian thing is not working for me like you say to which i say then draw nearer you're too far that's why draw nearer that's where the promises of god are poured out the glory of god is revealed the heart of of man is filled when you draw near be filled with the holy spirit of the living god and you will have the life of god let's pray father thank you for showing us your desire for showing us your heart to bless to bring us into the fullness of relationship to you god i pray for everyone in this place now
