[Music] foreign [Music] good morning the student council of saint mary basha catholic school welcomes you to st mary's church in celebration of catholic schools week today marks the end of national catholic schools week catholic schools week is a reminder of the privilege we have to be part of a faith-based education we are taught that through our efforts to be faithful to the gospel values that guide our school community we are helping to share the good news of god's love to those around us saint mary basha catholic school has been fulfilling its mission since 1944. we have a history of teachers who are dedicated to excellence in the classroom helping us learn the subjects of english math history science and social studies our religion curriculum focuses not only on information about our faith but helps students encounter the living god who loves us with an everlasting love our school has a clear mission to be a community of faith sharing the good news of god's love our school educates the whole child to be faith-filled knowledgeable disciple of christ who puts faith into action by helping others let us celebrate together the gift of 75 years of catholic education as we begin the mass [Music] is [Music] [Music] [Music] yours faithfulness is what i need faithfulness faithfulness [Music] take my heart [Music] to yourself [Music] in the name of the father and of the son and of the holy spirit peace be with you [Music] do you have any idea why the bishop greets you with peace be with you good question i won't ask the priests because that's the greeting of jesus resurrected from the dead to his very first apostles remember that when he died and he rose and the apostles were all locked away for fear and jesus comes resurrected and he says peace be with you the bishop greets you with that greeting of jesus himself for jesus christ is with us today resurrected and alive for us in his word in the holy eucharist and in the gathering of all of us as his holy body thank you to father dan for inviting me to be here thank you to father john for his presence the vicar for evangelization for mr dominic our superintendent and for all of you brothers and sisters who educate our children in the catholic faith and in all the other sciences thank you to my brother deacon we got you up early today before we celebrate the holy mass during this beautiful week dedicated to catholic schools let us first pause to call the mind our sins i confess to almighty god and to you my brothers and sisters that i have greatly sinned in my thoughts in my words in what i have done and what i have failed to do through my fall through my fall through my most grievous fault therefore i ask the blessed mary ever virgin all the angels and saints and you my brothers and sisters to pray for me to the lord our god may almighty god have mercy on us forgive us our sins and bring us to everlasting life [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] we praise you we [Music] lord jesus christ [Music] son of the [Music] the father of the world have mercy on us [Music] me [Music] [Music] jesus christ [Music] is [Music] [Music] today we celebrate the feast of the presentation of the lord when joseph and mary brought the child jesus to the temple to present him to god each of us come today to be presented before the lord and we ask that the lord accept the gift of our self and we want to pray this holy mass offer it for each of you and we want to offer the holy mass for all of those who are involved with our catholic schools throughout the entire diocese those that are viewing us through the different media outlets and all of those parents grandparents teachers administrators principals superintendent everybody involved as well as the pastors that help to educate all of these children in so many different ways so the masses offered for each and every one of you let us pray almighty of a living god we humbly implore your majesty that just as your only begotten son was presented on this day in the temple in the substance of our flesh so by your grace we may be presented to you with minds made pure through our lord jesus christ your son who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the holy spirit god forever and ever [Music] thank you a reading from the book of malachi thus says the lord god lord i am sending my messenger to prepare the way before me and suddenly they there will come to the temple the lord whom you seek and the messenger of the covenant whom you desire yes he is coming says the lord of hosts but who will endure the day of his coming and who can stand when he appears for he is like the refiner's fire or like the fuller's lie he will sit refining and purifying silver and he will purify the sons of levi refining them like gold or like silver that that they may offer do sacrifice to the lord then the sacrifice of judah and jerusalem will please the lord as in the days of old as in years gone by the word of the lord so [Music] who is this king of glory it is the lord who is this king of glory lift up o gates your lentils reach up your ancient portals that the king of glory may come in who is this king of glory it is the lord who is this king of glory the lord strong and mighty the lord mighty in battle [Music] [Music] reach up your ancient portals that the king of glory may come in who is this king of glory it is the lord who is this king of glory the lord of hosts he is the king of glory [Music] [Applause] [Music] a reading from the book of hebrews since the children share in blood and flesh jesus likewise shared in them that through death he might destroy the one who has the power of death that is the devil and free those who fear of death have been subject to slavery all their life surely he did not help angels but rather the descendants of abraham therefore he had to become like his brothers and sisters in every way that he might be a merciful and faithful high priest before god to expedite the sins of the people because he himself was tested through what he suffered he is able to help those who are being tested the word of the lord [Music] [Applause] oh [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Music] the lord be with you a reading from the holy gospel according to luke the days were completed for their purification according to the law of moses mary and joseph took jesus up to jerusalem to present him to the lord just as it is written in the law of the lord every male that opens the womb shall be consecrated to the lord and to offer the sacrifice of a pair of turtle doves or two young pigeons in accordance with the dictate in the law of the lord now there was a man in jerusalem whose name was simeon this man was righteous and devout awaiting the consolation of israel and the holy spirit was upon him it had been revealed to him by the holy spirit that he should not see death before he had seen the christ of the lord he came in the spirit into the temple and when the parents brought in the child jesus to perform the custom of the law in regard to him he took him into his arms and blessed god saying now master you may let your servant go in peace according to your word for my eyes have seen your salvation which you prepared in sight of all the peoples a light for revelation to the gentiles and glory for your people israel the child's father and mother were amazed at what was said about him and simeon blessed them and said to mary his mother behold this child is destined for the fall and rise of many in israel and to be a sign that will be contradicted and you yourself a sword will pierce so that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed there was also a prophetess anna the daughter of faneuil of the tribe of asher she was advanced in years having lived seven years with her husband after her marriage and then as a widow until she was 84. she never left the temple but worshiped night and day with fasting and prayer and coming forward at that very time she gave thanks to god and spoke about the child to all who were awaiting the redemption of jerusalem when they had fulfilled all the prescriptions of the law of the lord they returned to galilee to their own town of nazareth the child grew and became strong filled with wisdom and the favor of god was upon him the gospel of the lord so nice to see all of you here today thank you to mr dominic our superintendent and to all of you the teachers the superintendent the principals all of the janitors everyone that makes possible our catholic schools parents grandparents you're also very special in the holy gospel we hear something very very beautiful we hear that jesus came into a family in the beautiful jesus came into a family each of us have a family that love us that encourage us that support us and that bring us to the temple just like joseph and mary did for the child jesus and so our family is so important for each of us as it was in the holy family and the gospel also tells us something very beautiful that jesus grew in wisdom that he grew in strength that he grew in all of the ways that any of us grow in our daily life have you ever thought about that let's see are you six years old how old are you six is there anybody here that's three or four no not here okay six years old isn't that beautiful jesus was six years old at one time have you thought about that isn't that beautiful so you have to learn your english and your math and your science and your bible your religion jesus was just like you and he grew in his knowledge and his wisdom in his strength so let's see some of you must be eight years old let's see there you are over there how wonderful jesus was eight years old can you imagine that wow just like you growing growing growing growing becoming more strong and more intelligent and more knowledgeable now let's see where the 10 year olds oh my there's a bunch of them and just imagine that jesus was just like you 10 years old 10 years old can you imagine that wow and jesus was learning he was learning just like you and then after school he would go home and he would be with his mama and daddy in the holy family and then after he finished his homework what would he do he'd go out and play isn't that great just like you let's see where the 12 year olds way over there boy oh boy oh boy growing growing growing growing growing and the 14 year olds where are you there you are back there in the choir beautiful and the 16 year olds where are you do what huh high school oh there's no there's no high school here oh well it's early mr dominic did not give me my cheat sheet how wonderful so you get the idea that just as you started here at six years old and then you grow and you grow and you get smarter and you get stronger and you get more and more wisdom and you get more and more knowledge of jesus and of the church so also jesus he grew and he grew in wisdom in knowledge and strength he grew to become the beautiful person that god made him to be and so that is what catholic schools are all about your parents your grandparents bring you to catholic schools so that you may learn all about science all about math all about english all about geography all about the world but also about god and then you grow and you mature and you become those beautiful people those beautiful young men and young ladies that god has created it created you to be and then with the help of your family with the help of your parents and godparents your relatives your grandparents then together you can grow together and mature and become the family the beautiful family that god wants you to be and then once you go on to high school you continue learning and you continue maturing and you continue developing and becoming those beautiful young adults that god wants you to be and then you go out you go on to college do some of you have brothers and sisters that are in college good wonderful so you after you finish your studies here in elementary school and junior high then you will go on to college and continue learning and continue developing and continue being those beautiful people that god has made you to be today we celebrate the feast of the presentation of jesus in the temple and during this beautiful feast it is the feast of light because jesus is the light for the world so as you come to learn all of your lessons here at st mary's and throughout the whole diocese the catholic education once you learn all of those lessons then holy mother church catholic church will ask that you go forth once you graduate that you go forth and bring that light of jesus be those beautiful young men and women that god has created you to be we're very proud of you we're very proud of your families that enable catholic education to go on to our superintendent our administrators our teachers for everybody that helps you in this wonderful effort in this wonderful mission of maturing of becoming those beautiful young men and women that god has created you to be during this holy mass we ask for his blessing upon each of you and upon all those involved with catholic education throughout the whole diocese of phoenix uh let us we pray to the lord father you sent your only son into the world that he might enlighten our hearts and drive away the darkness of sin hear our prayers and answer them according to your holy will we ask all this through jesus christ our lord please be seated [Music] to you pray that i may have the grace [Applause] [Music] we are here [Music] and [Music] i will hold the cry for you in the night time of your fears [Music] [Music] [Music] till we see this [Music] when we sing to god in heaven we shall find such harmony born of all we know together of christ's love [Applause] [Music] thank you pray brethren that this my sacrifice and yours may be acceptable to god the father almighty may the offering made with exaltation by your church be pleasing to you o lord we pray for you will that your only begotten son be offered to you for the life of the world as the lamb without blemish who lives and reigns forever and ever the lord be with you lift up your hearts let us give thanks to the lord our god is truly right and just our duty and our salvation always and everywhere to give you thanks lord holy father almighty and eternal god for your co-eternal son was presented on this day in the temple and revealed by the spirit as the glory of israel and light of the nations and so we too go forth rejoicing to encounter your salvation and with the angels and saints praise you as without end we acclaim [Music] [Music] blessed is [Music] you are indeed holy o lord and all you have created rightly gives you praise for through your son our lord jesus christ by the power and working of the holy spirit you give life to all things and make them holy and you never cease to gather a people to yourself so that from the rising of the sun to its setting a pure sacrifice may be offered to your name therefore lord we humbly implore you by the same spirit graciously make holy these gifts we have brought to you for consecration that they may become the body and the blood of your son our lord jesus christ at whose command we celebrate these mysteries for on the night he was betrayed he himself took bread and giving you thanks he said the blessing broke the bread and gave it to his disciples saying take this all of you and eat of it for this is my body which will be given up for you in a similar way when supper was ended he took the chalice and giving you thanks he said the blessing and gave the chalice to his disciples saying take this all of you and drink from it for this is the chalice of my blood the blood of the new and eternal covenant which will be poured out for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins do this in memory of me the mystery of faith [Music] is [Music] therefore o lord as we celebrate the memorial of the saving passion of your son his wondrous resurrection and ascension into heaven and as we look forward to his second coming we offer you in thanksgiving this holy and living sacrifice look we pray upon the oblation of your church and recognize in the sacrificial victim by whose death you will to reconcile us to yourself grant that we who are nourished by the body and blood of your son and filled with his holy spirit may become one body one spirit in christ [Music] may he make of us an eternal offering to you so that we may obtain an inheritance with your elect especially with the most blessed virgin mary mother of god with blessed joseph her spouse with your blessed apostles and glorious martyrs and with all the saints on his constant intercession in your presence we rely for unfailing help may this sacrifice of our reconciliation we pray o lord advance the peace and salvation of all the world be pleased to confirm in faith and charity your pilgrim church on earth with your servant francis our pope and thomas our
