holy spirit be with you all lord by water and the spirit you give us new life lord have mercy christ by your cross you brought pardon and hope christ have mercy lord by your death you brought peace to the sinner lord have mercy almighty god have mercy on us forgive us our sins and bring us everlasting life let us pray almighty ever-living god look with compassion on our weakness and ensure us your protection by stretching forth the right hand of your majesty through our lord jesus christ a son who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the holy spirit god forever and ever a reading from the book of the prophet isaiah thus says the lord if you remove from your mids oppression false accusation and malicious speech if you bestow your bread on the hungry and satisfy the afflicted then light shall rise for you in the darkness and the gloom shall become for you like midday then the lord will guide you always and give you plenty even on the part's land he will renew your strength and you shall be like a watered garden like a spring whose water never fails the ancient ruins shall be rebuilt for your sake in the foundations from ages past you shall raise up repairer of the bridge they shall call you restorer of ruined homesteads if you hold back your foot on the sabbath from following your own pursuits on my holy day if you call the sabbath a delight in the lord's holy day honorable if you honor it by not following your ways seeking your own interests or speaking with malice then you shall delight in the lord and i will make you ride on the heights of the earth i will nourish you with the heritage of jacob your father for the mouth of the lord has spoken the word of the lord teach me your way o lord that i may walk in your truth incline your ear o lord answer me the holy gospel of our lord jesus christ according to saint luke jesus saw a task collector named levi sitting at the customs post he said to him follow me leaving everything behind he got up and followed him then levi gave a great banquet for him in his house and a large crowd of taska letters and all this we are table with them the pharisees of the scribes complained to his disciples saying why do you eat and drink with us collectors and sinners jesus said to them in reply those who are healthy do not need a physician that is sick do i have not come to call the writers to repentance by the sinners the gospel of the lord says the lord if you remove from your midst operation force accusation and demolish your speech if you bestow your bread on the hungry and satisfied afflicted then light shall arise for you in the darkness and the gloom shall become for you like the midday words we have just taken from the book of isaiah shall be the time of our reflection the name of the father and of the son and of the holy spirit dear friends today is the saturday mass after ash wednesday for more than three days now we've been reading about the cardinal the bedrock the foundation upon which the spirituality of land is built prayer fast and an arms given these religious practices pious practices help us come closer to god they help us to attract god's mercy god's blessing will repent of our sins and we become better children of god now in this reading the people of the old dispensation complained a lot to god and said god you commissioned us to pray and to fast and we have been doing all that why is it that you refuse to hear our prayers why is it that it seems to us that we are far away and god now says yes you pray to me your fast but it is not fasting and prayer are not ends in themselves if you fast and you pray and you oppress people who are under you you damage people's reputation if we criticize people unbecomingly and tarnish their image you will not expect me to accept your prayers and offerings i am not man in this reading four things i mentioned oppression malicious speech false accusation and and not keeping the lord's day holy our world is a war that is filled with oppression we are our witnesses to what is going on in russia and going on in ukraine russia russia's invasion of ukraine ensure our superior force that the might is right yes the western world and every other person that has the feeling of god in the heart in europe in africa every person has risen up in condemnation of this satanic attack on ordinary people innocent citizens we condemn it because it is wrong so many lives have been lost properties wasted and people impoverished it is always the poor that pays the price in my own country we are not doing better as we speak genotype genocide is going on in nigeria and this has been happening for the past 10 years perhaps these are not known to the western we media europe and all that and christianity stands the danger of being totally wiped out in my own country because of fundamentalism propagated by government in power so we as we do pray for the people of ukraine we also pray for my own country oppression is wrong no matter who does it no matter where is wherever it is practiced but this operation does not only stop at the top level we have lower levels operation even in our own families when people go to the restroom when i go to the restroom and i'm living in a community and i don't flash it that is a species of oppression when i eat food and dump the plate without washing it make life uncomfortable for other people that is an aspect of oppression when we intimidate to make life in life difficult for the junior staff working under us when we nag in the family nagging is a species of oppression a man bought a loud speaker um in thanksgiving after the death of the wife you know in africa and some other places people normally after burial on sunday they go to mass a brother loves me and a priest was wondering what is this going to do he says it is in honor of my wife whose mouth is always like this but it is not only women who nag most men nag and that is a species of oppression when we refuse to contribute or hold a job there are people who refuse to hurt a job in their family or to come refuse to contribute to family upkeep when we play music too loudly in our families so much so that people cannot listen that is an aspect of oppression when we waste family income on gambling or oppressed children in the womb through abortion that is oppression malicious speech when we gossip and backbite and backstab our friends and people who trust us that is oppression one of my mentors once told me that he has this philosophy of life that if you have nothing good to say about your neighbor keep quiet let us come closer to our lord jesus christ who descended condescended and accepted the sinner levi brought him closer to himself forgave him his saints and attended a banquet organized by levi and through that he came in contact with other souls other sinners like you and i and we are led to god's love and mercy let us never give up on anybody no matter how sinful the person may be god hates sins but he loves everyone saints and sinners alike may our mother continue to intercede for us as we keep on coming closer to jesus through christ our lord let us rise as a community of faith we place our prayers before the lord that the church may grow in grace and number as she spreads her message of salvation to the world we pray to the lord that political authorities may receive the grace and blessing of our almighty god in working to bring hope and peace to their people we pray to the lord that all women facing difficult or unplanned pregnancies may receive compassionate care and the support they need we pray to the lord that those in our faith community discerning a vocation to priesthood or religious life may find strength and consolation in the promptings of the holy spirit we pray to the lord [Music] that all who feel unworthy of god's forgiveness may the lord open their hearts to the gift of mercy that he is eager to be so we pray to the lord that those who have died may be welcomed into the loving arms of our merciful father and for the repose of the soul of david lamb for whom this mass is being offered we pray to the lord we pray with our mother mary held mary full of grace the lord is with thee blessed that thy amongst men the blessed is the fruit of thy arm jesus holy mary mother of god pray for us sinners heavily father we ask you to hear and answer the prayers we offer this day through your son jesus christ our lord amen blessed are you lord god of all creation for true your goodness will receive the bread we offer you fruit of the earth that will cover my hands it will become for us bread of life blessed are you lord god of all creation for true our goodness we have received the wine we offer you fruit of the vine and work of human hands it will become our spiritual drink pray my brothers and sisters that my sacrifice and yours may be acceptable to god almighty father lord accept the sacrifice at your hands for the praise and glory of his name the good and the good of all his church amen except we pray o lord the sacrifice of conciliation and praise grant that claims by his awakening we may offer minds and wealth pleasing to you through christ our lord the lord be with you lift up your hearts let us give thanks to the lord our god you're totally right and just our duty and our salvation always and every prayer to give you thanks lord holy father almighty and eternal god for you will that our self-denial shall give you thanks humble our sinful pride contribute to the feeling of the poor and so help us imitate you in your kindness and so we glorify you with countless angels as with one voice we praise we acclaim holy holy heaven and earth are full of your glory ziona in the highest blessed is he who comes in the name of the lord zana in the highest run in there holy oh lord the heart of all holiness may holy there for these gifts we pray by sending down your spirit upon them like they do fall so that they become for us the body and blood of our lord jesus christ at a time he was betrayed and entered willingly to expansion he took bread and giving thanks broke it and gave it to the disciples saying take this all of you and eat of it but this is my body which will be given up for you in a similar way when supper was ended he took the chalice and once more giving thanks he gave it to a disciple saying take this all of you and drink from it for this is the chalice of my blood the blood of the new and eternal covenant which will be poured out for you and for many for the forgiveness of saints do this in memory of me the mystery of faith save us savior of the world for by a cross and you have set us free death as we celebrate the memorial of his death and resurrection we offer you lord the bread of life and the chalice of salvation giving things that you have had us worthy to be your presence and many said to you humbly we pray that particularly the body and blood of christ who may be guarded into one by the holy spirit remember lord your church spread throughout the world and bring her to the fullness of charity together with francis a pope and thomas and the brother are bishops and all the clergy remember also our brothers and sisters who are falling asleep in the hope of the resurrection and all who have died in your mercy welcome them into the light of your face have mercy on us all we pray that with the blessed virgin mary marty of god with the blessed joseph her spouse for the blessed appals us and all the saints who have pleased you throughout the ages we may merit to be good as eternal life i may praise and glorify you through your son jesus christ through him and with him and in him oh god almighty father in the unity of the holy spirit our glory and honor is yours forever and ever at the savior's command and formed by divine teaching we dare to say our father who art in heaven hallowed be thy name thy kingdom come thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our christmases as we forgive those who trespass against us and lead us not into temptation or deliver us from evil deliver us lord we pray from every evil graciously grant peace in others that by the help of your mercy we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress as always the blessed hope and the coming of our savior jesus christ for the kingdom their power and glory are yours now and forever lord jesus christ to say to your apostles peace i leave you my peace i give you look not on our sins but on the faith of your church and graciously grant her peace and unity in accordance with your will who live and reign for ever and ever amen the peace of the lord be with you always let us offer each other the sign of peace lamb of god take away the sins of the world have mercy on us lamb of god take away their sins to the world have mercy on us lamb of god we take away the sins of the world grant us peace behold the lamb of god
