all right people catfish dave here it's uh february 27th it's 10 30 a.m uh every weekend man i get rained out and i'm sick of getting rained out it's supposed to rain all day blessed weekend so i started checking weather across the country to find out where it wasn't raining turns out if i drive about four hours over into the carolinas i might could actually do some catfishing without getting poured on by the deck blasted rain so uh i am headed to uh charlotte north carolina i am looking to be on the water somewhere around lake wiley i'm probably going to fish the upper end of it hoping to get some currents and a place i've never been i'm fixing to go today i got my own bait we're going to head on down here and see if these catfish is going to play it's a full moon tonight so i'm expecting my best chance or a fish are going to be in the few hours of daylight that i actually get to fish so let's head on down here to charlotte and see what we can put in this boat [Music] welcome to north carolina this right here people is a good place to be in a tornado but a bad place to be in an earthquake all right people i had to stop for some grub i'm just outside of a shelby north carolina i'm at the waffle house and they couldn't get nothing right in there the waitress was nice i left her an extra tip but i watched them cooks mess her up every order including mine and i said just give it to me like it is i got to go i got to make a catfish dave show i ain't got jack on my hashbrowns no ketchup no nothing so i've got a double order of no nothing because there ain't nothing on it either way we're about an hour from the fishing spot [Music] so [Music] do [Music] we're here [Music] i already know i've arrived [Music] i can see the water i can see the water that's how i know i've arrived all right people my navionics app does not work in this lake i don't have it set for this area so this is going to be a guessing game i've got a couple bridges here there's a bridge right up here that's automatically structured this one's got all kind of stuff uh i'm gonna get up around it and start off the first thing we're trying to do here is just not get skunked it might be a little noisy with these cars but i'm gonna anchor down by this bridge while i'm figuring out what i'm going to do here i don't know this river bottom at all my navionics is not working here because i don't have this area of the country downloaded in my phone there is some bit of a hole here some bit of a current break here with the island right behind me it's not really a creek it's just kind of a cove back there i'm going to start here it's awful noisy with them dag blasted cars either way there's water here there should be catfish here i've got a few hours before dark getting a late start but it is what it is i'm here and i'm in the catfishing biz water temps 48 degrees it's a little cold for a flathead but from my understanding this river has blues in it i've never been here that's just what they say i see they got them dag blasted bass boats in the carolinas just like tennessee there goes some jag blasted channel cat [Applause] i didn't drive four and a half hours for no channel cap well i sure ain't catching no kind of numbers here as a matter of fact i ain't caught jack squat i've had a few little channel cat twitches on the ends of my rods i don't have long before dark so let's pull anchor see if we can find something better than this right here it's a pretty crazy looking bottom right here there's a lot of breaks in the current down there for flatheads there's an old demolition bridge that i'm right next to and there's an old there's a existing railroad bridge behind it i guess this is the old bridge and i've done pretty good by some of these old blown up bridges before it ain't that creek that creek's way on down there but it's worth a shot got a little over an hour of good daylight i don't know unless time's different over here might be a different time here i'm four and a half hours from the house i just need a catfish on this video something besides a dag-blasted channel cat it's awful cold for a flathead but it's not impossible not if you put one right in front of his lip i should be real close to one's lip right here looks like flathead territory to me my guest is the best place to fish this time of year would be on the lower end of wiley this upper end business is probably more of a spring summer spot very early fall either way there's structure where i'm at considering i'm fishing blind that's the only way i know to catch a fat cut i ain't got time to ride up down this river looking at holes trying to find holes where i'm at looks good to me [Music] i'll bet you that's a channel kit it could be a small blue yeah i think it's a little bigger in the chat it's probably a blue yeah it's all beat up blue kit look at the mud on that fish and man this thing is scraped up and beat up got scrape marks all over it since i'm down in deeder melhorn's backyard we're gonna hold it in front of the camera look at that slob woo y'all hear that over there that's a dag-blasted dog there's always a dag-blasted dog in my videos even if i go to another state hey shut up dog dag blasted dog man well at least i know we can't get a blue cat this far up the river i ain't got no idea where i'm at but these is the ugliest waffle house waitresses i've ever seen in my life in this town i think what happened is the first shift didn't come in and so the third shift had to work over and that's what i got they did get my order right this time i'm on to some place i've never been a place called tillery reservoir [Music] you ain't gonna tell me to stay straight i mean really just tell me when to turn don't tell me when to stay straight that's stupid i already know to stay straight if you ain't telling me to turn ah staying these roads are rough around here man i was doing this way out here we're way out here in the woods man way out here in the woods man it's foggy out you can't see more in about five feet i won't know i'm at the lake when i get to the lake because i won't be able to see it well how do i get in here man it told me to take well i don't know how to get in there people all driving like idiots around here always in a big race it's sunday you ain't going to work you ain't going to work it's sunday bud i don't even know how to get back here i don't spill coffee all over my pants i don't know how to get down there oh i see it they lied to me the gps lied to me it's one of those you can't get there from here type of deals told me to turn and i wasn't supposed to turn i know one thing there's a lot of people at this ramp for this out of the country place golly this is a busy place busy place for a little town [Music] [Applause] [Music] did [Applause] [Music] [Music] all right y'all i'm anchored right outside this creek right now and it makes me nervous because i got this big bass tournament and i know how they like to fly and you can't see nothing out here and i'm right in front of this creek where they're going to be coming in and out so i'm hoping all 50 or 60 of these guys has come common sense i heard a couple of them take off out of the creek wide open so there's not much visibility out here you're kind of a sitting duck waiting on an accident to happen i gotta be alert i gotta be on my toes i gotta be ready to jump got just a little bit of current here lots of mud in the water i kind of like that muddy water stirs things up i'm assuming they've had rain here to get this reservoir this color unless just it's just a muddy river i don't know either way the main goal for the day is to not get skunked so i'm getting here at a lot better time than i did over on the catawba river i'm actually here mid-morning so i'm actually going to be here during an actual bite this should be a good place for fish to be staged up so of course there's always a dag blasted dog barking in my videos hey shut up dag blasted dog i like this spot a lot better than when i was fishing on the catawba river i can tell you that i'm actually in about 40 foot of water here at the mouth of a true feeder creek a big creek system at that lake tillery somewhere in north carolina looks like a catfish lake to me oh oh oh oh [Music] i believe something's on that middle rod right there i believe something's on that middle rug i felt heard a loud thump that acts like a flat head [Music] oh yeah [Music] that's a pretty good size fish right there oh man y'all couldn't see that man that fish came unhooked that was a huge stump that was a huge stump it shook the boat and he came off man i got a that was a big fish oh you got to be kidding me [Applause] [Music] very good chance that was a flathead when i'm suspending for them i don't know they seem to come off some reason they got a really wide tooth patch and if it don't come around that corner bad things can happen but that was a big fish man it could have been a big blue that was a big fish man that's heartbreaking not only would that got the skunk out of the boat that would have been a big fish oh man the thump from him inhaling the bait just shook that rod holder and then i seen that rod just barely down like that man oh man that's heartbreaking that is heartbreaking right there see if i can get some of this uh water off this lens man that's heartbreaking people golly oh that was a big fish that was a big big big i fish that rod to the right's got something on it [Music] [Music] mmm [Music] so [Music] [Music] do that fish inhaled that big old bait ain't no big fish [Music] well we miss the monster but the skunk is out of the boat [Music] like tillery blue well we lost a monster landed one so far it's been a mixture of heartbreak and fun it's still early 8 48 and i've got plenty of bait the bite seems to be on and i seem to be in a good spot i like that a lot hopefully the bite stays hot and i get rewarded for driving four and a half hours to lake tillery i'm going to throw out a fourth rod up here in the mouth of this creek and just leave it on clicker man give me that fourth rod option that's a bite that's a bite that's a very subtle bite on that middle rod [Music] very subtle bite oh yeah [Music] that's another good fish right there i don't think it's as big as the first one but it's bigger a lot of head shaking going on it's got to be a blue [Music] he ain't too big greg but he's still bigger than the one [Music] got quite a bit of current going on here [Music] [Music] ain't done yet it's not a bad fish [Music] oh lordy that fish is bigger than i thought it was it's short got a lot of girth i'm gonna go ahead and get this bait out real quick it's nice and cool this morning he'll be all right for a second [Music] oh lake tillery north carolina that's a nice fish right there for the first time down here ugh get it get it get it that's a dieter mill horn size fish look at that slop if we're gonna do it let's do it right i already know there's big fish in here i found that out early that decreases my odds of numbers but i just might hook a tank i got a fish just sitting with that
