this is the elegant Oxford with your host and Preston sotto I was contacted by the owner of these beautiful handmade cap toes by Crockett & Jones they've been producing some of the finest shoes since 1879 out of Northampton England needless to say the owner was having a little bit of a leather emergency and needed some help returning these shoes back or at least close to their original condition the finish had started to fall off so I needed to get to work I couldn't reapply a factory finish since I'm not Crockett & Jones so I needed to remove whatever finish was left on the shoes in order to expose the bare leather underneath and work with that I used 100% acetone and rubbed at the old finish with slight pressure until I was satisfied this step took a while because the original finish was really on there it was pretty frustrating but my persistence paid off as a side note this finish would have naturally come off over the years anyway since brushing applying polish and wearing your shoes outside in the open are abrasive by Nature [Music] [Music] now I needed some deep conditioning so I started by using Saphir renovate or to clean and moisturize this dry calf you can see it doing its job here and hydrating the leather really well [Music] as you can see here some areas darkened immediately but that's not permanent I left the rent of a tour on overnight before brushing for a soft shine [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] the shoes look way better now but they need some pigment to restore the lost color here I use severe modality or cream polish in dark brown to get some color back in this particular cream contains a lot of pigment and is perfect for jobs like this Saphir cream is also excellent at pulling off old polish since it penetrates so deeply [Music] [Music] [Music] you can see here that the cream alone is doing a fantastic job the shoes are looking ten times better I applied two coats and waited five minutes in between brushing [Music] [Music] [Music] now the owner didn't just want to restore his shoes he wanted a high-gloss mirror finish on the toe caps using Saphir Pat deluxe wax and tan and dark brown and mirror gloss in black I started to apply the finish [Music] the process is simple but it's not easy to accomplish too much pressure and the wax comes off not enough pressure and the shine does not develop and you're left with a gunky waxy residue apply a layer of wax add a drop of water and buff with two fingers add more wax another drop and buff again Maher shines can take hours so be patient and do the best you can I really wish there was some secret to it but it's mostly practice good materials skill and some luck just like life [Music] all righty we're all done I am very confident the owner will like them they look better than you and are ready for many wares and head turns to come thank you so much for watching if you've enjoyed this video please like subscribe and share you can find me on Instagram and Facebook at the elegant Oxford links to my pages are in the description of this video remember always put your best foot forward the small details matter most so don't forget to hashtag shine your shoes see you next time [Music] [Music] [Music] you [Music] [Music] [Music] you
