Just an idea here, but I feel like adding in bullies is a good opportunity to test out the "Drive your rival to murder" mechanic presented in the cinematic video from a few months ago.

Here's an example scenario: Say you convince the bullies that Asu Rito is secretly using performance enhancing drugs.

The bullies of course would have a field day with these rumors and begin spreading them like wildfire, thus causing Rito's reputation to drop, and resulting in her losing out on an expensive sports scholarship she's been qualified for.

This sends Rito into a deep depression, and her mind is in a very fragile state. If Ayano is already friends with her, she could convince Rito to come to school with either a gun or a knife, kill one of the bullies, and then kill herself by convincing her that she has nothing left to live for.

Both the rival and a bully are eliminated, and Ayano gets away with murder.

Now bear in mind this could be YanDev's plan all along, it's just something I thought would be interesting to see happen one day.

Two thoughts on this video: 1: Some idiot in the future is going to think that having the bullies all be darker skinned than the rest of the cast is going to be a right race thing.

2: The bully faction could be like a club the same way you could be a delinquent where they're an option of a high rep run since the bullies also double as the popular girls. They'd probably have a powerful faction effect where joining them means you're considered cool and trustworthy like them, basically they'd let you have stronger social but in exchange you'd have to hang out with them after school and do normal girl activities like karaoke, eating out, etc. So joining the theoretical bully/popular/mean girl faction would have you "waste" weekends and afterschool time trying to stay friends with them so you can stay cool and popular.

I wonder if a character using their smartphone like that will have lowered spatial awareness because of how engrossed they are in it.

OMG they're like the Heathers and the Plastics fused with Bratz dolls and sat too long in the tanning beds! I love their look and this is gonna be a cool mechanic. (Grool mechanic? Cady said "grool" and she was a Plastic for a while.)

No worries about the long wait! This is one of the biggest updates I've seen in awhile. The phone addict personality is a huge game changers. Plus the bullying mechanic adds a ton. Aesthetically it makes the school feel more real, and it could be a huge tool when trying to change NPC pathways.

In 2015, I stated that lowering a student's reputation would cause them to be bullied. However, this raises a question: Who does the bullying? All of these students are friendly people, the martial arts club has sworn to uphold justice, the occult club is too timid to bully anyone, the delinquents keep to themselves, and don't cause trouble, unless they feel threatened. Everyone else at school is friendly or harmless. So, where are the bullies? Because none of the current characters seem like bullies, I decided to create some new characters to fill that role. And as of today, they are finally in the game. Your mental image of a bully might look something like this, but in reality, a person who is nasty on the inside doesn't always look that way on the outside. These are the bullies of Yandere Simulator. They're pretty, they're trendy, and they're popular. They present themselves as pure, sweet, innocent angels, but when nobody's looking, they can be the cruelest people in school. If there are students whose reputation is below a certain threshold, the student with the lowest reputation will be targeted for bullying. A student who is bullied will use different walking and standing animations than normal students. Instead of following their normal daily routine, they will avoid other people. At the beginning of the day, the bullies will put nasty graffiti on the desk of the student they have decided to torment. During lunchtime, Musume will harass the student who has been chosen for bullying while her friends point and laugh. In addition to bullying events like these, the bullies will behave differently from normal students in various ways. First, they consider their time to be very valuable. If you try speaking to them with a normal reputation, they will look annoyed with you. But if your reputation is high, then they will completely change their behavior around you because they will actually care about making a good impression on you. After classes end, students are expected to tidy up the school; cleaning chalkboards, windows, desks, etc. However, during cleaning time, the bullies will sneak off to the girls' bathroom and gossip about the latest rumors and drama, instead of performing their cleaning duties like they're supposed to. Because they are considered to be trustworthy, their gossip can have a harsh effect on your reputation. If one of them sees you misbehaving, you will receive twice the reputation penalty you would receive from a normal student. Because they are so pretty, they are very popular with the boys at school. A photograph of their panties is a lot more valuable than a photo of an average girl's panties. When a student in Yandere Simulator witnesses murder, their reaction depends on their personality. A student with the Coward persona will beg for their life and then run out of school, a student with the Hero persona will attempt to apprehend you, a student with the Teacher's Pet persona will run and tell a teacher. All five of the bullies use a completely new persona that has not been in the game until now. It's called the Phone Addict persona. The bullies are absolutely addicted to their smartphones and are holding them almost every moment of the day. If a Phone Addict witnesses you committing murder, they will quickly snap an incriminating photo of you and begin texting it to the police. Once the police have irrefutable evidence that you're a murderer, you'll get an instant game over. In order to prevent this, you'll have to chase after the Phone Addict who took a picture of you and kill them before they can text it to the cops. If a Phone Addict discovers a corpse, they will follow the same procedure as if they'd witnessed murder: reporting it to the police, who will arrive at school shortly afterwards. The bullies' daily routine involves walking throughout the school, much like the Student Council. For this reason, you might consider them to be walking security cameras capable of giving you an almost instant game over. Indeed, their placement throughout the school will be a very important aspect of the game's design. For example, let's imagine that one of your rivals is alone having a private phone call. This would be the perfect moment to kill her, but that would make things too easy. I would put a Phone Addict and a Hero nearby, so that the moment you kill your rival, you'll be photographed and then chased by someone trying to apprehend you. The obvious solution is to kill both of them before attacking your rival... ...but, of course, I would put multiple Phone Addicts nearby, including one whose scream would instantly alert all of the teachers in the faculty room. The player would have to be very resourceful in order to devise a way to eliminate their rival without being caught, or just wait until a different opportunity later in the week. These students weren't just added to the game for show; their placement around the school will be an integral part of making it challenging to eliminate your rivals. The bullies won't be the only Phone Addicts in school. For example, Midori is a Phone Addict now. Additionally, any student who witnesses murder while their phone is in their hand automatically switches to the Phone Addict persona and snaps a photo of you. However, they will text the police at half the speed of a natural Phone Addict. I have considered ways for Yandere-Chan to join the Student Council and even join the Delinquents. However, I don't think it will be possible for Yandere-Chan to join the bullies. There are reasons why it would benefit the player to join the Student Council or the Delinquents, but being a bully really wouldn't grant the player any significant advantages. I have a lot of ideas for ways to flesh out the bullies, but I'm also very eager to work on the other features and characters that are necessary to give the player a fun and challenging experience. So, for now, I'm just going to leave the bullies the way they are, and move on to my next priority. I'm sorry that there was such a long gap between this update and the previous one. Fortunately, my next video will probably come out much sooner. Thank you for following the development of Yandere Simulator!
