ass credit any runaway brides or grooms out there if so what's your story several years ago I had a girlfriend of several months asked if I wanted to join her at a wedding of one of her old college friends about a week before the wedding things were looking a bit shaky apparently the two of them had a huge fight over something trivial regarding the reception and it almost brought the entire thing down my girlfriend acted as the voice of reason along with each of their parents and things cooled off and everything was beautiful fast-forward to the wedding my girlfriend was with the bride up until a few hours before the ceremony I get to the church and she comes up to me with a concerned look on her face all she says to me is I'm really worried about today that isn't exactly the greatest thing you want to hear about a wedding though I didn't know the groom at all and had only met the bride a couple of times still unless you are the worst person in existence you want to see a wedding go off without a hitch my girlfriend ended up being the harbinger of sorrow it seemed as her statement to me was an omen that came true the bride was halfway down the aisle she stopped dead in her tracks burst into tears looked at her father and said I can't marry him she bolted out the door she came in mass confusion and chaos ensue the curious thing I found about the entire bit though was the groom he looked relieved positively relieved I found out a couple of weeks after that both sets of parents had pushed for them to marry each other though I never actually found out the reasoning behind it both families were pretty affluent but something was really off about the entire thing to this day I still do not know the real reason why she couldn't follow through and why he looked so relieved that she didn't I was a DJ for several years during which time ended many many weddings only once did I ever see someone left at the altar prior to the day of the wedding itself I had met with the bride and groom to go over the wedding details my initial impression was that the two of them were a lovely couple with a bright future the groom to be however had been cheating on his fiancee for months before the wedding with an ex-girlfriend on the actual day I found myself playing pre-ceremony music for a half-hour after the ceremony was scheduled to start as approximately and 50 guests sat and waited awkwardly as it happens the Grimm had admitted to one of his groomsmen the night before the wedding that he had been cheating on his fiancee this groomsman rightly thought that this was a particularly crappy thing to do so he told the groom that he should tell the bride the truth or he would himself the groom's response was to wait until the morning and just leave he eventually called his parents an hour before the ceremony and told them he wouldn't be coming they spent the next hour and a half trying to convince him to change his mind meanwhile the bride is in her dress with her bridesmaids and has no idea where her fiance is or why he left I learn all this by the way well after the fact I often acted as a master of ceremonies during weddings so I kept in constant communication with coordinators caterers venue staff photographer a where'd that the groom was m.i.a and it became clear that something was up when the groom's parents had arrived at the venue and he had not they eventually had the coordinator break the news to the bride since the groom did not wish to speak to her and they didn't want to do it themselves naturally the bride was devastated but she didn't want to simply tell all her guests to leave the reception was at the same venue as the ceremony so she decided to go ahead and have the party without the groom she changed out of her wedding dress and still attended the next day I called my boss to tell him what happened and he and I both decided that I would forego my pay and we wouldn't charge the bride's family the photographers were good friends of ours and after they talked to us they decided to do the same the bride and the bride's father were so grateful that they both called me personally a few days later it turns out that about a year later one of the bride's sisters was getting married they booked our company for their wedding and requested that i DJ this wedding went off without a hitch and everyone had a great time after the reception was over I'm packing my equipment when the bride who was left not her sister came up and struck up a conversation we ended up talking for a while I worked up the nerve to ask her out and we were together for about two years a good friend of mine was getting married and the night before the wedding the bride's family decided it was a bad idea they canceled all the arrangements locked the gifts and the dresses etc in a storage shed and took back the car they were letting the bride use to get around and cancelled her cell phone she was on a family plan with them she didn't find out until the next morning my buddy's brother and best man was a superhero he found a new gorgeous dress and bridesmaid dresses made new arrangements for the reception the parents had kept the booking but wouldn't allow anyone to go the church cancelled on them so the bride and groom could book it again for free found some awesome caterers etc he put everything on his credit card he put together a very classy wedding in about five hours it was an amazing wedding and the reception was a blast when my buddies in law's decided that they wanted to keep their relationship with their daughter he was extremely gracious but everyone knows he's gonna have the moral high ground with them forever my family and I had flown to Canada for my cousin's wedding everything was going great and we had helped set up the reception my dad who had been a baker when he was younger made the cake and he and my mom decorated it beautifully so right before the service began we made sure to get a nice seat where we could see easily but where we could also slip out once the wedding was over so we could serve refreshments the shindig begins and all the people are brought in the flower girls do their thing etc then when it's time for the bride to come in nothing happens my cousin isn't in the foyer a we wait and wait and wait I'm sure this whole time my parents are wondering what they're going to do about the reception the pastor leaves to go check on her finally he comes back and whispers something to the pianist who then proceeds to do the wedding march my cousin emerges hastily in a casual dress and barefoot the wedding then goes on as normal turns out there had been some horrible wardrobe malfunction and her dress wasn't going to work anymore also the shoes that had been brought in for her were too small so she couldn't wear them either she had been frantically changing into another outfit so she could go on with the wedding I can only imagine what went through the mind of that poor groom my sister was left at the altar on her wedding I was about 13 her maid of honor he just said no and walked out when asked if he would take her to be his wife it was horrible after he joined the army and got married like six months later and my sister moved back in with us she stayed in my room and would cry herself to sleep every night for months I can't really blame him my sister is terrible with money and had piles of debt it's been 10 years and she's now married to a guy we all really love but we think she made herself get pregnant recently he doesn't want kids and now their marriage not even after a year is struggling super badly my fiance and I loved my brother-in-law and they get along like lost twins he also makes all the money so it'll be interesting to see how this crap turns out I'm using a throwaway for this one as some of my friends and family know of my regular account and I don't necessarily want them to know that I shared this story I was the best man at a wedding where both the bride and groom were left at the altar perhaps not in the way you'd expect but it was still an awful situation the wedding was three years ago in the beginning of June when it was a hundred plus degrees Fahrenheit it normally isn't that hot at that time of the year but it was just brutal not only was it that hot but it was also ridiculously humid as well it was so bad that it was to the point where it was just excessively dangerous all of us involved with the wedding had been watching the forecast and knew ahead of time that it was going to be dangerously hot we talked to both the groom and bride about it but they absolutely refused to have it inside or make any other concessions because the bride always dreamed of an outdoor wedding next to the water and yeah that was a problem in and of itself the water was next to a murky mosquito producing pond which didn't help matters either they crammed in a ton of ez-up tents and industrial sized fans but it hardly did anything to help we could we could hardly even talk to each other bad day because the half-dozen six-foot-tall fans made it so loud but wait there's more the wedding was supposed to start at 2:00 p.m. it didn't everyone waited outside in the brutal heat for 45 minutes for the wedding planner who had the rings she finally shows up and just laughs it off as if it were nothing by then practically everyone aside from the parents and a few in the actual wedding party had already laughed because it was just oppressively hot a bridesmaid and the mom of the groom both had to be taken down the road and inside because they were suffering from symptoms of heat exhaustion the minister even booked at the hell out of there and drove off as soon as they both kissed no objections were made unfortunately but back when I worked in a hotel a few years ago I got to witness a very interesting wedding in preparation we had to ensure we'd ordered enough blue wkd in as this was the groom's drink of choice first red flag the whole wedding took place in the hotel the function room also hosted the ceremony so we started pretty early that day before the ceremony the bride had taken three bottles of Prosecco up to her room whilst she was getting ready and was clearly tipsy before the wedding started but seemed to act sober enough that whoever was conducting the ceremony was none the wiser ceremony seemed normal but I was prepping the bar so wouldn't have known either way as it ends all the guests flood out for drinks whilst we changed the function room and set out the tables for the sit-down meal the guests were rough to put it politely I already knew one of them as he'd been to the hotel before acting like a total wanker when I told him the bar was closed and I wouldn't be serving him however he was being especially polite to me this time as it was clear his date for the wedding was definitely not the same girl he was in with just a few weeks ago who I suspect was a paid acquaintance after the bride finally gives up trying to shot disgusting liquors that have likely been there since the hotel was built they head to the dance floor the party starts winding down and it's time for the last dance but the bride decides she prefer to have this with a male wedding guest which really annoyed the groom she then loudly announces she'll be throwing an after-party in their suite and everyone is invited in the hot tub funnily enough the groom is thrilled and kicks off another member of the staff manages to calm everyone down and convinces the deejay to play the last dance song once more before he leaves and the groom agrees everyone starts packing up and the bride comes back from her room in her third outfit of the night a nice gray stained tracksuit she's adamant she wants another cigarette before bed God knows how many packs she went through that day especially sad considering the money for the wedding came from her parents inheritance who both died of cancer she can't find a lighter and becomes irate screaming at the groom for one room claims he doesn't have one but not taking no for an answer she rifles through his pockets and finds one holding it aloft she screams at him that he's a liar and slaps him clean across the face the groom obviously not having enjoyed this returns the favor and punches her in the face the best man spots this and leaps across a sofa and tackles the groom to the floor they're now having a full-on fistfight while the bride sobs incoherently I try to get out of the way as I'm being trampled by mr. wkd and his nasty friend my supervisor storms in saying he found sugar in the bathroom and the police are on their way the best man is off like a robbers dog and the groom stands there stunt and then follows his new wife into the function room we then hear screaming and shouting from that room and the bride has picked up a chair and launched it at her husband and was now holding a second one trying to attack him with it at this point it's about 2:00 a.m. and I am royally done with the day my mom is waiting for me outside so I grabbed my bag and head off giving my supervisor strict instructions to tell me exactly how this ends when I'm back for my next shift I pass a riot van of police officers on the way out of the door direct them to the drama and go home next shift I'm informed that an ambulance arrived shortly after the police the groom was taken to the hospital after sustaining a head injury but he did a runner from the paramedics when he got to the hospital the bride's stayed at the hotel and to console herself spent the with the male wedding guests she danced with they left together in the morning and a week later announced on Facebook she was in a new relationship with him I had a moment where I thought this was happening when my wife and I got married me my groomsmen and the preacher was standing at the altar where we should be and the song my wife had chosen for when she and her bridesmaids walk up starts playing we had a wedding rehearsal the day before so we knew the timing of the song would be perfect for when she walked in it was supposed to be the bridesmaids then the maid of honor then the flower girls then my wife and her father so the song starts playing no one comes in no bridesmaids no maid of honor no flower girls no bride so we wait we're at least two minutes into the song and there is no sign of anyone I am freaking out on the inside sweating bullets at the altar but I had been instructed beforehand that mistakes happen at all weddings and no matter what happens keep a straight face because that will keep the guests calm so I'm smiling like a big dumb idiot by myself at the altar with a hundred and fifty guests now looking back and forth between me and the front door every five seconds the preacher looks at me and whispers I'll be right back and dashes out the side door to go and look for them all so now we have no preacher and no bride we wait some more the song ends complete silence my best man sees my smiles start to fade and whispers behind me if she's not here in 30 seconds I swear to god I'll marry you myself true friend it made me laugh and kept me from running out the door to go find her myself lo and behold thirty seconds later preacher who is a 5 foot 7 inches 300-pound white man in a bowtie suit runs back in with sweat pouring down his face winks at me and announces to the whole congregation it's ok folks they were just taking pictures many many things you can start breathing again the song starts over and after a moment the bridesmaids start rolling in just as they should have five minutes before apparently the photographer was taking pictures of them all and no one had told them that the ceremony had started who lucky for me my bride looked more beautiful than anything I had ever seen as soon as she walked in and by the time she got to the altar I forgot completely about the fact that she had just given me a heart attack I was the bride's best man best friend of the bride didn't like the groom so I got to wear the pink tux etc the reason I didn't like the groom was because he was Shady there just wasn't something right about him he was young chiseled you know the type a girl's wet dream he worked construction stayed out late and usually came home with a beer or two and him that sort of guy we get through the wedding and it's to the part where the preacher man states speak now or forever blah blah we know the story this is when it gets interesting at that moment three women stood from around the church and very loudly voiced their opinions apparently one of them was pregnant with his child and the other two had engagement rings from him stone cold busted the bride through the engagement ring at him had me carry her dress and we booked it called off the wedding revoked the papers and sued him for some breach of contract or something I'm not familiar with the legal side of it does it count if the wedding party was left at the altar I didn't know the full story of this one until afterwards I was merely attending due to family obligation being a teenager at the time I already knew something was up when my mom grumpily told me we had to go to a wedding and that it was in two weeks my mom is the consummate scheduler there's no way she wouldn't have told me about a wedding months in advance unless it was also a surprise to her it's a Wednesday evening after school mind you and the ambience is just weird no one is talking no one is happy the bridesmaids and groomsmen are all in nice-looking but clearly unmatched dresses and suits and looking around nervously I don't know anyone but my mom worked with this girl for a few years and said something about showing up to support the bride and no one else I didn't really get this at the time being 1213 the only thing that really seems off to me is how young everyone in the wedding party looks like Vincent adult man young I go in with mom we sit on the bride's side and wait and wait and wait this is before cellphones were popular so everyone is just kind of murmuring until finally someone runs in with a letter addressed to the both sets of parents of the bride and groom I can't see much but I heard the opening of the envelopes followed by one of the dads yelling out making the pastor father preacher or whatever run down c-team off-brand Christian Church we were in go bright red the dad proceeded to tell everyone the wedding was off and to go home found out from mom much later that the bride and groom were being forced to get married after the parents caught them sleeping together now it's already ridiculous to do this in any situation but there wasn't even a pregnancy involved both of these people were 19 and it was the 90s the bridesmaids were all pulled from Brides sisters female cousins and groomsmen were grooms brothers male cousins no friends nothing just forced matrimony straight up apparently the letter said the effects of dear mom and dad hell you from the children you'll never ever see again they ran off to a different state together to start over last I heard they're in their early 40s now and actually married with kids and still haven't spoken to their parents since that day my boyfriend was friends with a guy who was getting a quickie marriage and needed witnesses we agreed and went inside the little reception room where the preacher bride and the groom were lined up waiting on us the preacher started his thing and I noticed a woman come in and leaned against the back wall she looked annoyed standing with her arms crossed preacher is there anyone here today who objects to the union of groom and bride please speak now the couple looked back at us and we both smiled suddenly the bride's attention turned to the woman in the back of the room bride what is she doing here the woman quickly raises her hand looking at the old preacher woman I object I don't agree with this marriage the bride glares at her bride shut up witch wait your turn it's my scheduled day you're just mad you didn't think of it first the woman had to be dragged out of the room kicking and screaming and spitting at the bride after the reception my boyfriend's friend explained that he was originally in a relationship with the bride after 10 years together he started sleeping sister the woman they were close sisters until both ladies got pregnant by him simultaneously they fought each other like cats and dogs for the next several years until the two cousins became school-aged and best friends neither one of the sisters would give up the man and he wasn't sure which one he loved more so he kept seeing both women last I heard they were all still together but the two sisters had teamed up to take down his pregnant mistress my husband and I weren't actually at this wedding for mutual acquaintances but a lot of our other friends knew the couple better and had been invited coincidentally we were getting together about evening with some of the friends who were going to the wedding and that's who we heard the first-hand account from bride and groom stood up in front of the priest to say vows and groom hesitated after an awkward pause he turned away from the bride he'd been facing said in a low voice I just can't do this I'm sorry the best man took him by the arm and led him out the bride was too stunned to say anything but then her bridesmaids led her away there was some kind of beatings in the back of the church and in the bride's room and the priest came back and announced that the wedding was being canceled the bride's father tore a program in half and announced angrily that anyone who wanted to pro take of the reception was welcome to since it was paid for strangely although the couple never did get married they actually remained friends how the bride did it I'll never know a little more than a year later the former groom died of a genetic heart condition while traveling overseas a couple years after that the former bride went to a sperm bank and had a child and has raised her as a single parent [Music] you
