[Music] what's going on guys nick here we got a body language breakdown of the awesome misha collins i absolutely love misha collins to death uh guy played and rocked castiel on supernatural one of just like the most prolific roles of all time and it's kind of propelled him into the super stardom where he's just taking every single like comic con or sorry every single convention and every single like supernatural conference and and stuff like that by storm and just you can tell how much people love them just by the screams every single time he says a single word uh from his fans so really cool stuff i really like castiel and supernatural misha collins in real life kind of off screen is a little bit different uh he is i want to say a lot less intense he's a lot more kind of jokey a lot more laid back he unfortunately falls prey to a couple of what i consider low value body language behaviors it's not the end of the world it's just little things i think he could improve if you wanted to kind of like increase his perceived charisma or confidence on camera and it's totally okay something that i noted uh last time i did an interview for jared padalecki was he was not like the stereotypical badass alpha male mofo right and a lot of people think that you need to be in order to be like that super charismatic confident person the reality is a lot of the time people find meaning and find kind of relevance in people that are more on there on their level and they kind of empathize with them a little bit better and not everybody is that alpha male super stone cold chad bastard so uh you know if you kind of like bring yourself down a little bit show some human vulnerability show a couple of those body language slip ups that real people do it can also humanize you to a great degree and castiel and supernatural and uh misha collins is very i think is a very good demonstration of that so without further ado let's get into the analysis that doesn't sound exciting are you excited [Applause] so you know when people scream like that it it spreads kobe oh boy he's starting off with a covet joke what a zinger gotta tread carefully with that stuff uh nowadays but right off the bat he's not sitting in a very like high kind of confident or very like charismatic way right now he's kind of on the edge of his seat he's kind of leaning forward his knees are much farther than his feet are which kind of gives him the suppression of almost being like a little boy leaning forward at the end of his seat but i want to i want to mention that part of this is just due to the way that the seats are set up i know these types of seats i actually literally own one of those like couch things not with me right now but it's in one of my other places and they are incredibly uncomfortable they're also really low to the ground for people that are like above five five or five sex and i think misha collins is from what i remember so what this means is uh he's kind of forced to sit at a really kind of uncomfortable oblique angle and i picked this interview specifically because of that because i wanted to show you guys how he kind of copes with that and overcomes that basically aside from that though you see the interviewer he's kind of sitting at like an angle and one of his legs is crossed over and he's kind of like a little more relaxed that's more the ideal body language to to use when you're kind of confronted with this situation where these chairs are super uncomfortable and really crappy ideally you'd have like a really good seating situation from the get-go but misha collins doesn't this is more or less what he has to deal with uh you may have just killed someone with that it's a risk i'm willing to take okay we saw a pacifier there uh and it's funny that we saw it basically immediately after he made what would probably be considered a politically incorrect joke that pacifier was if you look down at his left's knee or left thigh you'll see him kind of stroke it up and down right after he makes that joke you might have just killed somebody so let's see it live just killed someone with that it's a risk i'm willing to take so it's really slight but these types of behaviors are very common anytime somebody kind of goes out on a limb making a joke something like that you'll usually see some type of pacifying behavior where you know either they get up off their seat or something do a posture readjustment maybe they stroke you know some part of their face or in misha collins case he plays with his thighs i'm sorry that was a dark way to start but the only now he also does something really interesting and kind of weird here this is definitely what i would consider a low value body language behavior he squeezes his knees together and the reason why this is low value is because it kind of makes your body really really small usually people that are very charismatic and confident in the situation they're going to spread open and kind of take up as much the situation as they can but amisha collins clays he look he's looking really closed off here he's hunched forward his hand is beneath both of his thighs squeezing them together this is kind of a pacifying behavior it stimulates both sides of your hand which is obviously incredibly densely innervated and it's interesting to see him do that right now how is everyone don't scream i just said don't scream i have a convention yes i don't know you from supernatural okay do you know i know i know you as the gishwhes guy oh really [Applause] [Music] the gishwhes guy i should get t-shirts made with that on it um he adopts a very strange body language posture that i've basically never seen before and i've seen a lot of body language postures which is interesting it's both of his knees are kind of like closer than his legs are and both of his legs are i believe the word is inverted but his feet are rather inverted towards each other this is definitely super low value and i think part of the reason why i did this is just because it's more comfortable where he's seated right now but he definitely does not look comfortable and i'm sure basically everybody can pick that up without me even needing to say that so we see him also when his uh kind of compatriots uh in the interview the the lovely interviewer there on the right asks him a question we also see him kind of move a little bit he moves his left hand from beneath his thighs and then kind of puts it on his right elbow so he's kind of closing himself off more and kind of staying in that position he's not opening himself up he's not kind of getting more and more confident as time goes on have you participated i've done it twice oh really yeah wow what was your experience it was it was amazing because something else that's really interesting something that i basically haven't touched on until now is there are also some very minut body language behaviors that people engage in with their mouth when they're stressed out again as i always say everybody has different pacifiers everybody has different behaviors that you know they use that other people don't use in order to determine whether or not they're confident or whether or not they're kind of nervous in a situation misha collins in this case is he tends to lick his lips and kind of play around with his mouth do stuff like this and he does that over and over and over again over the course of the interview now everybody has their tick for some people it's biting their nails for other people it's kind of like biting on their lips kind of licking them and stuff like that every single time you see a behavior like this it doesn't mean that they're super anxious or stressed but if you see several of them over a short period of time it does kind of point that picture or paint that picture rather what i learned from it was people are willing to do almost anything as long as you ask them politely you don't even have to ask politely you can just can you do this for me please um isn't that kind of an amazing it is it's incredible i think a lot of a lot of what i learned with gish is that people are another way that i could tell just how nervous or anxious he is in this interview i'd probably give him like a six out of ten although he does hide it very well especially his face and kind of like upper body is the the little kind of displays of stress he's doing in between answering a question and kind of doing some other action like check this out if we go frame by frame here you see he's answering and then all of a sudden he kind of moves to pull his phone out of his pocket which is totally totally fine it's a functional behavior it's kind of fulfilling a purpose so he puts it in his pocket he's kind of explaining himself and then immediately after he takes his hand and then he kind of like brushes his left thigh and then squeezes his hand together again we've seen this behavior many times in many other interviews the brushing of the thigh is incredibly impactful as a pacifier just because of how much surface area there is on the skin and those areas and people will do that kind of thigh brushing behavior really really often anytime that they're stressed out misha collins is definitely doing a lot of that here people are incredibly bored and they they want um they want something to do yeah no i i agree it's kind of amazing i mean i i'm now friends with um a man named dave lavery who is the director of solar system exploration for nasa and that's because of gish and name dropping i saw a slight little pacifier there he put a little bit of pressure on his right ankle kind of roll that up and down usually the legs are one of the first places that you'll see any signs of anxiety so in this case it sounded to me like he was referencing his kind of big shot friend over at nasa and that was kind of a social risk which is hence why the stress levels went up why you saw that little concomitant movement in his uh his right ankle literally i there was the name and i dropped it um he uh he was approached during or nasa was asked to do things forget interestingly enough we saw him move his mic hand into the other one and then we also saw him kind of take his hand and then put it right back between his thighs again so previously i believe it was his yeah previously it was his right hand that was beneath his heart or sorry his left hand that was beneath his thighs and then after that uh it was his his right hand so it's very interesting seeing how that switches up like he needs to have a hand between his thighs no matter what doesn't really matter you know whether it's left hand or it's right he just wants to have some kind of pressure wants to have that kind of feel good warmth and stimulation he uh he was approached during or nasa was asked to do things for gish and nasa as an organization was like no you know what okay we'll do it so nasa like speaking of asking and people do things people ask nicely and and nasa named a mountain on mars gishwhes which is amazing i want to take a second just to contrast the body language behaviors of the interviewer and the interviewee in this case misha collins the interviewer has his legs spread super wide they're basically shoulder width apart that takes up a lot more space than he explicitly requires he has his left hand resting on his left knee that's a very casual kind of behavior he's kind of very i want to say relaxed kind of while seating that way now they obviously both have smiles in their faces because as an actor the first place you learn and control is your face but from the neck down you get kind of a bigger story right and that's why i was mentioning the knees on the interviewer i was mentioning his hands if you just look at the right of the screen and compare that to what you're seeing at the left of the screen you basically have on the right very casual laid back relaxed body language behavior on the left you have like a very anxious nervous stressed out behavior now unfortunately misha collins in this interview he does not really get any better in terms of his kind of body language signals he doesn't really look any more charismatic and confident and i know that he's actually a relatively outspoken and i don't want to say extroverted but because he's very kind of cheeky and nervous but also kind of cool and calm and collected at the same time he's this very interesting blend but i know in most other interviews he doesn't really show that as much in this one i picked it specifically because i wanted you guys to see that context is also very important anytime you're analyzing body language one instance of a person seeming nervous or anxious usually isn't enough for you to label hey that person has bad body language because misha collins he doesn't have bad body language he just has uh his body language just kind of oscillates between kind of positive and negative behaviors constantly but context is very important right if you put him in a i don't know one of those like grandiose kind of king throne like chairs where he can lean back kind of like the thing that i'm sitting on definitely a throne uh where he can lean back and stretch himself out his body language be very different than if he was in that kind of tiny little chair that looked like it was made for four-year-olds right and a lot of that is just the environment the end of the day body language is mostly a demonstration of how comfortable you are everything else just revolves around comfort by proxy so your anxiety levels revolve around your comfort how nervous you are revolves around your comfort all of those things revolve around your comfort if you start off with like an uncomfortable situation to start with it's very difficult to show high value body language and kind of be that you know alpha male in the room and i think misha collins gave it his best shot thanks so much guys i really appreciate watching this body language breakdown amisha collins i'm a little sick today that's why if you guys can tell my voice is usually a little bit louder maybe a little bit more golden boy please like and subscribe i'm more than happy to keep doing these supernatural interviews for you i receive a lot of good feedback and a lot of
