hey in this video we're doing a body language analysis of keanu reeves now i love keanu to death but he gets very anxious on stage we're going to walk through a few of his behaviors we're going to walk through his responses to a couple questions and we're going to see a few key tells that you yourself can keep in mind next time you run either a public speaking scenario an interview or even a date so let's dive right into it [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] david come on good to see you again how have you been i've been good all right so right off the bat we see a few pacifiers here with uh keanu reeves i was just about to call him john wick i guess the two are interchangeable at this point he changes or rather he fiddles around with his tie he decides to sit uh in this way but when he first sat down both of his legs were spread and you'll see him fiddle with his hands a little bit but i want you guys to pay close attention to what you see next people enjoy the keanu reeves that's very nice that is nice you the latest installment of john wick um shows you with so he's adjusting his tie again he's kind of adjusting his blazer very stereotypical male uh pacifying behaviors people's hands just subconsciously do that when they're nervous they're constantly kind of tweaking different aspects their appearance because i guess one they like the stimulation but two they think that they could kind of make themselves look better it's quite prominent anytime you have like a nervous man at an interview public speaking deal or potentially debate really extraordinary agility all right now this was very interesting to me because the body language behavior that john sorry keanu reeves there we go again engages in right here is actually something that a lot of body language professionals recommend which leads me to think that maybe he's had some training or at least he's watched a few videos to try and remedy his poor body language check this out really extraordinary so what keanu reeves is doing here is called a steeple so basically you take your five fingers and you connect them right at the tips you don't do one of these little high fives to yourself you don't cross your fingers over no the steeple is your full five fingers connecting like this and it's usually implied that the person that's doing the steeple is usually in control of the interaction this is why i see it so often from bosses from boardrooms big corporate meetings stuff like that this signals dominance and signals hey i'm the major player here kanu reeves is doing this but you'll see that almost instantly after he starts his hands immediately go to a more subconscious high pacifying behavior check this out agility and and and physical capability you you what i want you guys to notice is candy reef's hands are shaking very violently he is super nervous for this and it's expressing quite heavily with you know the tips of his fingers and i think this is one of the reasons why he likes to have his hands clenched and he likes to be constantly moving his hands around because the more you move your hands the less people can tell that they're trembling and stephen colbert picks up on this too you you so right back there his hands were trembling right here stephen colbert is noticing that his hands are trembling and are like oh okay i have to draw a little bit of attention away from this i'm gonna try and calm them down a little bit you say you don't do your stunts but you don't do your action do action yeah what does that mean to do your action as opposed to your stunt um okay so i'll a couple of different pacifiers here when stephen colbert hands off the torch to candy reeves you see keanu touch his beard kind of like quickly move uh more to the right here yeah what does that mean he is like a pivot your action as opposed to your stunt um okay so i'll do some fight scenes and then john wick will get hit by a car and that's jackson spidel who is amazing yes he's an amazing stunt man yes he gets hit by the car then i'll get up from the car and then i'll do a whole bunch more of like gunfu and whatever and jiu-jitsu judo and then maybe you know then if i get thrown off of something then jackson does his thing right but in the film well you could if you wanted to but you just want don't want to take a job now notice over the course of that monologue just how animated kana reeves is just how much he's moving around very actively a whole bunch more of like gunfu and whatever and jiu-jitsu judo and then maybe you know then if i get he has a poster readjustment and he's constantly kind of wiggling back and forward in his chair typically when very high value people will deliver a story or a monologue or something like that they'll move around a bit but they're not going to move around like this they're not going to be this animated while they're doing it because this type of fidgety behavior is usually perceived as low value it's usually perceived as a little bit more subconscious rather than purposeful thrown off of something then jackson does i suspect the reason why he's doing this has to do with the fact that his hands were trembling so much earlier he has so much energy right now he's so anxious there's so much uh need for kind of self-stimulation pacification that he's working off a little bit while moving it also doubles as a way for him to hide just how severely his hands are shaking right but in the film you could if you wanted to but you just want no one can take a job away from i know i'm just well yeah and you'll see how quickly he's fidgeting and how many times he moves to different postures i mean right back there he had a index finger on his nose i believe jackson does his thing right but in the film you could right there that's one posture if you wanted to but you just want don't want to take a job away from me and then he moves to a different posture with his hand on his chin all very animated you get hit by a car but you know hospital he's like oh you get hit by a car once one where you gotta go last film that's it yes but uh no jackson's professional and he knows how to do that and but i mean for you know john wick action is a particular kind of action i mean the director wants to make it immersive and wants to make it like a performance so it's really long takes and so we you know you you train for a while and what i love is you see the fight happening yeah exactly like it's it's like watching dance you'll also notice that again candy's attempting to hide just how bad his fingers are shaking by constantly moving his hands around and resting them on various things resting them on like his face resting them on his leg like it's it's like watching dance yeah it's very much like that the director chad stahelski has a vision then there's some choreography most of the time and then um and then we go we rehearse and then we you know perform something else that i want to touch on is while he's explaining all this while he's being really animated he's not actually meeting stephen colbert in the eye but usually immediately after he's done telling a story he will look stephen colbert back in the eye again we can't really say much about this aside from the fact that he's anxious there's a lot running through his head right now he doesn't really want to waste the uh neuronal you know the neural cpu by you know looking at stephen colbert's facial expression he'd rather have all that processing power available to like tell his story to kind of you know move his hands around in a way that seems like they're not trembling it's very stereotypical behavior anytime somebody's under a lot of stress they're usually not meeting the person they're speaking to his eyes they usually jump back immediately after they're done because they want to see their reaction but while they're talking they want to use their full brain resources to coming up with a story it's kind of moving a single fight let's say like one uh five-minute fight you might do how long are you training for that fight well it depends so they don't uh okay so there's a couple of fights where we trained a couple of days but what really happens is for me they get uh i get basically like a john wick tooled box so i'll know however many judo throws they'll choreograph most of the jiu jitsu um with the horse there's a horse fight now so i had to do some but i had to get off i had to get off the sack no no i'm on the horse and then there's okay the horse is fighting now what betrays his kind of animatedness here instead of this just being pure personality the reason why you can realize or see that this is actually a nerves at play is how many times he keeps on going back to his tie to readjust i think this is like the fifth or sixth time that he's doing this but watch i had to get off the side no no see how he's continuously you know reacting to the various movements of his tie this is a very low value or kind of low confidence behavior because it shows that uh one you're looking for a male pacifying behavior which in this case is just rubbing your fingers against a piece of fabric but two you're also just keenly aware of like the way that your body looks at every point in time and you're attempting to micromanage it to the point where like you don't want a single hair out of place so to speak i'm on the horse and then there's okay the horse the horse is fighting and he does it again right there it's it's john wick it's like it's just instead of just riding a horse you have to have a gun fight and do all of that sort of stuff well so what is it like to fight on a horse it's fun does that not make you nervous we also see a big pasta readjustment here uh you know he says basically a joke this is quite an it's not like a super bravado alpha male posture but it's decently high value if your legs spread uh his right arm here is kind of opening up giving himself a little bit more volume and you know he's leaning on something this here isn't super high value basically everything else is like hey i'm back to being confident again it's fun but the second that he tells a joke he's immediately looking for the audience reaction and while doing so his stress levels spike up to the point where he decides he needs to posture or readjust again does that not make you nervous at all no it's a movie but the horse but the horse is real you could get you could get thrown and trampled yeah you can die but the thing is but the thing is i mean i wasn't going to go that far but yeah that's true that's what can happen that was happening but they had a safety system so they created this rig that with the horse behind the truck the thing with wires they strap the horse behind a truck what are you talking about well kind it gets it's very complicated but anyway so now keanu's posture readjusting again he's playing with his tie and this pattern continues over the course the next few minutes so i'm not going to beat it to death all right i'll stop it there i'm not saying kana reeves is a low value person by any means in fact a lot of these behaviors a lot of his animatedness a lot of like the jumping back and forth playing with his tie you know part of that is his personality he's obviously using it to mask a lot of the other problems that he has his anxiety on set and so on and so forth but a lot of people find that really charming i mean i find that charming a lot of people out there with confidence issues anxiety issues you know panic issues those types of things they kind of see a little bit of themselves in cantu reeves that's one of the reasons why uh he is in many ways like hollywood's sweetheart although he's more of like a hollywood's nervous sweetheart that's perfectly fine you can engage in some of these behaviors as well without them necessarily being super low value but the low value portions come in where all of a sudden instead of like being all animated and moving around you know you're touching your tie or you're like posture readjusting every three or four seconds right these things jump out at you subconsciously and make you think oh like maybe there's something wrong with him maybe he's a little more nervous maybe he's anxious maybe there's something like going on that we don't know about this is one of the reasons why he gets that reputation now a couple key takeaways for you guys is anytime you're in a situation like this instead of jumping back and forth and being all super you know all over the place it's much better to move slowly if you'd like to be perceived as more dominant or high value if you want to be perceived as low value for whatever reason i mean move quickly be very fidgety if you've seen my mark zuckerberg video you know act a little bit more like that but most of the people watching this don't want to seem lovely they want to seem high value so instead of being super you know animated being super energetic seem a little calmer make your movements a little slower a little more purposeful typically high value people are conscious of everything that their body does that's one of the reasons why they seem so high value they're basically explicitly saying hey i'm so confident that i'm going to make this body language behavior you guys are going to eat it up and that's one of the reasons why we do the second major point is trembling now we saw keanu reeves tremble a lot in this video uh i've trembled before you guys have trouble before everybody trembles in certain situations especially when nerves are super high when there's a lot of stuff going on and if you're like an introverted person to start with it's that much more difficult to control to help alleviate this issue rather than have your hands completely still like we normally recommend right rather than like putting them on a seat chair or something like that and just waiting it's better to use it consciously while speaking so that you minimize the degree people can see these tiny little trembles with your fingers if you have a big trembling issue instead of just holding your hands and just keeping them still so that you know everybody with the camera and everybody and their grandma can can see you tremble it's better to slowly move your hands consistently have some type of motion to them so that people can't spot that same deal if you tremble areas of your face some people have like eye issues where their eyes are constantly kind of going up or down they kind of tremble their eyelid some other people have issues with their lips so their lips are like kind of going up and down very quickly whatever the situation is attempt to move those areas a little bit more often and what you'll find is usually after 20 or 30 seconds of doing this type of conscious directed behavior your trembles will disappear naturally because your trebles are very micro movements that get overpowered by the macro movement of using your hand and it kind of quiets you down a little bit helps you calm down so i hope that video was helpful guys as always if you guys found it informative please like subscribe if you want me to do somebody specific please leave a comment down below letting me know who it is really helps me out i will see you guys in the next video and i hope you enjoyed candy reeves
